  1. It's been crazy here since it happened. I knew they would come eventually, but I still wasn't fully prepared. My family are spread across the country - they know the procedures, what to do, how to survive. They're waiting for me, and I have to get there. But they are everywhere... Goals: LIFT! You're at a dead end. Zombies are closing in from every side. Your only way out is over the fence behind you, can you make it? 3x chin-ups by the end of the challenge. Still can't manage pullups, but can do 1x almost-chin on a good day, so I'll start there instead of with the unreasonable goal of pullups. Progression! +2 STR MOVE! You're moving down a hallway littered with debris. You can hear the zombies throughout the building, but they can't hear you. Will you get out without making a noise? Still working on coordination and balance, kickboxing has improved it enough that they offered me the upgrade to leadership, which brings access to "flow" classes (stringing loads of movements together in a damned sexy way, requiring coordination, balance and skill.) They only have them twice a month, so I'll aim for two but don't know if it's easily feasible, so: Take at least one flow class. +2 DEX RIDE! Your family lives 200 miles across the country. The roadways all look like the M25 at rush hour, you couldn't get a car through if you tried - the bike is your only available option for now. Can you get there? London to Brighton bike ride is on the 16th June, and I've met my fundraising target, which means I have to suit up. My goal? Complete L2B in full zombie attire. +2 STA - Completed 16/06/2013 EAT! You're running as hard as you can. A pack of slavering zombies is hot on your heels. You're starving and your legs are on fire, you just don't have the energy. Will you make it? I've not been eating enough, easily 1000 calories under maintenance on most days and that doesn't include exercise. Now trying to eat minimum 2000 net calories a day as per MyFitnessPal - no cake/chocolate/crisps to bump the numbers. +3 CON STRETCH! You've been camped out for days, planning your next move. A crash and a groan to the north indicates the imminent arrival of zombies. You run, but your muscles seize and cramp. How far will you get? Every Monday I struggle with the first 20mins of my commute. My legs/hips are tight and miserable, because I don't do much over the weekend. I'm aiming to stretch 20mins per day on weekends to prevent these Monday cycling blues. +1 WIS WARPAINT! Killing zombies and looking good doing it? This is my goal. Do the makeup thing. There's a payday just gone, and a payday smack in the middle of this challenge. There's no real excuse. +3 CHA - Am a pretty princess 03/07/2013 Bonus goals: SHOOT! Zombies surround you, there's one way out: straight through the middle. Take out as many as you can and run! But how good is your aim? Take a shooting class. No real excuses, as the shop my dad runs does lessons out the back. I've wanted to do this forever, but keep putting it off. Maybe I'll be more accountable this time. +1 DEX SAVE! Money is useless now, but it would've bought the provisions you needed before. Why didn't you try harder? £1,500 £1,000 in a savings account by the end of the challenge. There's £1,300 in there now, but that will probably decrease a little as the month happens, then jump again as paydays happen. Edit: It just dawned on me how unrealistic it is to say £1,500 when my partners birthday is at the beginning of July and I love spending money on him, so I've dropped target a little +1 WIS Current stats: Weight: 147lbBust: 33"Waist: 26"Hips: 35"Thigh: 21.5" Deadlift: 70kgBench: 45kgOverhead press: 32.5kgChin-up: 1x 3/4ish Week #1 will already be a bit of a write-off, as my exams are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, making the weekend a two-day bender, but I'm going to do my best to do the eating thing from the start. Fingers crossed.
  2. For the record - I am fat, and trying to lose weight. This is my battle log. The Title of my battle log, is a line from the movie Zombieland:
  3. The rain fell heavily against the stone as Fear made his way up the mountain pass to where his dojo was located... The journey had been long and full of pain... It had taken it's toll on Fear, emotionally and physically... Rounding the bend, he found nothing but ruins. A fire had burned the entire place to the ground. Based on the state of things, it had been this way for some time... Fear fell to his knees, feeling that terrible loss, screaming out in rage! Why! Why had so many things, people, places that were dear to him been taken away in such a short time! "What have I done wrong!" he screamed at the top of his lungs in the middle of the storm... but there was no answer but the flash of lightning and a crash of thunder, miles away. Fear sobbed... he cried out from the depths of his soul, with more pain that one person can bare, and then, darkness embraced him, and the world he knew crumbled away completely. ----- "I was so cold, so alone...and the next thing I remember was dreaming...I haven't done since I was a child." Fear said, swallowing down pieces of fish quickly. "I feel like I haven't eaten in a life time." "You haven't." said the figure sitting across the fire from him in a raspy voice, face hidden under a long black hood. "Arise and go forth. The fires of rebirth are upon you. The cold flame consumes you and you will be remade." "Am I...Dea-" Suddenly that cold feeling ran through Fear again. The fire disappeared and the rain was pounding once more against stone. He awoke, laying face down on the stone. Opening his eyes to see the rain, mixing with fresh blood. Rolling over, he quickly got to his feet and surveyed the area. 4 men, dead, lay around him. "How...how did I...what..." Fear struggled to comprehend what happened, the last thing he remembered was screaming and the lightning flashing. "There's nothing left for me here...I must go home..." Fear stood, turned, and began the long journey home... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's been a while NF! How the heck are ya? I've gone through some REALLY rough crap lately, hence the story stuff above. My emotions, spirituality, and physicality have all taken a hit. I've put on weight, my stress has increased, and frankly, I'm really frustrated with how I look and feel. So, F it. I need my support, friends, and family to push me and help me out... A big thank you to Kibcy and Croman Red for keeping in touch with me throughout this. I REALLY appreciate it more than you know. Thank you so much! So here we go. I'm late, but as they say, better late than never.. 1. Kick soda...again. - Water, water everywhere, now just freaking drink it! -- NO SODA. Period. Not one. This is a pass/fail. Pretty simple, but an easy way for me to cut those calories down, reducing my intake and helping drop weight again. +2 con + 1 Charisma 2. Get moving...again. - Got a new iphone, starting over with Zombies, Run. I will go running at least 3 times a week, completing one mission each time. It'll continue to help me drop the weight, burn those calories, and get me loosened up and active. +1 Str +2 Charisma 3. Bodyweight... ho! - I will do a bodyweight workout on the days I don't run. Convict Conditioning and/or the NF BW workouts. - +3 str 4. Life goal - Get through this madness, sadness, and funk by doing things that make me happy at least twice a week. (Play a game, parkour, etc.) +1 Charisma for not being such a grouch to be around. Thank you all for your support, friendship, etc. It means a lot more than words will do justice. ~ Fear
  4. Let's see ..... I'm not sure if I've missed one or two challenges now. I hit rough patch and dropped out of Nerd Fitness during the dead of winter and a fit of depression. I've been continuing to run and strength train a little --- because I want to do a Zombie adventure run this summer and Cline gave me great ideas of how to train for it. (Thanks again, Cline!) I tried doing Weight Watchers with hubby --- did not work out too well. I end up eating a lot of packaged foods trying to stick to the points allotment and feel like I'm going to glow in the dark and BECOME a zombie instead of run from them. Not good. But, I'm back. Back to hanging out with fun nerds who are also into fitness. Because you generally DO inspire me to do better and meet my goals. Go us! Goals this challenge are very basic: Fitness Goals - run a 5K (+3 STA, +1 STR) - lose 6 pounds (+3 CON, +1 WIS) - workout 30 minutes per day (+1 STA, +1 CON, +1 WIS) Life Goal - draft at least one article for journal publication (+4 WIS) How to achieve these goals? Well, I'm running. Each week, I will run 3 to 4 times: alternating trail runs, 5K runs, 5K training interval runs (from https://www.zombiesrungame.com/ --- I love these game developers), and speed work outs. I have new running shoes and am pulling together the rest of my running gear. I'm also using my Bowflex to get ready for obstacles if I get into an adventure run. Losing weight might be a bit ambitious, but I've been cycling up and down 4 pounds since last fall. I'm going to crush the floor and get down a couple more pounds this time. I know what to eat - I used to be at my ideal weight when I ate protein, fruits, and veggies. So, I'll weigh myself each morning and if I'm not at my goal for the week, I'll be extra vigilant to avoid empty carbs, including wine. *quiet sob* Workout 30 minutes per day should not be hard. Even if I take a walk around campus to clear my head for 30 minutes, that will be good enough. If I make it a priority, I'll do it. Writing 1 to 2 articles. I was very surprised to learn - last week - that the article I thought was pulled from a journal (and part of the reason I was so depressed .....) actually was accepted!! Now, I have to flesh out the proposal and get it finished. I have until December, but I don't want to procrastinate. Because I have more that need to be written. So, at least that one will be done by the end of May. Basics. Boring. Just gotta do 'em. 'Cuz I know they work.
  5. I'm looking to start the Couch to 5K in this new challenge and I'm looking around for a cool app to use. I really wanted to use "Zombies, Run", but part of my fitness goals is not to spend money. I know most people would just say, "It's only 3.99!!!!", but its kind of a principle thing with me. I can do this. I don't need to buy a bunch of shiny stuff to make it happen. Anyway, anybody have a good experience with a free running app? It doesn't have to be 5K specific. It also, doesn't have to be free if you just LOVE the one you paid for - let me know. I'll check it out.
  6. Anyone else played this? I guess it was a Kickstarter not too long ago, but now they are in full swing. My buddy brought it over a few days ago and it was super fun. It's a collaborative style game (i.e. you work together against the Zombies) and you all either win or lose. Anyone else out there played it? Anyone already ready for the expansion pack (I believe coming in March)? http://guillotinegames.com/en/

  8. I'm new to Nerd Fitness but not new to dieting. I want to take matters into my own hands, stop trying to follow other people's diets that never quiet work, and start creating my own best eating habits. Everybody is unique. I know what I want to eat, and I know what I ought to eat. I'm gonna try to balance that out to keep me both happy about my meals AND my waistline. I'm an Adventurer and I think that sounds very cool. Maybe someday I'll be able to advance on to Assassin or something. But Adventurer is exactly right for me right now because I'm undertaking a pretty big adventure this year, getting fit and healthy and having fun doing it for a change! I'm not a gamer, but I think I've figured out how this is all supposed to work. Diet Goal Eat at least 3 fruits and veggies every day. [CON] 3 I can be pretty lax about this so I need to make a conscious effort and start building the habit of putting fruits and veggies on the table, or grabbing them for a snack instead of other options. 0-4 days missed = A, 5-8=B, 9-12=C, 13-16=D, 17+=F Exercise Goal [sTR] 2, [DEX] 2 Two days of Angry Birds and three days of Zombies, Run! every week. I like Angry Birds because I'm at different levels for different skills and I like the idea of getting stars and leveling up. Zombies, Run is a fun running app that's been motivational for me, and it gets me moving on my mini-trampoline to evade the zombie hoards chasing me. 6 weeks without fail = A, 5=B, 4=C, 3=D, 2=F Adventure Goal [sTA] 4 Reach the top of four separate walls in one climbing session. Today I went climbing for the first time, and I'm gonna have blisters I think. But I did make it to the top of one wall, and I really like the view from up there. So I went ahead and purchased a pass for five more visits. By my fifth visit, I hope to make it up four different walls, all the way to the top. They might be beginner level, but I'm a raw beginner and I gotta start somewhere. 4 walls = A, 3=B, 2=C, 1=D, 0=F Life Goal Clean for 5 minutes every day. [WIS] 2, [CHA] 2 This is a good tip I picked up from Nerd Fitness. I can say I don't have time to clean, but five minutes is so very doable, and a lot can be done in that time. It's just the act of getting started that can hopefully keep me going for longer than those five minutes, and maybe I can bring some order to the chaos that is my home. I'm assigning Wisdom and Charisma on this one because it's wise to be tidy and to simplify, plus I'll be making my home more attractive and maybe myself in the process. 0-4 days missed = A, 5-8=B, 9-12=C, 13-16=D, 17+=F
