  1. Hello! Let's open with the classic flashback sequence... Once, I studied Okinawan Karate (shorin-ryu) and played active racquetball. 5'10", a healthy 170-ish pounds. That was the mid-90s. After an ankle injury, I eventually took up Tai Chi and light weight training. Then it was a rotator cuff injury. Then a divorce. Then a move from Ohio to Seattle. Then a re-marriage. A house. A son. A new office-based job with less movement. A new house. A lot of stress in the office job, too much beer, and a decade of playing World of Warcraft... Today? 47 year old male (48 in November). 5'10". 207 lbs. Decent blood pressure, recently down from "pre-hypertension", no worries on cholesterol and such. According to the motion tracker in my iPhone, I average 2 1/4 miles a day (taking the dog for walks, mostly), and 14 flights of stairs. Still do occasional day-hikes - the outdoors is why I moved to the PacNW. Recently laid off, and pretty damn happy about it (why do you think my blood pressure has come down?) I just did my first Beginner's Bodyweight Workout (15 lb dumbbell for the rows) first thing this morning after stretches and some water - and 2 circuits blew me out. Sitting down with some water to recover, honestly felt for a few moments like I was going to throw up (30 minutes later, fully recovered). Goals? I'd like to get back down around 190 and bring my waistline down from the 40" I just measured (jean-makers lie!). Doable. Oh, yeah, new job wouldn't be bad, either. But I think that's outside the scope here - let's focus on the fitness. --Jim
