  1. Hey Guys I'm back. I fell off the wagon pretty hard. I've been taking time adjusting to my life in Japan and things have been really hectic for me but I really want to get back on the horse and ride it to my healthy new self. I'm currently living in Kagoshima in Japan so tracking my food has become a real nightmare! Sometimes I don't know what I am eating let alone its nutritional value. I don't feel I control of my food because I can't read a lot of it. My carb intake is up and so my weight is also creeping up which has made me loose motivation to exercise But I've come back because I need help getting to where i want to be. I'm currently 90 kg and I'm still 5'4''(despite trying to grow) and I've stopped all exercise and nutritional things in September. My old plan was Primal and Body weight exercises but as Rice is pretty much everywhere here I think I want to try a different way of eating but I'm not sure what would be best for me. I have asthma and allergies to both wheat and strawberries which is caused by IBS. I used to cook a lot of my own food but here there is very limited cooking equipment (I have one hob and a rice cooker and a kettle) and eating out is actually cheaper than cooking. TL;DR I want to get back on track but I have very little free time here ( study study study) so can anyone recommend some time effective asthma friendly exercises and diet ideas I can follow whilst here in Japan?
  2. I've been here before, and utterly failed...well, kinda. It's best to read this thread: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/32311-must-get-in-shape-must-defeat-kal-el/ What happened after that post: I love my job, Had a severe onset of what I call "black dog days" and turned to food and media. Lost my apartment after losing my power. So, as with any superhero (or villain) I had to overcome a lot before I could even start the goals. That meant, killing some other goals. What have I done since last year? I have gotten a new job that is the closest thing to a dream job that I've ever had. I've also been writing a lot more and am now a wordsmith with several published articles and I'm working on several book projects as an editor and contributor. Financially, still in the hole but I've begun to climb out. So, in many ways, I am way, way better off than I was last year. I'll always have depression and other hurdles, but we got this! So, in that spirit, I am wanting to start my participation in the forums. My problem last year was that I was the "eager beaver" and thus when one part of goal failed, I let the others. I want to combat this by dividing my goal into two sections, kinda micro and macro goals. So, Macro (long term) goals: Start losing weight. No set number, but I want to fit into my swanky clothes that I've kept. So, means going from a 48 waist to a 42, probably about 80 lbs. To the peanut gallery: should I set this for a year? Is that too eager (see post and my own admittance of faults). Keep writing. I got this. I want to make a graphic novel. Get a little more social. Life's kicked my ass, I got stories to tell and think it makes me a good story teller. Micro, what I want to do over the next 30 days. Keep fast food/dining out to once a week (I know, I should cut it out, but this is gunna be hard!) Wake up a little earlier each day, with the goal of being able to be up bright and early at 6am by day 30 (night owl by nature here) Work out three days a week, hopefully including some hiking while New Hampshire keeps me going. Reduce my booze to the weekends. I'm not an alcoholic, but a craft beer fanatic. I know it's not good to drink two beers a night every night while I lead a mostly sedentary life. I think these are manageable, but am I still an eager beaver? Please, I want as much honesty as possible. If anyone want to be my accountability buddy, feel free to also PM me. Cheers all, let's do this!
  3. Hello Adventurers! I'm back for a second go at the 6 week challenge. I am once again pretty excited about continuing on my route to healthier living and excited to be part of this group. MOTIVATION: LOVE THYSELF. My motivation is to love myself. That encompasses being able to genuinely and lovingly celebrate my successes, embrace my faults and not give up on the person that has been there 100% of the time along the way: Me. My self-esteem is in the dumps due to a lot of things and I'm done feeling so poorly about myself. This is for me. This quest, the desire to be better, stronger, healthier, lovelier; it's for me. My Main Quest: I would like to continue to lose weight. I have a goal of reaching 170lbs by July 4th, 2014. In order to reach that goal, I will need to lose about 46lbs in about 11 months. I believe it is a very attainable goal. The Missions: Mission 1: EAT IT!In the last three months, I have had great success eating a cleaner diet. During the last challenge I was able to drop 14#'s. Here is my progression: I lean more towards Paleo than any other diet, but I still have my weekly day off. My biggest nemesis is beer. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we love our brew. I can't see myself ever cutting beer out completely from my diet. I actually don't like cutting things out at all. I have learned about myself that once I cut something out, it becomes the source of obsession for me. I like having the option to eat whatever I want and make better choices instead. That feels powerful. My Getting Clean mission will be to continue developing my healthy eating habits. Mission Rules: One day "off" per week= A Two days "off" per week= B Three days "off" per week= C Four days "off" (or more) per week= D Mission 2: MOVE IT!Aside of diet, the best way to lose weight is by being active. Last challenge I learned that I can get a little bit over-zealous when it comes to goal-making, so this time around I am KISS'ing this mission. Eligible activities will include anything worth more than 100 points on Fitocracy. Mission Rules: Being active 5 days during the week= A Being active 4 days during the week= B Being active 3 days during the week= C Being active 2 days (or less) during the week= D Mission 3: LOG IT! I think that the biggest reason I joined NerdFitness and the challenges is for accountability. I like having to share what I am up to. During the last challenge (and through my journey to lose weight), I have learned that I get better results when I log/jot/write/scribble down what I am up to, especially those times when I don't want to be accountable. My mission is to update my comings and goings weekly on my challenge thread. Mission Rules: 6 Weekly Updates= A 5 Weekly Updates= B 4 Weekly Updates= C 3 Weekly Updates (or less)= D Life Mission: SAVE IT!In December 2012, I got in a car accident and totaled my car. Since then, I have been riding public transportation, which is pretty awesome here in the Portland Metro area, however it is usually a lengthy commute to and from work. I am currently trying to save money in order to buy a new-to-me car. Realistically I know I will probably not be able to save more than about $120 in six weeks, but here is to hoping that it is more, after all, this is a challenge. Mission Rules: $120 or more saved= A $90-$119 saved= B $60-$89 saved= C <$59 saved= D
