  1. ... Or at least I convinced myself I can. Hi there! I'm Blethan, and though I'm not new to NF (I was here once many moons ago, but I got very, very lost since then) I'm starting fresh. A little about my goals is that generally I'm here to learn to become more happy and healthy. I can get easily intimidated, so a community of people with similar interests and goals suits me down to the ground! But generally, I want to work on my fitness (getting lean and strong), my mind (building a more positive attitude to life) and to chase my wild personal goals. A bit about me, I am an animator/illustrator by trade, and I love my job, but have big dreams for my career going forward. I love all things crafty (drawing, painting, crochet are my go-to-guys, but I'lll pretty much have a go at anything). I love TV and films, particularly Sci-Fi and Dark Comedies, and I'm also a big wrestling fan; everything from WWE to local indie shows. Also I'm a sucker for a good RTS game, open-ended games and creative games, and also pretty much any game that is just beautifully made. I've started a Battle Log (which can be found here) which you're more than welcome to read / reply to! I'm looking forward to starting the next 4-week challenge soon, and I'm already prepped and raring to go. So, what would be your top tips for newbies? What kinds of goals are you aiming for? And are there any there any other crochet-loving, wresting fanatics on the board (its a pretty odd combo I'll admit XD)? TTFN, Blethan.
  2. Hey guys! For those of you whom I did not meet in my introduction post, I'm Ratynda. I'm a recent college graduate (almost a year now! ) and adult life has given me the opportunity to re-evaluate a lot of perspectives I had in college and even before. Historically, I settled for the middle road and only kept a normal amount of effort up in school, work, relationships, and exercise. With this new opportunity, I want to turbo-charge my efforts in developing myself in these areas and more. I've been particularly stressed lately about my career path, as I never really was able to bring myself to decide on one and that fact, combined with my current miserable job that I got very shortly after my graduation, have made for a very anxiety-ridden past few months. Some of the career ideas that I have involve a lot more presence and a lot less shyness than my current, level-one self has, so In making my challenge, I want to address a selection of these issues at once. First and foremost though, comes my health! Main Quest: Develop discipline and overcome shyness, while contributing to my larger goal of finding a calling My First Goals: 1. Perform structured weightlifting workouts twice a week and one yoga session a week 2. Apply for two new jobs 3. Find time to stream a game online, with or without friends, twice 4. Reach out to 3 new people that I wouldn't have before For my first challenge, I want to keep the goals simple and realistic to follow, then build from there. These are small things I can do that will force me to take strides in things I am uncomfortable with. Can't wait to see my results!
  3. Hi everyone! I've been lurking on the Nerd Fitness website for a few weeks now, so it's about time I joined I have a habit of writing essays, so will try and keep this short(er)... I'm 27 from Sydney Australia, working full-time in university admin and completing postgraduate studies part-time. I have many hobbies including D&D, NSOing for roller derby, music (I'm learning the shamisen at the moment but play viola, violin and a few others), Japanese language/culture, video games/MMOs and lots more. My husband is going to be trying out some health changes in the next few weeks (we're both overweight), and I'm also keen to try to make some of my own and stick to them so I can support him too. We're also really hoping to try and have kids in the next year or two, so that's probably our big quest goal in becoming healthier. However, I have a few things that make my fitness goals a bit tricky - three chronic immune diseases being Type 1 Diabetes (insulin pump), Coeliac Disease and Necrobiosis Lipoidica Diabeticorum (yeah...only google that if you like zombie gore, haha). Some good news though - for the first time in 22 years of having Type 1, my hBA1C has consistently been below 7 for about a year now, however it's come at a bit of a cost weight-wise (I've put on about 10-15 kilos) and am in a pretty crappy headspace about it (plus having a random stranger ask when you're due doesn't help either...#notpregnant) We're also living with my in-laws to save for a house, which throws another curveball into the mix. I just want to find something that sticks and helps me become healthier and happier: a few years ago when I joined a gym I got to under 100kgs (though my diabetes and overall health was terrible during this)...I'd love to get back to being under 100kg if I could and not risk my health like last time. At this stage, I'm planning on doing my first 4 week challenge during the challenge 9 timeframe, as I'm going to be overseas in Japan for a music camp prior. I'm really eager to hear from anyone who also has a couple of immune diseases and how you manage - having that support would be such a motivator. Where I grew up, the only other Type 1 Diabetics I knew were both personal trainers and extremely slim, so I haven't had the chance to meet Type 1 Diabetics who struggle with their weight like I do. Nice meeting you all and looking forward to sharing this journey with you
  4. Hi There! I'm Ratynda, and I couldn't be more of a newbie if I was just born. It's been years since I have overcome my shyness to join a forum of any kind, so I'm already one step ahead! I started reading Level Up Your Life about a week ago and immediately felt drawn to the philosophy of re-framing life as an adventure worth having, so I couldn't help but sniff out more info. Several sniffs later, here I am! Over all, I could best describe my life to now as astoundingly normal in almost every way. I've always been a big gamer and had tried several fitness pursuits that ended up in the dump. For years I have lifted weights on a wavering but consistent basis, to some not-to-be-sneezed-at results, but ultimately I have never achieved the drastic results I used to dream of. This trend sort of carried over in my life as I sunk deeper and deeper into an MMORPG-shaped hole over my late college years and fell back on several physical, mental, and interpersonal skills that I could have - and should have - been learning. Now that I'm graduated, I'm at my next threshold: I can either settle with my bland office starter job and a slow burnout of shallow relationships and hobbies, or I can dive head first into adventure and work towards improving and re-defining everything that I am. Can you guess which one I chose? Today, I live by two major mottos: "Do everything with intention" and "Let yourself be a prince before you become a king". I remind myself every day that I must actively participate in everything life offers, but also that I am allowed to be young and let myself discover new things without expecting myself to have perfected everything. Of late, I have re-ignited a fire for health and have branched out to try a number of different realms of fitness including yoga, meditation, weightlifting, and some weekend cardio. I may not know my exact path or destination yet, but I will make an adventure out of discovering it, working hard to be the best version of myself, and making plenty of like-minded friends along the way. Hopefully Some of you guys feel the same!
  5. Hello! I promised myself to write a Big Why when I started to join the rebellion, and I have forgotten about it. And then I realized - after joining a challenge, starting daily log and a thread about Gout...I have not introduced myself to the forums. So here is my Hello and my "Big Why" well, it is not a really "Why"..but it is an inspiration I received just awhile back. And that inspiration has further pushed me to change myself for the better - physically and emotionally. to get over the issues I have on my body, appearance..and just overall confidence. Beware though..it is a long read - 700+ words long so I will redirect you to my blog where I have posted it Link: https://ronroen.com/2017/09/03/insecurities-hating-myself/ ...And I hope that you will get inspired along with me...and/or help me, teach me and make this change a reality for me. Thank you!
  6. Hi there, I'm Whimsy. I turned 26 years old this year and something about that I guess brought forth the fact that I allowed myself to just survive and not really live my life. What's worse is that I find myself turning into the sort of person, I have never wanted to be. That's my wake-up call and my motivation for this journey I'm determined to start and see through till the end. That's my BIG WHY, but other than that, I want to become a competitive pole dancer. I big part of me still can't quite believe I can achieve that but I have written it and I allowed myself to admit it and I guess that's a start. Wishing everyone success in their journeys.
