  1. I recently joined the rebellion, then the academy. I'm stoked to succeed! I've got a list of small but manageable goals including exercising 3 days+ a week with a rest day in between. I've decided to exercise at home since I have a habit of pushing myself at the gym 3 or 4 days a week for 3 weeks, then quitting for a month+. I successfully completed the academy's beginner bodyweight workout and got sick the same nite with a vicious head cold (I think). It's bad enough that im going to a walk in clinic later today (got sick Tuesday nite). So my question is, is it ok to skip the exercise till I'm better so long as I'm doing my other quests (stretching, mediation, eating healthy, drinking more water, etc) and I can response for working out later? Sometimes if I work out when sick I get better, other times it makes things worse. Thanks guys!
  2. Hello, I'm Némo, which American's can't pronounce so try "Nay-mo" and that's a girls name here (thanks Disney!) I signed up today, I was surfing around and got here as it seems to fit me a lot. I used to be a rugby player up to 3 years back, got VERY VERY ill lost +/- 17 kg of muscules ended up being +/- 55 kilo's with 168 cm. (that's 121,25 pounds on 5.5 feed) which is skinny but not bad. however I was weak and when I got better i gained a lot of weight. I'm now on 67.7 kilo's (+/- 150 pounds) I don't mind being 150 pounds.. but it's not muscles as before it's FAT and I feel the difference I don't wake up fit and I feel lazy and sleepy and crappy really. I want to change... but change is always difficult. if you didn't move for like 2,3 year after you moved heavily 6 days a week you get bored. I started playing A LOT of video games... and now.. I found this, how cool is that! anyway I'm here now, no plan plan so far, just looking around for the moment, I created my first challange here; looking into this accademy thing, but I find 150 dollar a lot.. so I need to over think this, I'm starting with this month of try-out. work out how the quests work etc. and then... when I get into the community more... I might acctually make a plan and make the change. When I stopped drinking (4,5 years back) I leared... "one day at the time" that how I'll approach this. I'll focus on one day at the time. and for the november challange... we'll see what happens next
  3. I have dietary issues. Big ones. And I'm not just talking about temptations and not eating enough protein, even though that's a part of it too. There is a mountain of food I cannot eat simply because if I do I get instant diarrhea, bloated and gassy for 1-2 days. A lot of the stuff I eat that makes this effect is bad, and I know that. Anything sugary has this effect on me, pasta, some bread (not all?), french fries, chips, booze.. But a lot of the time it comes from healthy foods too. Plant protein for smoothies, peanut- and almond butter, vegan cheese, cooked vegetables, beans, veggie patties, sometimes fish?? (I still eat fish from time to time but plan on cutting that out too in the future). I'm definitely lactose intolerant too, one cup of milk and I am out for days. I'm so tired of not being able to eat anything. Tonight I had to cancel a social event because I stink too bad. I am disgusting. I am so unattractive and bloated and smelly. I don't know what to do. Every time I bring this up with doctors or trainers they tell me it's because I'm mostly vegetarian and that I should just quit and start eating meat again. But this issue was evident even before I made the change which was 2 years ago. I also take probiotics to help my stomach but they don't have that much of an impact. I don't want to eat animals. I would rather eat nothing but salad, raw vegetables and eggs all day, everyday. Preferably I'd like to eat something more versatile and not go into a fit of farts but apparently that's not possible! It angers me that the only solution professionals offer me is eating meat, there has got to be another way.
  4. I am coming down with a cold (bit achy, congested nose, sore through, headache etc.) and I was wondering if I should keep with my workout and push through or is it best to adjust it? What should I do? Should I exercise and eat the same or change anything?
  5. Anyone have any recipes for paleo-friendly comfort foods? Have been le sick for a couple weeks, and honestly as much as I love ribeye/salad/meat/bacon, it just doesn't sound good right now and I'm pretty chicken-souped-out lol. Thanks!
  6. So I have a nasty sinus infection. It has been getting progressively worse over the past few days. I went ahead and did my workout on Monday. Not able to make any gains, but I completed the workout on my past weights. Unfortunately I have gotten worse sense then, decongestants not working, etc. Dr say's it is viral, so no magic cure. I was wondering if it is okay to continue working out in this state, or if I should wait it out? Today is supposed to be overhead press/deadlift/dips day plus the usual HIIT sprints. Any ideas?
  7. Hey all, About six months ago, I started getting up very early to go workout in the gym. Even though I tried to compensate my sleep time by going to bed earlier, I found myself getting sick a lot more often (just colds). It became bad enough that I really had to stop waking up so early and working out. All the weight came back, but I am motivated to give it another go. I am worried about getting sick all the time again. Do you think I was getting sick because of the early rise? Any suggestions for how to keep these “workout colds†(if that is what they are) away? I am usually a very healthy person and never get sick. It is really hard for me to workout after work, and if I go too late I worry I will not be able to fall asleep, so I don’t know another time I could hit the gym. Thanks all! Adam
  8. Hi there, rebels! Just thought I'd say hello and introduce myself. You can see me below, doing my best 2-D impression. I'm a young nerdling, just a few years down the road of Sy-Fy originals, D&D nights, and video game release date countdowns. Still haven't been to my first comic-con, so I suppose I'm not a true nerd, but I'm working on it. I'm also new to the land of fitness, as evidenced by the flabby arms in the aforementioned picture. Hoping to join the Assassins Guild after my first challenge to build some strength, agility, and joint stability in recovery from years of arthritis. Speaking of which, any other chronically ill folks here? It's going to be a rough road thanks to my health and I'd love to walk it with nerds in the same boat. Excited about what this community will add to my life! And pleased to meet you all. Max Curtis Baby Nerd
  9. So I've been paleo for 11 days now and I must say I was not expecting to feel this rotten. The mental fuzziness is one thing but the want-to-throw-up-and-trot-to-the-bathroom for 3 days is another. I was trying to do the first 30 days (Whole30) strictly paleo but I dont know if I can. I may do 80/20 from now on. I couldnt look at food or coffee (gasp!) this morning and thought if I force one more bite of peach (only thing I could stomach) I was going to get sick. Then my coworker made me eat peanut butter crackers (I know) and I feel so much better than this morning. Anywone else have these "Stomach flu" like symptoms?
  10. So you've had to spend a week begrudgingly tied to the couch with a bottle of cough syrup and a box of tissues as your best friends, and now that you are feeling better are trying to jump back into routine. I myself am coming off a sinus infection and have a 5k this weekend that I promised to run...with my boss.. What do you do to shake that last bit of cold out of your system so you feel like new again and do you try and start right back into your routine, or ease into it?
  11. So I'm a touch overweight, and, like most overweight people, I'm also pretty out of shape. I also like to push myself really hard, and I'm not sure where my limits are physically. I'm noticing that when I do any sort of strenuous exercise, I start to feel sick to my stomach, to the point that I need to slow down and stop for a bit to avoid making a mess. I'm pretty sure I'm hydrating okay, and I try not to exercise right after eating or anything. Would my nausea be linked to my heart rate, perhaps? If so, how exactly do I go about getting my heart fit so I can get the rest of me in shape?
