  1. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly. I can't get this out of my head. New Experiment: I'm not setting goals, instead I will populate a 'do to list'. Last challenge the goal was to 'fail better'; letting goal of fear of failure was very empowering. Continuing on that idea and from reading The Antidote, I've decided to release myself from 'SMART' goals for more generic (less dangerous) ones.* This summer I'm more interested in building a new lifestyle than hitting specific targets. Fitness Thingies to do 1. (Means to an end) Learn Barbells - scary things that they are in those weird ass cage thingies. 2. (Primary goal) Begin the 5/3/1 workout plan. Depend heavily on coworker for 'wtf mate' questions. 3. (Primary goal) Play fair. My tummy issues do not play fair, but I will have to. Eat when it is possible, don't when it's not. Keeping track of meals is probably necessary. I'd like to lose the "fuck it, I'll be sick either way" attitude. Life Thingies to do 1. (Primary goal) Cultivate that sarcastic / facetious mix that used to be my old self. 2. (Means to an end) Draft a Two (2) year budget I can live with. The best laid plans of mice and men are still evergreen documents. 3. (Means to an end) Continue reading and reflecting on The Antidote and The Art of Happiness. (Both of these were the inspiration for this challenge and credited with the progress in the last challenge.) *I'm aware that this violates everything NF challenges are about but hear me out. For example, in the last challenge I had the specific goal of getting my dog to behave better on the leash. I focused on this, and due to limited time in the day, her dog to dog socializing went down. Then when she got spayed and she really could not be around other dogs, she was STARVED for dog attention and it was embarrassing whenever we would meet another dog in the street. For me, myself, a better goal would have been 'continue to work with the puppy butt to achieve a pet you can live with'. The big example of the book I'm reading is the Everest Disaster, all those climbers seduced by the chance to summit did so at the cost of their lives (and fingers). Worth it? Not to me, so I've given myself permission at attempt the summit another day. I think having vague unobtainable goals will make it easier to live with slow progress. Especially since (If I understand) the 5/3/1 idea, measurable progress is slow.
