  1. I tried a free consultation at LA Fitness, but the woman suggested I needed to eat only 920 cal to stay at my current weight...I'm suddenly very confused about all the prior knowledge I had about nutrition! Here's a bit about me and my goals: I'm about 105 lbs, 5'3, about 20-21% body fat (lean body mass about 83 lbs), 17 y/o female. I try and work out near everyday, 6-7 times a week. I do a push pull leg split and do HIIT cardio some days as well. I split my weights and cardio days. I'm admittedly a bit scared of lifting heavy because I work out by myself and have a back injury. I really
  2. I decided to stick with the warriors still. The community is nice and most of my training is still weightlifting so it makes sense. The last few challenges have been helpful. To recap I went from an average of 155-157 lbs to 167-170 in about 15 weeks, whilt my bodyfat estimates (via taping) have remained about the same. In that time I've dealt with depression, learned to prep cook (kinda), picked up swordfighting (love it) and rehabbed a knee injury to a point that I didn't think I could get back to. It feels like gaining this weight has gotten me to a much better state BUT, in getting there m
  3. The story so far.... Years and years ago I started training. I started like many people start, following a bodybuilding type routine, doing dumb things and just generally succeeding despite myself not because of myself. In the intervening years I have been as light as 140 lbs (20 years ago) and as heavy as 270+ (not quite 10 years ago). I've also had injuries including a separated shoulder (20 years ago), ruptured disc (not quite 10 years ago), torn oblique (2 years ago) and plenty of thrown out backs and other minor maladies. In all that time I've spent thousands of ho
  4. Gonna spend another month with y'all building on the foundations of last month. My work hours have stabilized for the most part so itll be a little easier (I hope). Good things I need to continue: drinking water isn't as much a problem so keeping that up will help. I workout fewer days a week now but they feel more productive (I lift noticeably higher volumes) so I'm going to try to keep that system up until I plateau again. Things that need work: I still eat small meals and sometimes skip meals altogether. I need to work up to higher calorie goals and hitting my macros. I'm going
  5. Hey everyone! I'm new to the group and am looking for some advice regarding nutrition. Basically I'm 6"4 used to be chunky and now I guess I'm on the edge of skinny fat and struggle to gain muscle. I've been experimenting with diet trying to find some nutrition dense foods and have come across Quark (Kwarg) in our local supermarket and decided to try it out! I've been eating a 250g pot nearly every day as I'd read it's like yogurt, it's fat free and has around 25g of protein per 250g pot which is great! However I just noticed on the packet today it says contains 8 SE
  6. It's a story as old as time... Respawning! I am starting this challenge a little late, so I will use it to build up good tools and habits, so I can be at 100% for the next challenge! I am really working on myself right now, focusing on building out a better person both at work and in my personal life, and while learning about growth mindset, realized that I had gone into a place where I had neglected my body, and moved back to thinking that "nothing could be changed, I will stay this shape forever, this is my destiny". But how can I hope to change my mental habit
  7. Welcome to the Feast Hall! This is the place to share recipe ideas or if you tried an amazing meal and just want to share the experience with your fellow Adventurers, post about it here!
  8. I used to have a different log, but it's been so long that I literally don't remember what I called it. Since I'm restarting everything else, I might as well restart this too. I'm in Alaska. I'm 31 years old. I'm about to graduate university with a degree in Elementary Education (because nothing gets steps in like chasing first-graders.) I've got a pretty stocky build - being the type to put on both muscle and fat easily. So.....that's the brief. Motivation / Perseverance is a tricky thing for me. I have some fitness goals, but nothing dire will happen if I don't
  9. Hey everyone, I wanted to hear some input on this thought that's been on my mind. I wanted to know if you guys would pay for a health and nutrition coaches if they didn't charge too much? Or would you pay a good amount if they can get you down or up to a desired weight based on what you like to eat?
  10. Hi everyone. I'm Bookish. You can call me Book for short (Browncoats forever!) I found Nerdfitness browsing for "Help me create a workout" and it seemed a lot more inviting than the first option, which was in all caps and kinda....intense... There are some intense people here, but mostly it seems like a place where everyone has fun trying to get healthy and supports each other when it gets hard. My big why is simple. I want to be healthy. I'm almost 40, and I'm losing strength, and I get sick more easily. I'm not a kid anymore, and I can't rely on youth to help me bounce back. It t
  11. My name is Aaron and I am an avid fitness enthusiast and nutrition freak. I started about a year and a half ago on my journey. I started off at 215 lbs and cut down to 163, most losy within about a 6 month time period. I wanted to be in better shape for me and more than anything my family. About 6 years ago I sat in a wheelchair for 2 years due to an auto immune disorder that absolutely obliterated my legs. It was one of the toughest times of my life. Since then I am walking, running, lifting and loving life. I also am medication free for the first time since I was 16
  12. Come one, come all! Hello everyone! These last few months have been tough, but I feel like now it is tougher and I am in need of some additional support, so here I am :D! We all know Christmas can be magical and wonderful and the best moment of the year. As long as it does not generate anxiety, fights with our loved ones and general fear of overeating AND desire to eat just one more slice of that pie that only comes once a year. So I feel I will need to setup goals, accountability and more generally to infuse my life with some FUN, because I want Christmas to be awesome but
  13. This battle log is for March, April, May. I'll review its effectiveness at the end of May. I'm tracking my exercise and calories on my own, but I realized I need a spot to say "I worked out today!" and "I ate all my veggies today!" as well as a place to record my weight loss and other health-related progress. So this going to be a pretty dry thread. Right now, my exercises of choice are walking, aerobics and dancing, stationary biking, and yoga. I track these using the S Health App. My favorite healthy foods right now are creamed vegetable soup, oatmeal with appl
  14. Hey all! Did ya miss me? It's been kinda nuts over here. The 15th was massively important: my graduate school application was due on the 15th, a unit plan I put together for a $150 grant was due on the 15th, I had another application for a $250 grant to an academic conference due on the 15th...everything seemed to be hitting on Monday. But now it's all over! Done with! Completed! I'm freeeeeeeeeeeee! ...okay, fine. I'm free except for catching up in my Spanish class, which I've been doing the minimum for in order to get everything else done. And tying to pas
  15. I've fallen back into old patterns and bad habits, put back on a lot of weight and made myself unhealthy, The Matrix has me again... ...and yet in realization, hope is kindled.. ...so I'm re-igniting my faith in myself and resuming the fight... 100 days to return to the light Goals for 100 days: 1. Count calories and be in deficit at least 5 from 7 days a week. 2. Drink less alcohol (not more than 2 days a week, or if I do within calories) 3. Exercise 3 times a week 4. No refined
  16. I’ve been hit or miss with challenges lately. Mostly it’s getting online to update and just being too lazy to turn on my computer or feeling overwhelmed with updates. I need to get over that. This challenge I’m going a little more complicated but nowhere as complicated as I have in the past. I want to work on a lot of stuff and since I’ll be starting another new job halfway through the challenge I figured I’d really stress myself out. I need to find a good way to deal with stress anyways so I’m going to force myself to get it together. No Duh! routines (Points per each subcate
  17. FRIGEDÆG, AUGUST 03, 2018 | JUST STARTING OUT ODYNNE'S INFO: Former: MMA fighter, lifter, owner of a healthy confidence and a sick 2-pack Current: tired, out-of-shape, overweight, bored, and frustrated normie... but in the process of getting back on track Near future: getting healthier, getting more confident Far(ther) future: getting healthier and more confident than I've ever been PERCENTAGE TO BERSERK MODE: 0.5%
  18. Hallo there! I'm AloeThere. Um...I like silly jokes! I also like taking care of plants and gardening, so I'm very proud of my name. I found NerdFitness through a websearch. I was looking for a healthy community to keep track of my goals without having to fill in forms for every individual food I eat and then waiting...………………. for those forms to load. Or having to follow a step-by-step welcome tour of a website that pushes me in directions I don't want to go in. I liked NerdFitness, because I can see a lot of shared non-fitness interests in this community (Firefly, Star Trek, LotR, Harry Potter
  19. This will be my diary, where i'll keep a minimum organized ( or try) of my workouts routines, diet and relevant things that may influnce my goals My athletic background is in martial arts, where i devoted 12 years of my life to wushu, sanda and brazilian jiujitsu (sadly, this one was short). Two years ago, i tried Crossfit, and oly weightlifting has become my passion since then. I have tried a couple of championships, opens and meetings, and now, i want to give a step further. My new program will require lots of discipline, since it is a 6x days/week, with 9 workout sessions per week. Nut
  20. Hi, my name is Stoney and I’m a serial quitter and shiny-thing chaser. This is my umpteenth respawn here in the forums but fuck it, why not try again? I play roller derby* for my local team in a southern western Australian country town and while that’s been great for my general physical and mental health, I’ve hit a bit of a plateau. And I’m a total perfectionist so I always want to be the best at everything I do. Yay self improvement! That does mean however that I get unmotivated much too quickly and get distracted trying the Cool New Thing™️ t
  21. I’m tired of feeling bad. Bad physically, bad emotionally, bad self-image... not all the time, but enough. I have been a bare, brown, hibernating plant, trying to survive the winter and drawing what nutrients I could from my surroundings. But it has not been enough. I can’t rely on the change of seasons or the warmth or the rain or the love and care of those closest to me to bring me out of this hibernation. If I want to bloom again, it must come from within. ...Ok, that was dramatic. Enough of that! I’m taking a leaf (ba dum tsssss cos plants haha get it? Get it?!) fro
  22. [Pre-Challenge: Complete Mindset Module of the Academy] “OMG Hi! Long time listener - first time caller” Yeeeah… not really. My last 4-week challenge was in April of 2016. A lil over 2 years ago. I’ve hit some snags.. A lot of snags. I’ll spare you all the TL;DR wall-o-text. Long story short, 2016 was a terrible year in a lot of ways… and I thought what I learned and endured through 2016 would lead me to a great 2017. It didn’t. I’m starting from square one now. Story time will happen throughout my journey, sorta like a narrator to put all the pieces togethe
  23. ...is that a try-hard title? I feel like it might be a try-hard title. Oh well. I miss running, and I miss my LotR references, even though I'm not terribly clever with them. So here we go!! Fitness Quest #1 Goal: Run at least 8 times, slowly increasing to running a full mile at a time. Notes: I will have to be a little bit slow starting this, as I just got a tattoo yesterday on my left leg that can't be exposed to sweat for a little while. Hence the 8 times, rather than twice a week. I'd really like to average three runs a week, but between tattoo healing and
  24. Hey all! I'm back! I was in Australia for a month, and let me tell you, it was quite an amazing adventure. I went there by myself. It all started with my online school. I've made high grades in my MBA program and got accepted to the Golden Key National Honors Society a while back. I received an invite to study abroad for a week-long program for Business and Internship. I couldn't afford it, but I proposed it to my boss and in turn my company's CEO. Since we have two branches in Australia, not only did he pay for me to go on my week-long program, but he also paid for me
  25. Hullo there, fellow hobbits and adventurers! As a warning to some who might not be comfortable with this, my challenge will be dealing with a lot of spiritual challenges in my Catholic faith life. If you don't wish to read about such topics, I suggest that you move on to other threads. At the same time, I do value and welcome support from any who wish to join me on my journey! My name is Hollybell Took, and I live in the rolling hills of the Shire, also known as southern Minnesota. I have had a rather tough time during the past few months as I have battled depression, a binge-eati
