Hey there TX rebels!! My husband and I live in CT currently...but it is sucking our souls out of us a little bit more every day. SO! Our plan is to pack up and get our butts out of here in a year or so. Right now, at the top of our list is Austin, TX as a new home. He spent a little over a year between San Antonio and Fort Hood when he was in the military, and I was in Dallas for a week for work. Both of these things happened 6-8 years ago...so we don't have any current familiarity to speak of. Besides the fact that it's hot some times, and not so hot others...and all the stuff I can read on Wikipedia...I was hoping some of you that are in the area could give me some of your favorite (or not so favorite) things about the Austin, TX area. We're both in our early thirties, do not have children and are not planning on it, and have two small fur babies that we love. We both grew up here in CT, but he's spent those years in TX, and a few in FL when he was young, and I spent 3.5 years in CA when I was 19-22. We like going to the shooting range for fun, burlesque, Twin Peaks, and I LOVE drag shows. So basically a wide variety of strange things. What would you tell New England transplants that may be new to the area? Do you love it there...or is this the kind of place that looks good on paper, but is really crummy when you're in it. That southern charm threw me for a loop when I was there, because the attitude up here is completely different. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get some good feedback, but I'd appreciate the honesty no matter what it is. Thanks for any info you can give me. We totally appreciate locals insight
