  1. Hey y'all! I'm Sparkle, a 24-year-old lady in the final months of her master's degree eager to join the Nerd Fitness party. Long time lurker, first time poster, as some people would say. My class/leveling system is a trifecta of broad categories. First, there's the badass fitness stuff (Assassin class). Then there's learning creative talents and indulging my need to Make Cool Stuff (Magelet class, aka Fledgling Magic Maker). Last but not least is gaining independence and the skills needed to jump into new situations gracefully, skills like learning new languages and traveling solo (Princess class). Because I'm a fantasy-obsessed nerd of the first water, I couldn't resist creating a "best version of myself" character and writing a fantastical story to mirror my real-life challenge adventures -- read the results in the spoiler below! As a first-time challenger, my goals are going to be pretty simple this time around. Assassin Quest: The Adventure Begins Go for a run at least 1X per week The weather is finally nice in the midwest, so that means I can get back into running! Huzzah! I've missed it over the winters. Nothing far or fast, just a mile and a smidge, but one day I'd like to get a mile time of 8:20 or below, so this is a good start. Magelet Quest: Come Away, Come Away Take (at least) 10 minutes each day to do something actively creative - turn creative wishes into action and bring them to life I have lots of projects I'd like to do in future, so rather than waiting for the ideal long, uninterrupted chunk of time to start them, I can work on them incrementally now. For this challenge, that means tracing out the line work for a series of Arendelle-inspired skirts and a Cinderella-inspired dress and skirt, so the visuals are ready to be printed and cut into stencils when the time comes. In the depths of business school, at a time when I'm deeply missing the work I used to do day in and day out as a design major, these "daily design snacks" will help keep me from going bonkers over Econ and Finance. Princess Quest: Into the Unknown Apply to three design positions per week The job hunt begins in earnest! Looking for design positions in my home city of Seattle means I have to balance school and job-searching, which is a little weird -- it's been tough to make time for job stuff when I feel like school stuff always has to come first. Making job stuff part of this challenge means I have a solid goal and accountability. If you've made it to the end of the Great Wall of Text, well done you! Get yourself a cookie or something, you've earned it.
  2. LOADING... Hey guys, I feel like I'm currently in the "loading screen" portion of life, meaning that I'm finally getting my head in the game and my butt off the couch, but I'm not sure what the game is. This is a place of anticipation and expectancy, however. I'm finally facing my fear of commitment to myself! I've been making small changes in my life despite the fear of failure or the fear that I'll somehow be the ONE person on earth that making healthy changes doesn't work on. I have some basic goals for this challenge (which I forgot to post about LAST Sunday) and hopefully throughout this week my mystery theme for this challenge will reveal itself~ Consistency is Key - 1. Keep a food log of every meal eaten during the week 2. Keep an exercise log of every bit of exercise done during the week 3. Drink 3L of water every day Teamwork makes the Dream Work! - Have one miscellaneous community workout weekly (Ask my friends to play frisbee/basketball/Quidditch/ect.) I'm really looking forward to putting some success on my sleeve this challenge. I wonder what'll happen! How will this unfold.
  3. Hey everyone! My name is Bonnie and I'm a 30 year old from Kansas City, MO. I'm what most people would call a 'jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none' type who has trouble focusing on one thing until completion. And I'm here to change all that. I've been reading Nerd Fitness off and on for who-knows-how-long and I'm glad I've stumbled back across it while trying to formulate an exercise plan for myself. My roommate and I just joined a gym and have been going kind of casually (warming up, easing into things), but I'm definitely in a position where I'd like to concentrate fully. Since a young age, I've been struggling with my weight and eating habits, and have never really made any kind of progress. No longer. I'm over 200 pounds and that's gotta stop now. So, I've adopted Xena as my personal muse. She's strong, independent, and can seemingly fly, so I feel like aspiring to be her could be impossible, but just attainable enough to keep me going. I will be like her. I realize she's probably more of a ranger or an adventurer, but my own personal goals are more in line with the assassins, so that's who I've joined. I want to do a pull up (muscle up, eventually). I want to climb a rope. Learn aerial hoops. Start a hip hop dance crew. Do a back flip (amongst other gymnastics goals). Realize my childhood dream of being a gymnast. Be a contortionist. Just something. I feel like I was meant to be an athlete, but I just didn't have enough self encouragement. Haha. I'm also interested in other things as well. I taught myself graphic design and web design at the age of 12. I've been a member of various online forums (not in a few years), the longest of which was a Harry Potter text-based RPG that I miss dearly. I love to play Minecraft and Stardew Valley. I love to watch television and it's probably my biggest vice. I'm a painter, and I sing like an angel. I've also taken up photography. I have an adorable dog who's almost five years old (in September), and I love her more than life itself. And I'm an awesome cook. There's probably more, but I hope to be posting often on the boards so we can get to know each other. Nice to meet you all! See you around!
  4. Introduction: Hi, I'm SirCharlesWatson and this is technically my second challenge, but I completely failed the first one. My first challenge was in January I think. I started it and then got lost in the shuffle. This challenge however, I'm kind of doing a running start. I joined a weight loss competition that started a week after the NF challenge started so I'm going to count the rest of this challenge as a whole challenge. My wife and I are both in the weight loss competition so it's a good motivator to do it with her. We've been tracking all of our calorie intake and exercising a lot more. I have worked as a software developer for the past year and that has taken an extreme toll on my health. In January, I weighed in at 220, and by June, I was 260. My mental and physical health was very quickly going down the drain. However, I just lost my job a couple weeks ago, which, oddly enough, I felt was a blessing. I've had a lot of time to focus on getting my health better and I feel fantastic compared to how I felt at that job. So, that leads me to my goals... Main Quest: My main quest is to get down to 200lbs. When I started the weight loss competition, I was 264.4lbs. Last week I was at 254.4. I changed my diet this past week so that I am eating my TDEE - 25% and consequently, I gained a little bit of weight and as of this morning, I am at 256.2 after peaking at about 258. So, ultimately I want to get down to around 200. I anticipate that number will change as I exercise more because, as we all know, muscle weighs more than fat. I'm using 3 BF calculators to determine that my BF is around 27%. I am 6'2", so I'm reasonably tall. Quest 1: Using the basic routine at startbodyweight.com I will exercise 3x/week (M,W,F) Measurement: With 7 workout days left, each day will equal about 14%. I'll take 14% off of 100 for every day missed and round down to get my grade. A=100%, B=75%, C=50%, D=25%,F=0% Reward: A = +3 STR, +1 CHA B = +2 STR, +0.5 CHA C = +1 STR D = +0.5 STR F = +0 STR Quest 2: Using the static stretching routine at startbodyweight.com I will stretch at LEAST 5x/week (M-F) Measurement: With 11 week days left (including today), each day will equal 9%. I'll take 9% off of 100 for every day missed and round down to get my grade. A=100%, B=75%, C=50%, D=25%,F=0% Reward: A = +3 DEX, +1 STA B = +2 DEX, +0.5 STA C = +1 DEX D = +0.5 DEX F = +0 DEX Quest 3: Using MyFitnessPal I will keep track of my daily calorie intake. (Every Day) Measurement: With 17 days left, each day will equal about 6%. I'll take 6% off of 100 for every day missed and round down to get my grade. A=100%, B=75%, C=50%, D=25%,F=0% Reward: A = +3 WIS, +1 STA B = +2 WIS, +0.5 STA C = +1 WIS D = +0.5 WIS F = +0 WIS Life Quest: Complete 3 sections on AccountingCoach.com each week. After my terrible experience with software development, I have decided to move on to something like Accounting that will be a little less taxing (No pun intended) on my brain. My focus is going to be on Bookkeeping. I'm using AccountingCoach.com to study and am currently on part 4 of the bookkeeping training which I will be starting on monday. I'm trying to keep weekends free from studying so i have time to focus on my wife. Measurement: With 2 work weeks left, I'll need to complete 6 sections. A = 6, B = 5, C = 4, D = 3, F = 2 Reward: A = +3 WIS B = +2 WIS C = +1 WIS D = +0.5 WIS F = +0 WIS Motivation: I feel disgusting. Well, not as much anymore since I started the weight loss comp and have been eating much better. I was out of breath just going up the stairs. Part of my motivation is My wife, and my future children. I want to be healthy and be able to play with them and have the strength and stamina to go all day with them. I don't want to be one of those dads who just sits on the couch and watches them from the window. I want to be out playing with them. And for my wife, I want to be there to provide for her; I need to be healthy and I also need to have a good career that isn't detrimental to my health. So that's a bit about me! Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you guys around!
  5. Hey everyone, I'm back from the dead. The new challenge guidelines are... interesting to say the least. So here's to the next six weeks. (And Wolve, I stole your goal layout. ) MAIN QUEST Get back on the path of becoming a Parkour beast. GOALS Flexibility Stretching, light yoga or beginner's body contorting every day to limber up and improve my flexibility. (No, I'm NOT having a secret affair with the Druids... okay, maybe a little.) Body Weight Training Basic body weight training and at LEAST four days a week. Endurance Running at least twice a week. Not as much as I used to do, but there's a lot going on in my life for now. Life Goal- Juggle This might seem a bit off, but there's a method to this madness. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, but one option is that I've seriously considered joining the circus. I know, right? So, it might be a good idea if I learn a few marketable skills, like juggling. So I want to be able to juggle three balls, or at least be well on my way, by the end of the challenge. Just to find something to juggle...No Diet/Fitness Goal for me. STARTING STATS Height: 5'2" Weight: 145 lbs (approx.) Chest: -- Waist: --Motivation I want to amaze someone. Anyone. I want them to see me do something out of the ordinary and be inspired to exceed their own limitations.
  6. Hello Adventurers (or converts)! Would anybody like to join me on a quest to prepare for the Assassin's guild? I'm doing body weight workouts and will be doing extra stuff between my 4 challenge goals that will help me build the strength for parkour. We'll back each other up along the way. Post a link to your current challenge if you're interested! Welcome to the Brotherhood.
