  1. Hello fellow nerds. In the last few minutes before the new year, I'm frantically scrambling to finish my New Year's resolutions. I had a lot of fitness ones this year after I realized that I could use my stomach like a drum. I've really been inspired by Steve and the rest of the NF community. My resolutions this year are as follows: 1. Is to lose 2 inches off my gut by July. 2. Because I've been bad about this before, my second resolution is to exercise at least every other day. On days when I don't do any official exercise, I need to do 300 jumping jacks and 15 pushups divided throughout the day. 3. Eat paleo at least 4 days out of the week. When I'm not eating paleo I need to be doing a 16-8 fast. I also resolved that if I binge on sugary or greasy foods one day, then I have to do a 24 hour fast within the next 2 days. 4. This was probably covered in the above resolution, but it is to fast at least 5 days of the week, or any day not eating paleo. I'm going to try to do a 24 hour fast every 2 weeks. Well, those were my resolutions. What do you think? Anything that I can improve?

Kuros, through passed down stories that have become nothing more than legend, is known to most as the "Knight Warrior of the Books of Excalibur," but few would know it upon meeting this unassuming hero. Less bulky warrior and more agile ranger, with a mind sharper than any blade (except Brightsword, of course), Kuros is a servant of light, far more humble than the picture this old keeper of lore will paint for you. Always cloaked and seldom seen, it would be easy to mistake him for an assassin (a poor one at that if he is indeed seen), or a scout. Alas, this is not the case. Jack of all trades, but a master of none, except maybe stillness of mind. The sum total of his attributes is what makes him a force to be reckoned with. Any obstacle or any foe can be conquered, and the only limiting factor is his force of will. With the proper application of blade and bow, mind and manners, Kuros can equally well disarm both the hound of Hades or the daughter of Zeus. Ironically though, given his tremendous capability and power to sway the forces of evil, Kuros has not been seen for many years, and as we approach our darkest hour, the world needs all the heroes she can get. Whispers on the wind have become widespread rumor, and these tell of a broken husk of a man that was once humankind’s staunchest advocate. It is said that he has withdrawn from the world, grieving for a loved one who has passed from this life. If Kuros happens to be reading this right now, know this. This world is merely a doorway to the next life. You will see your beloved again, but not yet… not yet. Take heart. There are many more beautiful lives to preserve and the darkness is ever encroaching. The bell has been rung and the hour is now. The time to reforge ourselves into something new, something stronger, is here. I call upon all the hesitant and all the eager heroes of the world. Our world is at your mercy. Will you not answer her call? Hello everyone and sorry for the over the top RPGing. I had serious fun with that. I'm really looking forward to this experience. Such a cool site and idea. Anyways, my real name is Mike, I'm 27 years old and I'm looking to get fitter than ever. How fit? Like Gimli and Legolas had a baby and that kid grew up in the wild raised by wolves and surrounded by orcs level of fit. I like to do a little bit of everything to be honest with you. Traditional strength routines, cross-fit style circuits, sprint workouts, distance running, and climbing. If anyone's in the Idaho Falls area (just about to move out there from Virginia), let me know if you're looking for a workout partner. Also, that list is by no means exhaustive. I also like to snowboard, play ultimate frisbee and competitive online video gaming. My xbox live gamertag is Terra Unu if anyone wants to add me. Right now I play Overwatch and Left 4 Dead 2 (yes I know it's old) mainly, but I also occasionally get on Battlefield 4, Halo 5, Destiny, Diablo III, Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. My favorite games of all time are Rygar, Wizards and Warriors, Donkey Kong 64, Goldeneye, Nightfire, Halo, Left 4 Dead, Jak and Daxter, Champions of Norrath, Fusion Frenzy, World of Warcraft, Counter Strike and the original Star Wars Battlefront games. This last part I'll end up posting in a more appropriate section of the forums, but I thought since I'm introducing myself, I might as well introduce another idea that I think would be great for the site (or terrible, not sure yet). What do you guys and gals think about all our character profiles and quests being accessible via a facebook-like network? I personally think it would be cool to check out and gain inspiration from other people's profiles and keep in touch with one another via a facebook-like interface, but in the style and format of this site with this specific community.   3. Hello, introductions are always so tough. Well, let's start with the basic. My name is Alexander, 22 years old and I'm from Sweden! I like daydreaming and coming up with all sorts of fantasies in my head, it's amazingly fun. So, here's the thing. I have always been struggling with my weight, I eat when I'm bored, stressed, sad and the whole spectrum of emotions. After so many years, it has turned into an extremely hard habit too break and I need your help! A place that I can turn to in my darkest hours, when the craving for "sugar" is strong. It feels nice joining Nerdfitness and it's community and I hope you all will welcome me with open arms. Thank you for reading and it's so fun meeting you all! Thank you!
  4. I'm a 19 year old BRO-DAWG and long time lurker on nerd fitness (since about mid 2013). I've always noticed how great this community is just by reading the comments posted under Steve's blog entries, not really sure why I waited so long to finally make an account. Sharing experiences with eachother online in a such a judgement free area seems like such a perfect way to stay motivated and accountable. Let me tell ya a bit about my "fitness journey" so far. I've already lost a fair amount of weight, although I wasn't that heavy to begin with. I'm 5'8 and I've lost about 25-30 pounds in the past few months in spurts, I'm now at about 150. My goal is to improve my diet, be healthier, more athletic, stronger, and just overall more radical and EXTREME. So far I've been doing push-ups, sit-ups and curls 2-3 times a week for the past month. I know it's very basic, but it's a good way for me to get some exercise without having to sign up for a gym membership. I also walk my dog, or just go for long 1-2 hour walks by myself. I live in the north area of Toronto, lots of great nature trails here. I also try to eat lots of vegetables and eat less in general. My weakness is pizza and chips. I'm going to try and get into distance running again. Over the summer and before, I would go for 5-10k jogs depending on my mood, but I lost motivation and stopped in august. I also may buy some weights off craigslist or something, that would be the next step. There are a lot of active things I like doing, which I don't do often enough. Badminton, parkour in those indoor parkour gyms, and archery tag, which is like shooting eachother with marshmallow-tipped arrows (it's radical). Some vidya-games I like playing are Old School Runescape (an RPG ), Star Wars Battlefront 2, or any Mario or Nintendo game I can get my paws on. TV Series: Avatar the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Arrow, The Clone Wars, Ray Donovan, ect. I'm hoping that posting here regularly will help keep me hungry for more progress. You all seem like positive and encouraging people and I look forward to sharing my progress with all of you. I hope I can maybe help motivate some of you too Tell me a bit about YOURSELVES now!   5. I was in rut and I decided to change my body and outlook on life a little over 2 years ago. I've always been a go-getter but I got complacent and down-right boring (not to mention overweight). I've always loved and admired bad-A heroines---starting with Scout in Charlotte's Web (she is a little known bad-A) to Michonne from the Walking Dead, Vin in Mistborn, Katniss, Arya. The list could go on and on. So naturally I've always wanted to be physically strong, so I chose strength training for my transformation. I didn't know where to start so I starting researching. I found a great book at the library (a real book with paper *gasp*) called Strength for Life. That gave me the basics of strength training---push vs. pull muscles and a weekly routine. But my attention span is the equivalent of a squirrel's so I really needed motivation and some goals. I decided that I wanted to do a pull-up. I was always that kid that just hung on the bar when we had those fitness tests in grade school. I couldn't fathom pulling my ENTIRE bodyweight up by my arms. I also wanted to show my kids how to set a goal and achieve it. Back to my research, I came across "How to do a pull-up finally!" here on this seemingly nondescript yet awesome website. By nondescript, I mean all of the other websites had these gorgeous "fitness models" who (IMO) had no idea what it was like to birth 3 kids, gain a preposterous amount of weight, and try to lose it ALL while trying to have a life---that's obviously not NF. I'm not knocking gorgeous fitness models but at that time, I wasn't trying to hear how I can get my "bod" back in 3 weeks. I don't like gimmicks. Actually I hate gimmicks. I like step-by-step real, proven plans with real goals that real people have used. Believe it or not them internets don't always tell the truth. So I found this site and I was HOOKED. This site and Steve's fantastic blogs helped keep me motivated and I killed my goals---like murder/death/kill killed. I can do 7 pull-ups now. My PR is 10. I lost 40 pounds, dropped by body fat percentage by like 15-18%, I started my own consulting company, and most importantly, I showed my kids that goals are reachable in areas other than Call of Duty. My son used 20 seconds of insane courage to dunk the basketball for the first time. Unfortunately, I've been silent here on Nerd Fitness forums. My apologies. I'm sure I'm not alone in silently supporting the rebellion. But this is me taking off my cloak and openly declaring myself a Rebel (specifically a Warrior/Assassin). What's good?
  6. Alright so I’ve been pretty diligent about dieting and exercise since January . It’s now 5 months later and I’ve lost close to 42lbs, (yay!) however, I’ve created a horrible habit of eating fast food, and making up for it by eating less throughout the day to create the “calorie deficit†to lose weight. Though I am losing weight, I don’t feel like I’m getting the most of my lift, or my progress. While I am focused on losing weight ( I’m currently 184lbs, long term goal is 160lbs) I feel like my body would benefit a lot more from dropping my body fat percentage, and that’s something I don’t think I’m doing with my current faulty diet choices. I guess my question is, what are some tips you guys have used to wean yourself off fast food? How do you keep your composure? And How have you managed to drop your body fat percentage, in a healthy way?
  7. A couple of weeks ago, I received an email. It was from myself, having sent it precisely a year before, packed full of predictions for the coming year: learn to do a backflip (90% likely) still living in Cambridge, UK (75%) England to win the football world cup (5%) (...) I wrote it to see how my view of the future would compare with how events actually turn out. The results showed me a lot about how we see the future, so I'm sharing them with the community here On average the predictions were reasonable. Out of 8 items I'd considered to be 40% likely, 3 happened (38%). Out of 12 things at 60%, 5 happened (42%). Both things at 85% did happen. However, my view for the future was clearly a lot more exciting and action-packed than my predictions! I didn't realise it at the time, but if my predictions had been accurate, I'd hardly have had time to catch my breath amongst everything else. To simulate this, I took some random numbers and interpreted these to determine what would happen in an example year - and got the following: still doing weightlifting and football changed career completely and bought a house composed more piano music, and went to another metal concert entered the Mental Calculation World Cup 2014 travelled to 2 new countries had an active love life learned to front handspring, to backflip and to handstand (more minor things) Imagine how much effort it would take for all of that happen in a single year! 2014 was a good year for me, but not quite this busy! Why were my predictions like this? I think there are several connected reasons: [a] We tend to make predictions - and plans - in isolation. Yes, if I made it a priority I could compose a metal/guitar composition, but then I'd be prioritising something else less. Maybe I'd be doing less gymnastics. Yes, I could've decided to change career, but after all the thinking and applying and admin and stuff and indecision, I wouldn't have as much energy for learning to drive or going travelling. I find that the same thing often happens in NF challenges - I choose several goals that would be reasonable if they were the only thing being worked on, but forget that when we have 5 goals like this, there just isn't enough motivation available to do everything One year is a long time! I've just Googled it, and there are various quotes to the effect that "you overestimate what you can do in a year, but underestimate what you can do in ten years". [c] I am overconfident. The items in my list that I assigned the most exaggerated probabilities to were the ones that would have caused me the most pride, for example achieving various gymnastic and strength goals. It's sobering to see this overconfidence illustrated so vividly, but it's actually something I value quite highly. It's so much easier to motivate yourself to do difficult things if you have an unreasonably high confidence in them. Taken to the extreme, you become simply deluded with limited ability to make useful plans. But in moderation, it can significantly help your progress towards your goals. Furthermore, you have more fun in the process if you believe you're always on the cusp of greatness (If you're an underconfident reader, it's worth working on increasing your expectations of the future for this reason) So how will all this change my outlook of the future? I'll still have the same optimistic viewpoint, but I'll remember to act as if life will change less quickly than I expect. And that means that if I want anything to change, it requires me to be proactive about that change, because I can't rely on the random fluctuations of life to bring about those changes for me.
  8. Okay nerds, I have a project I've been thinking about starting for a while, and I want your help. I want to create a Nerd Fitness forum member motivational montage. Everyone that wants to participate will be included. It's pretty simple, everyone contribute a video clip of yourself doing something you love for fitness, be it lifting, running, climbing, flipping, or eating a salad. Be creative! Clips should be relatively short so that if tons of people participate I can squeeze them all in. If there is enough footage, I will make multiple videos. If we get enough involvement this will be a fun way to motivate each other and we'll have something great to show off to people when we're talking about the forum. "Yeah, those guys are great! Check this out." Along with your footage, comment on here letting us know that you've made a contribution, and throw up the name of a song you find inspirational or motivating. After we have a lot of video collected we'll have a vote to pick what song (or songs) get used for the background music. Any other ideas or suggestions are more than welcome!   9. This is my first time doing a challenge and I'm super excited! ! My Main Quest is: I wanna build muscle and feel stronger and healthier. First mission: I am going to eat at least 3000 calories every day with quality foods. â— I'm a college student so I'm a little tight on cash. My main goal with this mission is to eat the least amount of processed foods possible under my budget while reaching my 3000 calorie goal each day. Grading: every day per week A: 3,000 calories or higher B: 3,000-2,800 calories C: 2,800-2,500 calories D: 2,500 or less calories F: I drop out or stop trying Second mission: exercise on alternating days, in other words 4 times a week. â—I'm gonna be doing the level 1 Bodyweight training because I don't have any equipment at home. I've always been active but I'm really excited to start working out and stick to it. As a pre med student, I have a busy life and it can be easy to find an excuse so I'm gonna need the support on this one. I'll be working out in the afternoons, about 5:00pm. Grading: per week A: 4 times B: 3 times C: 2 times D: only one F: I stopped exercising Third mission: do a 20-30 min walk/jog every morning. â—Again, could use the support with this one but I really think this will help with waking me up in the morning and feeling more productive and alert. These walks will be at 7:30 am so that it can fit with my study schedule at the moment. Grading: every day per week A: didn't miss a day B: missed 1 day B-: missed 2 days C: missed 3 days C-: missed 4 days D: missed 5 days F: stopped running

Hi, I'm new here, my name is Mario, I'm from Monterrey, México, I'm 23 yo, All my life I have been working out (I played baseball as a child until I graduated from college) but until recently I decided to take a better eating habits, after three months of keeping track of my meals with the 'myplate' app (from livestrong.com) I was able to see the results and pull out a daily average where I can see my current habits. Now that I'm graduated I train at a gym (and I'm happy to say that even wihtout reading this website, I'm doing almost everything that steve recommends on his blog) I want to lower my BF% I'm currently at 21.5%, I train 5-6 times a week, aprox an hour a day, my body type is endomorph. My conclusions are that I need to improve my calorie intake, turn up the fat and the protein, but I'd like to know your opinion, can you help me get more conclusions? why is it important to have calories above the BRM?? PS. I'm attaching my numbers!! PS2. excuse my english, hope you guys can understand my doubts
  12. Hello everyone, presentation time has always put me in a strange mood. I feel embarassed and I never know what to say! So, I'll let Prof.Oak help me and I'll start saying that I'm a male and my name is Antonio. I live in Italy, at Milan and I'm facing the last year of a Business Bachelor. I like surfing the net, going on 9gag(or memecenter), writing and watching TV series. I also enjoy art and listening to pop music. I'm overweight and I'd like to loose some pounds to feel better and gain some self-confidence. I like to go around drinking and partying, but my being out of shape makes me feel unconfortable with other people. So, I decided to start the Paleo diet and to try to work out(long story short: I say try because I have a broken hand, so everything it's more difficult)!   13. Wow! Finally figured out how to post something...lol. When I say Newbie all around, I really mean it. I've never joined a group on line, let alone one that you needed to be involved in. When I stumbled onto this site while researching the Paleo diet, I was blown away! Someone finally understood that there are so many of us out here that don't know the first thing about becoming healthier and making it a lifestyle, not just a three week stint. Thank you so much! Today was my first day doing the Angry Birds workout. It was invigorating. I can't wait to hit it again and log my progress. But what I really want to do is follow in the footsteps of Staci. Granted she is a bit younger than me, but I feel motivated enough to get this done. I just turned 41 and quit smoking 4 months ago. I tried to watch what I ate, but gained 15 pounds anyway. Let me just say that it is not a pleasure looking in the mirror, yet. But I plan on changing that in a big way. My goal is to wear a bikini without a cover up, to finally wear shorts in the summer and to look like I'm 10 years younger than I am. I also want to eliminate all the "bad" foods from my diet. I have already started t eliminate gluten and am working on the sugary stuff. I've done a fairly good job of getting rid of processed foods. I do have to concede on some things or my 15 year old son will rebel. But I am slowly getting him onboard this healthier lifestyle. Well, I'm heading out to walk the dog and plan dinner tonight.

"The thing about wikipedia is that somebody else needs to write it, i'm not allowed to write about myself or my site; so, some random person made a wikipedia page about me, which is both funny and strange :)If somebody were to make a page about Nerd Fitness, I'd be okay with it, but that's for somebody else to decide!" Bouhh.. Sadly sad story. So , I would write or translate it glady in french but I Obviously CAN'T do it in english and the web site deserve a real good article on NerdFitness.com. I am new here and my first reflex was to wiki Nerdfitness and I hadn't find anythings. How desapointing. So here my idea : You english guys, should make a contest, an essai, i don't know.. something ! about this. a proposal of an iadea of arcticle on wiki. What do you think ? Was it already made ?
