  1. Mozzies aren't on Lockdown Yes, I know, they are insects and don't know better. Just like the monkeys in our back garden, they are wild animals and don't know about lock down. Just like some petty thieves in the area - they don't understand (or adhering to) lock down. I'm not going to say much about Corona. I think all has been said, that could have been said by now. I'm trying to find the lighter side of the situation. So I'm sitting on my stoep, enjoying sundown with a steaming cup of coffee, minding my own business, and this reckless, arrogant mosquito zooms around my head! The gal of it! Doesn't he know about lock down? A couple slaps later I realised that I have instigated a rebellion, because a horde of mozzies joined their first comrade, and were having a feast. Me. I realised then it was time for Ms ElvinFoxRyder to come out of retirement (or an impromptu holiday of sorts) again, to face these mozzies down! There is always something to be thankful for! ----------00---------- Here are the ways I'm going to try to outmaneuver the squadrons moving in. Move! Don't be an easy target. BW exercises two maybe three times a week. Walking (inside our property), OR Mowing the lawn. Cleaning: Don't leave them any space to lay eggs in any watery areas. Clean the house, clean out any watery depths (even as shallow as the dogs' water bowls), laundry... you get the gist. All together five days a week. Sleep: Keep up the energy levels to continue the good fight. Go to bed between 21h30-21h45. Weightloss: Make a smaller target, less sweet blood. Not so appetizing. Weigh and measure on a Monday. I've already lost 10kg+ since November. Trying to reach under 90kg this challenge! 👀 Count the Gifts: Stay positive! I'm literally taking a (calendar) page out of the book A Thousand Gifts, and trying to find 3 things they ask for every day. Since the world-wide Corona lock down has brought our emigration plans to a halt (temporarily), I need to find and stay positive with the situation. Not just point out the negative that happen. So nevermind the mozzies, nevermind the criminals, nevermind the government, I'll try to find three things every day to rejoice in, or be thankful for, or just notice. To be continued...

  4. Hi everyone, I'm a mom from South Africa who really needs to get out and get fit again. Used to be fit, strong and do a lot of hiking, but just lost the plot the last couple of years. I have tried to stay active by doing things like mowing the lawn (we have a huge garden), but sinus and allergies became too much last year, trying to stay up (running, jumping, walking) with my two boys (5yrs and 8yrs) but laziness and just general lost of oemph because of too much work in front of computer, in house, name it... made me tired and feeling old! So excuses in the past, I started a new exercise routine and last week did my first full week of training. Goals: 1. Loose weight (+- 10kg by end of April 2015) * Drink more water, less coffee (*sigh*); * Exercise 3-5 days a week, preferably 5 days; * Follow Paleo eating plan more strictly; * Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. 2. Become stronger through exercise (comfortably lift and swing boys around! +-30kg each) 3. Be fit enough and take part in an obstacle race (start with very short race mid-year, and 2km race later on) I don't have any new "Life Goals" as we started home schooling three years ago, and I started importing books to sell here in South Africa about a year and half ago, and I'm my husband's secretary, and those are almost full-time jobs by themselves. So just want to be able to get everything done. Nothing new! So that is about it. Thanks in advance for listening and all the support. Elize
  5. Main Quest: To run a marathon before August 2014 when I turn 30. Without injuries.Goal 1: Run at Cross Country Practice 6x / week This year, I'm starting as the Girls' Cross Country coach at the high school where I teach. One implication of this is that I get paid to run with my team 6 times a week. And we run fast, yo. And long. And practice good technique. XC practice, therefore, will be building my endurance, speed, and technique. A base, if you will, for the marathon training after the season. Goal 2: Loose 12 pounds. Eventually, I'd like to loose 20 lbs, going from 165 to 145 before the very long training runs so that I can run them without injury. (And also, let's be honest, so that I can look good.) To this end, I am on a diet: 1500 calories per day. Maintenance for me is 2500 kcals/day. Therefore, a deficit of 1000 kcals/day should lead to a loss of 2 lbs / week. I will adjust this as needed to balance results with not being super neurotic. I'm wording this in terms of a weight-loss goal to motivate me when I start thinking, "Why can't I eat those cookies again? They smell so tasty." However, I will evaluate my success based on the aspect of it that I can control: "Did I make my calorie goal today?" Goal 3: Menu plan with new recipes Obviously, this calorie goal will be easier to achieve if I plan a menu for the week and cook my own food. Plus it's cheaper...see below. To this end, I will plan a menu each week that includes tasty and nutritious meals and snacks for myself. Life Quest: Save Money So...I get a paycheck every month of the year except August. And I didn't budget correctly for this fact. So now, I need to save money and make it to September 1st. My goals for my budget in August include: $40 / week for gas$60 / week for groceries, coffee, and incidentalsNot eating out, like, everDefer student loan payment and charitable giving until September Motivation: To look f*ing sexy and run f*ing fast. Fellow nerds, this challenge has ended up with less nerd and more fitness. I hope you'll forgive me this time. What do you think? Do my goals lead up to running a marathon in the spring? Am I being realistic, too ambitious, or too soft? Do you have experience with running or with loosing weight? You are all awesome individuals, and I welcome advice. See you out there!!
  6. Hi guys! I may be new, but I am determined!! I really need this for myself, and I am finally ready to make it happen. My main goal is to lose weight and fit into pants that are not double digits (less than a 10.) My goals are: Complete a workout 3 times a week (beginner body weight, 20 minute hotel room, etc.) Walk my dog 5-6 days a week for at least 30 minutes. Eat sugary "desert foods" at most once a week. My life goal is to save my money and buy new tires for my car. I currently weigh 232 pounds, I wear a size 18 pant, and a size XL shirt. This WILL change!!
