  1. Thank you to the awesome mods for fixing the error that was keeping us in the past (challenges). Now we can stride forth confidently into the future! Towards the end of the last challenge, I set a weight loss goal, made it just past the deadline. I am ready to reset the board and set a new weight loss goal: to weigh in at 238 by September 4. That's 11 pounds, and I know I can do it. Starting with nutrition. I'm going to stick to three meals a day and a veggie snack in the afternoons. I'm going to focus on drinking more water too, and cutting back on cheese. But I'll continue the basic rules of limiting the sweets to after dinner, and not eating foods that make me feel sick. Basically, eat healthy and don't make myself sick It is very important to me that I focus on a diet that is sustainable, healthy, and has some fun to it. For fitness, I'm going to step it up a little. I've been walking with my mom for about 30-40 minutes; 4-5 times a week. but I've neglected my strong workouts, so I'm going to bring those back for 3 days a week. and I'd like to push my total cardio for the day to an hour. Maybe I break it up into 2 sessions, but I'm going to aim for an hour of sweaty goodness 5 times a week. I weigh in on Fridays, and will be reflecting on the week and making adjustments as I need to to continue to stay in the sweet spot of "challenging, not punishing" Also for this challenge, I'd like to find my car keys. 😮 they've been missing for a couple weeks, and I know they're in the house somewhere... THEY HAVE BEEN FOUND (august 9) YEEHAW I HAVE MY KEYS BACK! Week 0 - 6 days of exercise; 1 strong day, 3 hour cardio days Week 1-
  2. So I didn't know exactly the place to put this but... I figured here was good enough. 6-7 Years ago I just started running to work out, and also swam some. I met a guy and he ran, too, so we ran a lot together. And then I followed BodyRock videos for a while because they were fast and easy to follow. And then I did my own HIIT style workouts with weights based on workouts I found around the internets. And then I did weight training and probably 6 weeks of Starting Strength before I got kinda bored. And then I went fully into triathlon training. I even have a coach and I completed an Olympic-distance tri in September 2014. This seems linear but it's really been kind of chaotic and flopping back and forth between lots of different workout programs, styles, and philosophies. The most consistent thing has been the triathlon training but I've had several breakdowns where mentally and emotionally I just can't dedicate 1-2 hours a day, 6 days a week, to running, cycling, and swimming. And so now I'm at this place where I just feel like I still haven't found that sweet spot where I enjoy the exercise, and it's sustainable and I can do all the other things I want to do in life (sewing, video games, cooking, cleaning, reading). I feel like a quitter for jumping around a lot to different things, but if I don't love it and it's not fulfilling, then why am I doing it? With 10-12 hours a week dedicated to training, I miss out on stuff or I get stressed if I want to go on a weekend trip. It's kind of ridiculous and it's not very fun. And life is too short to spend it stressing about whether or not I'm going to fit my workout in. Does everyone do this where they either need a break or just need to switch up their routine for a while?
  3. Hey there! Ok, so I'm not a really a "prepper". At least...not like that. But I am a huge fan of living as self-sufficiently and cheaply as possible. I'm curious if there are other fit nerds out there who are into things like: Canning/Drying/Freezing and otherwise preserving food Hunting/Fishing/Wild foraging Gardening DIY projects New uses for old junk Saving energy and money Yesterday I canned about 8 lbs of dry beans. I have a freezer full of deer meat and some free roosters that I butchered from local farmers. My washing machine is from 1940 and has a separate wringer...but I also have a washboard just in case. Did I mention I live in West Virginia? So Nerds, what about you? Tell me about your prepping experiences!
