  1. Hi to all, I have a confession to make. The last time I tried to do one of these challenges I fell flat on my face and had a pile of snow trap me in the house for almost a month (not completely a metaphor). Anyways I am swallowing my pride and coming back after a long hiatus to try it again. Here are my goals: 1) get up at six o'clock every morning and do 30 min of yoga followed by 15 min of prayer and meditation before everyone gets going for the day. 2)walk, swim, run, hike, or play an active game(tag, ultimate Frisbee, basket ball, e.g.) for a minimum of 30 min a day outside of work 3) spend at least one hour outside with my family 2-3 days a week. These goals aren't exactly hard core but I believe they are the first step to maintaining a healthy lifestyle for my entire family.
  2. Hello friends! I'm Na, a Druid with a little Assassin/Scout blood, and I wanna get in shape! Somehow! Exclamation points! Okay, so my mom is sixty years old and is very disabled and can't walk, stand, or lay down flat for long. I've made it my mission to not end up like her. So if I could pinpoint one, single fitness goal for myself, it would be to be sixty years old and be able to do simple things like stand for an extended period, or lift my arms above my head. But considering that my capacity is already there, I also feel I should push myself harder than that. Plus that's a little too long term--I don't wanna wait until I'm sixty to see if I have success I'm really interested in having a healthy lifestyle overall, and feeling healthy and such. So my goals kind of go like this, from most to least important: 1. FEEL healthy as a result of a generally fit lifestyle, including a healthy diet without sugar bingeing 2. Fitness for a purpose--i.e. bike commuting, yoga for mental strength and freedom from anxiety and low self esteem (it's hard for me to work out just for the sake of working out) 3. Some looks goals: lose about 15lbs of fat or perhaps a few inches on my waist, and be a little more toned and strong, especially arms, back, and tum I'm not gonna lie, I wanna be voluptuous and be able to feel confident in tight sheath dresses, have nice toned arms and lose some of the squishyness in my face. It's hard sometimes because on one hand, I primarily want to be active and healthy as a principle, but on the other hand, I would like to have a stunning body, and I haven't historically enjoyed sweating or metrics like calorie counting. Plus, I feel discouraged from the get go because of my PCOS, and there's this part of me that feels that that's a "chubby forever" sentence, but logically I know that's not true. I LOVE yoga, and when it gets warmer I'm going to start commuting by bike because I live close to my work and it's pretty much the ultimate lazy exercise I also enjoy pilates, and am open to parkour, swimming, and bodyweight workouts as well. So far, my goal has been to do yoga every workday, and I've been struggling a little, but not too bad. I hope to overhaul my diet and reconcile my food-loving hedonism and PCOS-motivated sugar binges with my desire to live a better life. How does this all sound to ya'll? Taking a very all-or-nothing, black-and-white approach to fitness in the past has hurt me and my self-esteem in the past, so I'm trying to set small goals and be compassionate while also giving myself options that will help me acheive results. So hi! Nice to meet everyone!
  3. Joining a little late, but hopefully not too much so! Last time I logged on the current challenge was too far underway for me to feel comfortable joining. I promised myself I'd make this one, but boy how time flies! Bit about me: My name's Alex, I'm 21. I'm finishing my final year in college (BS in Business Management, minor in Computer Science). I'm also a freelance writer and editorial assistant. I am, of course, a giant nerd (Star Trek, Doctor Who, games, games, games...) Some fun facts about my health journey: I've been overweight since I was 9I went to a fitness and weight loss camp (read: fat camp) at 14I've gained all that weight back since thenMy parents both have had weight problemsI'm perpetually lazyI have too many bad habits to countI've tried an uncountable number of "fad" dietsHere's my challenge! Main Quest My Main Quest is pretty vague, I guess, but it's built out of necessity. I want to develop healthy, kickass habits while banishing all those lame, unhealthy ones. Goals Be active everyday. Whether it's just a vigorous cleaning session of the apartment or a formal gym workout, I never want to spend another day entirely sitting on the couch. Get up by 9A everyday. One of my worst habits is sleeping to much. My schedule is 95% flexible and I never have to be anywhere before 1P. I'll sleep all day and try to justify it in my mind. I think if I start getting up by 9A, I'll start getting tired appropriately and get myself on a normal sleep schedule, which should lead to more productivity. Self-monitor food/drink intake. I had to do this at camp at it was eye-opening. I'm very well versed in nutrition now, but self-monitoring is a good way to keep myself dedicated to my new lifestyle. Having to write it down means more of a connection. I'm not too worried about caloric intake, but it'll be nice to see what kinds of foods make me feel like shit--or make me feel awesome! Live Quest Like I mentioned, I'm a writing. I'm currently trying to break into business writing in order to build a stable career before I graduate. I've been dragging my feet due to low energy and low self-confidence. My goal for this challenge is to reach out to at least 50 local businesses about my copywriting abilities. Motivation My motivation is to not feel like crap anymore. I want to have more energy. I want to feel good for no reason! That should be the default. Being energized and happy. Also, I've always love this e-card: My boyfriend is working on getting healthier with me (he says he's got "relationship gut"). I'm not doing this "for him" but he is great motivation! I'm tired of feeling like I'm not good enough just because I'm overweight and lazy. Real Life Roleplaying I haven't looked too much into the stats, but here's my character so far, cause why not Race: Wood Elf Class: Adventurer Surprise, surprise. Not entirely original, but a small start! So, yes, hi guys Glad to be participating. I'm off the gym for the first time in... oh, just about FOREVER. Oh, if you want a before picture, here you go. It's old, but it is exactly what I look like today.
  4. 1. Walk for at least 20-30 min 3x's a week. I have a desk job, which i am still adjusting to and on my lunch I would like to continually walk 20-30min at least 2-3 times during the week. I am use to a more active job environment and I don't want to loose that activity and become a desk statue with my inactive new job. 2. "Salad its what's for Dinner" With kids and a full-time job its tough for me to eat right during dinner. On a typical day I have a light breakfast, light lunch, then a heavy dinner. I would like to reverse that routing by having heavier/moderate meals during breakfast and lunch while I am still active, and a light dinner during my less active time of the day. I want to become a High Elf instead of a Half-Elf! 3. Building those Muscles During alternate days (2-3x's a week) when I am not walking I would like to practice strength training through the beginner body workout here on nerd-fitness. I have been "half-elving" it (lol..get it?...never-mind) with this workout, I enjoy it and it is relatively easy I just have to keep up with it making it a routine. I Muffin87 will make my strength training a routine..not a "when I have time to"! 4. Water.......Water...... Now I dirink 2-3 glasses of water a day. I want to build up to 8 glasses a day....here is my plan: Wk 1: 3 Glasses * Wk 2: 4 Glasses * Wk 3: 5 Glasses* Wk 4: 6 Glasses* Wk 5: 7 Glasses* Wk 6: 8 Glasses *Glasses= 8oz Water Daily I want some body strength and muscle definition..."to infinity and beyond!"
