I started out this journey over 18 years ago. A young man, wide-eyed, passionate and eager to fight the darkness. I enlisted in the Marines and then the Navy as my heart was touched by the call of King Neptune. In that time I have walked many paths, seen countless foreign lands and fought in epic battles. I have neared the end of this journey and those heroes I have looked up to and strived to emulate... There is a beast blocking my path; the Navy's Physical Fitness Assessment. It is a challenge, a rigorous test that must be completed four times in the hopes of reaching the long awaited end to my service; retirement. Just like other heroes I am facing surmounting odds, not the least of which is my own health and that I have only one chance to succeed. Should I fail even one of these tests... I am done, relieved of duty and cast from the ranks of Davy Jones' crew. My main quest is to prepare to face the first of these tests this fall; sometime in November. I am seeking to lose body fat to meet the requirements of being under 22% per the guidelines and passing the fitness portion with a "Good" or higher. My motivation is to finish out my Naval service honorably and join the ranks of my brethren drinking to the foam. I know it will be challenging, but as Lao Tzu said "The journey of 100,000 miles begins with a first step."
