  1. Hello. My name is Kristinn. I am an icelandic 33 year old guy looking to get in shape. Right now I am close to the heaviest I've been in my life. But this will change now. My plan is to fix my diet. Kick in some more cardio along with olympic weightlifting (I started the weightlifting two months ago, it is awesome) and the goal is just to be better tomorrow than I am today! I want to weigh less, lift more and look great! So here are my starting stats: 33 years old 117kg My gym stats: Clean : 75kg Snatch : 60kg deadlift : 120kg (1 rep max) Squat : 120kg (1 rep max, was not pretty but I'll take it ) This is my starting point. The first couple of things to do is to fix my diet and get some cardio going on the off days from the gym. If anyone has pointers for cardio exercises I can do at home (preferably without equipment) that would be great! See ya guys tomorrow.
  2. Hello everyone! I have posted very little in this forum, but I plan to do it more often. Today I wanted to ask some questions about something that has been driving me crazy for almost two years now. I really really want to go to Iceland. I have seen pictures of it and it looks amazing. I have some questions for anyone who is either from there or who has been there, to see if I can actually make this happen in the not so far future. I am a student and I am planning to begin working next year to save some money for travelling in general. I saw in some websites that the cheapest tickets available to Iceland cost around €230 (with a 10-hour stop in London, but I couldn't care less about that), and I see that hostels are quite expensive, around €20-30. So here are my questions, I number them because they are many and that way it will be easier to answer: 1. What would be a recommendable budget to consider when planning a trip to Iceland (apart from the €230-300 for the plane ticket)? 2. What are the main places to go in Iceland? I'm thinking of the kind of places you can't not go to when you are there. 3. What other places are nice to go to? Maybe some places that are not very common tourist attractions. 4. What is the best time of the year to go? 5. How can one move around? Is it possible to go around by bike? If so, is it expensive to rent bikes there? I think these are my questions for now. I know, these all seem questions I could search in tourist guides, but they usually only tell the good side of things, the beautiful side. I want to know also what are the cons of going there, what should I keep in mind, what is not recommendable and also some knwoledge that maybe would be lost in a commercial tourist guide. I wish you all a great day and week!
  3. This trip had been the works for over two years and has evolved into a 3 week itinerary of driving the Ring Road by campervan. Have I lost you? From Guide to Iceland: Iceland has one main road: Route 1. This ring road goes all around the island and from it are smaller roads and routes that lead you to fjords, towns, peninsulas, the highlands and many other attractions. Iceland has always called to me. It seems magical and wild, so what better way to explore than by camping around the country. I went through several different plans before settling on a campervan but allow me to discuss why I settled on this. Iceland has a glacier lagoon, volcanoes, hot springs, and more waterfalls than you can shake a stick at. That's just barely scratching the surface of what appeals to me. In order to soak up as much as I can, I plan to use the ring road primarily to circumnavigate the country for most of my trip and a couple of days in Reykjavik at the end to unwind and be around people again. There are many car rental agencies and you can bring your own camping supplies as there are multiple campgrounds around the country. However, Iceland has the law of survival which means you can stay anywhere one night if you need to. That said, I'll be able to stay one night anywhere which is very appealing. I will, of course, get permission and use common sense when it comes to choosing a place to sleep. I believe in Leave No Trace and will follow those principles while there. The beauty of a campervan allows me to not worry about the notoriously unpredictable weather and have to deal with a tent. The one I'm renting has a small pump sink and stove so I can cook inside of the weather is truly abysmal. I am getting one with four wheel drive so I can tackle adventure with confidence. I'm going to stock up on cheap groceries when I get there but I'm also going to bring lots of protein bars and dehydrated backpacking meals to keep costs down. I'm going by myself but Iceland is an incredibly safe country. Anything can happen anywhere but their crime statistics are very low. I'm going to bring a couple of notebooks for journaling and doodling, as well as my camera. I know I want to go counterclockwise but other than that, I'm just going to go where the wind takes me since I have no reservations I must go toward. I plan on getting local advice as much as possible and savoring every moment. This is something I've been ruthlessly saving for and I don't want to rush any of it. Typing all of this out makes it feel real. I'm slightly intimidated all of a sudden, haha. Has anyone else gone before? If you have any suggestions let me know!
  4. Hello everyone! My name is Meg. This is my first challenge as a Ranger. I almost didn't do a challenge this time around, but I decided I really do need the emotional support that only my fellow Nerdians can provide. Big changes are coming in the CoderGatherer household. My husband was recently accepted in to a master's degree through the University of Iceland. The semester starts in August. Long story short....we're totally going! While I couldn't be happier for my husband, I am getting a little overwhelmed with all that we have to do to prepare for our year long adventure. For starters we have to obtain residence visas, find a job that will let me work while I live in Iceland, reduce our possessions down to the bare minimum, find a safe home for our hound, and get physically fit enough to survive without a car. Needless to say, overwhelmed. But no matter! I've decided to take a step back and focus on what's important. At this point in time, I'm using my username as a guide. This means getting back in to coding (atleast 1 hour a day), eat atleast one paleo meal a day, and move more (5 bodyweight workouts a week). Working on coding 1 hour a day, +3 INT Eat one paleo meal a day, +3 CON 5 bodyweight workouts, +3 STR (what I feel like when I do push ups) Get all the paperwork together for Iceland, +1 WIS I look forward to meeting you all and cheering you on in this challenge! Good luck on your challenges!
