  1. Around five years ago I tried to do it. Now I have your attention using these facts as a shameless hook, let me continue. First, don't worry about the suicide. I am now locked up on a psychiatric ward and no longer want to do it. This post is about fitness. I won't bore you with my story, TLDR version I yo-yo'd between 325 lbs and 173 lbs, completing a marathon last year at an obese 240 lbs and 5'7" tall. I ran the majority of it, but I did walk parts of the second half. Now after getting quite fit and strong I blobbied out when I got locked up on this psychiatric ward. I'm so sick of this cycle I want to be strong like a Spartan but my funds are limited though I'm not completely without cash. Where do I turn for help? I'm basically clueless just doing what the intro guy at the gym said for months, until I got locked up. You have no idea what I've been through, how could you, I haven't told you. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't that easy either. Please help me finally achieve this goal you *truly* cannot begin to understand how tragically grateful I'll be.
  2. Hey all, I'm new here and to the fitness world. I am a 27 year old new dad standing at 182cm and weighing in at 108 kgs. My goals are simple; give the dad-bod a bit of definition and to be able to keep up with my young bloke as he gets older. I really don't want to be the dad that doesn't have the energy to go for bike rides or play at the park so I'm changing that. Started at the local 24/7 gym a fortnight ago. Biggest issue I have is attendance, my job has unusual and irregular start/finish times making building a routine difficult. But I'm working on going at least 3-4 times a week where my ideal goal would be 5 days. On the other side as I'm in field service my lunch breaks are generally spent behind the wheel so eating healthy is a bit of a pain. Hoping to learn some valuable lessons to help me achieve my goals.
  3. First off, apologies if this has been asked before. I started exercising nearly two months ago. Everything so far has been bodyweight exercises, and though the results are there I don't think I'm making the best use of my time and effort. The simplicity of working out at home with nothing but a pullup bar appealed to me, but now I think I let my own bias get in the way of choosing a more effective method of training. My goals are fat loss and strength gains. So I've been looking up some of the more popular programs, like Starting Strength and StrongLifts. Surprisingly they offer pretty simple and quick routines that interest me. I have free weights in the garage, some experience lifting, and like to try StrongLifts 5x5. But first I need advice from a community I can trust (that's you guys and girls). So a few questions: -Are these programs advisable for my goals? -What kind of build can I expect from following the routine? -Will lifting weights this way equate to better bodyweight performance? (more pushups, pullups, etc.) -Is there an even more effective routine you know about? All opinions are welcome. Help this loser make something of himself! EDIT: Second this was posted I noticed like 3 threads asking the same thing. I am error
