  1. Going to start my daily log here tomorrow. This post is a place holder.
  2. Hi, I'm a dude looking for like-minded individuals. I like nerdy stuff like video games, movies, comic books, dungeons and dragons, and martial arts. I'm 5'10" and I'm 250 lbs and I'm looking to lose bunch of weight and eventually be around 180ish. I live in Southern California. I am a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I've also done Muay Thai for about five years. I'm not huge on weightlifting, but I want to lift weights more to get toned up and also to improve my performance in Jiu-Jitsu. So yeah, Hi!

First time on here. Looking for some extra motivation. Ive been training martial arts for over 4 years and strength training for longer. I keep falling in and out of motivation to keep it all up. My goal is to lose atleast 5 lbs this month, Move up to the next stage in my current strength training program, and be better about keeping up with my diet all so i can greatly improve my skills as a martial artist. Kind of a simple post but i dont usually do the whole forum thing. I appreciate any and all motivation. Thanks everyone! Diet (pick two) Eat a vegetable with one meal every day Cut out Fast Food Fitness (pick one) Complete the NF bodyweight workout at least 1x a week Level Up Your Life (Pick One). Say one positive thing to yourself each morning when you look in the mirror
  4. Sorry sorry! I know I'm late. Hi! By the way, I'm Jay and I was a rebel for a while. I've been active on and off and I really want to make that more on than off this time around. I have a black belt in Taekwondo, but haven't really done too much in about a decade. I'm a noob (white) belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu although, I've trained on and off for financial reasons since 2009. I've trained in Muay Thai since 2009. Here are my goals: Fitness 1. Go to class three times between Monday - Friday and hit an open mat on the weekend. Simply put, if you don't go to class, you're not gonna get any better. Of course, there are exceptions like sometimes you hit a plateau and you just need to step away for a bit to sort of reset. I'm not at a plateau. So yeah, I plan to go at least three times between Monday - Friday. I think that's doable, I mean I'd like to go 8 times, and hit an open mat, but I don't wanna burn myself out. My gym has classes at 6AM and 6PM Monday - Friday and an open mat from 8AM - 11PM, so the scheduling isn't too bad that I can't maybe get a two-a-day in. I also want to really go to open mats because I learn a lot from the people that go and they're not all from the same gym, so I get an extra bit of education that I might not normally get. Like last week we had Moku Kahawai come in and he's a 5x IBJJF World Champion. I got to roll around with him which was cool. I may substitute the last open mat because I'm attending a Jiu Jitsu seminar on 11/27 which is the Sunday after the challenge ends, but hey, everything's more guideline than rule, right? 2. Eat a stupid salad. I don't eat enough vegetables. I also want to lose some weight. I also want to save money. I figure if I have a salad each day for lunch, I can help out on all three of those. A salad will have vegetables. Although, a pizza salad sounds amazing. That's four slices of pizza in a bowl. I'm gonna eat a real salad with vegetables and some chicken, maybe some nuts. Trader Joe's has some premade ones that I like and they're like 4 bucks each and it kinda fills me up. I know not all salads will help me lose weight, so I'll try to choose a healthier salad just to get my feet wet. Life 1. My house is a mess. I don't want to be considered a messy person. I'm going to work on cleaning one room in the house each day in hopes that overall, the house will be clean and I will rarely have to do a deep clean of the whole house which would probably just end up with me feeling overwhelmed and just giving up. I'll throw a bonus goal in there. I guess it would be a fitness goal. With Thanksgiving being next Thursday, I'm going to challenge myself to not go too crazy on feasting. I do want to end up losing weight as I've ballooned up to 260. A long-term goal would be to get down to around 180-190 and then eventually compete in tournaments, so I have to keep that in mind.
  5. Hey all. I first posted in last challenge but seeing as it already ended and I didn't sign up properly (oops) I figure I better restart here where it's current and I have followed the rules. So I'll put my background info etc in the introductions thread but here's my challenge for the next 6 weeks. Main I want to become a better version I myself taking a 3 prong attack. Mental, physical and spiritual. I want to become a more patient father and husband. Someone who can role with life's little issues and not have anger outbursts over things beyond my control. As they say I can only control my reaction to any given situation. Side Quests 1. Earn another stripe on my belt. I currently take jiujitsu and have earned my first stripe on my white belt awhile ago. I want to earn my next stripe and I think I'm pretty close to doing so. This will help my focus and concentration and i find it helps calm me and the endorphin rush after a hard session is awesome! To accomplish this I will attend 2 classes a wk and compete when I can. I already have a tournament this Saturday. It's my first so I'm a little nervous. 2. Meditate 2-3x a week Pretty much no expanding needed. I feel I need to try this because the few times I have it has made me feel better after. I'll be trying some advice I learned from the Zen Habits blog and just start off with 2-3minutes. If i can do that I'll slowly increase the time. 3. Run 1-2x a week While I'm not a big running fan I think this will help in two main ways. First increase overall fitness and cardio for jits class and also acts as kind of a form of active meditation. The main thing is getting the motivation to get out the door. Once I'm out there and actually running I'm good to go. I would rather try and find trails to run instead of pounding the cement. But I do have an app I'm waiting to try called Zombies, Run! It's like a video game you actively participate in collecting "items" as you run and it randomly has zombie horses chase you so you hafta step it up to outrun them. It uses gsp to track runs so I'll be able to log everything. Life Side Quest 1. Start saving $20-50 per wk in a dedicated account for emergencies or whatever is needed. Motivation I want to become a healthy role model for my kids. Having a dad who is active and can hang with them is important I feel. I want them to be proud of me the same way I am of them. Currently I tend to get upset over small things or things at work beyond my control. This carries over to home sometimes and creates issues at home. And also to become the best version I me for my wife. She deserves that and it will only make us closer I think. It also won't hurt to make her friends jealous right?! That's enough for this monumental post.
