  1. Ok, so after waking up and being lazy for 3 hours in bed... i decided to stretch some and put my clothes on and head out for a walk. I walked 4.5 km today... i did stop in the middle of it and made sure i looked like a crazy woman doing my exercise routine right there by the beach.... tourists looking at me with that "these brazilians are weird" type of look... and the fellow brazilians looking at me with the "WTF are you doing" look... oh well... I still have to get stuff done for the day... but the exercise bit is done!! My right foot hurts for some odd reason.. it might be my tennis shoes.... maybe i should try the bare foot walking thing?
  2. Welcome in!! Capoeira is fun! I used to practice it when i was younger (way younger). I hope you recover fast and can get back to it!! Cheers!
  3. Welcome back!!! I'm trying to find the motivation to walk in the mornings!! (i cant run... my knees bang together and then the floor is suddenly my best friend). Just like you i have a hard time following through with stuff... I'm trying the whole creating a habit deal now... They say 3 weeks is all it takes to create the habit, after these 3 weeks the level of motivation needed is -way- lower! Keep up with the good work!! I gotta head out for a walk!
  4. woooohoooo!!! we are down to 19!! Thats awesome!!!! Sounds like a good progress there... just be careful with your knees!!! all sorts of interesting noises can be not fun!!! >.<
  5. Mmmm yeah... she is!!! and so are you!!!! anyways... tomorrow i get the exercise routine done again. I don't know if i will walk or not... it will depend on how the day goes...
  6. Mmmm... to be completely honest... i was happy i did it... but didn't enjoy doing it! I think i'll need some motivation for that as in "a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" type of thing.. i am not sure how i'll do it, but i am not worried yet... i still have 3 weeks to find that motivation! We'll see
  7. That is an awesome reason alone to learn Japanese!!! I started learning Japanese online about 2 years ago, but got sidetracked due to too many things happening at once in my life. I used this website that is somewhat like a social network and people that are native in one language and are learning a new one will actually teach you their language (and you do the same with your native language) It's a nice knowledge exchange! I dunno about posting the links here, so if you want the website message me and i'll give it to you
  8. Right... I am up, I've had breakfast and i have done my exercise routine.... The squats felt easier today and so did the run and jump part. the push ups are still very hard and after 2 knee push ups i feel my arms all wobbly and like jello...as for the custom sit ups, i am increasing them by one repetition per day. Cranking up the music to eleventy really helped me get through it all in a more pleasant way too... I'm feeling good!!! Oh and today i have to run some errands!! I have decided that i will walk instead of taking the bus. It is not that far!! about 5 Km round trip!
  9. nuh huh!!! I won't need to find any ABBA... coz i will win this bet! If you want to make it harder on yourself by -having- to do it by 8:30 am even with a week vacation in paradise -and- the small-fry going back to school, that's up to you, dear... but i am good with you just walking... exercise is exercise no matter what time of day
  10. I am glad you are feeling good about all this!!! Keep up with the good work!!!! can't wait to read tomorrow's workout!!!
  11. You really dont want to listen to ABBA do you?? LOL
  12. I'll keep poking you here and there!!!! 3 weeks!!!! You can do it!!
  13. I'd say a walk is a walk... no matter what time of day!
  14. Mmmm.. Maybe you could have a family walk in strange cities!
  15. I guess it is time to start recording my stuff publicly... at least the exercise part. My main goal right now is to form a habit. They say it takes 3 weeks for you to create a new habit, so for the next 3 weeks, i'll do my set of exercises everyday, if not i'll have to play and listen to 5 ABBA songs, and that is... torture!! (I am sorry ABBA fans) I have just started exercising after years and years of doing nothing other than working and sitting on the computer. Therefore i am starting small... A little something everyday is better than nothing at all right? Baby steps towards the right direction! So this is what i am doing: It is based on the hacker's diet, with a few additions here and there (thank you flourless!) The exercises start small and then increase in number of repetitions and eventually difficulty. What i like is that you do it at your own pace. This is the second time i am trying to start this, the first time i stopped after a while (get ready for a lame excuse here) << ohhh i feel so lousy!!! my back hurts!!! I won't do it... just today!!>> Guess what?? the next day became a just today too, and so on. So i decided to start over... from the very beginning. It is divided in rungs... the beginners level goes from rung 1 to 15. I am on rung one. Bends - 2 (this one feels more like a stretching to me than anything else, Even at my fattest state i have always been able to touch my toes!) Sit ups - 3 (the first day, i could hardly lift my head from the floor, now i am on day four and i can actually lift it so i see my ankles!) Lift leg - 4/leg (Lie face down on the floor, legs slightly apart, with the palms of your hands under your thighs. Lift your left leg, bending at the hip and knee, while simultaneously lifting your head from the floor. Smoothly lower both your head and leg. Then lift your right leg and head in the same manner -- i must say, it was a piece of cake with my right leg, the left leg was way harder, but i feel that it is starting to "feel" right) Push ups - 2 (It is knee push ups. It is hard enough to get two done with my knees on the ground - i guess this one is the hardest one for me. My upper body has never been strong) Run and Jump - 75/7/30 (this means 75 high steps, counting when the left foot touches the floor, 7 jumping jacks, and another 30 high steps -- i still get all kinds of breathless by the end of it) Things i have added: shoobie's sit ups thingys - 10 of each (i am not sure how to call these in English. I used to do them when i trained capoeira (brazilian martial arts). They are basically for your lower abdomen and sides -- so 30 total) Heel and toe walk - 6 (3 of each style -- i walk back and forth in my 2m tiny living room) squats - 6 (i must say that along with the push ups, these were the hardest ones -- my legs are not used to it anymore -- it didn't -hurt- just felt uncomfortable) Reverse Plank - 6 (that one was easy for some weird reason) In 4 days i am supposed to go to rung 2! Hopefully the squats and push ups will feel easier to accomplish by then!!! In 3 weeks, after this habit and a couple of others (involving me keeping myself organized) are settled, i'll try and start walking maybe? We'll see how it goes! This may seem small and too little... but i'll get there!
  16. It always helps to have someone prodding and poking you when laziness prevails. Support does wonders when it comes to motivation...doesn't really matter if it is virtual or real/Life support, i must say!!! <<pokes a bit>> Time to get started!!!
  17. Heya!! It all seems like a great plan! I particularly like the small goals part! It makes it easier to work with. Keep the bigger goal in your head, but take steps towards that bigger goal everyday. It does work and as smaller goals are easier and faster to accomplish, the frustration levels are rarely high! Way to go!!
  18. I am very eclectic when it comes to music. But some bands i do enjoy listening to while doing my exercises are: Shinedown, Skillet, SIXX AM, Drowning Pool, Halestorm, Three Days Grace, Sick Puppies, System of a Down and so on...
  19. That's awesome!!!! Congratulations, Grubby!!!
  20. I can understand that giving you confidence in other areas as well. It's you taking control over your life and when you conquer that, it changes you. I am gonna try the yelling at me... i respond well under pressure! why not put the pressure myself? As a matter of fact, i just finished breakfast... (GO DO YOUR %$%#ING EXERCISES SHOOBIE!!!) Thank you for the warm welcome and for the advice!
  21. Thank you Corey! Counting calories is more or less what I am doing, but instead I count exchanges (which are related to calories count as well). Makes my life a bit easier i must say. As for exercising, i am still trying to find out what i like. You are probably right when it comes to it being another chore (it is what it feel like and the fact that all i can do is grumble to myself the 5 min prior to exercise time, probably means something) Thank you for the tips and the warm welcome!
  22. I've started the hackers diet... it is a set of exercises that you do at home and you go at your own pace. I quite like it.
  23. I've started taking baby steps towards a better life last march. Reason why I started it was basically the doctor telling me that the chances of me getting a heart attack before the age of 35 were higher than 60%. Given I am 31... I chose to not take the chance! I've made some progress. Lost 19 kg so far... so I must be doing something right... I started with a high protein diet and decreased the amount of junk food/candies and alike that I'd eat. First step was to record everything I ate onto a spreadsheet. In the beginning it was damn hard and the only thing that made me follow through with it was a close friend keeping an eye on my spreadsheet and holding me accountable for it (both updating it and what the content was). Nowadays, eating a fruit, or a cereal bar comes more naturally than eating a chocolate bar (yes I am a compulsive chocolate eater... i can't eat the one little square) and updating it is almost natural. Since I started this whole eating habit change, I also started changing a lot of things in my life. I am more organized, I use a calendar (Believe me, that's huge!), I try not to put things off for another day and it's been working quite well. There's still a lot of room for improvement and my main goal is to keep up with the eating habits change (there's still a lot of room for improvements) and the exercises (*sighs*) My main struggle at the moment are the exercises. Most times I just can't bring myself to do them (I know, I know... robot mindset... haven't been able to accomplish that just yet). There are no excuses for it and I am not trying to come up with one. I just have to get over it, I know... I started trying the hacker's diet exercises. It takes 15 minutes and it is not that bad. Hopefully i'll be able to keep up with that one and it will give me the momentum to get out of the apartment and go for a walk at the beach. (Baby steps!!) Well, that's me!! Nice to meet you all! PS: Don't mind the English mistakes, please
