  1. So, I bought a Wii U (yeah, I know I'm seven years out of date). After my wife saw a second-hand Wii Balance Board for sale, we now have Wii Fit U and we exercise using it every week day. The great thing about Wii Fit is that has the gamification built in. You earn credits by exercising longer. You unlock harder exercises by getting better at the more basic exercises. The Fit Meter is great at encouraging us to walk more. Anyway, I created a bodyweight strength training routine, based on the Nerd Fitness basic bodyweight strength training routine, using the available Wii Fit U exercises. If anyone else around here has played with Wii Fit, perhaps you could advise me on ways in which this routine could be improved or it could be a starting point for others: Bodyweight strength training routine Warm-up: Free-step (10-mins) (I do this with hand-weights, planning to level-up to dumbbells this week) Strength-training (repeat three times): Rowing Squat (instead of bodyweight squat; with hand-weights/dumbbells) Push-up and Side Plank Lunge Single-leg Reach (with hand-weights/dumbbells - this is the closest I could think of to the dumbbell rows) Plank Side-lunge (this is the closest I could think of to Jumping Jacks) Jackknife (just an extra one I threw in for my abs; I do this with hand-weights/dumbbells) Is this good enough? Would other Wii Fit U exercises be more beneficial?
  2. Hi, my name is Mark. I've only been here a day, but I like that this Challenge thing is something I'd like to do. I was told on the IRC channel not to collect underpants, so I'm starting now instead of my normal procrastination. You can see my intro here: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/47686-new-rebel-girmann-v10/ This is my latest attempt to try and get fit. The last time I was even close to fit was back in 2008 when I was running 10ks and half marathons. I injured myself a lot since then. Since I seem to be prone to overuse injuries, my goals are modest and they are an attempt to rectify all the issues I've had in the past. Main Quest: Afer doing a lot of thinking, I think that I want to keep it simple for my first challenge and just say "Get more fit without getting injured". There's plenty of time for the other things on my list (like PRing a 5k, for instance.) If I can start working out in earnest and not hurt myself over the next 6 weeks, I'll be in a good spot. Specific Missions: 1. Complete C25k in <10 weeks. This, of course, runs past the challenge window - but it gets me doing the exercise I love the most. 2. Do Beginner Dody Weight Workout 1x/wk. Reading it over - it's goingt o be a challenge, since I've never really done any kind of lifting. We'll see how it goes. Originally I wanted to do 2x/wk, but I don't think that gives me enough recovery time. 3. Do Wii Fit Yoga 1x/wk. I hate flexibility training. I've never been flexible - ever. Life Quest: Start sailing classes and purchase a sailboat. This is a family goal - as everyone wants to do this. Motivation: Being alive to see my kids full grown. The last few months I've gotten heavier and I've felt worse - healthwise. It's really got me worried. Starting Stats: Age: 40 Gender: Male Height: 5'10 Weight: 228 Body Fat %: ~31% (BMI calculation, anyway) Neck: 18 inches Waist (belly button): 44 inches I'd be interested to what you think about the challenge? Am I letting myself off the hook too easily? Apologies to TheStephil - I borowed your format. Hope you don't mind.
  3. I am an absolute amateur at Yoga - My experience include's roughly 2 years of attempting yoga routines on my Wii Fit balance board, on and off - never on a consistent basis. Most recently, my experience has been with p90x's Yoga routine, which is a lot more intense. One thing I like about doing yoga on the Wii,Balance Board, is that is measures my center of balance and can track, to a certain degree of accuracy, the form i am using or shifting my weight properly. I have noticed however, that when I do certain poses the way the instructor on p90x says to do it, on a Wii Balance Board, it says my balance is off, or I am using the wrong form. Which is a more accurate, in telling me what the correct form is. I am eager to learn more yoga, as I believe it will help with my posture (something that is drastically needed), and I have a strong hypothesis that it can make improvements to my golf game. Does anyone else have an experience like that, using yoga to make improvements in other areas such as sports?
