  1. Time for another update... especially since I will have only intermittent internet access over the next couple weeks... Goal 1: Still running 3 days a week. I missed a day or two on my walking because of sickness last week, and a crap tonne of snow this week (got some exercise shoveling snow that day!) I'm ready to start week 6 on my C25K, and I'm looking forward to my 5K on New Year's Eve. Feeling good about this goal. Goal 2: I'm now down to 162.6 - that means thanks to that unexpected 'whoosh', I've lost 10 lbs over the course of the challenge - I'm flabbergasted, but in a good way! Goal 3: I suck... let's leave it at that - well - something to work towards in the next challenge, right? Life goal: All shopping was completed on schedule, and the wrapping was done in the nick of time. No last minute wrapping gifts 6 hours before I get on the road, hahah! So I'm feeling like I achieved this goal as well.
  2. That's awesome!! Congrats!!
  3. I found the form videos on this site very helpful: http://www.goodformrunning.com/ I was toe striking and causing a lot of pain in my knees. The tips on this site helped me understand what a mid-foot strike was.
  4. I wasn't overweight until I lost my father - unexpectedly - about 6 years ago. I ate my sadness and gained 40 lbs in a year. Then I continued to eat even as I was healing.
  5. I have a pair. I'm pretty sure I look ridiculous just walking around, but when I'm out running & walking in them, I look appropriately dressed, and I don't even think about it. The ones I purchased have a wind-breaking material on the fronts of the legs, and a soft fleecy texture on the inside, for warmth. I ran in -16C last week in them, and I was toasty warm.
  6. Um... little behind with my updates... goal 1: firmly in the middle of C25K week 5 (for the second week). Pwned that first 20 minute run. I've still been running 3 and walking 2 days per week. I feel like I might be able to move on to week 6 before Christmas. goal 2: the 'whoosing' has slowed back to normal, but I'm now down to 166.2, and very happy about it. goal 3: I've started adding some elevated pushups and some planks. I want to add some other stuff too though - still don't feel like I'm doing this part of the challenge the way I intended life goal: I'd say about 95% of my shopping is done. I have a couple more stocking stuffers for hubby, and some more teas for my brother, and I think I'll be done.
  7. bumping topic, because I'm interested in this too. Right now, lunges put too much strain on my knees.
  8. If it was anyone else doing it, I would be wary. Since it's Peter Jackson - I'm quietly optimistic. Whatever the reasons, it's being made by someone who genuinely loves the Tolkien universe. It can't be all bad.
  9. I love costuming. I've been to a bunch of cons, and always loved to put on a costume. I made a full klingon (including the forehead), I've cosplayed as Calisto (from Xena), and even a Tigger mascot costume. Plus several other simpler costumes One of the biggest disappointments about gaining weight was that a lot of my costumes don't fit. Working on fixing that!!
  10. Thanks! The shopping is in interest of self-preservation, and it's turning out to be more fun this way, I've discovered. as for the strength training, I simply need to make time to do it. I have the time, I just haven't MADE the time, KWIM?
  11. Update: 1 - running I ran 3 days and walked 2 last week. I've been working on C25K week 4 (still), and I think I'm just about ready to move on to week 5 2 - weight CW 168.6 I think I had a bit of a 'whoosh' the last week or so. Not complaining - pleasantly surprised, especially since I've been doing the same thing as in previous weeks. 3 - strength training i suck. need to put more priority on this, this week. 4 - life goal Did some more xmas shopping last week, and still collecting 'wish lists' from family members. Need to harass my sister! Ha! Hmmm guess that's all to report this week!
  12. Nova Scotia, to be with extended family. We road trip 1200km to get there. I'm blessed with kids who are good travellers.
  13. I'm a creature of habit. I just needed to change the habits to better ones.
  14. So, I guess I need to post an update. Re Goal 1: Last week I ran 3 days, and walked 2 days. I'm repeating week 4 of C25K this week. Re Goal 2: I lost 1 lb this week. YAY!! This whole 'eating smarter' thing is awesome. SW 172.6 CW 170 Re Goal 3: I was a butthead with this. So, no progress on this yet. Re: Life Goal I've been gathering 'wishlists' from family members, and I've already made 2 evening shopping excursions. The second one was made more pleasant by meeting a friend for coffee afterwards.

  16. I'm on a weight loss journey, so one goal is to lose at least 4 more lbs during the 6 weeks. I'm doing C25K right now, so one of my goals is to complete my first 5K on New years Eve. (although, I already know I'll be walking part of it - the goal is to finish, injury free, and run at least part of it). Also want to start some body weight strength training.
  17. This is my first time participating in a NF challenge. It's about time, eh?? Goal 1 Complete my first 5k on New Years Eve, without injury, and running at least part of it. I plan to achieve this by continuing on my C25K program. I'm just started week 4, and want to be at week 5 (ready to move on to week 6) by the end of this challenge (I'm repeating weeks as my body requires - my 40 year old knees are not capable of moving on too quickly). If achieved, I hope to earn +1 STR, +2 DEX, +2 STA Goal 2 Lose 4 more lbs. I plan to achieve this by continuing on my healthy eating plan, tracking my calories and paying attention to my macros. Also by not being a complete glutton over the Christmas period. SW: 172.6 lbs If achieved, I hope to earn +2 STA, +1 CON, +1 CHA Goal 3 Start body weight strength training at least once a week, with a goal to be doing it minimum 2x per week by the end of the challenge. I plan to start with the basic NF body weight exercises. If achieved, I hope to earn +2 STR Life goal: Be better prepared for travelling over the Christmas holidays, so that it is less stressful. Specifically - I want to have all gifts wrapped no later than 3 days before we hit the road this year. All shopping completely no later than 1 week before we travel. If achieved, I hope to earn +2 WIS Well, hope I did this right, LOL!
  18. Hi! I'm JJ - a mom of two, a fellow nerd, and I'm in the process of getting my health in order. I've been lurking here for a while, but I feel it's time to pipe up and I'm getting ready to join in on the new 6 week challenge.
  19. I second that - prep the night before can be so much help! I have to get my kids fed, dressed and drive them to school in the morning. But I'm so not a morning person... so anything that I can do the night before, I'll do it. That includes making the lunches, laying out the kid's clothes, getting the school bags packed and ready by the front door. Any little thing you can do the night before will free up time in the morning, and make your morning a little less daunting. Good luck!!
