  1. I got my 20 min yoga and my 5 fruits and veggies in for today. I also did a tiny bit of arm strength training. On track for day 1.
  2. HI Laura and welcome to the Druids. I am new around here but wanted to share my coffee experience. I gave up coffe about 2 months ago. I cut back slowly and started adding chai tea lattes to my morning. But that was just a stepping stone. After a while of that, I switched to just tea which I also love. I wanted to cut back because I would get a headache on days I didn't have it. I didn't like feeling dependent on it. My next thing is going to be cutting back/out most sugar. Same thing, I feel like I am dependent on it. I am increasing my daily fruit intake to help with that. I figure that will take a few weeks. By the next challenge I may be ready to cut most sugar out. Good luck with your other goals. Anxiety is a tough one.
  3. Hi - I had to write because I like sewing too and don't make time for it enough. Living mindfully is a great goal. I hope you keep us posted on how that goes for you. Good luck on keeping up with your workouts! This should be a great place for that!
  4. Great goals. Handstands look so cool. I like water but don't measure how much I drink. Will you count number of 8 oz glasses or something like that? I read in your profile about primal/paleo. I would be interested in hearing more about your experiences with that. I hope you have a cooler summer!
  5. Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions re: foods to eat. I've printed a simple sheet to put on my fridge that I made from a few sources that show servings sizes (thanks for the web sites). I've also been to the farmers market this weekend. I was there near the end and was given a head of Romaine when I bought some other greens. I'm going to make a salad for lunch. I think I will also make a check sheet to mark off each serving so I don't forget. I decided to do my yoga when I wake up, so today is already done. I discovered 2 things. I am muuuuch less flexible than when I was taking yoga classes regularly. I am not naturally flexible, so I have a lot of room for improvement. But I think that sticking with it will make a big difference. The second thing is that when I was taking classes, I could look left or right and see other people doing the movements when I lost track of which hand or foot was supposed to move. Watching a video is a lot harder because everyone is facing me and their right hand is where my left hand is. I'm sure I'll get better at that, but it is a little weird.
  6. This is my second try at finishing a challenge. Maybe we can encourage each other. I like the "getting outside" goal!
  7. Great job picking goals! Keep it up.
  8. Hi everyone! I started a challenge but didn't finish it. This time I plan to finish all 6 weeks. I am also new to the druid class. I was doing yoga regularly a few years ago and felt much more flexible which is a real challenge for me. I want to get back into it. I've finished and posted my goals. Looking forward to getting to know everyone a bit more. Would be interested in how you incorporate yoga into your life.
  9. This is for the summer challenge starting June 3, 2013 Goals: 1. 5 servings (fruits + veggies) each day. I'll need to look up a definition of what constitutes a serving of each fruit or veggie I eat. I think this will be easy to find and standardize. 2. 30 second hang. There is a pull-up bar at the park near my house and I can hang for about 6 seconds now. By the end of the 6 weeks, I plan to be able to hang with my arms bent for 30 seconds. I'll do some arm and core strength training to be able to accomplish this. 3. 20 minutes of yoga a day. This is how I will increase my strength and flexibility. I don't do anything everyday right now except eat, sleep, brush my teeth (etc) so this will require some mental stamina. I plan on following Tara Stiles yoga videos to make up my time. I'll go at a pace consistent with what my body can do each day. 4. Level up my life goal: New job by the end of the 6 weeks. I'll accomplish this by updating my resume, looking online at job postings, maybe looking for a recruiter to help with this. These are my starting attributes: Strength: 3 Dexterity: 3 Stamina: 2 Constitution: 3 Wisdom: 3 Charisma: 1
  10. Thanks IvyClimber! That's actually a great idea! I'll check around.
  11. Just realized that I haven't posted in a while. I have, however, kept up my workouts. Today is the second day of the second week. I rode my bike yesterday as part of my cardio. I have taken walks the other days that I did cardio (or some kitchen dancing) I have 2 lb free weights which isn't much weight. But I figure that is OK while I learn the routines. In a few days, I'll have to increase the weight. Anyone else keep buying weights as they get better? I don't have a gym membership and I don't want a bunch of weights lying around. Hmmmm.
  12. I just finished today's workout. Here's what I did: Squats 2x15 Knee pushups 2x8 step ups 2x10 (on the yellow step stool) Lat pulls 2x15 (red band on the door) hip raises 2x10 plank 2x20 seconds cardio (dancing around like a crazy person to Gaelic Storm) I even did warm ups and cool down stretches (a minor miracle there!) The work out was pretty easy. I wanted to start at the bottom so that I wouldn't have any reason not to do the work out. as it is, I waited until evening to do the exercises. But I did them! Two day streak! (I'm not overly consistent so this is great) I also posted on a couple people's walls so I am counting social as good today. I even had two paleo meals! Eggs with scallions for breakfast and chicken with spinach and red bell peppers for dinner. Hope you had a good day!
  13. Hello Jakob! Thanks for replying to my first challenge post today. I am even newer here than you are! I was also looking for kind people who are encouraging. I think we've come to the right place. And the nerd-factor is a bonus!
  14. Hi! I am new today and joined the accountability group. Love LOTR, Hobbit, Big Bang, Harry Potter, and Star Trek. My kids do D&D and one does Cosplay- we make her costumes together. It's all fun. I've found this site to be quite full of information. Can someone tell me where to add an avatar and how to change my signature? My main goal this time around is really just to stick with it! I hope that having other accountability partners helps!
  15. Hi! I just joined today and added my name to the accountabilibuddies worksheet. For the shire! I got the rebel fitness guide and am starting with the rookie workout. I have tried the body weight one you are doing now and liked that also! Loved the idea of doing the workout in your pyjamas! I haven't done my workout yet for today and I planned to do it when I got up so we'll see what happens tonight. But I'll keep in mind the idea of finishing before going to sleep!
