  1. Organized on the NF Australia Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AussieRebelsUnite/ By popular demand we'll be having a meetup in Sydney on Wednesday May 9th 2018 from 7pm. We'll be doing an Escape Room at the Cipher Room! https://www.cipherroom.com.au/ This is the number 1 Escape Room venue in Sydney according to Trip Adviser and was highly rated by one the NF Rebels in the know. The room game starts at 7:15pm so we'll meet there at 7pm, the site says we get a max 1 hour in the room, obviously being brainy folks we'll probably solve it in 10 mins!! The cost is $39 per person. Everyone is welcome, hope to see you there.
  2. Hey everyone! I would love to start up a semi frequent meetup in my area. But before I do, I was hoping to get some feedback from the community. So I thought I would start a general thread to start a conversation about ideas for hosting a meet-up. (Sorry if there is already a thread for this, but if there was it doesn't look like it was posted recently) What exciting/cool/fun things would make for your ideal Nerd Fitness Meet-up? (No drugs allowed) For those that have hosted a meet-up before, what did you do? For those that would want to go to a meetup, what would you want to do? Ultimately, my goals are something along these lines: Ultimately I would like an event that everyone is excited to go to. I would like to keep it free to everyone, though I don't think people generally mind paying 10-15 bucks if it is a fun thing to do. (I would be ok even floating some of the cost, but only so much) Family friendly is a bonus People of all fitness levels should be able to attend and participate, or if not it needs to be clearly communicated Probably keep it to a couple of hours unless it is a multi part event (like a hike followed by lunch where they can come to one or both things) Here are a few of my activity ideas which could be mixed and matched, preferably mixing a fitness activity with a non-fitness activity: Fitness Meet at park or trail for a hike. Group class (coordinate an instructor or all hit up a class that is open to all) Local brewery does an ":Ales and Asanas" yoga event on Sundays, probably more events like this Sync up with a local "fitness" day (community has health fairs with free classes and activities a few times a year) Ropes course Super Hero Dance off Non Fitness Dinner and/or drinks Game night (bars, coffee shops, and breweries do these often) Meet at an arcade Cooking class Geocaching outing Laser Tag Also, it would be cool to also have some sort of contest/game/scavenger hunt with some NF swag of some sort or books or memberships to give out (because people love free things). Not sure what group size to expect. I know there are 5 or so rebels in my area that are active in some sort of NF program and more that are at least followers of the blog. I'm also about an hour away from bigger cities with more people. If it is planned ahead, I would also hope to get some people from surrounding areas to drive in. If you have any feedback, please chime in!
  3. Detroit-area NerdFitness Members (or NerdFitness Members who will be in the Detroit Area on 12/31), I'd like to propose an area meetup/workout: 48th Annual Belle Isle New Year's Eve Family Fun Run/Walk The longest continuously-held running event in Michigan http://www.belleislefunrun.com/ This event is open to both runners and walkers. Registration Options: 3:30 pm, Children's 1 Mile Fun Run 3:30 pm, Open 1 Mile Fun Run 4:00 pm, 5km Run 4:00 pm, 5km Race Walk / Fitness Walk
  4. My wife, @otterbyte mentioned to me that the local NF Facebook group was having a conversation about people interested in playing some tabletop RPGs/D&D. I am not on FB, but I thought I'd post a thread here and have her link it. I am a longtime grognard gamer. I've been playing for about 35 years and have even published a few gaming products. I am happy to run or play a game if people are interested. I tend to favor fantasy games (as opposed to Sci-Fi or modern, but those can be fun too). I've a strong "old-school" background, so I favor systems and editions that trend that way. We can talk more about that if this thread goes anywhere. We are located in the MoCo area (Silver Spring) area, but some commuting is not a deal-breaker for me. I have a recommendation in fact. There is an excellent gaming store in Glen Burnie, MD called Games & Stuff . They have a big playing area in the back for all sorts of gaming (miniatures, cards, RPGs). If there is enough interest, we could set a date some weekend to meet there are try out a simple adventure as a test run. If people have fun, we can see about expanding things into a regular meetup or even a campaign.
  5. I have just arrived in your city! I'm here for about a week and would like to meet some Italian nerds and maybe get some help. I'm staying in a hostel near Termini station and been told that the area is a bit dodgy to go out in after dark. I've also been following a running programme, I'm about half way through it and it's the best progress I've ever made so I don't want to give it up while I'm here. Any advice on good/better places to go for a run?
  6. Time for another Sydney meetup, everyone is welcome to attend. This time we're going to do something a bit different and a bit more active with no beer involved! Inspired by Steve's recent blog post we're going to try Indoor climbing! Here are the details: Venue: ClimbFit in St Leonards. http://www.climbfit.com.au/ Date: Thursday 7th July 2016 Time: From 6.30pm onwards (the entry fee gets you unlimited time and the place closes at 11pm) Cost: $23 including equipment hire @Yuen @BarefootDawsyand @Endor are confirmed, everyone is very welcome, it will be a very relaxed event where you can go at your own pace and do as much or as little as you wish. Me and Dawsy haven't climbed before and are complete beginners, Yuen is pretty experienced but hasn't climbed for a few years so we have a mix of skill levels. I also notice the entry fee includes gym access so if anyone wants to come and use the gym then hang out that's cool too. They even do a Yoga class at 8pm on Thursdays too. Come and join the fun! @Suguru
  7. Time for our first 2016 Sydney meetup, trying to make it inclusive and accessible to all since we have a few new names around the boards. After party: 7.30 - 8pm (depending when we finish bowling) - Spawn Point video games bar http://www.spawnpoint.com.au/ Me and Dawsy @BarefootDawsy are confirmed so the event will go ahead, the more people that come the better, everyone is welcome we'd love to see you there! @Yuen Tired to tag Sugaru but not happening...

  9. Hello there! The well known Freerunning Team Farang wants to declare April 29 as the offical Parkour/ Freerunning Day. For that their goal is to have as much Jams (= Training together) in as much places and coutries as possible. The cool thing is that, no matter if you are a beginner, interested or a pro, you can find like minded Traceurs & Freerunners. Farang's video You can start a training on your own or check the internet if there is already such an event at you city. I hope you will participate and have fun doing it! ~Ikarus
  10. It's that time again! The Scottish Nerds are putting on a European meet-up and inviting everyone else to come play with us. There will be lifting and yoga and walking and gaming and drinking and eating and cooking (and hopefully some sleeping) and all in the gorgeous and fantastic city of Edinburgh. The dates are provisionally 7-9 October following a Doodle poll and ideas for the weekend are currently running as follows: Friday night: meet, eat and game - Possibly at Wings Edinburgh (they do have veggie options, but the main thing they have is multiple retro gaming consoles and lots of very unhealthy foods and drinks)Saturday: options for lifting, yoga, walking, climbing, running, cooking and eatingSunday: brunch and farewells. We'll be putting together a little organising committee (and will add their names to this post once confirmed) but there's no limit to the fun we can have!

  13. Just looking, as it looks like I missed a fellow nerd last year, any nerds looking at going to Killington next year?
  14. What with Steve being here and all, maybe it's time to plan a big meetup here in NYC. Any takers? Ideas for activities/locations/etc? It could be something simple like pullups in the Park, and Thai food afterwards, but I'm not locked into that. Tompkins Square Park might be a good option, too. I'm thinking late October. Any takers? If you know someone from New York, please spread the word around. J.
  15. Hey Nerds. I posted about this in the Big Ass Boston Thread, but thought I'd make a new one. I'll be in the area Oct 8-13 and would love to see/meet some nerds. So, uh, let's maybe try to plan something. It's been a really long time since I've been up there so help me with ideas for hangouts. I'll be staying in NH, but driving to the Boston area is not a problem.
  16. Attention all Vancouverites! How many local rebels do we have? Let's go for a hike or 2 or 20. I live in Surrey but usually travel to TriCities, Valley, or North Shore for hiking. Open to any suggestions I also love swimming and plan to swim lengthways across Buntzen Lake sometime in August.
  17. Any NF Rebels out there from Central Oregon? I've only got three on count so far and would love to find more of you! Mozy on over to our Facebook page if you're interested in meeting up and keeping in touch! https://www.facebook.com/groups/CONFRebels/ And/or, of course, take a moment to hello below. 19. Hi. My experience with forums which have a strong USA following is that Canadians make up the second largest population demographic. I can see that their meetups in the international section get quite a few views and it would be nice to have a section I can see quickly - canada's a big place but we tend to be pretty tied together and have a smal population, so it's nice to cheer someone on in PEI even if I am in BC and to be able to quickly see their posts w/o mining through the international topic. we will try to not just talk about hockey meetups thanks
  20. Hi guys, Time for our 3rd meetup (this year) in beautiful Sydney, Australia, home of many more meetups than Melbourne ever manage Everyone is welcome to attend. Witness the majesty of the fabled scout leader @BarefootDawsy running away from a plate of prawns in sheer terror But most of all come and enjoy some good food and the company of fellow Nerds for an evening. Hope to see you there. @suguru

  24. In conjunction with the GoRuck Challenge that many Nerd Fitness members will be participating in or spectating on May 23, I'll be hosting a cookout on Sunday, May 25th at my house in Somerville. The cookout is open to any and all NF members, friends, significant others, beers, and pets. We'll probably have two grills going and a wide array of grilled meats, veggies, veg-based salads, grain-based salads, and a stupid number of desserts, I'm sure. I'm hoping for nice weather so that this will mostly be an outdoor event, as we have a yard and a hot tub out there. Details: Who~ NFers and beloved comrades What~ Cookout to celebrate surviving (hopefully) the Ruck, Memorial Day, and Nerd Life When~ 1:30 PM on Sunday, 5/25 Where~ Somerville, MA -- PM me for an address if you are coming Why~ Just because <3 I am currently planning on providing a wide variety of foods to suit any dietary needs, but I'd love for those who decide to come to let me know if they have any particular allergies or serious restrictions. P.S. -- There may or may not already be plans for goodie bags.
  25. Just seeing if there are folk out here in the Perth and the west that are Rebels and maybe looking at doing something. Just testing the waters so to speak, see if anyone's interested
