  1. One lift I just might stand a chance at competing with you in. Of course, these aren't your maxes, so you've probably got me beat there in that respect. Still, I'll be keeping an eye on these numbers to see anything I can strive for. My DL max right now is only 305 with a double overhand, raw. Not even chalk. And squats I've only hit 225x2. So I can maybe hit 235x1. You're really hitting it though man, so keep it up. Ever do bent over barbell rows in place of one arm rows?Edited: Nevermind, just read the "starting so light" part. So scratch that competing bit. Haha!
  2. That's pretty cool. Do you understand the hype I speak of though? It has gotten pretty large, no doubt thanks in part to the popularity of the UFC and the Gracie family. I suppose if we include strikes it would become Pankration, eh? I think that's how it's spelled.
  3. Thanks for the add stranger! Check out Fitocracy.com sometime too. You might like it.

  4. I didn't necessarily mean in the sense that it's the most dominant; I meant instead that it seems to be the most widely praised and talked about style. I didn't quite clarify what I meant, and for that I apologize. But I very much agree with you.@chairohkey: It might be biased, but it's a welcomed opinion. I tried my hand at boxing on the heavy bags, and while I understand the mechanics and everything, I've never quite had the knack for it. I've always been more a grappler and one to use palms for striking. I seem to throw them more powerfully and am able to generate a lot of force with my body behind them. I really do fight like a bear in that sense. I'll be getting guys in here at the gym to wrestle with besides my friends I do it for fun with, so it should be a good deal. But any websites with tips, techniques, etc. you can point me to I'm all ears. I've picked up a copy of Wrestling for Fighting by Randy Couture. I'm digging it so far for sure.
  5. I do a little boxing on the heavy bags at my gym, but I find it more natural and powerful on my end of things doing knife edge strikes and palm strikes. I'm a fan of listening to my body and doing what works. Not to take away from BJJ, but I've really no interest in it at all with all the hype that's over it. It's become such a name thrown around that everyone points to that I can't really stand hearing too much about it. It annoys me as much as someone telling me wrestling couldn't be used as a martial art. I think they're forgetting how much those slams might hurt being transferred to the ground, concrete, or in assisting with subduing someone. When my buddies grapple, we implore chokes and joint locks as well; so it's not exclusively wrestling. We just deem it that. Still, it's at least good to see at least a few people enjoy it. I feel so antiquated sometimes loving the things I do and standing by the styles I enjoy; especially in today's MMA dominant world where BJJ seems to be at the top of the hill.
  6. Just curious if there are any here that are fans of and advocate Greco-Roman/Freestyle styles of wrestling, but a little outside their respective sports but in self-defense situations. I'm a fan of powering through things, hence my love of the DT position in football. And I enjoy wrestling with my friends and even if I lose the match (we only wrestle for fun and conditioning) I love the satisfaction of getting a few good slams and suplexes in. I'm hoping to find other enthusiasts.
