  1. I'm 73, female, Atkins since the first book came out in 1972. For the past 3 years I've been strict LCHF + IF. Have no diseases, take no prescription drugs and have been walking 3 miles before dawn every morning for 4 years. I have basically the same body shape as in '72 when I was 28 years old. I've come to The Rebellion because recently my maintenance was disrupted and I don't know why. This isn't about vanity. I need to do something about it because at my age, health and mobility are paramount. Not only the body benefits from Keto and Intermittent Fasting, but the BRAIN health as well. I encourage you to take care of yourself, even while the people around you are busily scolding you and telling you your WayOfEating will kill you. I'm still alive and running around all healthy while others my age are riding scooters in the super market. We are the next wave of good health. Read the works of Drs. Dale Bredesen, Terry Wahls, Jason Fung, and others who are doing all they can to overcome the obesity/diabesity epidemic. Imgur I'm here to learn.
  2. Hi all! My Name is Olivia, and I'm really pretty new to fitness stuff in general. I've always been pretty thin (5'4" ~118lb) and in fairly decent shape, but I've decided I want more. I want to achieve something. I'm currently working in retail and walk everywhere, but I'm interested in learning to lift and building strength. I was a dancer for my whole childhood and used to practice yoga fairly regularly and I'm interested in starting those things up again but I really am fascinated with the idea with being able to be a smallish female who can lift some freaking weights. My problem really is that I have moderate chronic back pain that's caused by scoliosis in my lower spine, it stopped me from being able to run, which I really loved doing. It also makes me really scared to try anything without someone supervising me, but I don't have the budget for a personal trainer or even consistent physical therapy because, you know, the American healthcare system is what it is and I'm barely working above minimum wage. I'd really love some guidance on how to move forward safely, but at a pace where I can actually see results, and feel like I'm not babying myself. I'm really really excited about the prospect of all of this but I don't know where to start. Please, help! Any and all advice appreciated, as well as any recipes because I don't want to be eating stir fry every night if I can help it! Thanks! Olivia
  3. How's that for a catchy thread title?? I'm Shenani, mom of three, and in need of a health overhaul. Any other parents of wee ones here? My husband is a HUGE nerd, but this is my first foray into nerdery! I'm excited! Question: the Druids is where my heart is, but I've done yoga and meditated for many years. Should I join something more out of my comfort zone? Or stick with what I know?
  4. Hi everybody! I'm Jordan or more wonderfully known as see_her_squat. I'm starting my fitness journey on Sunday when I return home and buy an awesome student discount gym membership! I am a bubbly girl, um... I like to squat and I want to learn how to squat heavy. Stats: Height: The perfect balance between five foot four and five foot three! Weight: 173.5 pounds Everything else I don't have access to because I am away right now. My goal is to lose maybe 20 pounds by this August. I know that it is doable I just need help along the way. So yeah pop by say hi I don't bite (much) and yeah... PEACE!
  5. Hello, My name is Aaren, but you can call me Neria if you want. It's finally nice to have the guts to actually do my first introduction post. To be honest, I was kinda intimidated, so I'll admit it has taken me a bit to muster up this courage. Just a little bit about me: I'm 21-years-old and I currently live in Canada. My lifetime goal (non-fitness related) is to become a doctor, or any job in the medical field for that matter, in any area of the world that needs medical attention. I believe that medicine may be my calling, so I want to pursue that and use these talents that I've been given to help others in need. Though I do love medicine and helping others feel better, I do have some geeky interests I have a strange fascination with Superman. Though I'm not as hardcore as I would like to be with the comics and the movies, I think I'm more into what he symbolizes. Superheroes just fascinate me in general, like the Hulk, Flash, Green Lantern, Batman, Sif, Wonderwoman, Loki (yeah I know he isn't a hero but I'm a Loki fangirl mostly because I admire Tom Hiddleston), if only I had the time to read the comics, so most of my ideas of superheroes are based on movies and tv series (sorry, don't hate me ) I also really enjoy Nickelodeon's Avatar series both the Last Airbender (not the movie by M. Night Shyamalan though) and Legend of Korra. I like the storytelling, the characters, and just the whole idea of humans being able to manipulate the traditional four elements. I also truly appreciate these shows because in some way they made me enjoy my own culture that I used to not be so fond of because it was mocked by some of my peers in middle to high school. One of my hobbies is playing video games as I've always found it stress relieving. I have probably loved video games since I was a child. The first console I ever interacted with was a Sega Genesis, but my fondest childhood memories were spent with the N64, the Gameboy Colour and the PS2 (Kingdom Hearts anyone? ), but I do believe that the main reason why I like video games so much is mostly because I loved the adventure that came with it, and I have found that I especially enjoyed open-world rpgs where there is a whole bunch of places that I can explore. At this moment, my favourite video games are LoZ: Ocarina of Time, TES V: Skyrim, Portal series, KH series, Assassin's Creed I and III, Mirror's Edge, Uncharted series, and the Last of Us. Surprisingly, these video games have developed my desire to want to be more adventurous myself. I like the idea of hiking, swimming, and climbing to explore this beautiful world that we live in because let's be honest, despite the realism of the graphics in the PS4 or Xbox One, it can never beat the reality of the Amazonian rainforest or the Himalayas. My ultimate workout goals are to become a parkour traceur (sorry if I spelt that wrong); to become a Wushu martial artist (modelling after the martial arts forms that Nickelodeon's Avatar series bases their bending after, specifically Northern Shaolin, Baguazhang, Hung Gar, and Tai Chi), and to conquer this American Ninja Warrior course like Kacy did in this video: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=american+ninja+warrior+kacy+catanzaro. These seem like big, daunting goals, especially the last one, but it doesn't hurt to shoot for the stars (pardon the cliche). Anyway, for the parkour and wushu, I mostly want to be self-taught since classes do cost money, and I'm still a college student dealing with tuition (lol), but if it is better to do classes then I will consider it. My only issue is that I struggle finding time with working out in general. I know that it's a lame excuse, but I've always found it to be hard especially when I have school assignments to deal with and I'm struggling with lack of sleep. Granted, this was probably due to my horrible time management, but either way, I do struggle with this issue, so I prefer shorter, quicker workouts. I've also struggled with the motivation to workout, but I feel like since I found this site, it hopefully may not be as much of a problem. Another excuse I've struggled with is that I suffer from DeQuervain's tendonitis in my thumbs and wrists, so whenever it acts up, I struggle to do pushups, inverted rows, and hold heavier weights. (Maybe I'm not doing them right?) But I'd like to hear suggestions in stretching to help lessen the inflammation, while also still strengthening my hands and increasing my dexterity, since I'm also very interested in practicing surgery. Currently, I have the summer off, and I know I can start developing habits, right? So my first current quest is to develop the habit of working out consistently, and figuring out what kind of workouts I can do once I get back to school. (I know that that sounds vague, but I'll probably be more specific when I start my first log). As for the workouts, I'm very much open to suggestions. Anyway, I apologize for the long winded introduction, but I am looking forward to starting out my first challenge and levelling up. Thanks for reading! ~Neria.
  6. Hello, salutations and cheers. I am Aaron (Rebel: GingerPsyco) and I wish you all well. I've read many of the articles here on NF and the have provided countless amounts of inspiration, ideas, and goals. Some such goals include increasing my stamina and body awareness for parkour, better my eating habits (would say I'm 70% Paleo), and lessen my fear of general interactions with strangers. I leave my self in your care, and hope to make some new friends/mentors in this new chapter of life. Side note: I have a challange and would like some directions of where to look. Due to my profession (you get three guesses and the first two don't count ) I don't have the most stable of 'ground' to do my workouts right now. Currently, I focus on bodyweight exercises, lunges, pushups, pullups, oblique carries, and the likes, and one of my concerns are my knees. Family history isn't the best in this area, and there have been times where I've had to scale back my workouts due to fatigue/dull ache in my knees. Question; doe anyone know of a good exercise/stretch that I can do on a rocking ship that can help fortify and stabilize my knees? Thank you for reading, and hope to meet you all soon. Cheers, GingerPsyco
  7. Hello everyone I'm Jon. 5'11. I'm from new york city and currently 22 years old. I'm an education/mathematics major attempting to level up in fitness. Lover of megaman, dragon ball, video games, super heroes, manga, and comicbooks. I dont want rock hard abs or giant arms. What I do want is a strong flexible body that will support me on any adventure or personal challenges I may set for myself, and my dreams. A little bit about me. I've never really been the skinny kid I was always the chubby overweight kid. It basically started at a young age when I learned how to open the refrigerator. It eventually got pretty bad and I decided I had to do something about my physique (also i had this crush on this girl in my class and wanted to be good enough for her...I was young and naive)at the end of 7th grade I decided it wasn't okay to be 180lbs and 13 years olds (this is when I first started my journey in fitness but I was doing it all wrong.) I ate way less did countless push ups, sit ups, chin ups, pull ups I did lose the weight with the help of puberty by the end of 8th grade I was 150Lbs and a bit taller. I never confessed my middle school crush though. Throughout high school I tried to stay active I joined a few sport teams the football team track team and played handball, joined a local gym for their swimming pool, I thought I was in great shape but my energy levels weren't balanced. Around this time I would weight about 140 to 160 but it would always go up and down. When I started college I became a smoker became less active got a bit lazier at times. Last year I weighed about 155lbs but this was around the time of my life when I was smoking a pack a day and drinking alot. A little while after this I quit smoking got even lazier(you don't realize how often youre out walking when youre a full time smoker) and it wasn't until a few months ago that it got so bad I started to have back problems and weighed almost 180lbs. I was so out of shape that I had to do something about this, but this time for myself! This time I took nutrition and fitness more seriously than ever before. I randomly came across this site when I was searching ways to decrease body fat percentage and there it was a paleo article by steve. I immediately fell in love with this site with all its useful information. tomorrow on july 14th it will be 2 months since I've started working out regularly with a weights and cardio program. I'm currently around 171lbs with 11.3% body fat. I'm not sure at what body percentage I started at but I'm sure it was a bit over 20% but slowly and surely I'll get that strong and flexible body that will support my dreams.
  8. Pyri reporting for duty, Sir! I heard that the Nerd Rebellion is in need of out of shape, overweight, people who are finally ready to kick some ass... so here I am! I beg each and every one of you to help keep me going, to help drag me through the dirt and the rocks and the rough spots, til I can learn to do it on my own. I have a lot of motivations, but I would say that the biggest is that I want to be in good shape for when I have a child (not currently pregnant). I want to be able to go hiking and camping and fishing and play soccer and fly a kite and go swimming and lift them up high and swing them in my arms and just be able to be active with my child, so that they learn to naturally have an active, healthy lifestyle. I will teach and show my child, so that they don't struggle the way I have growing up. A bit of a back story... I've always been bigger, and have always been embarrassed of myself. I don't enjoy my body, and it shows that I don't take care of it. At 5'2, I'm 245 lbs. I'm tired of being looked down on, I'm tired of being tired, I'm fed-up with being mocked, and I'm fed-up with not liking myself. I want to become strong. I want to know what it feels like to RUN and not get winded. I want to know what it's like to skydive. I want to get back my self esteem (did I ever have it?) and grow some self control and up my willpower. I CAN do this. I WILL do this. And ain't nothing gunna stop me!
  9. Hi! I am excited to have finally made a account on this forum! The Nerd Fitness blog and forums are filled with incredibly awesome people and I end up spending way to much time reading them (but the time is totally worth it). I play college basketball which keeps me in shape, but it's the food that keeps me away from my goals. I only have this year and the next year of eligibility so i'd like to make these the best years of playing. To me that means getting in the best shape as humanly possible. I've been using my fitness pal as a way to keep me in check of what i am eating. I want to use NF as a way to connect with people and have help and motivation with my goals. So far my biggest goal that I have is to lower my body fat % so that I can run faster and jump higher. Practices are high intensity game like situations and we lift twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday). Sometimes I am really focused in getting my goals, but then it usually fizzes out and I give up. Cheers!

  11. Hello fellow nerds, My name is Zack Barnes, and I am trying to level up my life. I tried the paleo diet last year and it worked great, LOVED IT. However as income got tight and I slipped and had some fast food one night I slipped out of it. I am currently starting my 2nd heart on Link's screen. A new life persay. I have to start my quest to level up once more. I just moved to Murfreesboro, TN and I am looking for new friends around the area. I lived in Huntsville, AL with a few nerd fitness junkies down there and it was great, I had a lot of support out of them. So thats what I am looking for up here! I am currently at MTSU at for a Bachelors in Bussiness and Management. I work at The Home Depot in Smyrna as a full-time Appliance Sales Specialist. I want to become a fit assassin once more. I no longer want to live a "used to life" anymore. I want to be fit and in great health again. I have been on a destructive path over the past few years with my health. I am currently over-weight and trying to lose 50lbs and keep it off. I am trying to build up my strength as well. I WILL get to my goal and sustain it, I will level up my life and become the rogue I want to be again. I plan on starting the paleo diet again. I am looking at starting a regiment at MTSU's Gym to get back into shape. I want to be able to go out and rock climb again too. I want to be able to parkour again also. So, if there is anyone in the Middle TN area that also wants a new friend, contact me! Thank you for being here fellow fit nerds, Zack Contact: Personal: http://facebook.com/inukid My Hobby's Site: http://facebook.com/kousagicosplayphotography
