  1. I moved in with my mom to save some money a while ago. She is the queen of chocolate and snacks and carbs.... she loves cheese (i am allergic to dairy in general -- really allergic as having breathing problems -- not just lactose intolerant). Before i moved in we had a little talk about how we could work things out diet-wise. Mainly what happens is we have 2 different meals, like what Tinassael said. Is it harder? yes. But it is doable! Then again, any improvement you make is better than none... so if you introduce one healthier meal during the weekend, or a couple during the week, it's better than none at all. (and the entire family gets healthier) And once again, you are welcome!
  2. Welcome to the rebellion! Razor is right! You have the strength to do it!! You've been through a lot and was able to get through it, that just proves it!
  3. I am in!!!! wooohooo!!! Slow reader here so i think 6 weeks it's the way to go!
  4. I am a 31 years old woman and I have always been afraid to run. Yes, i always felt that I would fall face to the ground every time i tried. I used to dance and coordination was never a real problem for me, so i thought... to hell with that!! I am gonna give it a try!! Only, after not doing any kind of exercise for over a decade, i had to start slow. I started walking 5 k everyday. I walked 5 k for 2 weeks and then I came across the couch to 5k training and decided to give it a try. (I thought: This is it!!! Wooohooo!! -- I even set it as my goal for the 6 weeks challenge!!!) Taking into consideration that i want to take things slowly, i even planned on taking 2 weeks to get through each week of the training. I was doing 4 minutes of walking and 1 minute of jogging. Four repetitions of that plus 5 minutes of cool down time in the end and a warm up/stretch routine in the beginning. So, i started last Monday. Week one, day one went fine. I was sore all over the next day and found i had unknown muscles. On Wednesday, it went well and i wasn't as sore the next day. Today... during the second run rep, my hip gave out... it was a sharp pain right at my femur/hip joint. to the point i almost fell and it was a tough time walking back home. I have been icing it on and off since then and it feels a bit better, even though i am still limping. I really don't know what i am doing wrong and if i should be stubborn and continue with it, or just go back to walking I have been walking the 5 k every other day and doing the couch to 5 k training in between (3 times a week) (maybe I am overdoing it? I dunno!) I also do a set of strength exercises with lots of squats and planks and stuff that i dunno the name in English, 3 days a week. Maybe i simply don't know how to jog/run? As it is, my next couch to 5k training would be next Monday... Maybe if i can do 4.5 min of walking and 0.5 min of jogging it would work? or should i just go back to walking till my muscles are strong enough to handle a 1 minute jogging? Me being overweight might be part of it too. I feel much lighter and healthier because i have lost a lot of kilos already, but am still 15 kg above my ideal weight. So... As you can see i have no experience with running whatsoever... Can anyone give me advice? show me the best way to deal with this? i am quite frustrated right now and feel like just giving up on it.
  5. Welcome in!!! and Gook luck in the challenge thingy!! It's my first one too!! I am quite excited!
  6. Sounds like a good start!! Good luck!
  7. You never left the game!!! We do have a couple of set backs here and there, but -anything- you do to improve your life is better than nothing. Those logs are priceless (my doctor loves mine) and they are a good way to keep up with getting better... even if you have to go slowly... You are doing a great job hun!!
  8. Sounds good to me!!! Good luck!! And congrats om working on not being over stressed about being called the night before to know if you will work... i think i'd just go bananas with that!
  9. Baby steps are the key! i have the same trouble sticking to things... I noticed that if I start small and build a habit things happen Good luck!
  10. Awesome!! Good luck!! Have you got an idea of how much you plan to save by the end of the 6 weeks? just so it is measurable... (as finances are usually kinda personal you might have chosen not to display how much, but as long as you have an idea of how much, that's what counts)
  11. @Laney: I hear you. I am a big supporter of buying books (both ebooks and paper books). I have an ipad and i get my ebooks from the apple store thingy. Only when you convert the currency, it is a big chunk of the budget for most brazilians, thats all. (i'm just being whiny about how much i spend really)
  12. There is that! It's quite hard to get new books and such here... You either have to pay a ton of money for a kindle/tablet and then get them on amazon or some other source, or stick with free ebooks or regular books (that are also very expensive - 70 brazilian reais (thats about 40 US dollars) for a regular sized book -- that's if it is on sale ) My thought was more on the side: if you have the book already, having it converted so you can read it. Good luck with finding a suitable app!
  13. Love your goals!! I have a similar one (kinda... and in an easier level) which is the running one... i also have asthma and it does make running harder. I am sure you will make it tho!!!
  14. Here in Brazil we don't have those libraries at all. It is just sad... yes... but have you thought about converting the format to epub/pdf?
  15. My knowledge on the subject is quite... close to none... I do have the same problem as you tho... the more reps, the more boring i find it. then the rest is history... i get fed up with it and stop doing it... I found a way to build some momentum tho and now that i am used to it, it is easier to do more reps of any routine. I started with the hacker's diet... that was way before i found NF (here's a link: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/www/chapter1_2_5.html). I am a fan of baby steps (as if i try it all at once i get frustrated and it all goes out the window in less than a month) I know it is not too much... those are easy exercises and they are all low rep... but my idea with those was to build a habit and then move on to something more appropriate that works for me, without me being bored with it... I hope it helps some
  16. Yay!!! I hope the bottle helps!! i am working at looking at the bottle so i remember to drink it!! I have managed to increase the amount of water a drink, even if i don't meet the bottle goal everyday... a little something is better than nothing!
  17. Welcome in!! and yes, i hear you!! i used to be fit and active... then lost my dad to cancer and gained around 70 lbs... then lost my grandpa and gained a few more... i thought i was a lost cause till the doctor told me: do something or the chances of a heart attack are higher than 60% before you are 35.... since then i lost around 40 lbs and after i found NF i started actually getting healthier... not just losing weight! and yes!! sleep is not overrated!!!
  18. Welcome to the party!!!! There are a bunch of nice ppl giving awesome advice!! Hope you find what works for you!
  19. Heya Sambalina, I am studying for some government tests. Here in Brazil they pay well and you can only get fired if you kill someone (and I have no intentions of doing that!). These tests are really hard and the competition is just... huge. Most of the test is based on Brazilian laws, which is not my field (I have a biology and a physics background) and i thought that 2 hours a day is not that much in a day... and i can even go to the beach and take the book with me and read there.... but you might be right tho... maybe having one day to rest would be good... if i do the 7 days a week, great.... but maybe it is better to commit to 6. On another note, I have the same problem with the water thing!! I made a bottle that helps me! you put markings on the bottle... either with "morning", "afternoon", "evening" or with times really.... keep the bottle with you... by that time of the day you have to be at the correspondent marking on the bottle... i can take a picture for you... mine is full of flavored water tho... so it is all red.... and yes, it is morning and it is marking evening *blushes* but i had some other stuff to drink last night!! Its giving me an error to upload the picture!! but here's the link: http://picpaste.com/pics/2012-09-18_10.22.32-7ODFhkqo.1347975060.jpg
  20. I had a little rest yesterday... yes... I did -NOTHING- and it was so goooooooooood!!!! but I did promise flourless it would be just one day... I woke up this morning and started my 5k training... week 1 day 1... and I found I have muscles in places that were unknown to me. I am also experimenting a new set of strength exercises... The 5k training is 3 days a week. the days I do the 5 k, I do the strength exercises (I am thinking monday, wednesday and Friday). On tuesday, Thursday and saturday, i do the 5k walk (not the training) and the hackers exercises (i think next weekend I'll be able to start rung 4) and then on Sunday i rest some!
  21. This will be my first real challenge… I started my own about two weeks ago to kinda test my goals and see if they were doable… I had to tweak a thing here and there but I think I got to some reasonable goals.. 1st diet/fitness goal – walking/ running 6 days a week. • 3 days a week do the 5k training and 3 days walk for 5 km (1 str, 1 dex, 2 sta, 1 cha) 2nd diet/firness goal – Hackers diet • continue with the hacker’s diet, doing it first thing in the morning (after breakfast), moving up at least 1 rung (2 str, 1 dex, 1 cha) 3rd diet/fitness goal – Diet • Limit carbs to 6 servings a day and log all I eat/drink (2 con, 1 sta) Life goal – Studying • Study for 2 hours a day (3 wis) Any suggestions on those? do you guys have any idea when the challenge will start??
  22. Mine are "just a bit more!" "Better do this! i wanna go to bed proud of myself!" and " i am stronger than chocolate!"
  23. Welcome to the forums!! Love your attitude!!! (Can i say i wanna be like you when i get older?? *grins*)
