  1. Late to the game, but looks like quite a few warriors are zen partying with the Druids this round. Well, add me to the list of warriors needing a step back to get stuff in order. The long and short of it is: went too hard for too long, body flipped out in many ways. Now I'm actively trying to reduce stress - mental/emotional and physically and focus recovery. So, I've dropped my lifting workouts down to 2x/week and I want to focus on some areas I've been neglecting. I went back and forth on where to post this, but decided on the druids so I could keep the right perspective and remember why I'm doing what I'm doing instead of getting caught up in the warrior "lift all the things!" mentality that I find so enticing. Goal: Core 3x week Goal: Unfrak my shoulders - shoulder mobility/yoga 3x week minimum -100 pull aparts 4x week -Shoulder prehab vid 1x week minimum Goal: Walk 45 minutes or more at least 3x week Goal: Yoga 1x/week - any length, any intensity
  2. Hi Everyone! This is my 3rd challenge hoping that I don't fail it like I did with the other two. This time I will take it easier than before. Goal: Run from my house to the bus station without stopping. The distance is about 1.3 miles. To some, it may seem nothing but I've been sick the past year so I'm taking it really really easy. Steps: 1) I will jog about 2-3 times a week. 2) Yoga 2-3 times a week to stretch out muscles. 3) Eat 3500 calories a day. Life Challenges: Read a book: Currently reading "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wynne Jones Take the exit exam to pre-calculus to take calculus. Record a mix. Any suggestions on music? I think this is good enough for this challenge.
  3. I discovered NerdFitness listening to a podcast called "The Art of Manliness" (I'm female but they have some great topics) and had to check it out! I've been creepin' on the forums and blog posts for two weeks now and finally decided to take the plunge and join in the rebellion. MAIN QUEST GET FIT, STRONG, & BALANCED. (and fit back into my jeans, because I can't afford a new pair. . .) *Eat 90% Paleo for the next 6 weeks *Lift heavy things for 30-45 minutes 3 days/week *Handstand practice every day MOTIVATION: I'm a former varsity athlete who competed in sports throughout high school and college (intramural): track & field, field hockey, basketball. I'm now 2 years out of college and feeling doughy. I took up rock climbing while in college and used to go 3 times a week (indoors and outside) but recently moved down to Florida and haven't been climbing in over 3 months. I felt my best while climbing and doing yoga every week and I want to get back on track with my fitness. I've never done any sort of fitness challenge or special diet (just started eating full Paleo last week) so I'm really looking forward to tackling this with a team!! INSPIRATION: As you saw in the post title, I'm always inspired by extreme survival, whether chronicled in books (I was obsessed with Hatchet and basically all Gary Paulsen books as a child) movies, documentaries, etc. I'm especially inspired by strong fictional female warriors like Eowyn, Katniss, and Xena. (and true life warriors like Spezzy on NerdFitness!! Dang!!) I want to get strong and have confidence that I could survive and thrive in any circumstance without my body holding me back. MY "NERDY" STATS (which aren't "nerdy" to me but perhaps to outsiders): I love insects of all kinds and have a bug collection I started in 5th grade that I still treasure and add to. I'm especially fond of beetles and moths. Ray Bradbury is one of my favorite authors of all time. My husband and I have already agreed to name our firstborn daughter "Luna" (partly bc we like the name and also bc of our mutual love of Luna Lovegood) I love LOTR, Star Wars, and Harry Potter. Not a gamer, my last console was N64 that I shared with my brothers but I was completely obsessed with Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I still play these whenever I visit home. ****I'd love to connect w/ anyone who's interested in Paleo eating, rock climbing, lifting, yoga-ing, and getting your BUTT in SHAPE!!!***** Here are my starting measurements. . . Natural Waist: 26.5 " Hips: 35.5" Thighs: 24" ea Bust: 32.5" Upper arm (above bicep): 12" ea Age: 24 Height: 5'4 Weight: 130 lbs (I'm not really going to monitor this as much since weight seems kind of arbitrary next to measurements and BFP. BFP: 22-24%? I've never had body fat measurements done but comparing myself to the pictures online I guess I'd be in the ballpark of 22-24%. I'd like to be in the 17%-19% range ideally and that's what I'm working towards.
