  1. I would love to join this group, as my first challenge I can use all the help I can get and this sounds like a great group! Elenea, I am also doing the C25k as one of my goals! I am also not a great runner but I do love the feeling it gives me after I have completed a session. Maybe we can help each other stay on track with this one. Which app are you using for your training?
  2. Thanks everyone for the comments, I am currently updated my goals and everything above. Chojinfire, I find that if I allow myself some wiggle room on the candy thing it turns into a much larger issue than if I just pretend to be a robot in this and just say, "I do not eat candy." Muryanp, I have actually already started the couch to 5k plan, I have already completed the first 3 weeks, so I don't think it is too much of a stretch to be able to finish the program in this period of time. But I will take that into consideration. Thanks for the input! JB, I am definitely planning on checking out the roleplay side of the challenge.
  3. Hey all, First challenge for me as well! I am very excited to really get involved with the NF community. I am doing this to have more accountability in my life and to help me train for the many races that I have coming up this year. I think the biggest thing I want to do with this challenge is create some positive and consistent routines to get healthy and fit. Starting Place 5'7" 240.5lbs I can run about 4 minutes without stopping. (Not very well and not comfortably but it is possible.) Goals 1. Cut candy out completely I had completely cut all candy out of my diet for a month until easter and then I started bingeing on candy again. So I will be creating the automation again that I do NOT eat candy period. I found this article to be incredibly helpful in the past and so I will stop the bingeing on candy by creating an automation that say thata I do not eat candy. 2. Run 5k without stopping **after reading the first mini challenge I am considering rephrasing this goal. Perhaps running an entire 5k is not entirely acheivable. It would be the ultimate goal but in 6 weeks, maybe its a stretch. So I think instead I will just focus on running 3 days a week.** I have already started a couch to 5k type program (completed week 3) which I will continue for the entire 6 weeks by running at least 3 times a week. I think this should make it possible to run a 5k. 3. Do weight training 3 times a week. I am not sure yet what I want to do for this, I do have a total gym at home which I might use because squats and lunges are very difficult on my knees. 4. Go to bed at 10pm or earlier every weeknight. I am a terrible night owl and unfortunately I tend to get into the habit of staying up later and later. I need to cut this out, so another automation I think. So it is 11:30pm right now and I think I will go to bed since that is one of my goals. But since I just saw this challenge tonight, I think I will give myself a pass. I will be back on tomorrow to edit this though!
  4. I ran the course in 1 hour and 6 minutes and completed all of the obstacles including the 10-12 foot vertical wall. It was difficult but it was fun! Now to get in shape for the spartan sprint in May. 9 months to go!
  5. I think we need to start an overwhelmed newbie group, I would definitely join. I really relate to theI know what to do I just need to do it. I am the same way. My mom is also turning 60 and is in incredible shape. Right now I just try to keep up with her.right now! Let's do this and make ourselves and thm proud!
  6. Technically, I am not a beginner. This will be my second Warrior Dash and my third overall obstacle race. And the Warrior Dash is actually a great place to start. It is much more of a fun environment and all fitness levels are welcome. It is more about the mental toughness to complete it. As far as diet goes, I have already begun tracking my calories and cutting out soda and salt. I am looking into the Paleo diet but I am not sure I will be able to convince my husband and he does all the cooking in our house.
  7. Hello all, My name is growingwings. I just found this website a week ago. I have spent that time reading past articles and making small changes suggested in a few of the articles. I started a very simple fitness program this week. I did 2 sets of 20 body weight squats, calf raises, straight legged sit-ups to v-ups, chess press with 25 lb medicine ball and flies/tricep curls. More impressively in my eyes was the ninja productivity skills I employed: I slashed my email inbox from 2,000+ to less than 20, unsubscribed from all lists (except of course NF), and created the suggested folders. So I start off this journey as a new adventurer at 250lbs. I was an athlete for most of my life until a broken wrist ended my softball career. Over the last 12 years, I have added around 100lbs of fat to my frame. I am ready for this fat and lazy stage of my life to be over. . . and thus begins the hardworking and fat stage of my life (followed by the fit and fabulous stage of course.) I am in the process of putting together a diy gym in my backyard. I have made three diy medicine balls, currently braiding some heavy ropes from retired climbing ropes, made a trx style trainer using some cam-buckle ties and have one 5 gallon bucket to fill with water or sand. Now if I could just get rid of the wasps that have made a home in the clothes line poles I would be ready for business. Speaking of business, tomorrow I run the Warrior Dash! I figured there could be no better starting point then running an obstacle course with very little training. I am also already signed up for a Spartan Sprint next May, so this will be one of the main goals I will be training for. Sorry to be so long, I am just too excited! growingwings
