  1. Hello Rebels! One of my biggest impedements to starting a change is breakfast. I LOVE to have a big breakfast and unfortunately, it seems to crush my motivation for most of the day. Sample Breakfast (eaten about 3 hours after I wake up) - Roll with three (3) fried eggs, sausage, and cheese - Poppy Bagel with scallion cream cheese - S'mores Pop Tarts - Iced Coffee Ugh. I've been reading about juicing and thought that making a juice for the morning might help me get on the right track since when I do happen to eat a better breakfast, I have more energy and have a much better chance of sticking with it that day (no brainer, right?). Has anyone here tried juicing for one meal? I'm not too interested in a total juice cleanse, just for one meal maybe. Does anyone have any advice? Any good websites to check out? Thanks in advance for any feedback! ~ Mike
  2. Wow, this is the topic I was going to search for and it happens to be top on the forums. I'm also not here to self diagnose, but I just came back from a $12 lunch at McDonald's, and I can barely even remember the thought process of why I decided to go there. I work in NYC and have a million food choices, all of which would have been better (even better tasting and still bad for you), but I walked into the fast food joint and ordered far more then necessary. Half way through the meal, I was uncomfortably full, but it didn't matter. I ate it all and now sit at my desk with a stomach ache and much regret. This has happend way too often and I'm really glad to see others who are experiencing (of have experienced) the same problem. Does anyone have any advice? Books to read? What caused you to break out of it? Thanks in advance for any advice/support!
  3. I love this thread. The Union Square Farmer's Market here in NYC has introduced me to a few different things, but ostrich has to be my favorite. It's super lean and very gamey, and mixing roasted garlic, green chiles, and sriracha can make the best burger you've ever had!
  4. Couldn't agree more with the above. There used to be times where I'd be at home alone, and I'd log onto a website and order an abundant amount of chinese food without even thinking about it. Then 45 minutes later when it arrived it took me a second to remember that I had done it. When you use the phrase "before I could do anything", it's an excuse that everyone on this forum has used before. I used to eat a normal breakfast and lunch because it was in front of people at work, and then binge on dinner and dessert because I was home alone. I read a quote in one of Steve's articles lately that really resonated with me - "A pretty good routine that you'll stick to is always better then a perfect routine that you won't". I used to make a healthy breakfast, and if I had one thing for lunch that wasn't on my "plan" (even something as small as skin on my chicken), I'd feel as if the whole day was ruined and that I needed to re-start tomorrow. When you hold yourself to completely unrealisitic standards, it's almost impossible to keep up with it, which is why we're all here. I've been combining weight watchers and a mostly paleo diet to really help me get past that. I enjoy Weight Watchers for the meetings, stories, and most of all, the accountability. I'm lucky to have an accountabilibuddy in my fiance (WW as well), but you have to find what's right for you. I'm probably 80% paleo, and I lost 12 pounds last week when I started. When I first started, I would drink black coffee (cream and sweet n low are no good on paleo), and then I realized I was taking it too far like I used to do and I was setting myself up for failure. Now I eat a ton of vegetables and I plan my meals as best as I can. Last night we had chicken nuggets with asparagus and quinoa. At first I was worried because the chicken nuggets had panko bread crumbs, and that's not "paleo", but you know what, this way of eating is 500x better then I used to be and still super healthy. Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be pretty good for you to really make a change. Sorry for the lenghty post, but impulsive eating really, really resonates with me. Good luck - hope this helps!
  5. I played for a few months and had a 60 Barb and 60 Monk with some paragon levels. I had the most fun with my Monk and would certainly suggest it for a re-roll. Unfortunately, after a while it was too redundant for me so I switched back to WoW.
  6. I've been doing the Level 1 Rookie Workout from the Rebel Fitness Guide for the past month or so, and it's going really well. I've found myself upping my weight (at 15 pounds, started at 10, then went to 12.5), and am finding the sets of squats easy enough, so I began to do them with a 20 pound bar. I'm wondering when I should move up to the Level 2 Recruit Workout... Should I keep upping my weight on Level 1, or move up to Level 2? I know Level 2 has some super sets, and three (3) sets instead of two (2), but I'd love to get everyone's input, especially someone who might have done it. I'm currently around 315 pounds and am doing this primarily for weight loss, but I'd love to get stronger in the process. What do you think? Thank you in advance! PS - I live in NYC and would love to try knocking these out in my apartment, but I'm rocking about 400 square feet right now MikeyWalnuts
  7. New York City here, Upper East Side of Manhattan to be exact. I love the fun bars, restaurants, shows, and "walk everywhere" feel of the city. I've been here three years though, and my fiance and I are looking to move to Northern NJ in the next few months. Dislikes - Sky high rent prices, not being able to have a car, did I say the ridiculous rent prices? I also REALLY hate Times Square, like, with a passion.
  8. Thanks for the info! In terms of amount of days, is it better to do three sets per body part for an all around workout twice a week, or to isolate 2 body parts per session? Biceps and Back on Tuesday, Chest and Triceps on Thursday, etc, or just better do to an all body workout? Sorry if this is a n00b question! I'm looking for a starting off point that I can work off of, so I'm just trying to get all the building blocks
  9. Thanks for the info! My fiance and I are currently doing Weight Watchers, and I've had some success there, so I think I'll stick with that and just try and change my gym routine for now (which is basically non existent).
  10. Thanks! Also, I hear always use dumbbells instead of machines. Good advice? I'm doing this mostly to help accelerate my weight loss (hoping to be 250 for my wedding next July, currently at 319), so any and all thoughts are appreciated!
  11. I'd like to begin incorporating some strength training, instead of just cardio, but I'm not sure where to start. How do you find a weight to start with? I'm under the impression it should be a weight that you can do for fifteen reps and three sets. Once that weight becomes to easy, up the ante. Any thoughts/advice? Thank you in advance!
  12. Here's a great starting point for programming - http://www.w3.org/standards/webdesign/ It's got everything you need!
  13. Hi All, As per some of the earlier posts, I've never introduced myself on a forum before, but NF is just...me. I only found the website a few days ago but I'm already excited about reading through some of the workouts, forums, etc. My name is Mike, I'm 26 and live in NYC. I'm getting married next July, and that's what prompted my search to get in shape. I'd like to be at 250 pounds for my wedding, and I'm currently floating around 319. My fiance and I are currently on Weight Watchers, but I needed something extra, considering I'm the only guy at each meeting, and Sarah (fiance) and I are the only people under 30. I also have a level 60 Monk in Diablo 3, and a level 85 in WoW, so NerdFitness seems to be a perfect fit! I'm looking forward to being an active member of the NF community, and to reach my first goal of 299 pounds. I'm deciding on whether or not to try the Paleo diet, as it could fit in with Weight Watchers, and I wanted to see if anyone had any success stories, or thoughts on whether or not it's a good place to start. Thank you in advance!
