  1. Been playing a lot of Destiny lately, so what better way to create a nerdy workout plan! Goal is 3x a week, plus at least one 'off' day taking a long walk or biking to work. Hunter: Back and Shoulders Lat pull Seated rows on machine Pull up (assisted) or hang Bicep curl to shoulder press (dumbell) Lateral Raise (dumbell) Rope machine 2-5 mins 20-30 mins cardio + stretching Titan: Legs and Abs Squats/goblet squats Leg press machine Calf raises Inner thigh machine Outer thigh machine 15-20 mins cardio + stretching Warlock: Chest and Abs Pushups 3 sets to failure Cable crossover L-fly machine Woodchop (dumbell) 20-30 mins cardio + stretching Ab workout: Crunches Scissor crunch to failure x3 Reverse crunches Plank to failure Would like to add some actual olympic lifts at some point, but I need a spotter.
  2. Grandkai Training as Bladedancer There's something to be said for the blade. A knife won't jam. A knife won't run dry. A knife is very, very quiet. Leave the noise and fire to others. There's work to be done, out there in the dark, Monsters that deserve death, delivered quickly, sometimes silently, and without mercy. Goal 1: Finish the Hero's Journey program Last challenge i started the Hero's Journey program from Darebee and after a week off between challenges in this challenge im going to finish it. Goal 2: Train the handstand. Everyday in the morning ill practice the handstand for 5 minutes. Little goal: Become a better Bladedancer In Destiny i mostly play a Nightstalker and in this challenge im going to train to become better with blade dancer. Gonna play a lot of Crucible and goal is to.....Average a K/D 2.0 Well thats all for this challenge, not a whole lot but just enough for now.
  3. What does it mean to be a hunter… I’d say its all about where you belong Warlocks have their libraries, Titans have their Walls, But Hunters belong in the wilds, out there…. If you want to live you need to have a quick shot or a sharp blade.. A lot of us are loners, but thats not the only path. Some of us know the difference a fire team makes… Some of us.. we touch the void, make it part of us. And then we take a name….Nightstalkers Hunt from the shadows, pin them down, never let them see you coming. Grandkai Stalks the Night Goal 1: Train for the wilderness = Complete the Hero's Journey program I need to get stronger to be able to survive in the wilderness. I really enjoyed the 30 Days of Gravity that i did with the last challenge and i wanted to try another Darebee workout. I looked at Hero's Journey before and it looked like a fun program with enough variety to keep it fun. Plus it has its RPG choices which can make other workouts easier or harder. Goal 2: Getting the best advantage point = Perform the 30-day Flexibility Challenge To be able to get to the best advantage point to take down the target i need to be flexible enough to get to that point. So I'm going to perform the 30-Day Flexibility Challenge from Darebee to increase my flexibility to be able to move more. I've done splits during my last challenge, i made great progress with it. And i want to keep that flexibility and one day be able to drop into splits. Goal 3: Waiting for the target = GtG for the Resting Squat (Aim for 5 times a day) When I've found my target i need to hold that position for long periods to wait for my target. I'm going to Grease the Groove for the Resting Squat to be able to easily perform it. When I'm home ill perform it when I'm going through the hall to another room (either toilet, kitchen or bedroom). And when I'm at work ill try to do it when i have a moment of time. I'm going to aim for at least 5 times a day. Gonna try to put something up every day (and hopefully a picture with it, either destiny themed or a cool assassin picture) Let the stalking begin.....
  4. Ryuu1011 Rises in Iron Challenge #6- September 12 - October 22 I respawned at the very end of the last challenge and figured it was better late than never to respawn and get back towards my fitness and life goals, so this is a continuation of that. Since playing too much Destiny was one of the reasons that I got into this mess in the first place I decided to make this challenge themed based on the new DLC that is coming out for Destiny: Rise of Iron. Goal One: Train for the Combat to come = Go to the gym/workout 3x per week ____/18 One of the reason that my fitness started to decline was that I just stopped going to the gym, and working out really at all. Video games and just watching Netflix became what I did when I got home instead of working on my body. Its time to fix that and take control of my life again. My goal is to get into the gym and see the other guardians working out and help myself become stronger and more disciplined. Unfortunately, I don't have a fire team to help me on this mission so it looks like I'm going solo. Goal Two: Fit into my Battle Armor again = Loose 6lbs and 2%BF Start: 172.3lbs Goal: 166lbs Start: 22.1% BF Goal: >20% There are going to be lots of new armor sets coming out and I want to be able to fit into them! Not shockingly when you're not exercising or eating right you tend to gain weight I'm currently the heaviest I've ever been lbs wise and my BF is a very sad 22%. I've got a long way to go to get it back down to where I was and where I want to be. The most depressing part is the fact that it is hard or impossible to fit into some of my pants anymore, and while super depressing is also super motivating because I don't want to buy new pants! hahaha Goal Three: Learn about my Weapons: Record all food intake in MFP (MyFitnessPal) for 6 weeks _____/ 42 In the war of diet and exercise if exercise is the combat, then diet is our weapons. And I need to visit the gunsmith and prepare for battle. I need to get my diet back in order to get to where I want to be. So the goal is to just get into the habit of logging my food, good or bad, in MFP. Hopefully that will help and seeing the calories will help me make better choices. Goal Four: Study the Ancient Archives: Read Spartan Fit ___/1 Reading about history has always helped prepare for the future and I know that reading about diet and exercise and the Spartan mindset is sure to help, so instead of watching TV at night I'm going to try and read this book. Loot Ideas: New workout Shoes $$$ towards a Spartan Race Dip Belt New Book (Level Up Your Life) Throwing Knives Starting Photos: [Incoming] Starting Measurements: Abs/Waist: 33.25 Arms (unflex/flex): 12.5/13.5 Calf:14 Chest: 40 Hip: 34 Shoulders: 46.5 Thigh (R/L): 22/22 Butt: 40 Neck: 14
  5. Do you love playing your guardian? Heck, do you want to BE your guardian? This is the group for you. Let's "raid" our goals. Or do a strike. Whatever. I may have I taken a hit off the good wormspore earlier. <3 Cupcake9001
  6. Welcome to the exciting Adventures of JediNickD! It seems like forever ago that I joined this site and started my first challenge. Judging by my level, you might say I'm right! But level and experience mean nothing unless lessons learned are applied in your life. This website has given me practical knowledge in goal setting and planning. Throughout my life, I have been applying that knowledge. In my career, in my job, in my home life, in my Toastmasters training, in the gym, in my Jedi training, and even in my video games! Throughout the next few challenges, I plan to focus my Jedi lessons around this passage from Return of the Jedi where Obi-Wan says that quote: This challenge, I'll focus on the quote in bold by Obi-Wan Kenobi. In this part of the conversation, Obi-Wan plainly states that Luke cannot escape his "destiny". That word destiny implies a predetermined path laid out for Luke. That predetermined path is the ultimate struggle of good versus evil (light versus dark sides of the Force) in the Star Wars galaxy by being the son of Anakin Skywalker and being powerful in the Force. Being a Jedi and weilder of the light side of the Force, Luke cannot avoid his confrontation with the dark side, because it will hunt him down to either recruit him or destroy him. Since Luke cannot kill his own father, he decides there must be another way. He confronts Vader and the Emperor on his own terms by surrendering, then we all remember what happens. The lesson to take away from this quote is to confront your problems on your own terms. Do not let your problems chase you down or haunt your dreams. The dark side will find you. For Jedi, confronting the dark side is their destiny. It can be defeated with intitative, accountability, and honesty by taking ownership and being confident that a solution will be found. Doing so will give you an advantage over the obstacle and sometimes force the solution to appear one its own. That is what confronting something on your own terms means. Now, on to the CHALLENGE! My mission is to be the best Jedi I can be. My main quest is always to enhance my overall health, fitness, and knowledge to be prepared for whatever challenges life could throw at me. As a Jedi, I need to be able to help people, whether that is a life threatening situation or just a charitable one. There is no boss level in Jedi training, there is only tomorrow. I'm changing things up for this challenge by eliminating all the Side Quest Goals. I'll still use the Excel spreadsheet and Battle Log, but I will not set any specific weight or rep goals. I am adding a new training technique and incorporating what I learn from the MAX Workouts eBooks I bought recently. The new training technique is a Complex workout where you move through a series of excerises without putting the weight down. MAX Workouts stresses power and intensity while working the whole body in one workout to achieve maximum fat burn and build lean muscle. I'm taking both concepts and combining them to something I call Combo Complexes. An example is Deadlift into a Bent-Over Row then a Squat into a Overhead Press, 10 reps each with the same weight. My plan is to eliminate the time consuming and boring cardio from my workout routine. I loathe running more than a mile. I'll do it on occassion, but I don't want to rely on it to keep my weight in check. My main quest with attribute points is below: FITNESS: Build STA +2, STR +2 and DEX +1 by conducting powerful and intense Weight Training for 20 minutes or more, three times a week. Schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday (optional). FITNESS: Build STA +1, STR +1 and DEX +2 by conducting muscle recovery Training for 20 minutes or more, two times a week. Schedule is Wednesday, Friday, Saturday (optional), Sunday (optional). DIET: Build CON +2 by eating healthy 35 times or more, eating unhealthy 16 times or less and count their calories, drinking 200 fl oz of Dr Pepper or less, taking care of my skin and lips by applying moisturizer 80 times or more (twice daily), brushing (twice daily) and flossing (once daily) 120 times or more. LIFE: Build WIS +2 and CHA +2 by completing two Toastmaster Speeches, completing Lesson 4 of my High Performance Leadership project, and completing 2 IJRS Personal 101 lessons.I'm three lessons in to my High Performance Leadership manual, but I'm in the bulk of the work now inlesson 4, which I won't complete until May. I finished my second Competent Leadership manual and have only one speech left in my third Competent Communicator manual. I have 1 speech left for my Advanced Communicator manuals. I plan to do a Speechcraft training session for the 1 hour training session I need to do for my Advanced Communicator Gold, so I can earn my DTM. My Club Coach and Area Governor roles are going very well. Jedi Training is progressing. I'm hoping to finish the course this spring.
  7. The Ranger Guild Master walked towards where the townsfolk had pointed him. His nose told him he was getting closer. He knew that Half Ogre was nearby. Sure enough, he rounded a bend and saw a makeshift camp, and there was GoodDoug, the HalfOgre, finishing eating a pie with his hands. GoodDoug looked up sheepishly, "I wondered when you were coming to find me." "Haven't seen you around these parts, what you think you can go save the world and you don't need us any longer?" GoodDoug shuffled uncomfortably, "I've been..." "You've been slacking. And it shows. Now come on back to the Tower, we're going to need your strength again" Going with a Destiny theme as it seemed appropriate right now I have a confession to make. I've failed the rebellion. Like others, I have gone into the world with my new habits and skills and thought that was enough. I can lie to myself, but my scale and tight clothes won't corroborate those lies. I've started to get back into food tracking with My Fitness Pal and have gone back to the gym after healing my knee and back... but I realized that I don't have the strength to do it alone. I can't solo Vault of Glass, I need a fireteam. In short, I need you guys. Main quest: Lose fat, gain strengthMotivation: Be around for my kids, feel better Titan questline:Lift all the things! Titans are like most like the Warrior aspect of the Ranger. The goal will be to lift 5 tons per week. Any combination that adds up to 5 tons will be accepted, but I expect you all to call me out if I do 325# calf raises 10 reps 5 sets as a bulk of my weight.Awards: The Armentarium (http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/The+Armamentarium) +3STR +2CONBonus - Deadlift 3x and squat 3x in those 6 weeks, award, 1 strange coin and 2 motes of light Hunter questline:Run! Hunters (those specializing in Bladedancer) need to run fast to get in close to the enemy. The goal will be to run 3 times per week for a total of 7 miles for the week. Awards: Lucky Raspberry (http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Lucky+Raspberry) +2CON +3DEXBonus - Until I get my double jump high enough, I'll need to practice climbing up on ledges, 5 pullups per day. Not all at the same time, but throughout the day, award, Patience and Time sniper rifle (http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Patience+and+Time) Warlock questline:Mind of matter. Or more specifically, mind over meals. I must use the power of the light and make sure I don't fill the Void with crap, but rather refuel myself with appropriate food. The goal is two fold: 1) Track every day 2) Eat a primarily Primal diet (85% primal every day)Awards: Voidfang Vestments (http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Voidfang+Vestments) +2INT +3WISBonus - Work on my game I am building at least 3 nights per week, award, Fate of All Fools scout rifle (http://destiny.wiki.fextralife.com/Fate+of+All+Fools) Finally- the only way I will survive this challenge is by relying on the Rebellion, on my Fireteam. So, I must check in with at least a small update every day.
  8. “Ahhh, there you are. I’m thankful to have found you, Guardian.†The calm, smooth robotic voice echoed in the daylight. I blinked away the brightness of the Sun and took in a deep breath. My body was swept over by chills and for the life of me; I could not remember where I was. And thinking beyond that, I can’t remember who I was, either. What was my name? “Don’t be alarmed, Guardian. You have been gone for a very long time and now that I have found you, we mustn’t waste any time. I am a Ghost, well, now I am your Ghost. I know you have questions concerning your whereabouts, but all will be told in due time. The Fallen are right on our tail and we must find a ship and get you back to the Tower!†I stood frozen with confusion and fear, my legs heavy beneath me. What did the Ghost mean ‘I had been gone a very long time’? And why did he keep calling me ‘Guardian’? I had a million questions that needed answering but strangely I trusted this odd, floating little robot. It reminded of something I use to have when I was younger… a rubric’s cube, maybe? Everything was so fuzzy, I wasn’t quite sure I had the name right. The Ghost disappeared into the air and then his smooth voice rang out inside my head. “I’m still here, don’t worry. I’ve materialized to the neurons in your brain so you can hear me. I will guide you out of this hellhole but you have to follow my command and stay alert. The Fallen will do everything they can to try and stop us from leaving. Fifty meters away is an old, abandoned factory building; run over there and we’ll see if we can find you a weapon. You’re going to need it.†I distant roar echoed in the background. This must be the Fallen that the Ghost had mentioned. My legs began to loosen so I saw it fit to follow the Ghost’s command and head towards the abandoned building. “There are some things you will need to learn and learn quickly to survive, Guardian. As a Guardian, you have special gifts from the Traveler. We’ll get more into that once we arrive at the Tower. Learn to use these gifts as they are an extension of yourself and will greatly aid you in your journey. You must be strong and you must be brave. The evils you will face are many so you must always be ready for a battle.†As I entered the building, I was beginning to understand the gravity of the situation. Somehow, I was special and I could slowly feel the strength in my lungs and heart. Adrenaline was flowing through my veins as the thought of a fight ensuing excited me. “What am I, Ghost? I asked. Before I could continue, I had to know the answer to this simple question. "You are a Guardian, brought back from the brink of death to battle the oncoming Darkness. You were once called, The Wolf; a warrior brave and bold, courageous to the core and willing to give your life for those you cared about. Your reputation precedes you, Guardian. You will back to true form in no time. Let us proceed, Wolf, I sense there are enemies up ahead.†Fallen? Guardian? It took everything in me to not shake this floating Ghost until I received all the answers I needed. I was becoming frustrated. Inside the building, the deeper we trekked, it grew darker. I was having trouble seeing and the Ghost answered my thoughts. “There should be a main generator somewhere in the main part of the building. Stay here and let me go find it. The Fallen are expert hunters in the dark.†Ghost materialized again and sped off into the blackness. A sinking feeling of being alone suddenly overcame me and for the first time I was afraid. “Don’t be afraid, Guardian.†I could hear the distant voice in the darkness. “You’re much stronger than you realize.†If the Ghost could smile, I believe he would have at that moment. The reassurance gave me confidence. Just then, the lights began to flicker on one by one. Off in the distant I could see these ‘things’ crawling off into the crevices of the building. Those must be the Fallen. Did that have four arms? “Move, Wolf, the Fallen know our location. Be ready for a fight!†I took off into the corridor to my right and stumbled upon an assault rifle. It looked to still be in good condition. I quickly picked it up, checked the ammo, and planted the stock of the gun in the soft spot between my chest and shoulder. It was now or never to prove what the Ghost had proclaimed about me. If I was once a great warrior, then this should be a cake walk, right? Alright guys, there’s my attempt at some Destiny role play. I’ve been playing the game like crazy since it’s been out and love every minute of it! I decided to role play a Titan even though the only character I have is a lvl 12 Hunter at the moment. I’m doing this for 2 reasons: 1) The Titan is definitely more my play style since I like to play closer up w/ melee and shotgun/hand cannon weapons, and 2) Hunters seem to be the most popular class out there right now and I don’t like to ride along with the masses. I like to be different, lol. Edit: I've been playing more with my Hunter and have decided against role playing him. So what, if others want to play with a Hunter.. He's a badass. I'm not gonna let others throw me off cuz he may be popular in-game. And I do just fine melee with the Hunters knife. Plus, I've gotten really good with the knife throw [emoji12] I’m excited about this 6-week challenge for a # of reasons. I start my new job Monday, I have a brand new baby boy, Orin, and life, just overall is good right now. Orin is growing, Heather’s and my marriage is better than ever, and I have Race and Declan, my other sons who make life so interesting and fun. I love them all dearly! Here are my goals for this 6-weeks: Goal #1: Get functional! I just recently acquired a 10-lb steel mace that I absolutely love to workout with. Using the mace is considered functional fitness. So along with the mace and my 45lb KB, I will be required to workout with one or both of them daily. Whether it be using the “bursting†method of 5 min at a time 3-4 times a day or an actual workout. For the long missions and battles I will partake in; a Guardian needs to be battle ready! Possible points: +3 DEX, +2 STA Goal #2: Grease the Groove I’ve stopped doing this with my pull-ups and want to get back on it! Every other day I will grease the groove with pull-ups. I must get at least at least 50 reps in throughout the day to call it a success. I wanna start getting my strength back. The strength of a Guardian! Possible points: +3 STR Goal#3: The 80/20 rule I need to get back to eating more paleo. I have found that certain foods don’t mess with me like others do. Legumes still mess with me. Every now in then I’ll eat some rice and don’t feel any adverse effects from it..but adding some white rice to sweet and sour chicken is DA BOMB! But the thing that’s killing me these days is I started drinking Pepsi again. It’s just so good when it hits your lips! I haven’t had any in days, so I’m doing better-but I wanna cut soda’s all together and just be more conscience about what I’m eating. I will follow the 80/20 rule where 80% of the time I eat clean. And then 20% I can have a little fun with..like say, Cookie Butter from Trader Joe’s with some dark chocolate…YES PLEASE! Keep a food log of sorts to be held accountable. A Guardian cannot be weighed down by bad eating while taking on the many enemies of Destiny! Possible points: +3 WIS, +1 CON Goal #4: The Perfect Balance of Chaos A wife, three boys under the age of 5, a new job, planning to move out of my dad’s house, keeping up with my workouts, and playing some Destiny... this all equals Chaos. But I believe I can find the perfect balance to do ALL OF THESE THINGS. So here’s to laughing at the small stuff, being the leader of my family and kickin ass in my workouts, new job and Destiny! Possible points: +3 CHA I’m excited about role playing this challenge as I play Destiny. It’s something I’ve wanted to get back into anyhow so I hope you enjoyed the beginning part?! As always, follow along for inspiration, madness, and a good laugh every now and again! The Wolf
