  1. It is true, my fellow nerks (that’s a combination of nerd and dork, for those of you not in the know), I have indeed decided to make the journey from Hobbiton to Mount Doom! I started right after Christmas, and am already 4.89 miles into my journey. Which I know isn't huge when stacked up against the 1,779 miles that the trip entails, but it’s a start, and that’s what counts. I’ll be recording my journey here, and it probably won’t be very interesting and will definitely include lots of complaining, but I need somewhere to keep track of everything, so why not broadcast my personal information all over the Internet? Because, I mean, come on, when has that ever backfired? And I’m going to post all my back Evernote entries that I created in December so that there’ll be a complete record of everything. Okay, so some basic rules: 1) Not all walking counts. Only exercise or walking that was intended to count counts. So walking from my apartment to my car doesn’t count, but intentionally choosing to walk across campus to get from one class to the next instead of driving does. Unless I’m in a really bad mood. If I’m in a really bad mood, any walking I choose counts, so long as it’s been recorded on the pedometer. If it’s not recorded, too bad for me. Also, tangent, but does anyone know a good pedometer app? The ones that get the best reviews and are at the top of the list on the Google Plus store all have time limits on how long they’re free. I don’t need a GPS, or a calorie counter, or any of those other fancified features. I just need it to count my steps. 2) I have to record everything. I want proof after this is all over that I actually did it. Who knows, maybe I’ll make a scrapbook (I won’t) or something. But either way, I need to have something to see at the end. Plus, writing about it will keep me accountable. Okay, so I think that’s it. I’m sure I’ll come up with some more rules along the way, but, for now, I bid thee adieu. Allons-y and Geronimo, y’all; I’m going on an adventure!!! See there, I added it at the end. Just wanted to make sure y’all’re paying attention.
  2. Alright, my fellow Rebels, I’m back. And a little late. Sorry about that. I've been sick and lazy; no excuses. Anyway, this ninja_mermaid is back in gear and ready to rock it out with some badass diet and exerciseness! Last challenge, I was doing great for the first few weeks, then I just bombed. Seriously, y’all, I backslid so far it was embarrassing. But all that will change this challenge. I’m determined to level up, and there isn’t anyone or anything that’s gonna stop me! I joined a gym, so that I can figure out exactly what I need to be doing to get myself in shape, and so I can have the equipment to follow through. I also got a bunch of healthy food and am going to start eating right. And I’ve decided to walk to Mordor this year. Or as far as I can get past the half-way point, and then carry on into 2015. Either way, I’m going to be starting a thread and documenting the entire thing. Anyone who wants to join me is more than welcome to; I mean, come on! Who doesn’t want to be part of the Fellowship? The Fellowship, y’all! So, my goals: My main quest is the same as last challenge. I want to lose at least ten pounds, but more is always better. I had to go to the doctor earlier this week for this stupid cold and I weighed in at 190. Which is not good. I have no desire to ever be over 200 lbs again; it would be a serious morale sucker punch. My three mini goals are 1) Exercise at least 20 minutes a day, with the understanding that the 20 minute minimum is only to be utilized in emergencies. I need to be working out at least 30 minutes most days. Previous challenge, I know, but still important. 2) Shower at least five times a week. I know it’s really gross to think about someone not showering every day, but, honestly, I’m not the greatest at the whole personal hygiene thing (bi-polar and depression), and I want to change that. I really want to be showering and really taking care of myself every day by the end of the six weeks. 3) Take my meds on time, every day. That was a goal from last challenge too, but it’s so important that I wanted to keep it as well. And this includes eating breakfast, since I can’t take my morning meds on an empty stomach. Also, I’m Life Questing it this time around. I have to go to all my classes this semester, unless I have a legitimate – repeat LEGITIMATE – reason. If I’m sick, that’s one thing, but not going just because I’m not in the mood is not okay. Kayso, that’s pretty much it. I can’t wait to do this thing! Later, nerds; I’ll see you on the field of battle!
