  1. My name is Sean, I'm 48, getting back into exercise. I'm a homebrewer and love electronic gadgets. I have been working out for a few years, but never consistant. I always want to look good for summer, but always fail, I'm hoping to change that this year. This is my first challenge, so I kind of went with the guide for some of these. The first is to eat a salad at work, eat oatmeal at breakfast at work and no energy drinks. The fitness will be the gym 3-4x a week Level up my life will be to meditate 5 minutes a day. So here is my list Oatmeal for breakfast at work Salad for lunch at work No energy drinks Meditate 5 minutes a day Go to the gym 3-4x a week This is a small list, but it's my list and I feel is doable. I have some bigger goals in 2018, pay off credit cards and vehicles, buy another rental property.
  2. 1st Post - I picked up some extra lard when I quit smoking and a self defense line (see my topic title). Currently eat vegetables, lean meats, but not getting the performance out of this because I eat other stuff as well (processed foods, sugar) and don't control my intake amounts of good but high calorie stuff (nuts, etc) and what I am learning are bad (grains). No real exercise plan either, as much as I want to BS myself, mowing the lawn isn't really exercise. I expect to learn and implement much about eating and exercise from Nerd Fitness. Goal is to be in shape enough that I can get back to the Rockies for downhill skiing and be able to compete more effectively in USPSA.
  3. Hi fellow nerds, I'm a geeky middle-aged Mom of two teenage boys, married to another geek, and generally quite happy with my life. However, it's high time I get back into shape. I'm glad you all are here, and I'm hoping to find some online friends for mutual goal support. I've never been a skinny gal, but I did a lot of hiking, cycling, and some weight lifting in my younger years. About nine years ago, I had a herniated disc in my lower back. After the operation, I never quite got my back and core muscles whipped into shape. I'm currently 20 lbs overweight, and without much strength or stamina. Too much exertion sends me into back spasms, and I'm laid up for days. I am starting this summer, but am going to be advancing my goals with caution. My long-term goal is to be able to be fit enough to do real work on the homestead we're moving to next year. I'm starting with daily walks to strengthen my back, and what I can do of the beginner's body weight workout twice a week. I welcome any advice, words of encouragement, or good jokes.
