  1. Hi. So, this is my first "woot", and normally I wouldn't post something so seemingly inconsequential, except I'm trying desperately to be happy with every step I take forward, as motivation has always been an extreme struggle for me. If you want to know a bit more about me, see my intro here (it's a pretty self-critical and honest intro (maybe too much so); just to set your expectations if you click the link). So I've struggled with working out a few times in the past, but for a long while now, I have been off the wagon, so to speak. It has probably been at least 6 months, if not over a year, since I tried. And I've been pretty stationary that whole time (even when I was working out, didn't accomplish much on account of not knowing what I was doing). Today, though, I took my dogs for a short walk, which again, is hardly anything, especially since one of them (who is a bit old) decided he'd had enough before we had gotten very far, and so the walk was actually cut short. The point is, I got up out of my computer chair and went outside and got a little exercise, which is something rare for me. So uh, w00t I guess, heh.
  2. Greetings all! I finally decided to take the plunge and make an account for my first challenge! Where do I start without blathering on? Hm. Current job = crap; trade school = 95% done. Yey! I'm about 173 lbs of blobby shape. Two summers ago, when I got a gym membership and worked up to being able to run around nearly non-stop for several hours in my martial arts's grand melee, it was exhilarating. Juggling work/school/mental health last year didn't leave much room for running, so I'm back to square 1. With classes winding down, I have more time and mental fortitude to go running and doing the things! Main quest: I want to get down to 160 lbs by the end of June. To this end, a few friends and I have begun to train for a 1/2 marathon later this year. I also love the idea of the Walking to Mordor quest, so I'm adding up my distances for that as well. First step to losing weight: getting active, so let's focus on that this round. Quest 1: Gym twice a week for at least 30 min, but ideally 60min. Measure - A = 12 sessions, B = 10 sessions, C = 8 sessions Reward - A = +3 STA, B = +2 STA, C = +1 STA Quest 2: Body weight circuit at least once per week. Measure - A = 6 sessions, B = 5 sessions, C = 4 sessions Reward - A = +3 STR, B = +2 STR, C = +1 STR Quest 3: Walk around the block at least twice a week (2 miles each). Measure - A = 12 walkies, B = 10 walkies, C = 8 walkies Reward - A = +3 CON, B = +2 CON, C = +1 CON (because sun is good for morale and staves off SAD) Life quest: 365 days of positivity! I made strips of construction paper and I'm writing one positive thing a day about what I did or how I feel about myself, then taping them into links and making a chain of positivity to hang in my apartment. Measure - A = don't miss a day, B = need to make up 2 days, C = need to make up 4 days Reward - A = +3 SAN, B = +2 SAN, C = +1 SAN (woo promoting mental health!) Motivation: I love the feeling of my body having the energy and ability to do the things I ask of it, for as long as I ask it to do them. This pace might seem a little slow, compared to other posts, but I'm trying to be realistic as to how much I'll be able to complete consistently at this point. There will be plenty of challenges this year to stretch myself with and lots of things I want to work on. Let's Go!
  3. Pirate Codex The following codex is written to stand as law for all who sign their names. The Vitruvian Man is said to be perfect. This Quest is in search of the Vitruvian that lies within us all. (For the purpose of this challenge this specifically means to lose weight to be <= 200 lbs. NOTE this will be updated as time progresses) To be perfect means, both in mind and body, all working together. Members of this crew are Freemen. Bearing the responsibility entailed by freedom, each member hold certain truths above all others. A members' word is his own law. Solidarity is of the up-most importance when it comes to collective aims. A sound moral courage and fortitude is the foundation of the crew as a whole. The members of this crew do hereby pledge the following: I - Each member has title to the fresh provisions and may use them at pleasure. (Eat - make healthier choices) II - Each member is responsible for the maintenance of their equipment. (The body is the only equipment that will last all the years we spend in this life.) III - Each member is responsible for participating in the social community. (Community outreach in some way helps gain perspective on your own life.) IV - Each member shall be held accountable for logging their experiences. (By logging (or blogging) experiences statistical analysis can be done to track improvement as well as keep you on track - YES I AM A NERD) V - Each member shall keep their personal lives in order by way of finances, as well as family. (There are other aspects that have to be in balance as well, do not let them fall short while reaching for your goals.) To help in this master quest there will be checkpoints along the treasure map: i - Take a "healthier" lunch choice to work ii- Log 5 miles of running in one week iii - Pay off credit debt (min $500 off) iv - Take soda out of the weekdays (weekends are separate) My motivation: My beautiful and amazing wife Marley. I want to spend as many years as I possibly can with her, and look good naked while doing it ( )
  4. 1. Main quest: To be quick and strong like an assassin 1.1 Specific quests: - Do the beginner bodyweight workout at least 3 times a week. - Run in intervals for at least 20 min. at least 2 times a week - Get 8 hours of sleep every night 2. Life quest: Save money, at least 200 per week would be great 3. Motivation: Before this challenge, I ran for a month, did yoga for a week, did bodyweight training for two weeks all at the same time before moving to another place and taking a week of rest. After that, I had a difficult time trying to go back to what I was doing for mainly two reasons: I can't find a place to train and laziness, I didn't really had any motivation for doing all of those. Simply it was like for the LOLs but after finding this page, I decided to go back one step at a time with a two new motivations. a. You know that thing that people normally always do about finding partners in life, they always look for that perfect one with the things that they want them to have. Yes, I am one of those people. The thing is that how dare I wish for someone like that when I am not perfect myself so I decided to started at myself. b. Well who doesn't like assassins... How about the feeling that you could be one? That would be great. Being that can think straight while moving fast doing strong actions. Help me be one of you guys! Thanks for reading...
