  2. Thanks for all the replies, as usual all very helpful so thanks very much. I have been on the paleo (militantly) for about a week now and I'm recording all the intake and weight measurements. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again.
  3. Ok, not quite the rewards I was thinking of to be blunt! I like the idea of buying something like kit, I really want to steer clear of food rewards as they can lead to bad habits.

  7. Thanks everyone, I have now come to the conclusion (after reading the article Lefeux gave, thank you for that) that grains have little place in my life. I have already started the paleo diet and have been going 3 days now, hunger / cravings is definitely down and I'm losing weight so I'll see how it goes. Thanks for all your help guys and gals, really starting to love this forum...

  9. Hi everyone, I'm sure this a topic that has been discussed time and time again especially from the Paleo contingent. I've been scratching my head after reading loads of articles about the benefits / non benefits of whole grain. One article tries to convince me that I need 5 portions of whole grain products per day to lower cholesterol and maintain a healthy heart. Others say quite the opposite and suggest that it's why a lot of people are very over weight. Both points of view can not be right can they? Has anyone got any good resources to help me?   11. I've been toying with the idea of the Paleo diet for a while now and have started it today. Instantly I felt less hungry during the day. Normally before lunch I get quite hungry and have a load of food. Today was much better just by adding a load of veg with my omelette this morning. Going to do this for 6 weeks and see what happens. I have a exercise routine including resistance training so I will be interested in the results. I'll keep you posted. Rebel

    I'm interested in what people are having for breakfast. I'm avoiding bread, pasta, potatoes etc (with the aim to losing body fat) but am finding a high protein breakfast is not giving me the start I need. I have a physical job which requires lots of energy throughout the day. I would love to hear any suggestions you good people may have. Thanks in advance.
  16. I have been struggling with energy levels (that statement alone should tell me something!!) so I will adjust my calorie intake up to at least my BMR and see how it goes. I want a six pack and to lose the excess fat I have round the hips, belly and chest. My current body fat % is 17.5% according to my scales which I am aware of not being the most accurate of devices. It's difficult to ascertain the amount of calories I use during my work day but it is quite physical. Thanks for all the advice so far people, it's really appreciated.
  17. After having a chat with a buddy of mine we got talking about how many calories I should be consuming per day. The UK guideline for men is 2500 kcal per day. I have a physical job for 8 hours per day Mon - Fri, along with a 40 min walk and a 4 hour climbing session, how many calories should I be consuming? I've been aiming for less than my BMR which is roughly 2020 kcals per day. Is this madness, should I be aiming for a higher goal? It's worth adding my aim is to lose the belly fat and trim up. I'm 29, 187.96 centimetres and weigh 85kg.
  18. I find it hard to believe that TV dinners and fast foods have any useful amounts of vitamins, minerals or micro-nutrients that constitute a healthy diet. Remembering that my focus is to have a healthy body to reduce the chance of disease / illness. I am however open to suggestion and will always like to explore options before I dismiss them. What are the macros you need to hit? Are they different for each person? Thanks in advance.
  19. Very interesting ideas from all angles. My main focus isto be healthy (as I believe without health you have nothing) and to have energy levels that enable me to live the active lifestyle I want. Interestingly I recently ran out of the minerals and vitamins I had been taking for over 3 months and still feel fine after a few weeks. No real changes to speak of anyway. I will be going back to the same vits and mins and trying for another 3 months as a comparison exercise. I'm not sure if I sign up to the IIFYM diet.   21. I want to add another sport to my repertoire and like the idea of a martial arts. After doing some research I found there seems to be a huge array to choose from. The reasons I want to do a martial art are: Improve reflexes / speed Improve strength and fitness Learn a new skill, preferable with a usable application Improve discipline Not knowing very much about the subject, I wondered if anyone could cast some light on the subject or suggests ones to give a try.   22. I've heard a number of times that the typical western diet is pretty deficient in vitamins and minerals due to choice of foods and farming techniques. Should we be taking vitamins and mineral supplements or if you eat enough fruit, veg, fish etc... will that be enough?

  24. Thanks for all the info, I'm happy I'm on track with my current routine now. Walking in the morning (45 minutes) to get my body burning from word go. Breakfast being left until later once arrived at work. Watching calories aiming for a deficit of around 300 - 600 per day. 4 hour climbing sessions twice per week. Food consists of unprocessed whole foods keeping carbs to a min, avoiding the normal pasta, bread etc... Drinking enough water when my body asks for it.
