  1. Fitnessgurl steps across the border; entering the Land of the Undone. She looks around at the chaos & whips out a notebook & pen with lightening speed. It's time to get started. Smiling grimly, she opens up her notebook; deciding where to begin. This time, she WILL succeed! She writes down her goals: Goals: 1. Exercise 3x/week 2. Eat one healthy meal a day 3. Practice Lectio Divina every day 4. M-F electronics off by 8:30pm 5. Complete daily task list 6. Be creative every day
  2. "I won't give up, no I won't give in 'til I reach the end and then I'll start again. No I won't leave. I wanna try everything. I wanna try even though I could fail." I'm returning after a month hiatus for my next challenge. This song has sort of been my anthem for the past couple of weeks. It makes me smile and gets me pumped up too Here are my goals for this challenge. Goal #1 Physical Activity I would like to do some sort of physical activity at least 6 days a week. I know this sounds like a lot, but it could be as simple as a five minute walk. Out of these six days, at least two should be a little more difficult such as cardio or strength training. Goal #2 Healthy Eating/Meal Prep I would like to prep my lunches every Sunday for the week. As a teacher, I sometimes skip lunch, by cooking my meals for the week beforehand, I hope to prevent skipping lunch. My meals will include a protein and a vegetable. So I should be eating a veggie at least five times a week. Goal #3 Perseverance This is where the song comes in. Realistically, I will have days that I mess up on my goals. I'm really not trying to be pessimistic here, but it's likely that I will at times fall. The issue is when I fall, I beat myself up and get discouraged. When this happens, I'm going to listen to this song, and remind myself that I'm not giving up on myself. Like the song says - "Don't beat yourself up. Don't need to run so fast. Sometimes we come last, but we did our best." Goal #4 Look At The World With New Eyes Now I'm bringing Zootopia stuff in here *Some minor spoilers follow* One of my favorite scenes of the movie is when Judy gets on the train to Zootopia. The amazement on her face as she sees this large city for the first time gets me every time. I want to see the world differently - as a fantastic and beautiful place. So I'm going to search for something beautiful everyday. *End Minor Spoilers* In summary, I'm looking forward to this challenge. Now everyone sing with me "I won't give up no I won't give in 'til I reach the end and then I'll start again. No I won't leave. I wanna try everything. I wanna try even though I could fail. Oh oh oh oh oh Try everything!"
  3. I am Odinson_Rising, and I am not worthy. But I will be. I can't say how soon, but I will be worthy again. My hammer still lies before me, begging to be lifted. Although I can't lift it yet, I can make progress. Let's get this party started. With the last challenge, I focused on "mise en place," the concept of having a place for everything. My focus deteriorated at the midpoint, as it often does, and instead of a victory, I became the proud owner of an opportunity to improve. So here we go. Let's revisit the previous challenge, and this time, let's see what we can do better. THE EPIC QUEST: General: I will become strong enough to survive the apocalypse, and further, I will become strong enough to save my loved ones, to protect them and keep them alive. More specific: By 12.31.16, I will be able to run 5 miles without stopping, be able to climb a rope, be able to do pull ups and chin ups in sets of 5 or more, be able to squat at least my body weight, be able to deadlift at least 1.5x my bodyweight, be able to bench press my bodyweight, and be able to scale a 6 foot wall unassisted. Challenge goals: 1. I will, nightly, lay out all gear that I will need for the next day. This includes work clothes, exercise gear, books, paperwork, notepads, pens, lunch box, literally everything that I’ll be using in the next day. I will have it ready to go before my head hits the pillow. 2. I will, also nightly, lay out my plan for the next day, and place it with my gear. This includes my planned workout, my “big 3” actions for the day, and a basic agenda for how the day is intended to go, overall goals, shopping lists, and anything else that’s pertinent. 3. I will fill (nightly) and carry (daily) water bottles with me, ensuring that I have enough water to meet my current 2L water goal for each day. 4. I will practice Mise En Place in my day to day life, using the landing/launch pad approach, so that my everyday carry (EDC) items are ready for me each morning. It’s time to retire the “where are my keys” game. I suck at it. So there we go. Another challenge brings opportunity for growth. Best of luck, Rebels. Let’s go to work. -Odinson_Rising
  4. I turn 33 this year. And I've been overweight since high school. Currently 265. Highest ever was 284 late last year. I've clearly made progress, but the last couple of weeks I've been slipping again. Any real-world advice on just plain continuing to drop weight. Trying to prioritize diet change over workout plans, because for me, the latter is easier but not a permanent solution, because my eating has remained mostly horrible. Trying a modified low-carb/paleo/caloric restriction type diet. I really like tracking everything with my fitbit charge and myfitnesspal, but those seem more built goal-wise for calorie restriction so that's still a part of my goal. Recently I've been trying to get a little bit more active. Anyway, I'm rambling but I'm coming here to hopefully create some more accountability and inspiration too. Thanks guys!
  5. Hi all. I've been watching the start of another challenge, and I've been debating whether I should join in. My last several challenges have been disappointing: start for a couple of weeks, then quit the next four weeks. Part of me had been thinking about sitting one out so I could take a break from the challenge frenzy. But of course, I've been starting challenges and "taking a break" for the last four weeks. Very disappointing. I'm not going to give up. Since my last several challenges have been abandoned before their mid-way point, I'm not really bringing anything new from the past ones. I just have to do something. I've been going crazy not doing anything. Let's go. PRIMARY QUEST: Move. Consistency. Dance minimum 3x weekly for 10 minutes each. I'm going to a swing dance convention in Los Angeles around Labor Day (early September), and I'm pumped! I expect to learn a lot, so I want to keep myself active and practice what I already know. Get up early on work days Getting up early will help me get stuff done. Out of bed at 5:00 am. Bodyweight work 3x weekly* *This is a very general goal that can include hand balancing, Prasara yoga, and traditional body weight exercises. Some activity in this realm will happen 3x weekly. Practice musical muscles 4x weekly minimum 30 minutes Music is really in my head. I'm dancing all the time, but I also own musical instruments, some of which I've neglected. I played the saxophone in high school and college, and I need to get back at it. I haven't played in a long time, so I'll need to do some embouchure exercises as well. I've also recently inherited an electric organ, which I want to work at as well. So a musical instrument will be practiced 4x weekly. I got inspired by this video: Here goes.
  6. Hi all, I'm new around this sector of the internet. It's nice to see such a lively community combining the realms of nerdherdery and fitness! Anyway, I've tried many times to reach exercise goals on my own to no avail of lasting proportions. Perhaps having the GUI companion to my journey on which I'm about to embark will make a difference, not to mention anyone who should read and offer encouragement (I'll be sure to do the same for you)! A little about me: I'm one of those unconventional stay not just at home daddies who loves computers, web design, long-boarding, and so much more! I'm 25 and have recently relocated to Japan and am undergoing a minor case of culture shock which is why I've decided that now is as good a time as any to put a positive spin on this adventure that I'm lucky enough to be embarking on. MAIN QUEST: Overall purification of the mind and body through meditation, exercise, and healthier eating habits. - Visit 1 Buddhist Temple every week - Insanity Workout 5x every week. - Zero food after 6:00 every night. LIFE QUEST: Increase monetary responsibility by record-keeping. - Record every purchase, no exceptions! MOTIVATION: My family, self respect and the decision I've made to seek out and face challenges. No excuse of the body or mind will hold me back from taking proper action when the time arises. I shall post pictures from our travels as well as a starting point picture of my buddha belly. I'm not really fat or anything I just want to tone it up a bit, ya know? Thanks for reading now it's time to get reading all of your posts. ~c_M
