  1. Hello again, does anyone remember me? I skipped the last challenge and wasn't that much online the last 2 months. Just needed some time off. There was a lot going on in my life and I needed a lot of time for RL. As you may remember I applied for Ninja Warrior Germany last year. After the first invitations went out at the beginning of Feb I thought that's it, just one casting and you are not invited. I was a bit sad but since I had a sports break for 2 months (elbow, psychological stuff*) and I gained some weight (7kgs, mostly fat) so I was good with it. Then I had an appointment for two new tattoos at then end of Feb and guess what? The evening before I got the invitation for the casting on 23 March. I needed to have a sports break again because of the tattoos (1,5 weeks) so I just started training for the casting last week. Friday the 8th. I had an appointment with a personal trainer in my bouldergym (where the casting will happen) and he told me what exercises would happen and we trained for an hour. After that I couldn't move for 4 days because I was so sore So I was in the gym on friday to train swinging on a bar (and landing 3m away), hangling and stuff like that. And some bouldering. It's really hard after that long break. Friday I was in the "JumpHouse", a trampoline park where you can also do a Ninja Warrior Parcour. That was fun but I am sore again So, long story short: What is this challenge about? It'a about the casting on Saturday. But not only this, it is also about having fun with doing sports again. I watched some docus about Crossfit and also Weightlifting and want to check out some new sports. In Germany (and parts of Europe) we have a so called "Urban Sports Club" where you can have a membership (S, M, L, XL) and with this can exercise and visit (in) alot of different places, like gyms, boulder gyms, swimming pools, yoga studios etc. I think I might check this out. Also I want to think about eating and that stuff. IE, what I think of my body, why I gained weight so quick etc.. Why I get these binges. I've learned a lot of stuff about myself during the past few weeks, like be myself and don't think too much about what otheres might think. Stuff like this. I questioned a lot of what I do at the moment (e.g. minimalism, eating, hobbies) and already changed some things. And last but not least I also registered a side business in Feb, so I have to work on that too (Positioning, what exactly do I want to offer etc). I am not sure, if I have smart goals for that, will think about that today. Because I know, goals can make me go crazy (psychologically). But maybe I just rename them. I read the book "mini habits" at the moment so maybe I will rename my goals to mini habits. We'll see. And now I will read aaaaaaaaall the posts and threads I missed out the last week. *sort of an eating disorder, binged sometimes, not good
  2. Hello Rangers! I ran with this group for a while when I first started writing on this site, and I have come back since I am working on some more agility based training starting this week So this decision started with a random conversation with the SO, and a groupon for a ninja warrior gym close by to my house. I have lifted heavy for at least 2 full years, and competed (placed 2nd overall) in a strongman comp late last year. Since then I have kind of been floating a bit, with not much direction and waning motivation. My body really likes to gain muscle, and really likes to keep a hold of every fat cell that exists at the same time, so I need to add some more movement and high intensity stuff to get moving in the right direction. Goal 1 - Go to ninja school! I have 6 classes at the ninja gym, use at least 1 per week for this challenge to see if it's something worth paying for monthly. Goal 2 - Continue Strength Regime I still need to be strong, and I have a routine I want to keep up while trying out the new gym Goal 3 - Consistent Macro Counting While I may be going back to keto at some point I need to stick with my current diet plan for this challenge. Counting macros, especially on the weekends is something I really need to get consistent in. Goal 4 - Track Metrics Take my picture and measurements every damn Saturday morning, and weight daily...... I missed out on zero week, so I am hitting the ground running with ninja warrior gym tonight!
  3. Hi Nerds! I found this forum because it's an "epic quest for awesome" for the desk jockeys, nerds, and average Joe's. I'm an average Joe working my way up through the ranks in the American Ninja Warrior competition. I started my journey a month ago and now looking for support from people to help me through this process. It's a long road ahead to qualify, soooo I'm going to be posting my progress. I will be sharing everything fitness. Those will include what I'm digesting on a daily to keep my fitness up. What's hurting (i.e. grip strength, ego, soul...). I'll share my journey every step of the way that relates to health and fitness to hopefully inspire others to do crazy stuff because, who wants to live a "normal" life? Feel free to follow me on my YouTube channel for my "epic quest" to qualify: http://bit.ly/noobsvsninjas Here's my latest episode of my fails. http://bit.ly/noobsepisode4
  4. Hi Everyone I always say, the third times a charm, so here's to hoping my 3rd battle log will survive where the other 2 have failed. Honestly, it's been over 6 months since I touched my last one, and back then I was a very different person. Back then, I was weak. A shell of the Werespartan I have transformed into. My name is Ryan. I've gone by Wolf since I joined the boards back in September 2012 but most people like to call me Wolfie . I'm married to the love of my life, Heather, and we have 3 beautiful, handsome boys of our own: Racer, Declan, and Orin. We also just added two additions to the family, Fury and Ruby, our new femaile fancy rats. We've only had them since last Friday, but I'm totally digging them. Fury, short for Imperator Furiosa is my girl, she's very adventurous and curious. *insert pic of Fury* Then there's Ruby, short for Ruby Red, our albino white and light blonde streaked girl. She's still a little timid and shy, but we're working on that. Most people that know me, know that I'm high energy and a BIG dreamer. In fact, the name Wild Wolf came from one of the Ranger guild leaders, Mr. Dark_Raider himself. Basically, Wild Wolf is a Mad Max post-apocalyptic type movie where the sun goes black and one man has the power and energy to sustain life and balance..that man is Wild Wolf. Production and shooting will begin one day soon, so be on the lookout for that! Some of my dreams include but are not limited too: Try out for American Ninja Warrior sometime in MarchJoin the Spartan Pro TeamBecome a Spartan Trainer an/or get Onnit Certified and/or MovNat and/or Crossfit Gymnastics/Crossfit basics lvl and/or ALL THE ABOVEOpen my own gym/boxWrite a couple books and get them published, then work on getting those books made into movies and video gamesStart my own blog-get a bazillion followers and get paid to do what I love-talk, bullshit, workout, motivate, and help change lives. There are other dreams and massive goals I want to achieve but that's a good starting point. With 2016 fast approaching, here are some goals at the forefront coming into whats looking like will be a GREAT year. Get to the next round of the Ninja Warrior thing on Feb. 6th (at Obstacle Warrior)Try out for Quidditch team on January 16th. (I MADE THE LIST!!)Run Warrior Dash with Tanktimus the EncouragerDo the GoRuck Winnipeg next summer with some fellow RangersRuck 1000 milesDo 6500 pullupsDo 10,000 push-upsJoin a specialty gym: Obstacle Warrior, Title Boxing, CrossfitThe main use for this battle log will be posting my current, ongoing stories as well as getting back on track with my workouts. As of right now, I have 5 entries written of a werewolf story called Urban Wolf. They are about 3 pages for each entry, but this was a huge part of my last challenge for 2015 and I want to keep this bad boy going. I will make sure and put some place markers for that story where I can continue updating and adding on. Then, there's another couple stories I'll have as place markers to work on at the same time. I figure, instead of putting one thing on hold, let's just chip away at all my great ideas and see what happens. Growing as a writer has been a fun and challenging experience but I love a good challenge and I'm ready to finish some stories and self publish if I have too! I have an audible account with Amazon and listen to audible books frequently. That is something else I want to do more of-listen to more books-because this in turn directly relates my writing. The more I hear these badass, well written novels, the more it fuels me to finish my own. I'm excited to be able to share my writing with you guys and I'm looking forward to kicking the assery that is laziness and get back to wolflean status. Bartitsu is something I've been dabbling in on and off for the past year, and that's been fun. Bartitsu is a martial arts much like MMA that uses a cane for self defense along with your regular arsenal of kicks, punches, elbows, knees, and the occasional head butt. I have both Volumes of the Bartitsu Compendium that can basically help me learn the lost art of Sherlock Holmes. Check out http://www.bartitsu.org/'>http://www.bartitsu.org/ for more info. However, I have a hickory knob'd Vigny cane from Purpleheart Armoury as well to practice with, but, that is something I will play around with weekly. I also have a few LARP swords from http://www.calimacil.com/ that I like to play around with. Swords are my thing. Being a Ranger, I would love to be proficient with the bow and learn how to use one to its full advantage, but I am good with a sword. One day I will own this bad boy. It only feels natural based off the name and the given fact that I was a born swordsman and a formidable duelist. My cousins and I like to mess around with these type things and I'm always coming out on top. I'm not cocky, just confident . I'm truly excited about this battle log and the possibilities of what it will become. Ok, let's get to writing and working out like a wild wolf! Wolf
  5. Gotta do some more moving. I didn't perform at the level I wanted to during the last challenge because my desire to be more awesome lost to the temptations of video games. Not my proudest time. I think I've got most of it out of my system though, as long I don't do something stupid like buying a new game. This challenge's goals will be very similar to the last one just minus the sucking. And as always, the end game goal is Ninja Warrior Grand Champion. Goal 1: Last time I said I'd exercise at least 5 days a week, 7 if at all possible. During this time, I settled for "good enough" too many times, only doing 5/7 days even if there was no reason not to exercise the other 2 days aside from just being a lazy butt. This time the plan is to exercise 7 days a week unless I have a darn good reason not to. Exercising can be anything outside of my dailies like climbing, Muay Thai, parkour practice, random cartwheels and pullups; whatever. Goal 2: My progress towards my 1 minute bridge, stand to stand bridge and handstand pushup over the last challenge was negligible, I might have even regressed. For that reason, I'm kicking it up a notch or 6 this challenge. These targets are being incorporated into my dailies now. I'll work on my handstand pushups every time I work on handstands even if it's only doing a single set. I'll also do some form of bridge work every single day. Goal 3: Although I had "acceptable" adherence to my targets of paleo meals last challenge, the majority of the rest of my dinners were complete crap, worse than the average before so I'm changing things around a bit. Initial target will be eating 5 paleo meals per week, can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Add +1 meal per week every time I hit my target. Goal 4: I haven't been working on my Pathfinder campaign nearly enough. Over the last 6 weeks, I don't think I completed enough content for a single session. This one is going back to my targets from 2 challenges ago, gotta work on the campaign every week. Minimum requirement is 5 hours per week but exceeding by an hour or 10 is okay too. Daily goals: Do diamond pushups every day, try to do 1 more than the day before every day. I'll change to another type once I do 60 in a day. My current best is 55 but some days I don't hit my target so I may not finish in just 5 days. Once I can do 60 I'll pick some other kind of pushups and see how many I can do, then work up to 60 if it's less than that. Other dailies are working on handstands and handstand pushups every day, work on doing a bridge in some way every day, do 30 minutes of squatting every day and stretch. I'm expecting this challenge to be a fun one too. I realise some of my goals seem like it'll be hard to meet targets and I'm okay with that. I'll do my best to reach them and it's no big deal if I don't. The only thing that's not okay is letting video games, anime or manga take priority over improving myself as long as there's nothing stopping me.
  6. It occurred to me that the land of the prophecy is across a big puddle so I'll build a bridge to the other side. This challenge's new target is working on my bridge. I want to be awesome at them. My current stats: Bridge: I can get into one but can't hold it for more than a couple seconds. Running: Usually takes about 25:30 - 26:00 minutes for 5k. My best recent 5k was 5.02km in 25:17 at an average pace of 5:02 min/km. Handstands: Usually last about 1-3 seconds, best is 6 seconds. Handstand Pushups: I can do up to 6 box pike presses or I can do a handstand pushup if I only lower about 5 inches (based on feel, not measured.) This is almost halfway as my arms are pretty long so my head should be around a foot off the ground. Goal 1: Be able to hold a bridge for 1 minute. Bonus: Perform Stand to Stand Bridge. I'll make a point of working on my bridges in some way at least 3 times a week. Goal 2: Get my 5k time to 23:00 or less. I'll be running 3 times per week to meet this goal. Goal 3: Be able to do one handstand pushup. For this I will workout 3 times a week. Goal 4: Have my Pathfinder campaign ready for play by the end of the 6 weeks. I'll spend at least 4 hours every week working on this campaign. Bonus Dailies: Work on holding handstands for 5-20 minutes every day; target is 10 seconds. Do pushups every day adding 1 a day; tomorrow I'll be doing 34. Stretch every day. Still working on the 30/30 squat challenge so I have to do 30 total minutes of squatting every day; my goal here is to be able to hold a squat in a resting position with my feet on flat ground, right now I can't hold it without my heels elevated about 2 inches. Another old habit that needs to be maintained is eating a decent dinner (includes protein and at least 2 fruits and vegetables) at least 3 night a week.
  7. My last challenge mostly went well except for the number of serious workouts I did, that was the biggest thing I was unhappy with. I'll be putting a greater amount of effort this time into getting those done no matter how much I don't feel like doing it even if it means I only do a single set of pushups and nothing else, just gotta do something. In other news, I've only done a couple runs in the last couple months, both of which were 5km and took me almost 29 minutes and I'm really not happy with that so my main target in this challenge is improving that time. My main quest, or the prophecy, is still that I must eventually conquer Mt Midoriyama in Japan on Ninja Warrior. Goal 1 this challenge is to run 3 times per week with any combination of 5k runs, 10k runs, interval training, hill sprints, shuttle runs or whatever else I feel like doing as long as I get out there and run. My target is beating my personal best for the 5k run and finishing in under 24 minutes. I'm planning on doing a 5k race in May and I want to come in first. (My longer term goal is finishing in under 20 minutes but I'm not sure exactly how far I can improve my time in 6 weeks.) Also, if I can't do the runs for some reason (like right now, there's about 6 inches of snow and it isn't stopping) I'll find some alternative like DDR or skipping for a comparable amount of time, or if I have no other option, run on a treadmill (ugggggh...) Goal 2 is to continue doing body weight exercises 3 times a week getting in some pullups, pushups, squats and core exercises (possibly others if I come up with something else I want to do.) Just going climbing doesn't count unless I legitimately go hard enough to totally wreck myself with that alone. Goal 3 is to keep up my handstand practicing everyday. My goal by the end of this challenge is to be able to do one complete wall handstand pushup (touching my nose or chin to the ground before getting all the way back up) and being able to do a free standing handstand for 10 seconds. Properly doing my pushups in the body weight workout will surely help with this. Goal 4 is no longer decluttering, I have reached a point where I'll have my room where I want it with just a few more hours of cleaning/organizing and the rest of the house will come with time so I'll trust myself to maintain this habit of making progress towards that without it being a primary goal. One of my dreams is designing a video game at some point in my life but for now I'll work towards that by designing something with a few less steps, I'm going to create a Pathfinder (D&D) Campaign to play with my friends. To this end I'll devote a minimum of 2 hours per week but I'm okay with getting lost in it and those 2 hours being 8 or 20. Stretching was a goal for the last few challenges but I'm finally confident that I can once again maintain the habit of daily stretching without the need for that.
  8. A little late but here I am once again, ready to challenge myself move toward the prophesied land. In accordance with the prophecy I need to increase my balance and I really need to increase my strength in my arms. For the first time in a while I'm setting a goal for the end of this challenge rather than simply having multiple tasks to accomplish during the challenge. My current target is the handstand. Currently I can do a wall plank at around a 45 degree angle for somewhere in the area of 30 seconds. I am going to be able to do a wall handstand for a full minute within the next six weeks and if I finish early I'll try doing a free standing handstand for 10 seconds. Targets are subject to change if they are deemed too easy or too hard. Towards this end, I will be working on my wall handstand every single day no matter what even if that only means going at it for a minute, or even doing a single 30 second wall plank. This is goal number 1. My main quest, my end game goal is still conquering Mount Midoriyama in Japan on the Ninja Warrior course. That's way off though, perhaps years off which is why I'm setting minor targets along the way leading to the big one to keep me motivated along the way. Goal 2 is to work out seriously 3 times a week. My target here is being able to do a single set of 5 pull ups with an extra 30lbs hanging off of me. I know I can do 8 max with an extra 10lbs right now and I haven't tried increasing that in a while. I don't know if this is a realistic target but I am setting my sights high because I'm been putting up with doing good enough for too long and it's time for excellence. Goal 3 is stretching every single day like last time. This only requires about 30 minutes per day so I never have a good excuse for not doing it but I still haven't ever been able to keep it up consistently for even 2 weeks. I will change this. Goal 4 is eating a minimum of 3 decent meals per week that involve a decent source of protein and at least 2 decent fruits or vegetables. (There aren't many fruits or vegetables I wouldn't count, basically iceberg lettuce). Goal 5 is to spend at least 1 hour per week clearing out the clutter in my life, especially in my own room. Now I need to go to bed so I'll post some updates tomorrow.
  9. My most recent challenge, if I'm being perfectly honest, went much worse than I expected it to. I got lazy, and I screwed up. This time I'm going to fight as hard as I can against the laziness that's dominated my life until now. In accordance with the prophecy, this time I'll get it right. Let's get right to it. Goal 1: Simple, just exercise three times per week as a minimum. These have to be workouts where I seriously work some part of my body to the limit so that I'm actually gaining something from it. If I do more than three any extras are allowed to be more leisurely but of course working harder is preferred. Potential stat gains: Variable, depending on what I focus on. I'll put 5 points on the table for this goal to be divvied up. Goal 2: Eat at least three proper dinners every week. Sandwiches don't count unless they include at least one ingredient I cooked myself (eggs don't count). The dinner has to have a decent source of protein and at least one green vegetable. Con: 3. Goal 3: Do some sort of either climbing or work out with real weights once per week. Str 2 Dex 1 Sta 1 Goal 4: This goal will once again be to declutter my life since I didn't actually do it at all last time. Weeks one and two require an hour each, the following four weeks each require two hours.Wis: 3.
  10. During my first challenge I leveled up as a Ranger, but during that time I saw an important prophecy that told me what I need to do from now on, and the nature of the ultimate goal I must strive toward. In accordance with the prophecy, my main quest is to become a Ninja Warrior Grand Champion. I know this is crazy. I know this isn't a 6 week or even a 6 month goal. 6 years would be a lot closer. I don't care how long it takes though, I am willing to commit to this and I will never stop moving towards this goal as long as I live. During the last challenge I started watching a lot of videos from different Ninja Warrior events and basically fell in love with it. From this challenge onward, any fitness goal I set will be keeping that final goal in mind and moving me closer to it. In accordance with the prophecy, the first goal is to continue the BBWC (Beginner Body Weight Circuit, my slightly modified version I used in my first challenge) from my Ranger training as it will keep moving me in the right direction. I will continue increasing the reps/difficulty on a weekly basis to make sure I keep benefiting from it and keep getting better. I'll be doing two of these workouts per week, perhaps more once I get deeper in and find out what I can handle. Gain: 3 Str 1 Sta Goal two is to do at least one more specialized training session per week, focusing on balance and the most basic of parkour basics. This workout will be (hopefully, haven't tried it yet so we'll see) an hour long and combine stuff like walking on fences for balance, trying to do a free handstand, learning how to do a parkour roll, and learning how to vault starting with a safety vault. Gain: 3 Dex 1 Str The third primary goal is to keep it fun! At least once per week I will be taking part in some kind of social physical activity like basketball or tennis, throwing a baseball/football/frisbee around, going swimming with friends or some kind of adventure like climbing a mountain (though not necessarily always something of that level). On the off chance that all my friends suck and I can't get any of them to join me even once for a whole week, I may just go swimming or shoot some hoops by myself. Gain: 2 Cha 1 Sta The prophecy also told me that in order to complete this difficult main story quest, I need to remove some of the distractions that are always around me. My side quest is to "declutter" my life. This includes cleaning my room, cleaning other parts of my house and keeping it all clean, organizing my things in an orderly fashion, getting rid of things I don't need, stuff like that. This is something I've struggled to do properly for years, so I'm going to start small but make a point of getting it done every week. For the first 3 weeks I will devote just 1 hour cumulatively per week to decluttering and 2 hours per week in the last 3 weeks. These hours can be spread across as many days as I want as long as they get done between Monday and Sunday. I may change the numbers depending on how it goes. Gain: 4 Wis Posted on my wall is now a piece of paper with the declaration: "I will be a ninja warrior grand champ! I will be able to get anywhere using only my own body." I will make sure I look at this reminder at least every morning, maybe multiple times per day.
