Hello! I'm signed up to run a Spartan Sprint and Super for the first time this year and I need some gear. I want a good quality pair of compression shorts or capris with a sturdy draw string that will stay put and not slide down the whole time. I'm 5'7, 146 lbs and usually a medium, depending on the sizing guide. I'd like something long enough to, at the very least, prevent thigh chafing (so no super short shorts), and possibly 3/4 length to protect my knees. I've been looking into CW-X Ventilators (they seem good, but expensive) and 2XU, (which are much less expensive, but possibly just as good??) and any input, advice or suggestions would be appreciated! I would also like to invest in a good pair of trail running shoes that will drain water and have a pretty aggressive tread for running trails and OCR courses. I've been looking at Solomon and Inov-8. Again, any advice, reviews or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm guessing this would be the appropriate subforum... I was training a bit for my Spartan race in Feb over the weekend. I was talking to my coach about it and he mentioned compression gear. Like everything else, there's a debate on whether it works, makes you like Superman, speeds up recovery time, etc. I guess my question is what sort of compression gear do folks use for these OCRs? I'm looking at UA's Sonic HeatGear line but there's some other neat stuff by CW-X and 2UX. I know most racers go shirtless but until I look like a minion of Sparta, compression shirt it is. I'm guessing a pair of compression shorts with compression socks would work for both racing and general training. If I were to wear a shirt, he recommended wearing a short sleeve compression with arm guards for the flexibility. This is probably a fairly open ended question but curious what others wear. I think regardless I may get some compression socks just to help with calves and shins during some of these long runs / hard workouts. Although I'm sure shorts would have helped during my tire pulls... bleh.
