  1. Title With it being friends and familly and work.. when do you do it? i'd love to hear your solutions, im a bit lost on this.
  2. Greetings again fellow Druids. The challenge from February was my first one here at Nerd Fitness. I enjoyed it and feel that I learned a few things that I can use to further my epic quest. My first challenge had a few specific goals on changes I wanted to make but also was for gathering data. As an example, one of my quests was to log everything I ate for the duration of the challenge. Looking back at the past month's worth of data shows me some of the trends that have been preventing my progress. If you want to see my thoughts at the end of the last challenge, that can be found at http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/77866-mahnshooths-journey-begins/ That being said, it was a successful challenge so now I am on to Level 2! I plan on continuing the same activities from my first challenge and building on those. So still 10 minutes of meditation daily, logging my food, and not drinking soda at work. Diet No two bad meals in a row. If I go out for lunch at work I have to cook dinner and eat healthy for that meal. This is to try to stop the snowball effect that tends to going completely off track.0-1 days a week with alcohol. I drink too often on the weekend so limiting this to a single day a week. Fitness Follow a 30 day Beginner's Yoga series. Level Up Your Life Create and stick with a weekend morning routine. I have been good with the weekday mornings when I have to get up and get things done. On the weekend I tend to be lazy in the morning and not do anything which leads to a completely non-productive day. I will start by carrying over my weekday routine to the weekend. So, here we go toward reaching Level 3. I have added these quests to my Character page. https://www.nerdfitness.com/character/74815
  3. I don't know how many are in a similar situation as I am, so let me explain. I live in NYC but grew up in the country and crave some good hiking every weekend or every other weekend. I've already looked up some parks and trails not too far from the city. The problem is transportation. I don't own a car, and while I can try borrowing my parent's - I'd rather not depend on it. I can't go to parks accessible by various public forms of transportation (trains, etc) because I'm going with my dog. Any suggestions for one day car rentals, or maybe some other options I am not considering? Thanks!
  4. Hi All, I was listening to one of my favourite podcast series ( http://www.dirtbagdiaries.com/webpage/category/podcasts ) yesterday and came across a really cool episode that helped me shake off some stagnancy and re-brighten my perspective on fitness, fun and adventure: http://www.thecleanestline.com/2012/12/dirtbag-diaries-the-sufferthon.html ... yes, the name is a bit offputting isn't it? I actually didn't listen to this episode for a couple of months because of the title and then the actual part about "The Sufferthon" itself didn't really do a lot for me. What was great was the intro featuring Alistair Humphries and the concept of "microadventures". Now, perhaps to someone of his history the things he describes on the podcast and here http://www.alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/year-microadventure/ are "micro" but most of the time these are about as far as my adventurousness extends! I love the spirit of "start small but start" and this whole section from his website: "Adventure is only a state of mind. Adventure is stretching yourself; mentally, physically or culturally. It is about doing what you do not normally do, pushing yourself hard and doing it to the best of your ability. And if that is true then adventure is all around us, at all times. Even during hard financial times such as these. Times, I believe, when getting out into the wild are more enjoyable, invigorating and important than ever." ... just brilliant, right? I think the whole thing's really in the spirit that Steve started this whole shebang about. Any thoughts? I've got a little bit of time off work coming up myself and think I may just take Alistair up and do a few of these things that have been tickling the back of my mind. It just so happens that there is a hill I've wanted to bike out to and sleep on! I'll throw a little trip report on here after - it'd be great if anyone else did the same. Cheers.
  5. I'm so pumped, this will be the first three day weekend I can actually take fully off in around 2 years!
