  1. So, while holding office hours .... ... I wrote up the next challenge. Well, here we go again. We’re moving. Again. At least, this time, we are moving to a location that I know well and where we already have friends and family. Yes, Virginia, we’re moving home!! The goals for this challenge are to: Change residences and transport our stuff successfully. This shouldn’t be too hard. We’re packing and have movers lined up to do the heavy lifting … literally. Nudge blood pressure down to less than 120/80 Keep weight within 1% of 150 pounds. Keep MIND score above 8.5 each week Prepare for the Trek Pack and tidy up the old house for sale. This is a little hard to measure. We will succeed at it because we must. We might not get all of the spiffing up done before the end of the challenge (or the house sells …), but we will be moved unless something drastic and unforeseeable happens. Travel 240 miles More cardio!!! The distance between our current house and our new house is about 240 miles. I won’t rack up this distance in the 35 days of the challenge (nearly 7 miles per day, which is a lot for a desk worker but not much compared with the D&D assumption of 30 miles per day), but I’m going to set the distance and get as far as I can get …. picking it back up for the next challenge. That also gives me time to do the pre-journey stuff in both the game world and real world. Since cardio helps decrease my stress and blood pressure, this is a strong success contributor. I’ll be counting the distance on my FitBit … so every step counts. If I bike or row, I’ll add that distance separately. Forage for Health Keep tracking on the MIND diet with my Google sheet. This is going well and is pretty easy to maintain without feeling deprived. Has it helped my blood pressure?? Hard to say, but it is arguably a healthy plan no matter what the measurable results. I am maintaining my current weight, and increasing some strength measures. Keep Growing …. Stronger! Strength training is one area at risk during the move. I’ll maintain my gym membership until the end of May, and I have plenty of basement gym equipment, but I need to set a goal to make sure that it doesn’t fall by the way. Ok, 10 strength sessions of any type. Travel with Friends and Meet Strangers MAYBE, I will be able to write some more story episodes as I go. I do have a party of Strixhaven students (including Khrum!) that will be taking the journey with me. They can help battle foes along the way with their various skills. Misc Tools Tracking spreadsheet Hevy app How to Play D&D By Yourself Uncharted Journeys This seems a little light, but it's going to be a busy 6 weeks, and I don't want to stress out and quit because I got overwhelmed with details.
  2. Hi I've been on a weight loss journey. Down 70lbs in 2 years doing keto and little to no exercise. I started going to the gym in April to help speed up my process. I do light cardio and lots of weightlifting. I love it. My question is, since I've been going to the gym and eating keto I've been feeling really weak and very hangry. The scale isn't moving much even though I'm still eating the same as foods and amounts as before. Is this scale stuck due to gaining muscle? Or do I need to introduce carbs? Is it really just about being a calorie deficit or am I missing something? I still want to lose another 70lbs. Thanks.
  3. And so begins the hero's journey. Starting January 1st, for 60 days I will be participating in the Darebee Hero's Journey fitness program, a role-playing program that presents challenges, opportunities, and threats accompanied by exercises that must be completed in order to continue on the journey. This will serve as a prequel to an even greater challenge, Age of Pandora, an immersive post-apocalyptic fitness quest. In addition, I have set some short-term and long-term goals. Short-Term Goals: * complete Roadwork 30 Day running program * complete a Darebee daily dare every morning (goal: at least 50 in a row), as well as an Epic Five workout * be able to complete 50 push-ups in one go * complete the Hero's Journey followed by Age of Pandora * continue Wim Hof breathing, exercises, and cold showers * continue daily prayer/meditation * post to Nerd Fitness and Darebee regularly (at least three days/week) * work on Duolingo daily Long-Term Goals: * finish Educational Leadership Masters degree * train in a martial art * learn how to properly shoot a gun (possibly concealed carry training) * run a Spartan race and/or a long trail race (at least 25k)
  4. I want to live by the motto "today is the day." Every day I have a struggle, such as a conference where food will be served that is really of an unknown calorie count, I decide I will start over on my journey tomorrow. But I want to remember that today is the day. One meal might not be the best, but that doesn't mean I can't make the next meal better! I want to make the changes I need in my life now. So I want to try to start tracking my meals a bit better, and making more movements in my day (even just regular walks). I want to drink less alcohol. But I also want to maintain a great social life with friends. I need to find balance in that. I will post about my daily struggles and accomplishments here. I'm excited to see the support that the NF world can provide!!
  5. Nascence: (Noun) A coming into being; a beginning. Introduction: I'm back. It's been a while, so allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Richard and I'm a newspaper editor who loves hip hop, board games and hiking. (For my origin, check out my battle log.) I'm a wordy person, so here's your spoiler warning that I tend to ramble quite a bit. I used to go by EternalJourno, but I renamed myself a while back as Rey of Light. Rey is Spanish for king and obviously a play on the word "ray." The idea was to rebrand myself as a being or force of light and positivity, which has been hard to incorporate into my life lately. I've been dealing with depression and anxiety, but I finally started seeing a therapist and psychologist a few months back to get the help I needed. I took a break from the forums and I've been struggling to regain my discipline and willpower. A foot injury slowed me down significantly, so I haven't been exercising, which intensified my depression. And my emotional state has led me to eating a lot of junk food. As a result, I'm practically back to square one. Last year I lost 40 pounds. At this point I'm nearly back to my starting weight (I've gained 30-35 pounds back). I realized that without the accountability of the forums, I've allowed myself to stray too far from my goals. It's time to get back on the right path. My therapist recently said I'm in my own head too much and encouraged me to find something to help me take my mind off things. She mentioned video games, which I moved away from for many years. I figured I'd give it a shot and bought the game Journey for the PS3. I had always been attracted to the art style but didn't really know much about it. It had been recommended as a chill game. My first time playing was (and subsequent plays have been) an incredible, beautiful, emotional experience. I've been obsessed with it for the past week or so, and it has given me inspiration to move forward with my life's journey. The game is designed around the hero's journey, which Steve Kamb is also obsessed with. The game begins with a traveler waking up in the desert and gradually learning about his history and how to use his abilities — a sort of birth or rebirth. Your quest is to reach a mountain in the distance — and along the way you may encounter random companions. Once you've completed your journey, you are taken back to the beginning to start anew. I feel like last year was my first journey. I made a goal of losing 40 pounds and learned many new abilities to help me reach the mountaintop. However, I allowed myself to fall back down, so here I am again wandering in the desert, having lost my scarf and my ability to fly. No longer can I do pushups and pullups with confidence. No longer can I walk long distances without feeling sore and losing my breath. It's time to take baby steps to learn how to redevelop my willpower and discipline. I will once again reach the mountain (and beyond) with the help of the knowledge I gained on my first journey. And I'm back to the forums to connect and reconnect with new and old companions. Main Quest: I strive for the Triforce. I will build Power (physical health/lose weight) via good eating and exercise habits. I will achieve Courage (mental health/self confidence) through therapy and other potential means. I will exercise and cultivate Wisdom (knowledge/art) by devouring books as part of a balanced diet and reinvigorating my love affair with writing. Quest 1: Complete my assigned Bodyweight exercises three times a week and complete a cool down afterward. I update these on my battle log if you want to see details and follow along. A = Complete workout/cool down 3 times a week. B = Complete workout/cool down 2 times a week. C = Complete workout/cool down 1 time a week. D = Complete 0 workouts/cool downs in a week. F = No physical activity. Quest 2: Walk every day with my dog Booklet and complete a cool down afterward. I usually track these with the RunKeeper app on my battle log as well. I'm also tracking my miles on my Walk to Mordor. A = Walk/cool down 6-7 days a week B = Walk/cool down 4-5 days a week. C = Walk/cool down 2-3 day a week. D = Walk/cool down 1 day a week. F = No walking/cool downs. Quest 3: Drink less alcohol (If I do drink, I will stick to low carb cocktails). A = Have no more than 3 drinks per week (add a plus if only low-carb cocktails). B = Have no more than 5 drinks per week (go up a letter grade if only low-carb cocktails). C = Have no more than 7 drinks per week (go up a letter grade if only low-carb cocktails). D = Have no more than 9 drinks per week (go up a letter grade if only low-carb cocktails). F = Anything more than that (go up a letter grade if only low-carb cocktails). Quest 4: Cook paleo meals more often, eat out less. If I do eat out, I will find healthy/paleo-ish options. A = Eat out no more than 2 times a week. B = Eat out no more than 4 times a week. C = Eat out no more than 6 times a week. D = Eat out no more than 8 times a week. F = Eat out more than 8 times a week. Life Quests: Perform "Awesome Hour" every night before bed and learn to better care for my mental/emotional health. This means powering down without screens. I will stretch my foot, meditate, read a book, color and/or write. I will also update my journal with notes about good things from my day and positive things about myself. Motivation: Originally, I wanted to look good in order to build confidence so that I could learn to live life to the fullest, but I realize I've been looking at things backward. The truth is I've put too much focus on my physical attractiveness. I want to find love, but I know I need to love myself first. I need to build self-esteem, take chances and stop holding myself back in order to live life to the fullest.
  6. GREETINGS REBELLION!! I am Wraiven but those whom know me well call me Mitch Jnr. I have been working on leveling up my life and developed my quest log in a way to grow, not only for me but for the benefit of those all over the world. Since I can remember I have always been a very giving person and gathered joy from tasks that not only helped me be a better man, but also to help others grow too. Since my Father (Mitch Snr) passed away started really struggling with depression and anxiety in recent years and it's truly effected my growth and attitude towards what I always believed of myself. It could be chemical or it could just be my mind trying to avoid the pain of failing... But that's not gonna happen! Since joining the Rebellion I decided to dedicate a whole year to trying to change some lives and it's really had an Impact on me too. 17 has always been my favourite number soooo I decided in 2017 I was going to do a Charity Challenge called 'Songs and Smiles' to help raise funds for Kids with Cancer, Mental Illness and Poverty/Famine. This requires me to do a song a day to bring smiles and provoke thought/nostalgia every single day and then people could share and possibly donate if they could. A simple premise but alot of people seem to like it. So far we have raised over $5000 and had 250,000 views on Youtube. My Dad always wanted to help kids with cancer because when he had it he always beleived he had lived and they deserved a chance to aswell, so I am doing this all in his memory and I hope all of the rebellion can join me too and become a SMILE SAVIOUR! 7. Long story short, I'm going to let y'all decide my comfort zone breakers. What do you think would be just crazy for me to do? Keep in mind, I'm basically a normal fat guy. See my character description (in my signature) for a fuller description. Go nuts with your suggestions, and I'll add them to the list as I see them. It's even better if it's an invite to join you, or if you're inviting yourself to join me (and forcing me to do it). Quests: [Item to do] (User who suggested) [O means To Do, X means done] Go to Camp Nerd Fitness (neomattlac) [X] I did it and it was awesome. I regret not opening myself up to others more often, except twice when I just happened to slip. Sign up for a class of something you're interested in; dance, parkour, or martial arts. (Elastigirl) [O] You and me: saying five positive things about ourselves per day. These can be five things we're proud of accomplishing or things we like about ourselves. It's not quite a quest, more like a daily goal. (StarRuby) [O] Also, for a quest: go spelunking. Get the little head lamps and some clothes and crawl around in a cave! It's like nature with a little danger and adventure. (StarRuby) [O] Practice Salsa from YouTube videos. Practice for 30 minutes (minimum) a day for 1 week. (Evicious) [O] Go work out, outdoors, shirtless. (Wear sunblock please.) 3 times per month, until the monthly mean daytime temp drops below 65 degrees. (When winter comes, you're off the hook.) (RainCloak) [O] Talk to a stranger once every day for a week. This can just be the cashier at the grocery store or a colleague at work you usually don't talk to. (Akura) [O] Attend a community event weekly. You don't have to agree with them or contribute. Just show up and see what's happening. From presidential debates to high school sports to "save the Main Street oak tree". (Mike_d85) [O] Give up alcohol for a month (or 4 weeks challange). (NemoG) [X] (Oct/Nov 2016) Wasn't really a change. I rarely drink, plus I'm trying to lose weight, so it's less of an issue.
  8. Journey! My favourite video game! And in fact the only one I play anymore. Because PRETTY. So yeah, not going to bother working it into my challenge as a theme too hard, but hey, I'm always on a journey so why not And YAY PRETTY: So this journey is about taking care of myself and not letting various obstacles and life in general get me down. It is about taking time to do things I enjoy and giving myself whatever space/time/peace I need to be OK. This will be hard because I also feel like I should be working as much as possible while I still can, but sanity needs to come first. Imploding is not desirable. More prettiness: So I am not totally sure how I am going to handle this, but I think friends and family will be key. Asking for help and all that. And without further ado, here is my challenge: Fitness: Walking: 1x per week Neck Rehab: physio workout 2-3x per week 2 hours standing per work day: and don't sit continuously for more than an hour Diet: Paleo-ish: No bread, limited rice and occasional oats. Eat less chocolate dammit. Life Stuff: Bedtime: in bed by 10:30, lights out by 11:30. & 7:30am alarm, max 1 snooze. Meditation: (continue with 100 day challenge ie 1-2x per day) Art: life drawing each monday. Hang out with friends/ ask for help/advice/hugs as needed. Socialise at least 2x per week.
  9. I am on my fourth lifetime since High School. From the "He didn't know any better" to the "College in a new land" to the "Might as well join the military" and finally in the "Adulting is weird, and everything is different, and I've become complacent." The current journey has me lost. I cannot pin down why I am going, and indeed I am going no where. Fitness is definitely a key contributor to my happiness over the years, and I can honestly not remember the last time i was this inept physically. I was already on a low road before I broke my tibia and fibula at the ankle. After 8 pieces of metal and now almost a year of recuperating, I am basically 50 physically instead of 31(not meant to insult any of you more developed nerds out there.) I have a ton of experience with fitness, but kind of overloaded myself with options and ideas. So I found the nerd fitness academy after buying Level Up Your Life, and a simple straightforward workout plan is what I needed. I will track workouts, weight, and general eating here and see how it goes, and hopefully future ruts and bumps won't pull me off my trusty chocobo this time.
  10. Hello, i'm not new to NF per se, since i've been on my journey for four weeks now, but I recently fell off the wagon with school starting back up and falling back into my old ways. Mostly the latter has caused the falling off. So I thought I will start again...a restart. I won't to complete something in my life for once, and really feel proud and not care what is thought of me or who knows. That's why i'm here. to find my support and accountability and be the same to fellow rebels. I tried the facebook group, both the lbgtqiaa/male...didn't go to well. So ill try my hand with the forums and journaling. It's a please to meet everyone.
  11. Good morning all! I made it here - I have decided to be strong and to commit for once and for all. So here I am. Hi, I'm Veeee! I turned 30 earlier this year, and realised that, for the last 20 years, I was not happy with my body. I had numerous attempts at keeping fit and eating the right things (I'm a pescetarian, carbs have been my best comfort friends for as long as I can remember). I started running two years ago, and completed a 10k in April (12-year-old me still doesn't understand how). However, my body was still chubby and running got a little bit difficult so I trained with a PT for six weeks; the programme ended two weeks ago. I lost 8 pounds. It was an eye opening experience, the PT definitely helped me seeing my strengths among the weaknesses! We worked on bodyweight and strength exercises, I love kettlebells, barbells and dumbells (less happy with squats and planks!); but the diet aspect of the training was the most difficult for me. Not being able to eat rice, quinoa, lentils, pulses or sweet potatoes, which were staples of my day to day life, was a bit of a nightmare. I eat a bit of eggs, salmon, tuna and cod but it's becoming a bit boring haha. I quit sugar but had a relapse over the weekend, and now I need to get back on track! I can't really afford another six weeks financially, so I figured I could continue on my own - This is where Nerd Fitness enters the game! Very inspiring to read articles about workouts at home and how to navigate a healthy life! So now I'm ready; ready for the quests, the workouts, the "you can do this!", the changes in my food diary. Bring it on! (a bit of numbers: Im 5'1, current weight: 10st 39lbs, body fat %: 44.) Nice meeting you all, any questions let me know! edit because I forgot: my plan exercise wise is to mix running, yoga and strength exercises during the week.
  12. "It is time to stop lurking" - Tippeh, 6/9/16 at 9:53pm Well okay I said that a few times before but this time, I mean it I'm tired of being tired. I'm tired of recording my "progress" on scraps of paper I end up losing anyways. I'm tired of starting over multiple times and being just as confused as before. I used to do full body HIIT workouts mainly doing calisthenics 2-3 times a week during the start of my college years and I remember just how AMAZING I felt and looked everyday. Then family issues, changing majors, not eating enough, and life happened. Therefore I fell of that luxurious wagon. So it is time! In fact what really helps is that my fiancee will be gone for most of the week for the next 2 months on business so that leaves less temptation for me to eat out/grab fast food with her. Therefore I'm hoping to establish a pretty solid habit of eating clean and working out regularly before I start my last semester of school this fall (will still miss you hunny!) Long-term Goals: To bulid a habit of working out 3 times a week (minimum) To eliminate processed foods out of my overall diet and instead fuel myself with wholesome foods To feel more energized and full of life for every waking moment To be stronger, especially in my upper body and hamstrings To someday be able to squat double my bodyweight To someday be able to do 10 pullups with relative ease Lastly when I succeed at the above, I know I will look much more lean, "toned", and strong. So my last goal is to look aesthetically awesome! Like Wonder Woman awesome! Short-term Goals (now until Sept. 1): Go to the gym 4-6 times a week Lower body twice a week Upper body twice a week HIIT 1-2 times a week Have 3 meals and 2-3 snacks everyday. No counting calories, just going to listen to my body when its hungry and when its satisfied Rotate between chicken, beef, pork, and fish for variety For example have chicken every other lunch and pork chops on the alternate days, etc. 1-2 servings of veggies per meal (whatever is in my fridge) 1 serving fruit per meal Fruits and nuts for snacks Be able to squat 100 pounds comfortably (hopefully more but we'll see!) Be able to 2 pull ups Be able to do 20 pushups in 1 minute Get a part time summer job (hopefully Rita's will call me in the next few days)! Wow it is cool seeing my goals written out so neatly. In a way, I hope it's not too much, too soon for me but I have a feeling it'll be okay. I'm definitely open to your guys' thoughts and tips though. Otherwise, creep away
  13. Huh. So here's how the story goes: My work did a "weight loss challenge" that I was curious about, but not really interested ("I don't go to the gym" I said, and I have family members with previous eating/weight loss disorders, so I don't diet either). Well, a team needed a 5th, so I decided why not and dropped the deposit money for it. I wasn't really worried about my weight, mind, and it's one of those gimmicks where the team that loses the most wins $10K, which I also wasn't going to win, but if it helps other people out, that really is the large motivator for me. This meant getting an "official weigh-in" at a gym, which is right next door to work (see: giant gaggle of people wandering in for this). Oh, we get a free personal training session for this, 'eh? Ok, sure. Oh, you have a starter package for $99 for 3 sessions? Why not. Oh, my trainer's actually pretty cool and just showed me how to deadlift? And well, if I'm going to make the attempt, maybe I should look into actually doing challenges on NerdFitness as opposed to just reading blog posts... Uh oh. So, I lost about 10lb during the 3 month challenge window (yeah, really didn't get that $10K), but at that point I'd gotten the full package personal training sessions, was learning to eat WAY better (whut up, nutrition macros?), feeling better, and here's the kicker: I'd been on a self imposed 10lb weight restriction for 4 years prior - pushing, pulling, lifting, any of these things resulted in a hydradenitis flare up, and I was tired of having surgery. And tired or not being able to do anything. And tired of being tired. So the last 10 pounds aren't surprising I suppose, but part of the weight loss challenge was that if you kept off 10% of your original weight, you'd get your deposit back. I just checked and I'm at 14%, so woot Also, 155lb deadlift, and arm exercises that once triggered flare ups aren't anymore, because I've learned how to use the muscle sets and which ones to avoid
  14. Hey guys, So I have had quite a journey up to this point, although I am stuck treading water in an eddy and feel like I am bobbing underwater too often. I have tried to get back into shape since a broken ankle/leg last year and it has been several years of struggling with fitness. I used to be a decent athlete, and all the injuries have piled up and slowed me down considerably. I just picked up 'Level Up Your Life' and so far it has connected with me pretty significantly. I have a lot of things that I need to get organized, and things that I need to change to get back to a better me. I am very close to signing up for the Academy, but this newfound anxiety is affecting me with that decision as well. I have about a million other things to say, but I really just need to try and get that first step back in and put work towards the mounting list of goals that I have been ignoring.
  15. Welcome to my Battle Log! I'm here to kick some tail, bust down brick walls, forge new paths, and take the enemy down! Join with me! I welcome hi-fives, advice, and "go get 'em"'s! Stats: Name: LyricalSharon Height: 5'1 3/4" Weight: Don't know for sure but it's somewhere around 150 lbs...will update soon! Other Stats: Erm.... lemme dig out my measuring tape here... will update! Picture: Yeah I just ate. Talk to me tomorrow morning. Main Quest: Fit in size 4 jeans by Nov 27 2015 (Current size: 10/11-ish) Three Goals: 1) Take dog for a walk 5 days a week 2) Do Angry Birds Workout on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 3) Have a glass of water with every cup of coffee I drink Truth be told, I have a bit of a battle plan beyond these three goals. These three are great steps to train me for bigger baddies - the biggest baddie of course is fitting into those size 4's, which I don't think I've been in since I was.... well, nevermind. Imma take it down! But here's the upcoming battle plan: Quest to get me on the path to kicking the Main Quest's behind: Complete the April 2014 Sun Run! (10k) How will I accomplish this quest, you ask? Let me tell you: 1) From now until January 19, complete the first 3 goals outlined above. 2) Before January 19, invest in some decent running shoes. 3) Starting January 19, embark on the 13 week beginner's running program (designed specifically to train couch potatoes to run 10k by the end.) Sounds complicated, but I've done the running program before, and it's a great way to get in shape. It is based on walk/run interval training. I just can't do it at the moment because I don't have proper running shoes, and well, it's Christmas time. Between travel and presents, it's a financial no-can-do. (Excuses excuses, I know. Maybe I'll put it on my Christmas wish-list.) So instead, I'll get my butt in gear and walk and strength train - because I CAN do that! Also, the Angry Birds workout is tiered enough that I can keep on it for a while and still be challenged. There's nothing like working out and feeling bored - something that drives me cray-cray! (Yeah I went there). Ok fellow Rebels! Let's dooooo iiitt!!!!!!!
  16. Hi, this is my first time on the boards and I'm excited to meet like minded, motivating and positive new peeps. I started my fitness quest after I realized that if I didn't change my ways, my parents were going to have to bury me. I was an uncontrolled diabetic [A1c = 9.2], on insulin and about 3 other meds, using a c-pap at night because my weight was crushing me and cutting off my breathing. I would be so winded after 1 salsa dance that my legs would give out. I was 5'6" and ~252 lbs [114.3 kg]. I am currently going to a supervised diet plan that encompasses not just weight loss but they have behaviorist, exercise physiologist, as well as medical doctors to help you adjust your plan. I've also changed my diet to paleo and am loving it. I never realized that I was allergic to SOY and legumes. As soon as I cut them out of my diet - my skin cleared up and I lost ~7 inches off my abdomen. I reached my weight goal of 165 lbs [74.8 kg]. my A1c = 5, which means I'm totally off all of my insulin and only on 1 tablet of medication [my vitamins now out number my medications] But now I feel the "hard part" begins -- meal planning, budgeting, and coming to terms with my new body. Sometimes I feel like a baby giraffe -- gawky and awkward. My goal is to be able to dance all night. I love to dance salsa and am learning West Coast Swing. There are many workshops were you take classes all day and then open dancing from 9 pm to 4 am. I'd like to be able to do that. So, I think endurance strength training (with bodyweight) and vinyansa yoga intrigues me. I'm also considering taking a kinesiology class(es) about movement in general and nutrition to bulk up my mental muscles too. I'd also like to participate in the next challenge but not sure what guild to choose, any suggestions? Thanks for listening/reading.
  17. Good day and welcome! I'm Andrea, science nerd at heart (astrophysics, as you probably read) and I'm on a journey to getting into real good shape! The cliché says theoretical scientists are not at all sporty or active and I'm here to disprove that! Using the scientific method! And bringing out a paper on it! Kidding. I'm just gonna work out and kick some ass. My ultimate goal is to be in damn good shape by the time I graduate (June 2015). I'm currently 138 lbs, 5"2. It's on the edge of ''official overweight'', when relying on BMI, but we all know that's a bit biased, as I work out 4-5 times a week (sometimes more, depending on whether I feel like it) and I'm on a paleo-inspired diet. I still eat dairy for example, but only from goats and sheep as I can't tolerate cow milk D: (I love mozzarella though, damn shame). I have a few minor conditions that make my progress slower, but I'm not going to let those keep me from reaching my goal. To sum them up: hypoglycemia, hypotension, hypothyroidism. You see, everything is 'hypo', except for my weight I slowly try to lose weight, but even a 1200 kcal diet (+ low-carb, high protein) and 4 days of exercise doesn't make me lose any weight, so I might see a doctor for my thyroid again, as this deeply frustrates me. I just want to lose betwee, 7-12 lbs (of fat, I'd love some nice, big round glutes), is that really too much to ask? Anyway, here I'll post what I ate/did daily and how I felt! If you have tips and tricks or know how to handle hypothyroidism, don't hesitate to post it here!! Astronomical kisses PS: Don't forget to kick ass today!
  18. So, since last October (2013) I've been placing health, fitness and well-being as my number one priority after being obese for my 23 years of existence, and suffering from asthma. After a couple or so of half-assed attempts I believed that NF would be the game changer I'd need. The mentality which guided me the vision came from one of Kamb's post (after seeing the awesome Transformer Joe!) "We are complex pieces of machinery". As a tech/product/pc enthusiast, that really stuck with me. "I like getting the most out of my hardware and things, why don't I ever see myself in the same way?" Self-esteem grew and I made sure to take every step I could to go from v1.0 to v2.0... And thus, I embarked on epic quest, reported to you all at halfway checkpoint, and now, I'm finally proud to tell you, with the help and knowledge of rebellion + Kamb's blog, the day has finally come and I have shredded every single of those 90lbs that I needed to burn in order to reach 175lbs a.k.a neutral BMI zone!!! (v2.0 has gone gold!) Finally reaching the green zone! (and I'm not talking about Matt Damon, so stop drooling! xD) I now present to you: Upgrade from v1.0 to v2.0 Stats:Starting Body-weight v1.0: 265lbs (03/OCT/2013)Days to break past 25% completion: 94 days Days to break past 50% completion: 150 days Days to break past 75% completion: 290 days Days to Reach 100% Neutrality v2.0 (Morbid obesity to neutral BMI): 381 Days, or32,918,400 seconds 548,640 minutes 9144 hours 54 weeks (rounded down)Current Body-weight: 174.6lbs, Body-fat%: 18.4% Muscle%: 40.8% (19/OCT/2014)Total Weight Lost: 90.4lbsNumber of 6 week Challenges Completed: 7Total number of food relapses (excluding Sunday Fundays): 1 (During December 2013)Biggest weight loss in a week: 4.4lbs (06/APR/2014)Biggest weight gain in a week: 2.0lbs (27/APR/2014)Biggest amount weight lost in 4 weeks: 10.7lbs (First month)Lowest amount weight lost in 4 weeks: 3.0lbs (Throughout August 2014)Asthma rate during Oct 2013: 3 attacks, blue inhaler used 6 times during the first day (steadily improved during 1st month, became progressively worse during months 2, 3 and 4 in winter, especially during night-time and workouts/jogging)Asthma rate during Oct 2014: No attacks have occurred, no inhalers used.Exercise ability during Oct 2013: Zero (I use to get breathless and/or asthma attacks just going up 2 flights of stairs!)Exercise ability during Oct 2014: 23x push-ups in a row, 9x chin-ups in a row, 1x pull-up, 5min planks, 20min interval jogging (and still no asthma attacks! :-D)Amount of Meat-Free (quorn a.k.a. MUSHROOM FUNGUS! :-o) consumed: 0v3r 9000!!!!1Amount of intermittent fasts/types completed: Too many to count, man... General upgrades throughout the process:+ Controlled Asthma conditions (from healthier eating/controlled breathing through exercising)+ Increased Confidence (from general appearance)+ Better Well-being (more proactive, less reactive)+ More Knowledgeable (Learning via members of the rebellion + Steve's blog + primary/experimental/flexible approach)+ Improved Physical ability (from exercising and upping the ante via PLP/HIIT/Moves when able/complacent/ready)+ Discipline (from Intermittent Fastings) So all I say to you is, let's ascend the tower, as see what can learn. I was told 5 years ago that I wouldn't be able to cure my asthma from my doctor. So far speaking, he was right. However, IF I ACTUALLY lead a healthy lifestyle, I find that it's completely in control and it doesn't get in the way of my quality of life, so please, if you're asthmatic or suffer of anything that may have a link to unhealthy eating/obesity, just go for it and see where it takes you, you're bound find many things worthy of note. Thank you all, NF was just what I needed in order to slay the ogre that I thought I could never beat. NF has changed me in every way and for the better + allowed me to conquer this goal despite many of the constraints I had going forward ('mostly' vegetarian, no gym membership, finance, etc). It was worth every single thing I had to endure to get here. I ain't going nowhere atm, but I have a few ideas as I journey myself towards v3.0... Already seeking the next challenge...- I plan to weigh myself weekly, but only document my weigh-ins at the end of every version upgrade (4 weeks). If it's neutral, I continue onwards. If it isn't, I'll take better measures to ensure the next update will be closer towards the green. More focus will be placed over body-fat% and muscle% than total body-weight.- Getting stronger via body-weight workouts and runs. Hopefully, my body-shape and appearance will improve in time...- Placing focus on slaying other beasts!- Perhaps moving from adventurer class to assassin one day... The way I see it, my 'Bodyware & OS' had an incredibly inefficient architecture, an oversized case, an old shoddy operating system, lacking with updates, ridden with malware, and in desperate need of defragmentation and system restore in order to adapt and survive to the ever changing world. I am now a fully operating, working entry-level pc! But this pc dreams of pushing competitive performance and power, and will be (literally) crunching its way to release v3.0 eta Oct 2015! Thanks for reading, see you around, and remember: "Whatever you find worthwhile in life is worth fighting for" Ryu ;-)
  19. Good day, all! I'm Kara. I've been following the fitness emails for a lil' while. I joined out of sheer enthusiasm at the general awesomeness in making exercise pop-culture. But life circumstances have shot me in leg(knee! *runs*) a few too many times now. So Here I am! Online forums are social jump for me, but I'll do my best. I'm hoping that by becoming as active as possible on here, and I can perhaps find people who can offer advice, motivation and encouragement. In time I'll definitely want to return that energy, this seems to be a very honest and caring community. This isn't going to be my first journey for physical health And I do apologize for the lengthy post! For me, this is the beginning to an old tale. My fitness journey (I've tried to keep it brief)~ 2009-2010 I began exercising age 15. The parentals bought a Wii-Fit, and I began to take it very seriously. Struggling with self-esteem and being rather overweight, my 5 minute jog-on-the-spot was exhausting to begin with. In one year (exactly), I lost about 10kg. 2010-2011 ...and then I plateaued. But I was able to run 2km easily, ride my bike to school and back (a 20km round trip) and was getting pretty darn fit. 2011-2012 Parents got me the best thing ever - a gym membership. By mid 2012 I was lifting 40kg on the benchpress no problem. I'd picked up Gymnastics and Crossfit (on top of farm work and Fencing) I was flatlining at 58kg, but it was ok. I was tank. All of this combined led to severely straining my knees. I learned a valuable lesson about over-training. I had to stop everything. 2012- 2013 I moved away from home to study, and suddenly had no time or funds (I LOVE gyms) to regularly exercise. I couldn't run or jog because my knees, despite endless physio, would protest painfully. Ended up diagnosed PTSD and the whole mental illness shabang mid 2013 and lost motivation. Throughout all that I lost fitness but didn't gain any serious weight. 2013-2014 Things were really looking up! But~ I've now recently been diagnosed with a prolactinoma (a benign brain tumour which releases the prolactin hormone), I've suddenly flown up 10kg. The medication to treat this, called Dostinex, has had a field day with side effects. I'm lethargic, dizzy, unable to focus and continuing to gain weight. I eat healthy enough, and walk most days on top of Gymming whenever I am able to. (2x a week minimum at the mo) I'm third year at University and struggling just a bit to keep up. My Current Stats: Height: 167cm Weight: 69kg Fitness Level: Average Pushup Level: 10 on-toes Knee Capability: Soft jog-walk over half an hour. Energy: Critically Low Goals (date TBC): Height: -same, tehe- Weight: 58kgs Fitness Level: Tank Pushup Level: 35 (my old limit) Knee Capability: Jog-sprint-walk over half an hour. Energy: Medium - High. Did a lookup on the Guilds. I think I fall into the Warrior/ Assassin group. I love weight training and would love to be able to get back into Gymnastics again. You might say I feel a bit like good ole' Link. Went forward 7 years, got all tank.. went back. Not so tank. I'm sure some folks have seen the awesomely inappropriate animations going in depth about this. (Youtube, go!) If you made it this far, thankyou so much for taking the time to read. I really look forward to being a part of this community!
  20. By making bad choices, dealing with depression, and having the dramatic artistic personality, has rested on me re-committing to a weight loss journey with 110 pounds to go. One week in, I have lost five pounds. I am adopting a semi_ -strict paleo diet (cutting sugars, grains, and dairy) and exercising 3-4 days a week. I am a bit overwhelmed at the prospect of losing 105 more pounds. It's daunting. I'm trying to focus on my short term goal: lose 25 pounds by 2/16. I know my body, and I tend to drop weight very quickly in the beginning. This is, with hard work, a very feasible goal. Any advice? I could really use it!
  21. So this is my first serious attempt at losing weight and getting healthy. I'm hoping that this 6 week challenge will kick start my new healthy life style. I'm 27 years old, 5'8", and weigh 225 lbs. My life time goal is to get the weight off and keep it off, because I have a lot of physical pain that I've had since I was 14 and living without pain is something I'd like to feel again! I plan on changing my diet and becoming more active through things like: tennis, strengthening workouts, paintball, walking, running, hiking, and archery. I also think it would be really fun to be able to wear my puppy out (he's a miniature pinscher :>).
  22. Hi! I'm new and have been lurking for a couple weeks. I wasn't sure if I was ready until I tried on my cosplay outfit for comic-con and realized that even though it had only been purchased a month prior, it no longer fit. I have always struggled with my weight. Sometimes I feel like I'm winning the battle, but most of the time I give up after not seeing progress fast enough or falling of the wagon. This time is different. I am no longer thinking of this as a temporary struggle before I can get back to my cupcakes. This is a life change and failure is not an option. My inspiration is below. I look to my favorite video game gals for support and now I look to Nerd Fitness too! I'm so excited to be here and thank you for reading!
  23. Khawar

    Here we go!

Hello my name is khawar and im new to all this but SUPER excited! my goals are for this challenge are: 1) Gym at least 3 times a week The number three may seem like a small number, but i know that i can most likely stick to this and perhaps i might even go more, but im all about small tasks at the moment and consistency. When i do go, the workouts will be intense and fun and will look to challenge and improve after each workout 2) No more soda pops Yes, this is the biggie, my weakness. I love those sugary drinks, but going to replace with loads of water and green tea. Plus with the summer approaching, not likely in the UK but we can hope, water will be best form of hydration. 3) Juicing more often I suffer from excema and asthma, but i have juiced and made the green juice, and it has helped. Plus its good studies to support weight loss, inspired by the movie, fat sick and nearly dead and fitlifetv on youtube. 4) At least 3 full music tracks I love music and rapping and singing, so im going to put my lyrics onto instrumentals and get ready to release my mixtape during the end of the year, but i need to start so i will hopefully start by the first three tracks. There you go, love this site and this community, got loads of artices still to read, and i leave you with my favouite quote, " The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be" Ralph Waldo Emerson
  24. Oh hey, Nerd Fitness. I'm Shelby, and this is my first post. Do people introduce themselves on these things? Idunno... Okay, I will. Well, I'm 5'10, 180 pounds (as of today) and I'm somewhat athletic. I play volleyball and I swim, I love sports but I'm horrible at them. I play them anyways. I'm pretty much a nerd. 4.65 GPA in the hizzy. Headed to college next year (eeeeppp!) and ready to make some lifelong healthy habits for myself. I'm a Christian, and I'm not trying to make anyone else become a Christian... But this is my thread so I'll write what I want God speaks against unhealthy living in the Bible (Proverbs 23:20, Philippians 3:19, etc.) because my body is a Temple. Not a trashcan. So, this has become one of my paradigms. My body is His, not mine, so I aim to respect it. Steve tells us to come up with some goals, so here are some goals I'm setting for myself! Diet Goals: Paleo all the way bruhtha. Exercise Goals: Lift 3 times a weekRun a mile on off days (Except for Sunday.) Non-fitness-or-health-related Goals: Read the Bible every day Lots of stuff. Yeah, it's sort of intimidating, but the only thing scarier than changing is always staying the same. "If your goals don't scare you, they are not big enough." -Ellen Johnson Sirleaf So yeah! Starting tomorrow (and I mean it this time... you have no idea how tired I am of telling myself that) and every day after that, I will work to be better than I was the day before. Comment, post, blah, blah, blah. I'd love to hear from my fellow Rebels :] Later guys!
  25. These are the goals for my first six week challenge. 1. For my first goal I want to be able to do a muscle-up by the end of the six week challenge. I will preform a test at the end of it and post my results. Right now I cannot do more then 10 pull-ups. + 5 STR 2. For my second goal I want to be able to do a handstand-pushup by the end of the six week challenge. I will also preform a test and post my results. Right now I cannot do a handstand. +5 STR 3. For my third goal, every morning I want to preform the Yang Style Qigong Primary Set. + 5 DEX 4. For my fourth goal I want to meditate every morning and evening for 10 minutes.I don’t meditate at all but I think I can do this one. +5 WIS Well this is my first challenge but I really want to win it, so I wish you all luck! "The best athlete wants his opponent at his best. The best general enters the mind of his enemy. The best businessman serves the communal good. The best leader follows the will of the people. All of the embody the virtue of non-competition. Not that they don't love to compete, but they do it in the spirit of play. In this they are like children and in harmony with the Tao."
