  1. As we head into the remaining days of the year, I’m grateful for all that I have accomplished in 2023. I’m focusing on squaring things up at the tail end of the year: turning in last assignments; making some small organizational decisions; and focusing on rest. The success matrix remains the same: having my homework done and my house clean. The stats skill tree has grown this year, and I’m very glad I took this approach to my challenges. It’s easy for me to lose sight of what I accomplished six weeks ago, and I’ll be thinking about how I want to level-set the skills going into 2024. In a lot of ways, when I look at the stats where they are now, I think they are descriptively accurate. I am not sure how much more I can add, and it will be an interesting exercise to see what sort of skill enhancing I can add in, kind of like finding Seven League Boots (a car) or a Bag of Holding (better organization in my backpack) or a Thinking Cap (the academy’s writing center has been a godsend boost). I definitely need to rest and recover. Last challenge I expanded my activities beyond what I thought I would ever be able to manage, and I did it with grace and dignity even when I had no clue how it would work. I am proud of all that, and also I know that grace and dignity need rest, too, just like any other muscle that gets a workout. The biggest gain was to Stamina. While it was only a couple points overall, that there were any gains at all is a big deal. And to keep that, I’ll need to have a bit of a recovery period. This is a time of strategic retreat, a time to shelter inside during the gathering darkness and nurture the embers. Welcome. Pull up a seat by the fire, and tell me about your day. 2. Bouncer walked into the mining town of Phandalin, the snowcapped mountains overseeing the mining town before her. She sighed with relief at the smell of the smoke from the forty to fifty small houses, warmth was here. Mountains were already tough, but in the winter with not enough equipment. She was surprised she had survived where she could find a town before freezing to death. Walking down the dirt road, Bouncer noticed among all the newly made houses and shops were crumbling stone ruins, signs that a much larger settlement was here beforehand. Bouncer noted how the town was small but bustling with activity, shop keepers giving her a smile to speculate how much coin she had to spend. The cheery busy workers, each one had a weapon that was easy to grab, which she found intriguing by the lack of walls or soldiers. They had a desire to protect themselves from something, but what? Bouncer looked down at her own rags that were barely keeping her warm in the mountains and her empty satchel, at least with the current coin she could find some new equipment and get some warm rest as she figured out what the new town had held before her. Quest of the week: One needs to make sure they have enough rest to be able to explore a quaint town. This week I am focusing on getting enough sleep, because I know I am fatigued. My desire is to start my bedtime routine at 7 pm, This has been a goal I’ve been working on forever, and I need to make it strong enough so it's a thing I do not a “ifs, butts and coconuts” thing I do. The result of getting more rest, the more Bouncer can get to know Phandalin. 0 - wasn’t able to explore due to not resting well enough, you are starting to look suspicious to the local town folk. 1-7 days: Each day I sleep, I can explore one key establishment (5 is the goal), with extra wins Day 1: Stop at the Inn for needed rest (Day 1 is enough to bump into a new random party member) Day 2: Stop at Lionshield Coster for new armor and weapons Day 3: Visit Barthen’s Provisions for extra equipment and Gear (I get to know enough of the town to choose my NPC party member) Day 4-5: Visit the other points, and I can make a Custom Party member race with random stats Day 6: Get to know the town enough to make a Custom NPC I want to make (may have bunny members) Day 7: Surpassed my own expectations and my party member has a loyalty bonus and maybe with an extra coin just for me FYI for behind the scene goals that are strong: Going to the gym twice a week for Coach made strength training workouts (Tuesdays after work and Saturday mornings), trying to find ways to have extra movement every day (goal is 15 mins a day.. This is meh). I meal prep every weekend, and eat a balanced plate. I’m also working on trying to make habits for cleaning my home with the Flylady system. Side goals I would like to get done this challenge: -Pickup my living room enough to move my table closer to the kitchen (unknown reward) -Do my taxes (1 gold piece reward) -I’ve joined a weekly group that requires me to show up Sunday (Add a new party member at the end of the challenge) -Going to my estranged family member's wedding shower in April... (reward Fairy trinket) Current life goals: -Get strong enough to have an easy move in June/July to upgrade my home for cats (also have a clean home to display for pre-move) -Get strong enough to enjoy a day at an amusement park with my long-legged brother (get a tad slimmer to enjoy the epic rides a bit better)
  3. Ahoy-hoy friends! Welcome to my first challenge of the new decade! Starting things off with a mix of every-day goals (teeth, bedtime) and by-the-end-of-the-challenge goals (ride my bike, pay off the credit card, chip away at subject readings for class), the last set of 'goals' are really more like 'get-back-to-pre-holiday-weirdness' (gymming twice a week, going to Auslan practice, DnD-ing). Extrapolation of the goals + GIFs!: Bedtime- go to bed at 10pm each night. Have a warning timer at 9.30 to remind me to take my meds and get myself sorted. Buddy-goal: charge my phone on the drawers, so I don't look at it in the night, and so when the alarm goes off I have to get up to turn it off. Ride- I have a new bike-to-work buddy. Ideally I would ride to/from work with her twice a week, but to start things off for success I am aiming for five rides total. These can be split into 'in' on one day and 'home' on a different day as I build up my leg muscles. I am fairly sure after my last ride that my brakes are actually constantly on, so I will check that tomorrow, if they are I may not be as unfit as I feel... I hope it's the brakes haha. Credit card- this was accidentally still linked to one of our food delivery services, and we managed to wrack up $220 in orders and interest before I figured it out. I've chipped away at it, but want to clear the remaining $120 before the end of this challenge. Teeth- now knowing that SLS is what makes toothpaste feel like it is fire, I will buy a brand of toothpaste that doesn't have it in the ingredients, and try again to build this habit. If that means I'm brushing with baby bubblegum toothpaste, so be it. Gym - twice a week. Git swole. 2020 goals are to drop bodyweight to 70kg, then lift: Deadlift 140, Squat 105, Bench 70 (2:1.5:1). This will only happen if I am consistent about going to the gym (holidays to America excepted). Sign/Auslan- this kicks back off next week after the holiday break. I did a little practice over the holidays, but it mainly consisted of watching the live news coverage of the bushfires and trying to follow along with the Auslan interpreter (beardy translator is my favourite, content warning for the faint of heart... our country is on fire) DnD- I haven't been throwing myself whole-heartedly into playing lately, and the reason is a bit silly... Duunack (my half-orc barbarian) made a deal with a devil, which (of course) has led to a bunch of chaos and put the party on the road to hell (literally, we're visiting Dis). I was carrying a lot of guilt about it IRL, in fact I cried about it yesterday while discussing it with Mr. After our chat I feel much better and am focusing on playing the game for the game, not to try and /win/ (oh hello, perfectionist). TLDR, here's my bujo~

  5. Nettis Clovenmark felt the aches in her knees as she squatted in the brush, observing the narrow animal trail leading down to the river. She had been out in the forest for days, ever since the sickness came to the village. She knew that the link must be in the meat the hunters brought back, but Nettis was no hunter. Her attempts to find the deer and geese were all ending in frustration. In order to solve the mystery Nettis would have to work on getting quiet, being still, finding calm inside herself. She would have to make her body flexible enough to fit into small spaces and remain still while the animals approached her. Nettis stood and stretched, shaking her head and making her ear tips flap and chasing off the gnats. A deer snorted and dashed off through the underbrush, startled by her loudness. She sighed in frustration. This was going to take some work. --,--'-@ @-,--'-- Coming into this spring and this year with two injured knees and limited mobility made it a bit challenging to figure out how to move forward into a new challenge following my reboot. I have decided to continue some goals from last month focusing on meditation and yoga in order to keep working on being comfortable in my body. As well, I am working to attain NFA diet level 3 this challenge. In terms of leveling up my life, I plan to focus on creative space and enrichment in my life. GOAL1: Nutrition. I am going to be working the NF Academy 10 level system in order to move towards level 7 as a long term stopping point. This month I am shooting for level 3. I will track my calories and macros on MyFitnessPal 7/7 days with the goal being to have at least 1 vegetable in every meal and limited liquid calories 12/14 days. The challenge gives me 2-ish tries to get it right. GOAL 2: Meditation. I used to have a robust daily meditation practice and I miss the mental clarity and the ritual of it. I will meditate at least 10 minutes daily, 7 ays a week. GOAl 3: Movement. Due to the knees I am keeping low-to-no impact until I lose 50 lbs. My movement goal will be yoga for 10 minutes 5 days a week. LEVEL UP MY LIFE: Creativity I neglect my creative development all the time. I am a fiber artist and a writer. Both of these passions are things that I want to grow, but that I never seem to find the time to do properly. I have finally been given my own office at work and I want to put some of my weaving up. I also have several writing projects including a YA novel, a DnD campaign and 2 professional CEU trainings to work on. As such, I will plan to spend 5 hours on each of these passions weekly.
  6. Hello! I'm a veteran (?) dieter who also play D&D with Pathfinder as most familiar system. My PC class of choice have been/ is unfailingly support-caster with minus Strength modifier, barely passable Dexterity (mostly for rolling Initiative) and obligation-amount Constitution. It.. quite fits. This caster would like to improve squishyness and worry less about survival. GOALS This might look a lot, but most of it (aside from moving) I'm already doing though more accountability/better record would be great. I. Lose Over-Capacity -2 Strength modifier. Starting weight 65.2 kg (143.7 lbs), target weight 63 kg (138.8 lbs). Weigh everyday. Take 'before' (and 'after') pictures at the beginning and end of challenge (my week starts at Monday so it'll be March 20 to April 16 for me). II. Rationing Rations Food matters. Meal prep (enough for) 5-6 days out of a week. I have been taking up Paleo/Primal Diet since last year, though it ebbs and flows (I like to bake/feed people with gluten-foodthings). Lately I have been tinkering with Perfect Health Diet as well. Still tweaking my optimum food composition. Keep a food log. Random Encounters: Socializing-proofing. My diet's bane of existence are those eating out socializing sessions. The food are usually overpriced, not that delicious and almost always not paleo-friendly. Love the activity and company, but rarely the food. The last few times I managed to either bring my own prepared food/meal or only order a small appetizer/ half portions. Going to count all the wins on this! III. Casting Stat is Not End-All DCs and associated Skill Checks aside, the idea of being here and suffering exercising is to build physical stats. While I prefer to stay back and watch other people fight for me, the situation is/will not always be ideally so. So I must prepare and get stronger. Build CON (stamina) (still not sure how to measure this). Do cardio/walk around total of 3 hours per week (while listening to audiobooks/ lectures). Raise DEX & STR (flexibility and muscle strength). 60 minutes of Ballet Beautiful, 2-3 times per week. Mini Side-quest: Take pictures of bending/toe-touching & split 'befores' and 'afters'. EQUIPMENTS Cooking kit + ingredients + containers. Digital scale. Yoga mat. Elastic/ resistance band. Running/ crossfit (?) shoes. MP3 player set. Fitness Bullet Journal (Traveler's Notebook insert). REWARDS Week 1: Ballet Slippers Week 2 & 3: Sports Shoes for Outdoors Week 4: New Body Mist/ Leggings Goodluck everyone!
  7. Quest 0 - Hoard of the Dragon Queen I've been letting work get in the way of my workouts ... I'm frozen! (see how I made that work?) before week 1 I'm going to do at least 2 runs and a kettle bell workout! Quest 1 - The Rise of Tiamat Stretching! Everyday I'm going to do 10 minutes of stretching! A: 28 Days of stretching! (Wis +3) B: 20-27 Days of stretching! (Wis +2) F: <19 Days of stretching! Quest 2 - Princes of the Apocalypse Movement and mobility! 6 days a week I'm going to do some running/jogging. This could be long distance running + sprinting + hill work etc. A: 24 Days! (Dex +2, Con +2) B: 23-20 Days! (Dex+1 Con +1) F: <19 Days! Quest 3 - Out of the Abyss Tuesday+Thursday Kettlebell beast mode! A: 8 Days of Kettlebells (Str+3, Sta+2) B: 4-7 Days of Kettlebells (Str+2, Sta +2) F <3 Days of Kettlebells Quest 4 - Curse of Strahd I've been letting myself mope about and not be as social or out going as I should. Plus my photography has suffered from lack of doing it.
  8. Missed a challenge and getting started halfway through. Life has been crazy busy. Got my costume done (ish) for Steamposium and that was a fun event. Pictures are still on my camera. Continuing from my previous "Self as a Dungeons and Dragons 5e character" themes. I am halfway to level two which will be next challenge. Dex: Kick balance Practice 3 times a week on finding the right spot when I pivot for kicks. My side kick and round kick aren't fast enough, it takes me too long to find my balance. Enhancing my Proficiency in Artisan Tools: Finish a book. I am working on a handwritten book for my son's birthday, and I need to finish it before his birthday (the 25th)
  9. Following up on the previous challenge with the Dungeons and Dragons Theme Main Quest: Defeat the Villain Within: Loose weight and be Be healthy So in 5th edition you pick your character with three key pieces of information, Race (Human, Elf etc), Class (Monk, Rouge, Wizard), and Background (Sage, Pirate, Artisan). Last Challenge I started with Race, and now on to Background. I feel like the Sage background works best with my job in Information Technology and inclinations of a geeky nature. In standard DnD stats I feel like the following:STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA 9 9 9 13 11 10 Background: Sage 1.A Sage is skilled in HistoryI have looked at ancient method of food preservation and will be trying to culture some vegetables, a la sauerkraut etc. So I will be trying at least two types of cultured veggies this challenge. 2. A Sage knows where to find information he doesn't haveI need to work on relationships and accountability. So I need to post regularly and follow other regularly on the forums to build that knowledge and connection to the community. I should be reading and posting at least 3 times a week on the forums, I should be reading one book a week on health topics (or medical research articles). 3. A Halfling is nimbleA repeat from last challenge. I need to improve my flexibility and height of my kicks. I have yet to find what exactly I am doing, but I need to start somewhere. Life. A Sage has proficiency in ArcanaArcana: relating to the arcane, convoluted, nitpicky and other hidden arts. My wife and I are going to be setting a variety of personal goals. A few physical, but most related to things around the house and our routines. We are setting a goal of 400 points. All members of the family can contribute by their own goals, and when the 400 points is reached we can get a Wii U. For example, my daughters getting out of nighttime pull-ups can earn points, or my son in first grade reading a book a week, or my wife and I spending a day off electronics, etc. Some points for finishing projects we keep procrastinating etc. We actually are going to talk about the final specifics tonight.
  10. So last challenge I started out strong and things fizzled a bit, especially on the posting. So lets go again even if a week behind. Main Quest: Defeat the Villain Within: Loose weight and be Be healthy Last challenge I started with the Dungeons and Dragons Theme and I figure I will continue with that a bit for the next few challenges. So in 5th edition you pick your character with three key pieces of information, Race (Human, Elf etc), Class (Monk, Rouge, Wizard), and Background (Sage, Pirate, Artisan). So for this challenge I will start building the character with Race. I feel like a chubby stout halfling, enjoying my food and writing. In standard DnD stats I feel like the following:STR DEX CON INT WIS CHA 9 9 9 13 11 10 Race: Stout Halfling 1.A Halfling (Hobbit) is nimble: (+2 Dex)Stretches, and flexibility routines 3 times a week. My wife and I have been complaining of this, so hopefully we can do it together. 2. A Stout Halfling resists poison: (advantage to save vs poison)How else to resist poison than to stick with eating lots of good food. Target 3 -4 cups of vegetables a day, and explore better cheat foods. 3. A Halfling is Brave: (Advantage to saves vs. fear ) For some reason I hate going to testing, so I need to practice my TaeKwonDo form and get to testing this month. Life. A Halfling is Lucky: (reroll natural 1's)Still working on getting things done like last time. Do one project a a week. We have to paint the garage inside (previous owner smoked in a lounge he created in the third bay of the garage), and I want to finish writing this Sojourner Tales Story Module I have been working on, etc. I will post about the project each week as we decide on what is the priority. Images from Morguefile.com and yes I reused them from last challenge, oh well.
