  1. Preface Chapter Two: Firestone, Millet, and a whetstone named Effort This year I decided my challenges need to have continuity—I can’t drop and switch goals if they seem too hard. I have to report instead. So I’m reporting that I did nothing much for the last couple of weeks, except walking. I am so tired that standing or having conversations is difficult. Last challenge was dry January—no alcohol. I also tried a high dose of vitamin D, and a lightbox. None of these stopped me from getting hammered by an intense slug phase. I’m going to try no sugar this challenge--bitter February. I can have sweet ingredients if they’re part of a meal, but no sweets, desserts, sweet drinks, or dried fruit by themselves. I am also going to try ZMA because why not. I will also be very gradually winding down my excessive caffeine intake in preparation for next challenge, which will be no caffeine. Six cups this week. Five next week, etc. I don’t know how much I can do for my key goals at the moment, but I should make at least a token effort: to keep the habit space open, to reinforce my identity as a writer, warrior, etc., and to ensure that inactivity doesn’t continue making me tired even if the other causes resolve. One deadlift, one sentence, on page, one line. Anything except nothing. I am struggling with my review of Firestone, but I should scrape a draft together and send it to my brother to review. Meanwhile, I can start reading and making notes on Millet. I will continue with my dragon age: inquisition tarot card master studies, and maybe paint some creatures using some of the techniques I learn. (It’s too complex inventing costumes… I’ll have to learn that separately at some stage). So in concrete terms, this challenge's quests are as follows: Writ: Look at my chart, tick off what I did. Report here. Warcraft: Token lifts six days. Walking at least six days. Running is out of the question at the moment. Weaving: Token reading, writing and painting every weekday. Witchery: Prayer first thing & meditation in the afternoon after painting. Willowy: No sugar, max 6 cups of tea (this week), and stick to the low risk drinking guidelines.
