  1. I've had this idea knocking around in my skull for a while, and I figured I'd test the waters & see if anybody would be interested. The idea: Skype or chat-based D&D group for NF members with weekly 'meetings'. The plot twist: Your adventurer's class/race is based on the class/race you picked for yourself for 'gamifying your life', and can only gain experience/level up through your performance in the 4 week challenges. I had the idea after seeing all the fitness challenges that were based on nerdy situations (kill the boss by doing pushups, travel to mordor by running/swimming/biking actual miles, etc). I thought they were fun, but I kind of wanted to take my character on an actual adventure, where she fought with a sword, collected loot, and had a real storyline, but where her power came from my own abilities. It would be pretty motivating to know I really needed to work hard (train hard!) on doing as well as possible on my challenges (which I have a history of losing motivation for ) if I wanted to stand a chance of defeating a big, bad monster/rescuing some personage/getting that loot. Plus talk about accountabilibuddies - the group would be personally invested in each other's fitness success! I'm hoping I'm not the only one that thinks this would be fun/motivating, and I'm also hoping there's some saint out there that would DM for this, because 1) I have no idea how to do so and 2) I kinda want to be a player, cus I'm not a saint. Ideally, the group would consist of a DM, and 3-5 players (including myself of course) of a few different classes. If you'd like to play, but don't really want to be your own class (or if the group has a strong need for a different class), that's fine - I just personally would find it more motivating for my own class to match. So... Anybody interested?
  2. Welcome do Dungeons and Dragons, the Doodlie version. Everyone is welcome to participate By participating you DON'T become a Doodlie, it's just that this game in this form has been invented by the doodlies. A short recap of how we play You start by copying the character sheet and fill it in (see rule book for details on this). After this you put a link to it in your signature, and put the link on the sign in sheet. The name of your character is the same as your name on the forums! This makes it so much easier for the DM's You've got 4 primary abilities. You can level these up infinitive by doing stuff in real life like doing cardio, strength training, meditate or learn stuff. Besides that you've got extra ability's you can choose to your liking, to shape your character. By choosing a specific race or class you gain bonuses for certain abilities, but you're not limited to them. The DM (doodlie master) tells a story. You tell the DM how you wish to react to the circumstances the DM described. He or she will determine, by rolling a dice and comparing the result with the ability that's applicable in that situation, if you're successful or not. For example: You wish to talk to a cute guy in a bar. Since you're a beautiful elf, the DM decides this shouldn't be too hard for you, so she uses a D4 (a dice with 4 sides). (Or the DM decides that this is very hard since you're an ugly ogre and she uses a D100 (a dice with 100 sides)). She looks at your psyche level, say you're level 3. With the D4 you'll succeed by a roll of 2, 3 or 4. (With the D100 by 98, 99 or 100.) The DM rolls the D4 and you get a 3. The cute guy is willing to talk to you. Say you roll a 4, since that is the highest role the cute guy comes to you and tells you everything you wan to know. Or you get a 1, and the cute guy slaps you in the face and leaves. We play from January 8th until February 4th If you want you can post a short introduction in this thread. If you have any questions, let me know. Links Rule book Character Sheet (copy it and fill it out, don't forget to alter the share settings so everyone can see it) Sign in sheet
  3. All right, folks. We got another game brewing. I think we may have found the interested players already, although more players coming on would be at the discretion of the DM, whom I am posting this for. Time to roll the dice...
  4. Hiya, I'm Jay! I've been on the forums before but I'm really bad at being a part of any kind of community because I'm bad at putting myself out there online. About Me! So, I'm a little neuroatypical nerdy gendermess living in Western Massachusetts with my partner and two cats. My hobbies are playing Fantasy pen and paper games like D&D and Rolemaster. I'm a big fan of video games, Skyrim, Fall Out 3, and Minecraft are among my favorites. Also, movies. Movies and I are best friends, they are my rock and my soft fuzzy blanket. As my username suggests, I like Grungy 90s music and Gardening. You can find me on Tumblr by the same if you like random funny stuff. Why am I here? Why is anyone here? It's pretty much the same story as everyone. I'm not happy with my body and health. I'd like to find a healthy way to shed all these pounds I've accumulated over the years. I'm about 275 pounds right now with bad knees, it's just not working out for me. I'd like to look into a mirror and see what I see in my mind's eye. Especially with being a gendermess, if I lost some weight, that might help with how I feel about myself. I'm hoping that keeping an account of what I'm doing on here and making some friends to cheer me on will keep me on track. GOALSSSSSS! The goal is to be able to go hiking! I love camping and being in nature, but I want to do those things without feeling winded and out of shape. I'd like to be able to hike Mt. Tom and some of the Appalachian Trail maybe! I really like walking long distances for some strange reason, it's always been something I didn't mind doing after the initial "I don't wanna!". I don't like running and swimming isn't in my forte. Hiking and Walking are my jam! Also, with all the walking and such, I'd like to get out of the "Extremely Obese" section of the BMI chart. (Even if it's a horrible way to dictate if someone is healthy or not.) How can you help? Every good hero needs some help, whether a companion or just a cheering section. I need that cheering section! To make it to my goals, I need someone to be like "Yo, Jay.. Good job!". An accountability buddy would be wicked cool! Also, if anyone is in the area, I love chatting while walking. Also also, any tips or suggestions on exercises would be awesome. Oh yeah, how am I doing it? Plan is to try the Weight Watchers' Simple Start program because 1.) No point watching 2.) Grocery List! 3.) Healthy Foods and Recipes that I can trick my partner into eating. I'm not a big fan of Weight Watchers in all honesty, but it's worth a try to get into healthier eating habits. I'm also planning on doing Full Body Strength exercises, Long Distance Walks and possibly Yoga. So yeah. Be my friend, friends!
  5. Moderated Thread: A Sticky Situation of Goblins and Spiders This is a moderated play by post Dungeons & Dragons game. Please only post here with permission from the Dungeon Master (Gainsdalf). Everyone is welcome to follow along with the adventure as well as to post and discuss the game over in the Out of Character (OOC) Thread. Village of Melva The walled Village of Melva is the home of a 30-40 family farming community 60 miles west of the largest city in the area, Delfraca, and 30 miles east of the Dwarven mining city of Dorga. Due to it's location between the two cities, Melva supports a larger than average supply shop and multiple inns in addition to a few of the more common tradesmen such as a blacksmith and a wood worker/wheelwright. It is currently midday in late summer and the gates stand open on the west/east road running through town. A few villagers stand watch atop the walls with short swords on their hips, but are busy chit chatting and not really watching the road. One gets the feeling that the town doesn't see much trouble. A small inn and stables stands outside the gate on the eastern wall for late arriving travelers, and is currently closed up for those coming in that way. The fields surrounding the walls would typically be bustling with activity, but today they stand empty. The reason is clear, it is The Smith's Day! Each of the gods has a day dedicated to them, and today is dedicated to the god of creation, creativity, and crafts. Within the walls are a few dozen tables along the streets set up by merchants and locals alike to sell their favorite arts, crafts, and wares. From the town square, the sounds of music and cheers come as people play games and dance.
  6. This is the Out Of Character (OOC) thread for the play by post Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) game I will be running. Everyone, playing or not, is welcome to comment here on anything involving the game. I am looking for 5-8 players to join in on the fun and will have the following expectations of the players: First and foremost, have fun and respect other players. Don't take this game too seriously, it's way more fun when you don't.Have basic knowledge of the rules. I have a digital copy of the rulebook, I will send it to anyone who needs it, just PM me your email. I do not expect someone new to know exactly how a round of combat involving grappling and a dagger with two creatures of different size is handled.Post 2 times per week. If play naturally goes faster, I will try to keep up and support it. Most posting will happen during the week. When in combat, combat rounds will have 3 days between DM posts so everyone has time to keep up.If I know you can't post for some reason, that's fine, I'll take control of your character while you can't. Just email/PM me to let me know and it's a non-issue. The point of the rule is that we're not waiting for people to post and having the game held up.You'll get a warning or two, but if you continually hold up play your character will be gobbled up by a passing bulette or band of orcs. You don't want this to happen as you both lose your character and cause the party to have another unexpected encounter they may not be prepared for.Any and all rolling I ask you to do should be done at http://www.cyrnus.com/cgi-bin/rollem.cgi with my email entered into one of the fields and yours in another so that the roll is sent to me.Character creation will be done using method V in the Player's Handbook (PHB). In short, roll 4d6 dropping the lowest die on the dice roller 6 times and assign those stats as desired. Don't create a character until I tell you you're in the game. That should be it! I'll edit and add more if needed. I do have a few custom rules: Magic & Priests Custom Races (to be posted and linked) Once we have a game thread, I will link it here. Do not post in the game thread unless approved to do so by me. You need to create a character and submit a character sheet to me that I approve of before you will be able to post. I plan to have people join the thread to role play as I gather players before kicking off into the action.
