  1. I work at Lowe's. Because of this I've been getting more and more interested in DIY stuff. For the past few months I've been ammassing the materials to build these guys. I'm still stuck with a 5' bar and it makes it a little tight. But I'm still completely ecstatic that I can bench press without having to Roll out of it every time and I didn't spend more than $80 on the whole project. Plus there is the pride every time I use it that I built this. Links to the walkthroughs. http://homemadestrength.blogspot.com/2011/05/strongest-bench-youll-never-buy.html http://homemadestrength.blogspot.com/2011/04/more-than-just-squat-stands.html
  2. Couldn't agree more. Vaas is the most entertaining and memorable video game character I've seen in a long time. Right now I'd have to give my edge to Dishonoured but FarCry 3 is a close second. And Towns is pretty fun in it's own way.
  3. This is my first challenge so I'm going to go a little easy on myself and work my way up. Goals Finish Insanity then complete full body weight lifting workouts 3x/week. STR - 2 STA - 1 DEX - 1 Complete 6 missions in Zombies, Run. (One a week.) DEX - 1 STA - 2 Finish building my bench and squat rack. STR - 2 Get down to 22% Body Fat. CHA - 2 CON - 2 Finish Level 1 of Rosetta Stone: Irish. WIS - 2
  4. I have been floating around 230 to 240 lbs since I was 18 at least. But for the first time of my adult life I stepped on a scale and the first number wasn't a 2. I am below 200 lbs for the first time in my adult life. I immediately took a picture to commemorate the moment although I'm not sure how to post it on here. The image button isn't working.
  5. Where I live 70 lb bags of Tube Sand go for less than 5 bucks. They're very slightly slick so you get work on your grip and the weight shifts like someone else said. They're fairly durable too, as long as you don't stab them with a forklift. And in case it's not called Tube Sand everywhere else. http://www.lowes.com/pd_58362-215-NA_0__?productId=3067709&Ntt=tube+sand&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dtube%2Bsand&facetInfo=
  6. I've always wanted to do this. But this video seals it. I'm going to have to compete next time. Also, what was the little jog back you did at the end? Forget something?
  7. Here is my first food log September 7th 2012 Woke up at 4:50 Breakfast 5:05 1.5 cups rice chex .75 cups whole milk .5 tbsp sugar Snack 7:30 1 can asparagus 5 oz canned chicken Lunch 10:35 1 pack of ramen Snack 2:30 8-10 pringles Dinner 5:30 2 pieces of fried chicken w/ lemon sauce Exercise 9:00 1 hour Insanity I'll probably eat something small after my exercise.
  8. I bought the Insanity program some forgotten amount of time ago and I've been putting off doing it because I couldn't afford the diet plan that went with it. I decided to just do them anyway and try to eat healthier to compensate for not following the plan. I'm on week 4 right now and for the first 2-3 weeks I was seeming to do better. More stamina, better fit test etc. But lately I'm barely able to get through the relatively easy workouts like cardio recovery. I'm beginning to think my less than ideal diet is catching up with me and I'm going to track my food for a week and post it in this thread and maybe see if that would be the cause. In the meantime, is there anything else that could be causing this? I also work in a Lowe's in the Lumber/Building materials department, so loading concrete and lumber into people's cars is a daily thing and I'm a little concerned that between that, Insanity and lifting weights occasionally that I'm not getting enough rest. But I'm still fairly new to all of this.
  9. I used to think that. I'm still not 100% paleo but at the very least I can say that it has gotten me out of my comfort zone and made me try new things. It's not for everyone and as far as I know (someone let me know if I'm wrong) but most of the evidence supporting that diet is anecdotal. People are clearly getting results from it, but there are also plenty of people who have never heard of paleo that are also getting results.
  10. You don't cut out carbs at all. You just eat different kinds. Vegetables and fruits still contain carbs, just not starchy ones found in grains/potatoes and the like.
  11. I was hoping so much that it was going to end with him blending into a group of people in white robes. It was a still pretty awesome.
  12. I've been where you are several times. When I first started my workout program I did a full body weight lifting workout and then did 45 minutes of Insanity and I couldn't move my legs without the DOMS for days. I went ahead and pushed through the Insanity anyway and I felt good knowing that I didn't let my willpower falter even though I really wanted it to. Then a couple weeks later I went for a three mile run on my off day from Insanity and woke up the next morning with DOMS in my shins and ankles and decided to skip my daily workout. I was actually really ashamed of myself. Like Ulsted said, you never regret a workout except the ones you skip. DOMS will eventually go away, that pride you get from overcoming weakness does not.
  13. . . . Smoking. Two things happened today that made me realize I'd kicked it for good. First, I was helping a contractor load some concrete today and he lit up a Camel Turkish Gold, my preferred brand of cigarette, and for the first time EVER I didn't like the smell of it. and second the person I quit smoking with asked me to buy them a pack of cigarettes, and usually I used that as an excuse to buy one too, and I told them "No, you don't need cigarettes to feel better." I used to love smoking and I would rationalize it away and tell myself "I'll quit smoking later, I just don't want to right now" and it feels good to finally be done with that poison. Also, being able to breathe is kinda cool too.
  14. When you say "high blood sugars" do you mean levels that only diabetics typically reach or is it something that would happen to a non diabetic if they, say, ate a candy bar before they lift?
  15. That's where I got the idea. To get the stuff to make the bench and rack, plus the sawhorses for the safety stands it will cost me roughly 150 bucks. Thanks for the ideas everyone. I know I need to get some more weight. I vastly overestimated how heavy 100 lbs was. A 7ft Olympic bar and 200 lbs of weights online will only run about $230. So I at least know how many pennies I need to save up.
