  1. Welcome to another Roleplaying-by-Post thread! I'm DarK_RaideR and I will be your Gamemaster for this long, hard journey into the grim world of Warhammer Fantasy How to join A fair amount of knowledge of the Warhammer Fantasy world is required, if you are to join. The story will not rely heavily on the players’ familiarity with the setting and clues/explanations will be provided, but you are expected to know at least some of the basic stuff There are 5 career (class) categories available: Academic, Commoner, Criminal, Outdoorsman and Warrior. Each player must make a post and pick a category and a race (dwarf, elf, halfling or human). The category then becomes unavailable for others, so the party has to consist of 5 players maximum. Once you’ve picked your category and race, dice will be rolled and you shall be informed of the two careers available for you to pick. No other stats, character sheets or dice will be involved, the game is meant to be mainly narrative. After each story post, you can write your RP using whatever format you like (bold, italics, colour etc) to differentiate it from out-of-character stuff. Once all 5 players have posted some RP, the story will resume so the pacing is mainly up to you. To make up for the lack of rolls, certain mini-challenges will occur in some circumstances, mainly combat. These challenges may be optional or mandatory, something that will be clarified each time on the challenge description Please note that in a world full of poverty, famine, disease, violence and mutation, there are nasty things around every corner. By joining, you understand that character... alterations and death are a real possibility, whether because of story or poor challenge performance. If you are not happy with your character though (or if faced with death) you can always switch to a new one.
  2. The small hamlet of Two Waters erupted into chaos. Shouting from the streets drew merchants and customers from the shops; shepherds left the flock unattended to see what the ado was about. A man, half dead from his panicked run from the mountains, was shouting in the streets, begging for anyone with a warrior's sword, a ranger's bow, or a wizard's arcane knowledge to come to his aid. "Brightwater!", he shouted, finally collapsing to his knees. "Brightwater will soon fall! The fellbeasts have boiled up from the caves and crags, and are taking the keep!" Brightwater Keep, the castle nestled in the peaks of the Rockheart Mountains, is the seat of power in this small dale. If it is allowed to fall to some dark power, there will be no hope for the poor villages and hamlets at the feet of the mountain. Who will come to the aid of Brightwater? This is an adventure for a small handful of Nerd Fitnessers. Players will define for themselves a variety of "Feats" (detailed below). Beating the different phases of the adventure will require the entire party to complete different kinds of feats. Never Split Up The Party - We finish each phase together. There is no advancing to Phase III, for instance, until the whole party has finished Phase II. The idea is to get each other motivated to move on. For Gold or For Glory - This is only for glory. There are no skill points to be earned, no XP awarded, and the only gold pieces are the ones that remain in-game. Your Feats Are Yours Alone - This adventure (and any subsequent ones I run) will be based on Feats. These fall into the following categories: Endurance Feat - Usually something based on time or distance Strength Feat - Usually something based on poundage Speed Feat - Usually something based on reducing the time required to complete a task. Could also be a dexterity-based challenge Combat Feat - Very individualized. Could be a strength-based feat, a dex-based feat, something in the martial arts or yoga. Healing Feat - A non-physical goal. Could be diet-related, something spiritual or meditative, finance-related. Totally up to you. Every participant has to lay out his or her Feat definitions before we begin. Don't worry about the numbers or being more or less than any other participant. This is something we're doing as a party, but your goals are yours alone. So if my Strength Feat is "Complete a set of 3 pull ups" and yours is "Complete 3 sets of 12 pull ups", that's completely cool. When we get to a Strength-based challenge, I overcome it by completing my Strength Feat (3 pull ups) and you overcome it by completing yours (3 sets of 12). The point is to set appropriate challenges for yourself. If you're ready to answer the call to adventure, and save Brightwater from the fellbeasts, reply below with your Feat definitions! Here's the party: Emyerson (DM, as well as Level 2 Human Ranger)Oramac (Level 2 Sith Warrior-Monk)Ryuu1011 (Level 1 Ranger)cmwanderin (Level 2 Assassin)Teagarden (Level 8 Druid Assassin)Kathrynl (Let me know if you're still interested)
  3. Once more with Gusto! Tried this a while back -- it was not pretty. Gained weight, cut back on water consumption, mangled tendons in both elbows, do I need to keep going with this? Hubby just got blood pressure warning from the doctor... is there ANYTHING at Wal-Mart that isn't loaded with salt?? I had first bloodwork done in prolly 40 years.. Doc said it all looked good EXCEPT the cholesterol levels... BAH! He said I had 6 months to loose a few pounds and pack in the omega 3's and if it didn't go down then, he'd medicate me. (I love this man!!) So I wander back here to make it real. (Y'all are REAL real in this place) Long term goal -- he said 5 or 6 pounds, I'm goin' for the full 32. No time set, really. If I do that then I'll freak out and mess it up. so -- cut the junk and think happy thoughts (and keep hitting the health kiosk @ Wal-Mart to monitor weight and blood pressure.) 6 week goals -- S.M.A.R.T tends to mess me up. I don't need to measure this, if I do it I do it, if not, oh well. 1) keep up with RPG Fanatics story. watch them and work the goals. That group is better than imaginary friends, and I picture everybody just like their thumbnail! If I don't chicken out, Holle will wander in and help out if she can. Sticking with human persona, mostly imbued with "mom skills". My sarcastic son will be at my side, as well. (loosely based on real boy.) 2) do minis here. not sure what that will entail, but it sounds good (and do-able). The guild will be my motivational push. ("Oh look, everybody is walking/doing push-ups/ cutting back on their sugar intake. Maybe I'll try that too.") 3) DIET: Marylu Henner's B.E.S.T., blood pressure D.A.S.H., cut back on cholesterol. Throw in a few Macrobiotic concepts and call it "macaroni." Goal here: lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol for test in 6 months, loose weight. ... learn how to cook again. 4) Do warm-up routine 5 days a week -- at work. Continue with stretches in the morning. Save cardio until test results get back. ("fat chick don't run...") 5) Go to bed by 3:00 a.m. (It has to start somewhere.) so, did I get everything? food, sleep, physical activity, social interaction, Looks good for a start! close enough for starters. Holle Hanksdottir is ready to level up! (I sound like a Power Ranger, or something!)
  4. So it's been a while since I really got on here. I've tried getting back into the swing of things several times this year and bullshit keeps dragging my back down into depression. Ultimately, these have been situations that are incredibly overwhelming, so I don't blame myself entirely, but it's time to kick my own ass once again. Normally my challenge threads have a theme, but this time around I'm going simple. So without further ado: Ravnos' quest for redemption Quest 1 - Be Strong - Hit the gym 3 days a week. No exceptions. No changes. No complaints. Quest 2 - Be Flexible - Yoga every morning, plus an extra session at the end of each workout. Stretch and loosen the muscles. Quest 3 - Be Mindful - Meditate 5 days a week, every morning after waking up, for at least 5 minutes. Five minutes of mindful meditation every morning will help me start my day off better and stay focused to remain on task. Quest 4 - Be Clean - Eat clean, 100% Paleo 6 days a week, allow for one cheat day. No drinking (alcohol) except on cheat day for the duration of the challenge. Furthermore, some friends are moving (sad) and giving us a bunch of really nice furniture they don't want to take with them (cool). I need to clean, get rid of some old furniture and get the house organized to fit all the new, really nice stuff, in. Quest 5 - Be a Tracker - Track food and workouts, budget weekly, plan my week every Sunday and maintain my schedule in order to reform positive habits and routine. That's it. Simple, SMART goals. Time to get to work...
  5. NOTHING IS TRUE, EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED. I have always fought alone. But one man cannot defeat the templar order, so I have joined with my fellow assassins. Together, we will cleanse the corruption from the holy city of Rome. Together, we will forge the Brotherhood. If the title and opening lines didn't give it away, and since this will be my first Assassin Challenge (did my first with the Rangers), this challenge is going to be Assassins Creed themed. Based off of the pure Epicness that is Ezio Auditore. A little backstory, this will be my 2nd official challenge, and since I ended up unwillingly quitting my first one (went to teach at a summer camp without internet) I am going to dominate this one. So far my workout are primarily strength based, trying to loose fat while building up muscle slowly. Mainly weighted pullups, shoulder presses/ handstand pushups, deadlifts, & squats. I've also begun training for the NC Rugged Maniac which is May 16th so I've been trying to get my 5k time down and jog a little bit more. Anyway here are my goals: An Assassin must be able to move fluidly though his surrounding, & let no objects stand in his way: To do this he cannot be caring around any extra weight. Therefore my first goal is to drop 6lbs and/or 2% body fat. (+ 3 CON) An Assassin must be agile with excellent balance and strong stability. Be able to climb and hold his position for long periods of time. So my second goal is to practice handstand training at least 3 times per week, and I will know I've succeeded in this goal if I am able to hold a free standing handstand for at least 30sec at the end of the challenge. (+4 DEX, +1 END) An Assassin must be strong, determined that his way is the truth and motivated to carry out his plan. Thus my third goal is to maintain my strength training workouts 3x per week, while also maintaining an average weekly step total of 10,000 per day. [as measured by my Fitbit] (+3 STR, +2 STA) An Assassin's resources are sometimes his best allies. Money weights us all to the ground so to be truly free he must build up his resources and lessen his burdened of debt. Consequently my final life goal is to pay off extra $500 towards my student loans or $300 per month. (+ 3 WIS) I will begin posting my workouts and some other stuff later today. I am also participating and an awesome new RPG/ accountabuddys group: The Assault on Brightwater, which should be some extra motivation and help towards achieving my goals and I'll let you guys know how its going once we start! So who's ready to join the Brotherhood?
  6. As it is wont to do, life imploded during the last challenge, so I'm just pretending it didn't happen. Onward! Adventure! Excitement! Cthulhu! Join Ravnos on his ninth challenge as he battles demons, breaks PRs and continues on his merry quest for strength, honor and wisdom. Come! Join the merriment! Weep at the tragedy. Cheer on the excitement! Ninth official challenge time. Let's see where we're at with this. I've reached many of the goals I started out on NF with. I've gotten my waist to below 32 inches (and still improving) and I'm dropped my body fat considerably. However, it's time for a change. My focus now is on strength and endurance gains, as well as putting some muscle back on. GAINZ! I, of course, have the continued goals of working toward doing Salmon Ladders, dropping to 8% BF, eliminating stomach fat, squatting 1.5x body weight, deadlifting 2x body weight and OHP, Bench and Row 1x bodyweight. Last challenge kind of fell through the cracks and my life got hectic afterward, preventing me from signing on here... ever. In that time I maintained my paleo diet, participated and defeated my first Spartan Sprint and hung out with the ever-amazing, Teros. As we go into 2015, however, I'm recentering my life around what's actually important, me. This means less time stressing about a shitty job (I did not end up succeeding in my goal of getting a new job by the end of 2014... working on that) and more time on my health and personal goals. So without further ado, here are my quests for the second challenge of 2015 and my return to NF. Quest 1 - One More Rep Continue improving my lifts. My main, main focus this challenge is going to be breaking a 100lb Press. I've been plateaued between 90 and 95 pounds for a while now, and I took nearly 3 months off from the gym, so it's fallen back down to 85... Now it's time to break down my press technique and start making some real fucking progress here. Gym three times a week, no excuses, and a focus on OHP for gainz. Quest completion - 3 workouts, every week. +3 STR. Bonus: OHP 100lb 5x5. Quest 2 - Adapted Paleo I've adapted my paleo diet to improve gains, because I was struggling to stop losing weight. I added milk and potatoes back in (organic milk from grass-fed cows) and I've seen some great results. No fat increase, no gut problems and my weight went back up to 160 and stabilized. SO! the plan is 6/7 days of the week I eat modified paleo. Saturday is my cheat day, were I can have a little sugar, fruit, whatever. I still avoid gluten because it makes my gut very unhappy. Quest completion - follow diet plan 100%. +3 CON. Quest 3 - Nerd Fitness! I have failed miserably at even signing on here to check PMs since October, so it's time to get back on a regular checking/posting schedule here. My goal here is to sign on at least three times a week, update here and check friend's challenges. Let's get the gang back together... Quest completion - +3 CHA Quest 4 - Stop spending so much god damn money Try to recover from blowing some savings. Part of this will be selling some items in my home (comics, Magic The Gathering cards and vinyl). The other part is GETTING A NEW JOB. I've been doing weekly IT training with a friend of mine, so the goal here is to make sure I go every Tuesday and work on my skillz. Plain and simple. Motivation! Quest completion - Increase savings. Do job training, start applying for IT positions. +3 WIS Quest 5 - Turn on endurance I've been ignoring my endurance and conditioning for a while now, and while I felt comfortable doing the Spartan, I know I can make some marked improvements. My goal here is to do some running, once a week. Probably in the morning. I don't mind running in the cold, so we'll get this started soon. So... Quest completion - One run per week, 3-5 miles. +3 END More to come!
  7. Throughout the Five Realms, noblemen and cutpurses alike speak in hushed voices of The Black Aegis, a secretive organization of assassins, rangers, warriors who patrol the land, carrying out missions that only they fully understand. After successfully gaining fame and experience as a ranger, emyerson was invited to join the ranks of this shadowy group. Though no longer a young man, emyerson has proved that he still has some fight in him. "Prove yourself these next six weeks". The mysterious contact sipped from his steaming mug, his bald head gleaming in the flickering lantern light. "and you may yet be a useful ally. We will contact you shortly with your ... assignment.". Time to prepare myself for the next six-week challenge. I've thought a little about my goals for the next one, and I figured it'd be fun to write it in a narrative. My ideas for goals so far: By the end of the challenge, be able to do 3x12 neutral-grip pullups. Each week, I'll work on getting closer to that. Right now I can reliably manage one set of 8. This'll be for STR points.I want to set a step goal. Maybe 70K or 77000 per week? I'm not sure yet on this one.Reach 165 lbs., and maintain that weight to the end of the 6 weeks. I started this year at 178 lbs., and my weigh in this morning was 168. I'm going to also set a goal of not looking at my weight every morning. Maybe three times a week? Not sure yet. I think this goal will split some STA and CON points.I'd like a goal for working on my speed and accuracy in fencing. I'll talk to Coach tonight about what that should look like. DEX for sure. This one might be silly, but bear with me. I shave my head, but I don't always do it as often as I should. It's kind of time consuming, and it's an easy thing to put off. Sometimes I let my hair go for 2 weeks (or more), and it starts looking shaggy. And that really does impact my mood. I feel more energetic and positive when I've just shaved my head (also, Mrs. Emyerson likes my noggin better when it's totally smooth). So I'm setting a goal to shave my head at least once a week. Silly, maybe, but it matters. CHA points. "The Black Aegis", emyerson later mused to himself. "An honor, to be sure, but also a responsibility. Responsibility is nothing new for a Ranger, of course. Perhaps I should start preparing now..."
  8. Months - perhaps even years had passed since the little ship Four Minute Plank had set sail from Hope Anchorage, with the ex-ocelot assassin named Ocelot and her rowdy crew aboard. They had visited numerous islands, found certain treasures but never yet weighed anchor. The crew eventually grew tired and lost focus and interest in the voyage. Ocelot was kept busy all day long, keeping them on target. She picked up a martial arts master and got him to teach them all taekwondo. She distracted them with delicious fruits picked from tropical oases. She held rigging climbing races and long board game evenings. The more mutinous crew members sometimes vanished at night. Her assassin skills were staying honed. One day, an unforeseen circumstance arose. Her crew were sick of her drinking all the water in her mission to drink two litres a day. They were tired of the open sea. They took control of the Four Minute Plank and headed for a coast they knew contained many cruel warlords who lived in gigantic fortresses. Here on a stony beach they left their former captain, and sailed away with her treasure. Ocelot had built the ship with six weeks of solid planking, and now she had nothing but driftwood. She looked up at the walls she stood beside. The stone was cement grey and she could see guns protruding from the spyholes. Among the shoreline rocks she hid until darkness, then crept up to the castle. She slipped in through a side door and came to the servants quarters, where she stole clothes and disguised herself as a maid named Lottie. She was soon given the lowly task of scrubbing floors and a small cell-like room to sleep in. She had never lived amongst a civilisation like this before. Born a wild cat in the jungle, she knew nothing but piracy and hunting her victims. She would have to learn to fit in. She could rely only on herself, her assassination skills and her ability to pass as a servant for the mysterious stronghold - until the day she could answer the questions: where was she? And where was she going next? MAIN QUEST: BODYWEIGHT BLITZ. In a mysterious fortress where only the strong survive, all I have to achieve my quests - and escape - is my own bodyweight and my imagination! Firstly, I want to get my four minute plank back! More than that - I'd like to get up to five minutes! Yes, it's plank goal take two and this time its serious. PLANK STAGES: 1 minute plank = Promotion to washing dishes 2 minute plank = Promotion to waiting at tables 3 minute plank = Promotion to chambermaid 4 minute plank = Promotion to handmaiden 5 minute plank = Promotion to lady in waiting METHOD: The 30 day plank challenge graphic will be my friend! I also plan to do a bodyweight routine of my own design three times a week. No numerical goals - just consistency and putting the time in. If I miss a workout, that week is failed. Every week, a new assassination target will present itself... BODYWEIGHT CONSISTENCY STAGES: 1/6 weeks: Assassinate a cleaver-wielding pastry chef 2/6 weeks: Assassinate a visiting noble who boasted of his brutal deeds 3/6 weeks: Assassinate the cruel, power-crazed housekeeper 4/6 weeks: Assassinate the sadistic chief torturer 5/6 weeks: Assassinate the guard to the royal chambers 6/6 weeks: Assassinate the evil tyrant warlord! I'm also going to stretch daily - that means at least 20 minutes. Each block of days I complete I will reach a new escape route. This will help to define my next challenge theme. STRETCH CONSISTENCY STAGES: 10/42 days: A rope that will get me into the neighbouring castle, where I can at least go unnoticed for a little longer 20/42 days: A key to a door that leads to the dungeons, where I can stir up rebellion among the prisoners 30/42 days: A horse, to attempt an escape 40/42 days: The opportunity to disguise myself as a noble and be installed in my own castle all 42 days: The opportunity to disguise myself as a general and command a small army in a far away campaign MAIN QUEST POINTS AVAILABLE: 3 STR, 3 CON, 3 DEX --x-- SIDE QUEST: ACCOUNTABILITY and ROUTINE. In a complex, undercover situation it is important to keep track of everything that happens and the plans I am making. Therefore I must post to this thread at least 3 x a week, including pictures (I'm a very visual learner, so images definitely help me!). In addition, the fortress operates on strict discipline. To blend in I must stick to the same timetable as the rest of the household. I'll be getting up at 6AM every single day and making sure I am productive in the mornings - getting work done early, exercising, housework, etc. As a bonus I can listen to the Radio 1 Breakfast Show which always puts me in a good mood. These two are linked together into a PASS OR FAIL challenge, as I think its important to stick to them stringently in order to really ingrain new habits. Every day I miss is one day closer to being discovered and tortured... or even executed! 0 weeks failed: 3 EXP. I got away scot-free. That's what careful planning, observation and perfect timekeeping will do for you!1 weeks failed: 2 EXP. Suspicion! I made a small blunder while performing my duties. I have to work extra hard to cover my tracks. Punishment: 30 minutes of crunch variations.2 weeks failed: 2 EXP. Overheard! The guards heard me trying to enter forbidden rooms. I was forced to hide in a cupboard for ages. Punishment: wall sits every day until total accrued time of an hour is passed.3 weeks failed: 1 EXP. I was caught sneaking around and tortured in an attempt to find out what I was up to. Torture: complete 50 burpees every workout next challenge.4 weeks failed: 1 EXP. I was caught red handed and thrown into solitary confinement!5 weeks failed: No EXP. I was caught and sentenced to death. I only just escaped... and the entire castle guard are after me!6 weeks failed: No EXP. I didn't get a handle on the situation at all and was caught and executed. (Lose all points/exp gained from this entire challenge) SIDE QUEST POINTS AVAILABLE: 3 WIS, 3 CHA TL;DR: I'm on a quest to conquer a giant castle, or at least escape with my life. 1. 5 minute plank - following the 30 day plank challenge 2. 3 bodyweight workouts a week 3. Stretch every day 4. Post updates 3 x a week, with pictures 5. Get up at 6am every day and use mornings for good things! Good luck everyone!
  9. Greetings! I'm looking for a handful of intrepid explorers who will join me in attempting to survive the zombocalypse. This is my first try at this so it may be bumpy and I'll be looking for feedback. What's involved I will be boring from a recently published zombie scenario and anyone who signs up will be a player character in the scenario, You will be asked the assign roughly realistic stats to yourself and we'll see just how long you live. I'll post at least daily, often twice or more. I ask that you try to look in and post roughly daily as well. You will begin the game in a home very much like where you live in the magical land of Nerdlandia which may look alot like an American city. We'll go from there. Begin by posting your interest in this thread. I'll type a post tomorrow regarding how you design you character. If you're reading this after we started, that's ok, you can still join in the fun.
  10. Newb here! I've been lurking the forums for a couple days, trying to decide if I wanted to start this challenge thing for surezies. I pre-emptively kicked off my working out and diet changes starting 1/5, just in case. Decided to go ahead and make a post and see where this goes! If nothing else, I'm hoping to make this a place where I can log my progress and vent my frustrations. I've been chubby for as long as I can remember; I'm pretty familiar with many elements of nutrition and working out, I'm just really bad at applying them. I started playing D&D a year and a half ago, and love it tons. My favorite video games are Skyrim and Diablo 3; I'm using those as motivation to level up my actual life. I'm tired of passing on things like hiking because I'm worried that I won't be able to keep up. I tend to set lofty goals and not follow through for longer than a week or two, so I'm hoping to find some accountability here. My goals: 1. Walk to Mordor! I read an article on the site about this today, and I eventually want to get as much walking in as it would take a hobbit to get to Mount Doom and back. I'm going to start walking whenever I can, daily when possible. I particularly want to start doing more walking/hiking in our local natural preserves and unpaved trails, to make it feel a bit more like an oldschool adventure. 2. Go semi-paleo. I'm not going to completely cut out dairy or bread just yet, but I'm working on eating more vegetables every day, and preparing meals at home instead of eating out. 3. I want to train towards the Ranger class (I think). Ranger is the class I lean towards in most games, and I'd love to get to that point irl. I'm starting with the beginner body weight workout every 3 days with interval training or walking in between. 4. Figure out more goals! I'm not great at these. I'm taking it slow, because I don't want to overreach myself. I'm hoping in the next few weeks to come up with some more concrete goals. Not gonna lie, I'm nervous. Something almost always gets me off track when I work towards getting back in shape. But I'm almost 25, and it's time for me to make my health more important. I think this whole thing may be what I need to change my mindset and finally start living better. Any encouragement is super welcome! I haven't really been a part of a community like this in the past, but I want to give it a go.
  11. Hi all. Forgive me if this has been suggested in the past, or if I've posted in the wrong place. I had an idea for a slightly different kind of nerdy challenge we could do here at NF. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Imagine if several people banded together into a virtual adventuring party. They'd set off onto a quest together. I envision there being some prewritten "modules". Here's an example: The Crystal Pools - Queen Belova has tasked the party with retrieving an item of immense power from the Crystal Pools atop Winterborne Mountain. Part I: The party must travel to the foothills of the mountain and ascend to the peak. Each member must run, bike, or walk 5 miles on level ground, then another 3 miles on elevated ground.Part II: Along the way, the party encounters a band of orcs. After the battle, the party must heal. Each member must perform his combat routine*, after which they must each perform the healing routine*.Part III: Once at the Crystal Pools, the party must navigate to the island at the center of the pool to retrieve the item. Each member must perform 3 sets of 10 reps on a rowing machine, and swim 15 laps. Retrieving the item requires each member to perform one Maximum Strength Feat*Part IV: The party, low on rations, must return to the Queen with the item. Each member must make one Diet Feat* You only move on to the next part after the entire party has met the goal. If that happens in one day, great. If it takes a week, also great. If it takes a month, party members can encourage the holdouts to get it in gear. * Healing Routines, Combat Routines, Maximum Strength Feats, etc: These routines would be different for each person. Each party member defines for him or herself what these look like. For instance, I'm a fencer, so my combat routine might be to win at least one fencing bout (or maybe to win one 5-0). The Healing Routine could be a non-physical activity or goal. I enjoy painting, so my healing routine might be something like "Post one new painting online that I'm really proud of". The Maximum Strength Feat should be something that pushes your workout limits. For me, it could be defined as "3 sets of squats, 16 reps each, 200 lbs). Another party member might define the Combat Routine as three karate classes in a week, or a new Free Running routine, or 30 minutes on the heavy bag. The point is, these categories are up to the party members to define for themselves. I could see members of the NF community writing adventure modules for other parties to run through. You could even have an ad-hoc adventure, without a module, where the group takes turns GMing - one week, one member sets the group goal (and the narrative); the next week, another member takes over the story and decides the success factors, and so on. What are your thoughts?
  12. Sorry, this is sort of a cross-post, but I just learned about the suggestion forum. Over here, I posted about a different kind of challenge we could do at Nerd Fitness. It's not meant as a replacement to the 6-week challenges, but rather a supplement, or a kind of "side quest". It incorporates some of the nerdiness that defines this community. The idea is a kind of RPG framework around our workouts. It's great that we have character classes, and awesome that we level up, but Legolas isn't famous for his physique, he's famous for his adventures! And what's more, he's not famous for his solo adventures, he's part of The Fellowship. What I'm proposing is that any group of NF'ers get together as a band of Virtual Adventurers. And together, as a fellowship, they complete adventure modules supplied by the community. Each adventure has plot points (Climb the mountain! Slay the Orcs! Slip into the Forbidden Temple of Gruumsh unnoticed and steal the fabled battleaxe Bonecrush!), which must be completed by all members of the adventuring party before they can go on to the next plot point. Completing a plot point might require an Endurance Feat, a Strength Feat, a Speed Feat, a Combat Feat, a Healing Feat, or other kind of feat. The best part is that each individual decides for him- or herself what qualifies for each of those feats. For instance, for me, I might choose the following: Endurance Feat - Complete a three mile run in under 30 minutes Strength Feat - 3 sets of 160# bench press Speed Feat - Complete a playground obstacle course in under a minute Combat Feat - Win a fencing bout 5-2 or better Healing Feat - Complete and post a new painting on Facebook Someone else in the Merry Band of Adventurers might choose something like: Endurance Feat - Run a mile without stopping Strength Feat - 3 chin ups Speed Feat - Set a new PR in lap swimming Combat Feat - Learn a new kata and perform it for sensei Healing Feat - Find a new way to add $10/wk into savings I imagine that, in time, adventuring parties will vie for the fastest time to complete given modules ("The Lowborn Seven completed The Quest of The Daylight Sword in under two weeks!"; "Yeah? The Dwarf Cabal is the only party to complete Marshland Keep this year!"). I bet, as a community, we'd come up with some awesome adventure modules. I think it could be some fun, and one more way to motivate each other. Let me know your thoughts. How can it be improved? Anyone interested in trying it out?
  13. Adventure! Excitement! So without further ado, here are my quests for the first challenge of 2015 and my return to NF.
  14. Hello and welcome to the RPG Fanatics. This is a story-based accountability group with some pretty easy guidelines: 1) Main story is written in this red and in bold. 2) Your character writes in this blue italic. 3) Regular writing that is not in character (like right now) is in regular old black. 4) Follow the threads of people in this group to offer accountability. Don't know how to follow and check on people? Easy: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/50975-how-to-pm-and-follow/ 5) Have some damn fun! With that out of the way, the story so far...... --- Welcome to the World of NerdFitness Something about the realm felt unsettling, but there was no way to put a clearly tell what was wrong. Then a raving lunatic named Teros is carted off- he was screaming in the streets about the end times. Intrigued and willing to give him a chance, a ragtag group naming themselves the RPG Fanatics faced their first foe: Sodamus. Along the way, the group rescued others that aided their quest; most notably Sulak; a goat monster that was held captive and specializes in arcane gem crafting. He created 'gems of portation', which were small illuminated gems that would light up when close to each other. It helped keep the group together in future campaigns. Sodamus' minions were tracked down and his goblin horde was dispatched. Sodamus was a demon-king responsible for the rise in new peppy 'elixirs'. Lo and behold, it turns out the demon-king's concoction was made with his own filth extracted from boils on his back and mixed with a blend of dirty water and drugs known as 'sugar' and 'caffeine'. The RPG Fanatics slayed the beast, only to deal immediately afterwards with three agents of the FrostKing. His minions froze the town of level 1 rebels as well as causing much destruction and mayhem. There arose in that small area by the level 1s an eternal winter: Two allies; the blind ravens Huginn and Muninn, explained the situation that has befallen the heroes. There are major Demon-Kings that have crept up to control the realm, and it was now the RPG Fanatic's quest to end them all. Sodamus was just the beginning- starting a chain reaction. The heroes have the attention of the mysterious Red One, as well as the other Demon-kings. The ravens spoke to the leader by default: Teros, about a grave omen that will need to be faced when the time comes to finally destroy the Red One. Knowing what must be done, Teros continues on with the RPG Fanatics; knowing crucial information that will be needed in the final fight. Our heroes trekked through the Scout's Plains up past the Ranger's Fort to the Warrior's Hall. There, the FrostKing's draugr minions of ice and bone clashed in an epic battle that saved the Warriors from overwhelming odds. Putting an end to the FrostKing was no easy task; being that he was the manifestation of being frozen in fear and inactivity. He was beheaded with some creative thinking, and the RPG Fanatics headed back south to help the Level 1 rebel town heal. After helping rebuild the level 1 town, the ravens spoke of another threat looming over the horizon: Distractia. The group enlisted the aid of others that rallied behind the core group of the RPG Fanatics. They made their way to Distractia's casino- a place filled with all sorts of addictions and distractions to keep people from realizing their full potential. Distractia was a different type of foe; enlisting the use of riddles, poison gas, killer mannequins, sorcery in neverending hallways, and his jester-minions. In the end, Distractia's death came by a dagger to the heart from a quick-acting hero in the group. Before his abrupt demise, he spoke lovingly of his 'Maru', which according to the picture framed by his piano was some sort of other demon-queen. The RPG Fanatics made their way out of Distractia's Casino and back to civilization to deal with the next threat to the realm: Acerbus. Acerbus' clouds of black shadow started to show their tendrils and the RPG Fanatics knew what they must do. They plowed through the burning sands of the south-west and went to the tomb of Depression Incarnate, The Black Dog, The Misguided Tales of Cerebrus and Anubus: The Demon-King Acerbus. Although a worthy foe; his light-stealing magics were not enough. With some crafting thinking and a stroke of luck by the group, he was defeated. The ravens tell of a disturbing issue: though very few Demon-Kings left, with every demon that is slain, the ones remaining are able to siphon the dead one's essence- thus becoming stronger. Every opponent that the group must face becomes evermore increasing in threat. Does this mean that this war is eternal, with the essence of evil merely passing from one vessel to another? Or can there be true peace? There was only one way to know for sure: continue the quest. Besides the mysterious and ever-watching RED ONE, the only demons that were left were the succubi-twins: Mal and Maru. They were responsible for other addictive substances like cheese and chocolate. Just like Sodamus' reign was from his 'elixirs', the demon-queen sisters realm was under the guise of a 'healthy sweets' shop/factory. In that factory was the bizarre Dr. N, who tried to trick the RPG Fanatics with his mind-altering truffles. Also in that area was were other succubi, who would seduce and siphon life from the weak-minded. Some of the RPG Fanatics came dangerously close to being turned into shriveled husks of humanity by these succubi, but overall the group had triumphed. Dr N. made his escape in the commotion. The battle with the demon-queens took shape, and one of them was dispatched. The other however, tried to fly away. Sulak's arrow was tethered with a thin rope, which plunged into her wing; shredding it. In the commotion, Sulak fell out of the factory window and plummeted towards the ground. Sadly, the demoness was wounded but ultimately escaped. The RPG Fanatics were able to heal Sulak to the best of their abilities; however, his gem of portation was partially shattered into his heart. If pulled out, he would die, so all of the healing salves and magics needed to work around this difficulty. Healed but permanently fused with his gem, Sulak is able to continue the fight. Now, after 10 grueling months of fighting the forces of evil, it culminates with this. The group must travel to the blackened island that no one else dare tread to face their task. Will this battle with the Red One be the end? Will there be peace in the realm? What about the omen that the ravens told of Teros back during the Frost King? We join these heroes on the next leg of their journey; and with knowing how evil is siphoned- their greatest challenge yet...

  16. [There should be a long, storyline introduction here, but there isn't. Life is full of surprises. This time I aim to switch from writing the story 1/week to including some narration every time I post the report of the day. Ambitious stuff, but isn't this what challenges are about?] Hello and welcome to this third (already?) challenge of mine, continued from my Battle Log. Last one was shaky to say the least, but it should be expected when summer rolls along. This time I'm getting back to my usual self, pushing the limits of awesomeness further and further. One of the things I learned last challenge is that randomness is inescapable, so I might as well embrace it! Onwards to Pandemonium! Quest 1: You gotta fight Take out the one or two settlements on the Plane and pretty much anything else alive there is out to kill and eat you. Plenty of battle for survival is to be expected. The start of the challenge coincides with my new box opening and I'm more than excited to get back into regular training after the summer. However, since I'll be travelling a lot, I'm easing a bit on the grading. Grading - A: Miss 1-2 trainings, B: Miss 3 trainings, C: Miss 4 trainings, D: Miss 5 trainings, F: Miss 6+ trainings Rewards: +1STR, +1 DEX, +1 STA Quest 2: Caves and tunnels Pandemonium is an underground realm, so while I'm in caves, I might as well eat like a caveman. Modified version of paleo, allowing for coffee and alcohol, minus beer and whiskey. Also not going crazy about traces of non-paleo stuff (i.e. breadcrumbs in the occasional burger). Grading - A: No cheats, B: 1 cheat, C: 2 cheats, D: 3 cheats, F: 4+ cheats Rewards: +5 CON. As usual, this is a priority. I've eased on limitations but not on my cheating allowance. Quests 3: Embrace the randomness It's a strongly chaotic Plane and my life has been all bout chaos lately. Gotta learn how to live with this and not stress out. For a minimum of 4 days/week, once per day, I'll roll a d10 and do 1 - 5d6 Woodchoppers 2 - 3d12 Pushups 3 - 1d100 minutes of housework chores 4 - 1d4 rounds of 4way planking (regular, sides and reverse) 5 - Play a videogame with 1d4 lives. After dying enough times, it's game over 6 - 2d100 Single Unders on my Jump Rope 7 - RPG related stuff. Either read at least 6d8 pages or write 2d4 pages 8 - 3d4 Box Jumps 9 - Read literature for at least 3d10 minuts 10 - 1d100 Squats Grading - A: 24 rolls, B: 20 rolls, C: 18 rolls, D: 16 rolls, F: 15 or less rolls Rewards: +1 WIS and +1 to a randomly rolled stat (d6) Life Quest: Get your motor running I finally have my motorcycle driver's licence and itching to buy one on the low cc end to get more familiar with riding a motorbike. For this goal, I'll have to set aside 100 Euros per week in order to create a small budget. Grading - A: 600+ collected, B: 599-550 collected, C: 549-500 collected, D: 499-450 collected, F: less than 450 collected Rewards: +4 WIS, +1 CHA Non graded goals: - Remain smoke-free for the duration of the challenge - When I'm home, listen to a vinyl record per day. Starting my epic quest to listen the entire collection - Deal with e-mails, facebook, checking the forum etc before I go to work in the mornings and afternoons. While at work, I don't want to log in any of those, the slacking is unproductive (work piles up and I get stressed) and most important, makes me feel bad and sours my mood Bonus reward: If I get at least 10 stat points by the end of the challenge, I'll be rewarding myself with an immovable rod for doing pullups Spreadsheet for tracking
  17. Main Quest Same as it ever was Lose weight and gain muscle. How do you lose weight? Old proverb........shut your mouth and move your ass. Shut your mouth .......check. I have finally got sugar and carbs under control which works for me. I am down 20+ lbs since starting NF this year. Need to maintain but focus this challenge is to Goals: Nutrition. +1 CON MAINTAIN EATING HABITS. I do my own version of Paleo which is about 90%. I will still allow one cheat a week ( not a cheat day just an item). If you have any questions about my version let me know. Bonus points for 100% Paleo days. 7pts/week 42/challenge 38-42=A, 33-37=B, 29-32=C Exercise . +4 STR, +3 STA, +3 DEX Different approach and weighed heavily. Wk 1. Hold me accountable. Need to get a routine here. Will score as we go. May have you guys give me my grade? Hydration. + 1 CON Have really let my water levels dip and do cheat with diet soda a few times a week. Drink 3 L of water daily. Diet soda only after 3L and to curb sugar monster attacks. 7pts/week. 42/challenge Same as nutrition scale. Life goal. + 1 WIS Made great strides towards my ultimate goal of living an uncluttered life. Going back to what works here and doing one thing each day above general housekeeping. 7pts/week. 42 pts/ challenge. Same scale as above. Community + 1 CHA +1WIS Do all Adventurer ( or RPG) minis. Participate in RPG group Meet and greet Level ones Co host level 1 accountabuddies group Motivation. Live every moment to the fullest. I have been blessed. Thanks in advance to those who will be joining me again and welcome to newcomers to follow. I will only post trivia after I work out for the day. Keep on me!
  18. I am heading to Camp! NerdFitness! So, the wheels on the bus go round and round...preparing me to be fit enough to participate at Camp NF! I have one serious issue that confronts me(only one?) artificial cervical disc replacement surgery on September 10th. The prognosis is that I will be able to participate, just not lift heavy things(oh, so sorry WildRoss and company!) or do crazy things like fly through the air (no zip line for me!) But any surgery result is better off with a healthy person going into it. The wheels are a set of various activities that I have collected that work with my various disabilities - For some of the break down, you can check out my notes in preparation for this challenge. I will create a set of cards and choose from them each day...and at the end of the week, I will have my totals. 1) Fitness Roulette Wheel - 6/7 20 min (2 Strength /2 Stamina/ 2 Dex) up to 2 STRENGTH - DO SOMETHING strong 3/7 DAYS up to 2 STAMINA - DO SOMETHING for 10 min 6/7 DAYS up to 2 DEXTERITY - DO SOMETHING flexible - 6/7 week - 1 each day That is 15 pts per week and 90pts per challenge 81-90pts= A, 72-80pts = B, 63-71pts = C 2) Reading/Encouraging Wheel - 6/7 20 min (2 Wisdom 2Charisma ) Reading Wheel: Wisdom one point for each item READ. one per week goal is 6 Breakdown would be 6pts =A, 5 pts = B, 4pts = C Community Wheel: Adventurers / Level 1s(Red Pill) / RPG one point per day, goal is 6 Breakdown would be 6pts =A, 5 pts = B, 4pts = C 3) Food- 6/7 (a cheat meal on day 7 maybe?) 20. I learned a lot from my first attempted challenge: I am in WAY worse shape than I thought. And in an effort to prove how cool I was (or some other stupid self-talk) I managed to make it all worse. Knees and elbows are suffering the most. FOOD: Do not use the "D" word AT ALL. 45 years of negative conditioning have me panicking at the very thought of "dieting" Last month I ate more garbage than I've bothered with in a long time. The notion of "Paleo" had me in a frenzy. This month, the goal is to write down everything I eat. I made a little weekly chart, and this challenge, I aim only to document. I'm cutting out a lot of corn, and white bread, but I'm not going to tell myself things that trigger panicky responses... taking it mellow. EXERCISE: still not working up a sweat. afraid I'll have a heart attack and drop dead. Prolly won't, but everybody has warned me about it for so long that I have to de-program that fear. so, I keep working on range of motion, warm-up kind of stuff & body weight exercises. My right knee is an issue, also one of the reasons I'm participating in this challenge; I figure that if I strengthen the muscles around my knee, and pay better attention to how I am moving, maybe I'll stop twisting it all the time. and last, but not least, I need to COLLECT MORE UNDERPANTS. Truly, I thought that my nerd fitness collection of hard-copy-print-outs was rather immense, but I am obviously mistaken. I need more data. Now, I admit that most of this is not a S.M.A.R.T. goal. But it is a goal, and I will know if I have achieved it. The mini-challenges and Role Players give me focus on things I might not think of myself. (I did LOTS of pushups throughout my day, today.) The support groups filled with amazing people are something I have not experienced before. It's outside my comfort zone, but I kinda like it. Maybe some day I will be able to create spreadsheets and point systems to document my progress, like all the cool ones I see in other peoples' goal documents, but that's just not something I can do right now. I am an adventurer... on an adventure. I want to last another 50 years -- strong and healthy. to do that I need to eat well, keep my body strong, and get my head together. (finding a creative outlet would be nice too, but I shall save that for another time, i s'pose.) it is a process and a journey. ***
  21. So - I am just setting up a thread here - while I'm traveling with my daughter and two grandsons(1 and 3.5) from Clermont Florida back to Youngstown Ohio. It is coming up time for me to figure out if I need to have surgery on my eye to release the liquified jelly that is pulling away from my retina and causing a 'sheen' on my eyesight - or more specifically - the right half of my right eye is like looking through sheer curtains - with occasional lightning curves, though, those have pretty much stopped(meaing the 6 month process is probably coming to an end). It is coming up time for me to figure out which surgery, if any, I will have on my neck. It is coming up time for me to be walking 5k's so that I can do my color run in July in Birmingham AL. And, it's past time for me to lose weight. it's past time for me to build strength. it's past time for me to face fears, and doubts, and frustrations. How this will look as a challenge, I don't know. But what I do know is that I will do these things: Physical ( 3STR) Cool showers - I like the effect - maybe I'll be up to a cold shower - 3x week. wk1:xxxx 1.Arms/Shoulders: Pushups(counter or wall) - wk1 mx, tx, w10 2.Leg(and hip) exerises(squats, steps ups, awesome legs, diva dierierre) - wk1:mx tx w1010; Rx; F10+30 3.CORE: Planks every day -wk1:mx, txn, wx;Rx; 4.arm strength(variations of curls, rows, kettlebells) - 3x week. wk 1:mx, tx, wx Rx; 5. walk every day - base rate is 5000 steps - work to 10000 day if no surgeries. wk1:m 4k; t 4k; w 4k; R1k 6. swim 1x week: wk 1: Diet (3CON) paleo - meaning - NOgrains, NOdairy, NOaddedsugar(1 fruit per day) wk 1:mx; tx; w yes; Ry I am participating in BiggestLoser3.0 on Facebook, hosted by AlienJenn. Wisdom/Spiritual (3WIS) I have messed up on my Bible Reading, and Prayer - this needs to be daily - if only 5-10 minutes each wk1: mx;tx; wy;Ry; I have forgotten the joy program - posting a joy thing each day 100happydaysmx, tx, wy;Ry; I have forgotten the art project - art each day. mx,tx, wx; Rx Posting! I want to add these three back - because these three make me who I am - whereas the physical is to help me be who I am! Accountability I am part of the Adventurers Quild - I have 3 stats left for mini challenges at adventurers - I will need to post something here each day - to be accountable. Or I'll start a battle log. I will participate with my accountabilibuddies in the RPG fanatics thread. and in the blackdog thread RPG AND Adventurer's guild - first mini - +1 WIS for finding and connecting with folks I want to tackle depression, anxiety, PTSD, and some other stuff...but I am finding that the above behaviors are the minimum necessary for my well being, mentally and emotionally! Diet - especially sugar and graines - cause depression to lurk closer. Lack of meditation in my Faith in Jesus Christ tends to weaken my joy. Lack of consistent exercises tends to weaken me, period, and lead to more stiffness. I want to work on what I found out in the last challenge, as I attempted to peel back the layers(of the onion - or cake - whichever) to reveal myself. It was a great lesson, a great time of revelation...and I want to solidify some of those things. DIGS: week one - neck surgery, find cardio reports; find what HAS worked in the past
  22. Welcome to the world of NerdFitness The brave RPG Fanatics have now taken down two demon-kings. The first one was Sodamus, a demon-king responsible for the rise in new peppy 'elixirs' that were basically the drugs sugar and caffeine. Lo and behold, it turns out the demon-king's concoction was made with his own filth extracted from boils on his back and mixed with a blend of dirty water and drugs. The mighty RPG Fanatics slayed the beast, only to deal immediately afterwards with three agents of the FrostKing. His minions froze the town of level 1 rebels as well as causing much destruction and mayhem. Two allies; the ravens Huginn and Muninn, explained the situation that has befallen the heroes. There are major Demon-Kings that have crept up to control the realm, and it was now the RPG Fanatic's quest to end them all. Sodamus was just the beginning- starting a chain reaction. The heroes have the attention of the mysterious RED ONE, as well as the other Demon-kings. Now, while helping the townsfolk and resting for another battle; the adventure begins again... -- The Level 1 rebel camp was not back to 100%, but it was very close. All the rebels and their animals were thawed. One young lad dressed in green was hugging his horse, Epona, happy to have their friend back. The blacksmith shop was back to functional, as well as new crops being sewn and many of the shacks people were living in had been rebuilt into log cabins. More rebels from far away lands arrived on the shores; the old mingled with the new as people set out on their adventures. The raven, Muninn nodded in approval. The camp was just about sustainable. Huginn swept in towards his friend and they murmured to each other. They agreed, it is time. Muninn swooped towards Teros, "This calm won't last forever. It is time. Huginn has given me word that Distractia's Casino has been swelling with more and more people. They have been boasting about new technologies and tricks; luring more into his time-warped walls. Assemble the group, and see if any newcomers would like to join. We must leave shortly." Muninn spoke with Teros a bit more and agreed. Teros ordered the call and rallied the RPG Fanatics once again. According to the ravens, Distractia is a mentally chaotic demon-king that is never seen, only heard about. He owns a massive complex that has all sorts of amusements. Some are rides, some are gambling halls, but the glitz, the glamor, the amazing aura of the establishment was enough to entrance many a wary soul to become lost in time to pleasantries. Distractia's halls had no sort of windows and always had permanent lighting fixtures to disorient people into not knowing what time or day it was. The exit-ways were intentionally confusing and plotted out to make sure it was easier to stay a while longer and play than to go back to their family or other priorities. The food there was tainted with likely the same foulness that Sodamus had used to keep people stuffing their fill on a constant basis. These people were stuck. They were in a cycle of warped and twisted version of carpe diem. They were trapped in a whole different world where nothing mattered but instant gratification and whimsical enchantment. Calling them 'halls' doesn't speak volumes to the grandiose scale of it. It was practically the size of a town, employed by Distractia's devil-may-care goonies. Jesters who wore faceless masks that delighted on draining the souls of those who entered the halls through tempting them for 'one more minute', whether it be the drugged food, the gambling, or the sedentary leisure of watching magical picture-boxes that played movies endlessly. It was not a place Teros wanted to venture, being prone to some of these distractions. However, if the ravens feel that Distractia now became the biggest threat to the people, that is where the RPG Fanatics must go. Teros called out to the group, "We must prepare!" ---Mini-Challenge #1--- Suit up - The first mini-challenge is to join the ranks and check on others. Like in any good story, the hero needs to be prepared and have allies. The challenge is to get your thread posted, to post the link here, and to check on everyone's goals. We need each other's back for this journey. (+1 Wisdom - Adventurers this counts as either option.) Any newcomers in the next day or two: This is a story-based accountability group. I write story in this type of font, and if you want your rpg character to write their responses then please do so in this font. If you're not sure what to do, just follow the lead of the people that have done this before and you'll feel at home in no time. I post the start of the story on Sunday, and usually something around thursday/friday; accompanied by a mini. Introduce yourself, good luck, have fun, and let's slay a demon-king! https://docs.google.com/a/my.uri.edu/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aiv-aMyHwRQKdGpuNDB2V2N1REhvLWtObnFod1hkbkE&usp=sharing#gid=12 Brave souls who will take down a demon-king (This is an accountability group. It looked to be Pedibus heading out and towards the inn. Hopefully they were ok. The Forest of Doubts is not a place to ever go near. When talking to the ravens, Teros thought he heard someone mention 'fair maidens' behind him but was lost in thought at the time. Ravnos was nearby, probably trying to catch ear of what the ravens were telling him. "Excellent...so what is our next task in defeating these demon-lords?" Teros stood on a large nearby rock so his voice would project: "Listen, friends, comrades, and newcomers to this fight. I am not a particularly brave satyr, but I know what's right and wrong. The ravens have spoke to me and told me that the biggest threat with the FrostKing's demise is the disturbed Distractia. His halls are home to many a lost soul. His trickery of tainted food, wine, women, and song are that of the vilest sirens. Many enter the chambers that Distractia calls home, but very few ever leave. I have heard of prototypes of magic picture boxes using the arcane arts to create dazzling displays. There will be many innocents there, ensnared by a slew of temptations. We can't charge through to get to him. This foe is not brawn like Sodamus or the FrostKing. He is brains. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous going there. I've heard tales of this place prior to starting our Sodamus quest. If he is stronger now, then I fear this will be serious test of wills." Introductions were being made and some newcomers wanted to join the RPG Fanatics on their quest. As long as they knew this wouldn't be an easy quest and were trustworthy- then all were welcome. Teros collected his belongings. He would have to make a run to the tavern to get some meat to dry into jerky for the road. The group head out; the ravens scouting ahead and then circling back to the group. Distractia's halls were right near the edge of the Forest of Doubts; next to the Scout's Plains. It would be quick work; especially compared to the hike to the FrostKing in the frozen north the RPG Fanatics made weeks prior. Teros saw familiar faces and some new ones. As long as they were by his side, he would fight. Sulak walked up to Teros. "What are we-e-e-e-e-e waiting for. Let's g-g-g-o!"* Teros grimaced as the air around him started to feel dark, like a storm was approaching, "Let's go..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TkgmHWptVc
  23. Salivanth breathed heavily as he trudged out the door to check his mail. That last set of rows had been killer, and it wasn't going to get any easier when he moved up. Still, all the pain and sweat was worth it, as he was definitely noticing changes. He'd gotten much stronger. His clothes fit looser. His arms were a bit more defined. He'd even had a couple of friends ask him if he'd lost weight. He'd had to assure them that he wasn't feeling sick; weight loss was almost unknown among the hobbits of Rushforth. Opening his mailbox, he found an envelope with a strange seal; a cloaked man, and what looked like a bird behind him, or perhaps more cloak. A seal he had only seen once before in his life, two months ago, when he was first contacted. Carefully shielding the envelope from any onlookers, he walked back into the house. He knew what this was. The Assassins had claimed to be watching him, had sent him an intricate (and presumably expensive) magical device to assist in his endeavours, and now they had contacted him again. Excitement and nervousness warred in him as he carefully cut open the seal and extracted the letter inside. He sat, and read. Dear Salivanth. On behalf of my order, I would like to officially welcome you to the Assassins. You have continued to work hard towards bettering yourself, and becoming the kind of agent we can make use of. You have passed our test, but rest assured, the work has only just begun. In the bushes next to the creek that flows near your house, you'll find a package. It contains a device known as a foam roller. Your Laptop of Limited Omniscience will provide you with information on how to use it. Learn to do so over the coming weeks. Not only does it require a base level of strength to use effectively, it will also aid in flexibility and recovery. An injured agent is a useless agent. A useless agent is a liability. The Assassins do not like liabilities. Normally, we would not assign you a mission for many months, until you had reached an above-average level of physical strength, flexibility, and endurance. However, it just so happens that we have a minor role for you to play, and we have no other agents in the area. Hobbits do not typically join the Assassins, or indeed, any of the guilds. One of our archivists has uncovered mention of a shrine dedicated to the long-lost Dwarven people; a race of small size, but legendary strength and physical capabilities. This shrine is mentioned to be near the village that today is known as Rushforth. The shrine is hundreds of years old, and likely naught but a ruin by now. The dwarves were known to build their most sacred structures underground, so the shrine may not be easy to find. This is not a priority mission, but we would like you to search for it as time allows. Do not allow this to distract from your primary role of improving your capabilities. Best of luck. Sincerely, Hazard, Ambassador to the Assassin's Guild. Salivanth looked at his soft, weak feet, and thought of the rocky terrain surrounding his village, and the thoroughness he would require in order to search the entire area for an underground entrance that was last used centuries ago. With a sigh, he headed out the door and began walking towards the creek. He had work to do.
  24. I am going to start this battle log - but I am going to put here my previous battles. I need a place where I can put my story all in one place...which is what I think is the purpose of BattleLogs. But, here is one of my inspirations, sent to me by TennisGeek:

Pinewoods is a small village that is economically dependent on the local sawmill. Barton and Kressara Grim own the sawmill, with the help of their four sons: Errine, Bharat, Esiao, and Derex Family Her mother, Helenia, died in childbirth, leaving the young baby in the care of her father, Adham Hawklight. Cassi was the only child produced by the union, and her father has never shown any interest in bringing another wife into the household. Cassi's grandparents, Brinley and Gavina, live a half-day's walk from the Hawklight farm. Cassi likes to make the journey at least once a fortnight to learn cooking, sewing, and other skills of running the household for her father. Her mother's brother, Edrick, was a soldier in the Great War and regales Cassi with stories of his great adventures. Edrick is the person that Cassi credits (and her father blames) for planting the dreams of adventure in her head. Duties and Obligations Cassi feels great obligation to stay with her father and take care of him, although her heart longs for great adventures. She knows her father wishes for her to marry Derex, the youngest son of the owners of the sawmill. Although Derex and Cassi are great friends, there is no great love between the two.
