  1. Hi everyone, I'm going to Japan for a holiday! I will be in Osaka/Kyoto/Tokyo/Sapporo between 25 December and 10 January. Do we have any members from Japan here?
  2. Hi everyone, time for an overdue meetup in Sydney! It's open to anyone and I encourage you to come along and meet some fellow NF'ers, we're friendly folks Venue: Red Oak Boutique Beer Cafe, 201 Clarence Street, Sydney, NSW, Australia, 2000 Date: Thursday 5th June Time: From 6:30pm Cheers Dominic Attending: @Endor @barefootdawsy @Yuen
  3. In conjunction with the GoRuck Challenge that many Nerd Fitness members will be participating in or spectating on May 23, I'll be hosting a cookout on Sunday, May 25th at my house in Somerville. The cookout is open to any and all NF members, friends, significant others, beers, and pets. We'll probably have two grills going and a wide array of grilled meats, veggies, veg-based salads, grain-based salads, and a stupid number of desserts, I'm sure. I'm hoping for nice weather so that this will mostly be an outdoor event, as we have a yard and a hot tub out there. Details: Who~ NFers and beloved comrades What~ Cookout to celebrate surviving (hopefully) the Ruck, Memorial Day, and Nerd Life When~ 1:30 PM on Sunday, 5/25 Where~ Somerville, MA -- PM me for an address if you are coming Why~ Just because <3 I am currently planning on providing a wide variety of foods to suit any dietary needs, but I'd love for those who decide to come to let me know if they have any particular allergies or serious restrictions. P.S. -- There may or may not already be plans for goodie bags.
  4. Hey everyone! I can't wait to meet you all and show you a couple of my fave places in my beloved Des Moines Date: Saturday, March 1st (time TBD) We will start off at: Brenton Skating Plaza 520 Robert D Ray Dr Des Moines, IA 50309-1824 We're obviously going ice skating, and Brenton is an outdoor skating arena, so wear several layers and bring plenty of gloves, hats, scarves, etc. Also, it costs $6 for admission and $3.50 for ice skate rentals. However, if there are 10 or more people, it will only cost $7 per person. This is one reason that it would be fantastic for everyone to commit as soon as possible, so I know what kind of numbers we're looking at, but either way, no big deal. For more information about Brenton, check out: http://brentonplaza.com/ We will then be going to my favorite restaurant, Zombie Burger The food's delicious, it's a really fun atmosphere and it's undoubtedly one of a kind. The restaurant is literally two blocks away from the skating plaza and has been my hangout spot since it opened in August 2011. They also have really creative shakes, spiked shakes and a full bar. For more information, here's their website, along with the menu: http://www.zombieburgerdm.com/ If everyone would like and if we had time, we could go over to UpDown (which is also a couple blocks away; all of the places we're going are in the East Village). drink beer and play arcade games http://updowndsm.com/ Or, we could just stay at Zombie Burger and drink there Either way, it's going to be a blast! As far as accommodations, I would definitely let you guys stay with me if I had my own place, but I don't yet. I would suggest finding a hotel near the airport, which is about 10 minutes away from the East Village, where we'll be spending our time. There are some very nice hotels in downtown DM, but they will be pricier. Here's a link to some airport hotels: http://www.tripadvisor.com/HotelsNear-g37835-qDSM-Des_Moines_Iowa.html Confirmed nerds so far: SnowWhite FalseAesop Wufkar SammyShark mmitchell151 Bananandrea And lastly, please reply if you are still planning on attending, and let me know if you have any questions; I'd be more than happy to answer them! I'd recommend everyone post their challenge thread or battle blog so we can get to know each other a bit before the meet up. I can't wait! Battle on, Nerds. Cheers! -SnowWhite
  5. Time for another NF meetup in sunny Sydney! Date: Tuesday 4th March 2014 Time: 6pm drinks for 7pm dinner Venue: Belgian Bier Cafe, 135 Harrington St, The Rocks NSW 2000...looks like it rebranded, anyway this is the one: http://www.heritageb...taurant.com.au/ Attending: Dominic BarefootDawsy Yuen viciousred Suguru
  6. Anyone else in Toronto? We should form a clan and support each other in our adventures in fitness! We should set a meetup and go from there
  7. G'day folks, time for our second Sydney meetup, a time of celebration as it's the holiday season and we've only a few challenge weeks of the year left. Sadly also a time of commiseration as we will be saying a fond farewell to our very own Swedish darling, The Mad Hatter! Now Dawsey and I never drink beer but Hatter insisted so we're doing a mini pub crawl cultural tour of the oldest area of Sydney, "The Rocks". Date: Tuesday 26th November Time: 6pm Venue: The Lord Nelson pub We'll stay in here for about 45 mins then head to: Venue 2: The Argyle We'll stay here another 45 mins then head to: 7:30pm Dinner at: The Lowenbrau I'll book a table at the Lowenbrau for 6 people, I think at this stage there's 4 of us but we'll have a couple extra spots if anyone else wants to join last minute. Attending so far: Dawsey Mad Hatter Yuen Dominic
  8. Vancouver, BC Holiday Meetup Where: Cypress Mountain When: Sunday, December 29th Who: Anyone! You! That's right, you, right there. You can rent snowshoes on the mountain. Here's the website for more info: http://cypressmountain.com/snowshoeing Post or PM me if you'd like to join us.
  9. Hey! So I made a pass through Boston last fall, but didn't see nearly enough, so I'm calling for a do-over. I'm thinking that I'll probably be there for about 5 days somewhere around the 2nd week of December. So I want two things from you all: 1) IDEAS! What are some of the top spots to see (that don't cost TOO much)? What should I absolutely not miss? Are there any special events I should plan around? 2) YOU. Well.. I don't really WANT you, but if anyone wants to meet up, I'd be delighted. Any nerds gonna be around? That's all for now, I'll let you know if the plan changes or when I come up with something a little more firm.
  10. It sounds like we are on for a meetup in Sydney. This is what's been proposed, post if date/time/venue is ok and if you will attend, if we get a few confirmed we can book a table. Venue: The Australian Hotel 100 Cumberland Street The Rocks, Sydney 2000 Date: Thursday 12th September (TBC) Time: 6pm - 8pm+ (TBC) Attending: Mad Hatter BarefootDawsy Dominic TerraNik
  11. Western Rebels, I have a question! I was looking through the programming for Nan Desu Kan (NDK, Denver's largest anime convention), which is coming up this weekend. I noticed that on Sunday morning, there's a fan-run panel entitled "DYEL? Nerd Fitness". The guide summary says "... crash course on why health and fitness is important for everyone, including nerds. Plus, learn some easy ways to get stated and stay healthy." I am curious, is this a coincidence? Or is there a Rebel in the area who's going to be running this panel? If so, I'm most definitely showing up to support!
  12. Is anyone else going to Pennsic? For those not in the know it is an SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms) Event. It is their biggest event all year. It means that you go and dress up in medieval clothes and do many fun things such as beat people with sticks while wearing armor, or throw axes at tree stumps, or take classes on history or sewing or chainmaile or.... SO MANY THINGS! I'm going to try to get in my bodyweight circuits while there, particularly during first week. During second week, I won't have so much free space within the bounds of my camp to work out. I was thinking of going up to Runestone hill to get in my workout time. Anyone else want to join? We can mutually pick a date/time.
  13. Hi All, I wanted to see if there was interest in getting together a group of NF people to run one of the heats of the Walking Dead Escape happening in SD July 19 and 20, Comic Con weekend. I will be finishing my first challenge and hoping to attack the course in a much better shape than last year. http://www.thewalkingdeadescape.com/sandiego.html I know it is a bit pricey at $75...but it was really fun last year and I am doing it to see how well my challenge went haha. I plan on doing anyway, but thought it would be fun to get a number of people from here to do it together. Maybe wear any NF apparel you have or maybe we can have some type of marker that we are all from NF. If you are interested, sound off with dates and times that would work for you! Personally, either day is fine, but time wise...maybe between 6pm and 8pm ... still gives us time to see most of the day's offerings and before later evening fun...
  14. Anyone going to PAX East in March? I heard in the chat room that a few forum members might be going but I was just curious to see who all is planning on attending!
  15. Hey everyone! My husband and I just got our FIRST EVER TICKETS TO COMIC CON! Obviously, I'm very excited about this prospect - I've been wanting to go for years. So who else is all going? We should meet up! If you've been there before - what would be a good place to meet at? I'm not familiar with the layout or any landmarks, but it sounds like a great opportunity to meet fellow NF members! I originally thought about posting this in "meetups" but not everyone who will be there is originally from the West region, specifically. This seemed like the best place to reach most NF members. Also, share your stories from past Comic Cons or even other conventions!
