  1. Anyone from Singapore in this forum?
  2. So I'm 23, 5'2" and hoping to get some direction on getting in shape and probably loosing weight. I've always had low self esteem when it comes to body image ( thanks media) Here's a photo of where I am at now. I have no upper body strength but really strong legs from so much biking and it's always stayed. I heard beach body and shakeology are good. I want to look toned like you see people wearing the Nike outfits
  3. One of the best days I've had in a long time. Short background story. I've had a dress in my closet that I haven't been able to fit in for a while. I kept it hanging there as an incentive. After months of running on the treadmill for hours and hours, trying to burn off fat, I found NF a few weeks ago, and it sounded so fun, and smart, and different, and.... I joined the Academy. I've been working through step by step. I've been reading the archives, and grazing the forums, eating up the resources. I'm still vey much in the beginner stages, feeling somewhat guilty for having so much fun instead of torturing myself on the treadmill. Back to the point, I've been weighing in about once a week: absolutely no change. In fact I gained a pound, and added half a percentage point of body fat. BUT this morning on a whim, I tried on the dress. It fit like a dream. It wasn't tight in my hips or thighs. It didn't catch on my tummy. It felt great. Within five minutes of getting to work I got 4 compliments and they kept coming all day long! I've been trying to figure out what's so different, I'm not quite sure if it s the exercise, the attention to diet, just having fun, or what (I'm assuming a combo of everything). Seriously, it's only been three weeks! Steve is right, the scales lie! Thank you Steve for this! You've proven to me that three weeks of doing the smart way works! I don't care anymore what the scales say. It's all about how I feel, and how much today can be better than yesterday.

I want to loose fat in my chest and get build more muscle overall. Thanks a lot! I really appreciate any replies or advice given!
  5. Greetings!! Quick question for you lovely folks. I just purchased an awesome pair of Reebok Nano 2.0 shoes in a size 8. I usually wear an 8 in everyday shoes and an 8.5 in running shoes, but I heard these ran long, so I bought the 8. They fit, but my toe feels like it's bumping the front of the shoe a bit. Would y'all recommend going up to an 8.5, or does the shoe stretch a bit? It's not uncomfortable, but I haven't worn them to a WOD yet. Returns and shipping is all free, so returning for another size is not a problem, but I wanted to see if anyone had the same issue at first. I've heard some people say this is a shoe that, once you wear it in, it stretches a bit. Thanks!! Here's the shoe
  6. This is a video (Mini-Documentary) to inspire all and to show what you can do with your body in only 28 days when you quit drinking, change your diet, and are active everyday!
  7. Hello to everyone. My name is Joaquín, this is my first challenge ever. I'm from Argentina, 25 years old and almost 10 kg above my desired weight. I've been following the blog for a while and today I came across the challenge, read some stories and got inspired to start. I really like sports and being active, but I get injured pretty usually because I'm a out of shape and quite a procrastinator. Main Quest = Lose 10 kg before summer ( December) Quest 1= Walk 30 minutes everyday Quest 2= Stop eating trash food and candies on weekdays Quest 3= Eat 2 servings of fruit per day. Life Quest = Manage to overcome procrastination and finish my grad thesis.

  9. Our story begins a long time ago, in a turn-based, text-based, role playing game called Vagabond's quest... TL;DR And ends, 12 years later, with me married to another gamer and expecting our first child together. When I joined The Rebellion, I was looking to lose weight, but the reality is that I'm 28 years old, the proverbial 'clock' scares the dickens out of me, and I told The Hubster that I'd either be at my goal weight or be a mother within a year. In my first challenge with The Rebellion, I actually lost about 8 pounds! I had busted through my first goal of 6 pounds and came out on top. I've been away for a while, dealing with this new and different experience, and now I'm returning about 7 or so weeks into my pregnancy. My main challenges have been Lack of sleepheartburnlack of appetite(followed by) roaring appetiteI've been walking quite a bit, and plan to keep that up. I was just getting into strength training in earnest and so I plan to keep going with that as long as it still feels good. Since I'm overweight by so much that my BMI is a concern for my doctor, my goal is to not gain any more than 15 lbs throughout the course of this pregnancy. I have *no idea* how I'm going to manage that, but I'm going to try everything I know about traditional weight loss to accomplish it. My home scale before the pregnancy was 238. My home scale now reads 240. The doctor's scale had me at 243 at my first check up back on 7/21. Now that you know the back story, let's get down to the battle log, eh? Primary Objective: Have a Healthy Pregnancy Walk >20 Minutes, Daily Strength Train 3x/week Continue with Paleo Plan Secondary Objective: Stay Active with Nerd Fitness Check in to chat rooms at least once/week update this thread daily motivate 3+ NF members/week
  10. First challenge for me so I'm going to focus on improving just a bit in each catagory and see where I'm most comfortable. Going to focus on mostly dealing with anxiety because I have reacently started getting severe migrains. They are so severe that I'm at the point of doing anything to prevent them but I would prefer to treat them the natural way. so for six weeks I will be : ~Giving up caffine in all forms but hot tea, diet soda and migrains are a no-go according to the doctor. ~transitioning to the paleo diet by cutting out sugar and complex carbs(God I love wheat thins heh) ~Learning to let go of the small stuff and destressing by turning off the 24 hour newsfeeds that follow us around everywhere we go. ~down sizing my material possesions and giving my extras to those in need, if I haven't used it in over a year than it's off to the PTA ~Breathing meditations and begginer's yoga, 20 mins in the morning ~Reading at least 2 books on philosophy, I'm guilty of the netflix marathoning habit lately and staring at the screen can apparently trigger migrains. A nice, simple start that I'm sure will have rather signifcant impacts on my day to day, I wish you all luck!
  11. April 24, 2104 And so the journey begins... A quick look back in the rearview mirror: I was fit and happy and loving life - met my baby daddy, got pregnant, got married, gained 40 pounds, and had a beautiful baby girl. Lost 15 pounds, got pregnant again, gained 30 more pounds (and this time I had a handsome baby boy!) Tried to lose weight - but with a toddler, a newborn, and a full time job I found it hard to get back to the way it was. Tried walking, tried weights around the house, lost 3 pounds in 4 weeks and was DEPRESSED. Soooooooo....I researched and decided to give low carb a chance and was pleasantly surprised when I started losing weight – to date I have lost 17 pounds, which means I have 33 more pounds to go… By no means have I been 100% low carb. 4 weeks after I started, we went down to Disney World and I had a delicious red velvet cake pop. OK, I had two. But they were sooooo good! I also had 2 margaritas and some chips and salsa. THEN…Spring Break…went to the beach and found some really good Tybee Island Blonde beer. BUT, I am happy to report when I stepped on the scale after all of that, I had not gained any weight. WOO-HOO! Tuesday, April 22, 2014 I joined Nerd Fitness and I also started the Beginner’s Body Weight Workout. WHOA. Man, I was sore yesterday…. Today, April 24, 2014 I want to start writing down what I eat, so that others can see it and make comments on what I am doing right or what I could be doing better. So, don’t be shy – I handle constructive criticism very well! Breakfast – bottle of cold water, Atkins Protein Shake with coffee and a spoonful of chicken salad. Lunch – Leafy greens, turkey bacon bits, 1 tablespoon of sunflower seeds, steak strips and avocados Supper – Going to a seafood restaurant for a retirement party – I plan to get some grilled shrimp and a good salad. NO FRIED SHRIMP! NONE.
  12. Hello everyone. My name is John, I'm 32, married, have a 4 yr old daughter who is my sunshine. I'm from California, 5'6, and I weigh 180 lbs. I'm just going to try and be completely honest and without making any excuses. My wife and I are overwieght, we eat so horribly, love junk food, soda, and sweets. We are always tired and out of shape. And our bad eating habits are spilling over to our daughter, we get all the cheap, bad, processed stuff for us to eat. I'm on social security, I have a hearing aid on one ear, and a cochlear implant for the other. My wife works at a school kitchen. I won't speak for my wife, but I will say for me, I am pretty much lazy, back is bad, I sit at the computer all day every day. I suffer from heart burn, and acid reflux. I am completely out of shape. I came across the Nerd Fitness website, and was blown away by a lot of the stuff I read. Don't even know how I came across it. I am all of the above, no excuses. BUT, I do have the desire and want to change all that. I'm sick and tired of living this unhealthy way. Sometimes literally. We can't afford two separate eating lifestyles, so my wife and I are both on the same page to try and make changes. My short term goal is to lose 30 lbs. But my life long goal to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We currently don't do any kind of exercising. We plan to start next month with this whole Paleo Diet thing. But it's so overwhelming and i have so many questions, don't know where to start. We can be quite picky with foods. Besides water, what other drinks can we have with meals, that are easy and cost effective? What about breakfast? What can we eat for that? what about someone who doesn't work at an office type environment? What can my wife take to eat on the go that will stick with the Paleo Diet? I am more than willing to cook meals, and learn new things. We can't start the Paleo until next month, for many reasons. But, I am more than willing to start on some exercise. I know we are supposed to warm up before doing anything but uh......how do we do that? lol I am a total noob sorry. Thank you all for having me, and I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm very overwhemed. Hello and nice to meet you.
  13. Hi, I know I am late for the challenge but I would like to start anyway. I am a 32 year old woman and will be 33 on Tuesday and I thought my birthday would be a good starting point for my fist challenge. I live on planet metric, but I will try to calculate my stats for you: I am 5' 7" tall and I weigh 187 lbs (1,70m/85kg). I did the BBWW twice already and I can do it three times but I need a 20sec break before the third round. And it kills me completely. I do assisted pull ups instead of the dumbbell rows because I would really like to be able to do one real pull up. Or two. Which would make me Super Grover. Main Quest Be stronger, feel like Super Grover. Goals Do the BBWW three times a week. Drink alcohol like a sane, grown up person on weekdays. Don't eat lunch in the cafeteria. Eat good instead. Life Quest Draw something every day. Motivation I realized that I do not care very much about how I look. I get mistaken for a guy at least 5 times a week. I don't care at all. I do care about how fit and strong I feel though. I'd rather be mistaken for a 16 year old skater boy than for a beardless fat guy.
  14. Hey Everyone, So I am Jeremy, otherwise known as Omnianimaphobia, an I'm a gowk. Simple math Geek + Jock = Gowk. I am a group fitness instructor, assistant director of a fitness center, marathoner, paleo enthusiast, obstacle course racer, on and on and on. I am here cause I want to encourage everyone to stay active, get happy, and enjoy life! If I can help, I'll do my best! Never been a big forum person, but NF seemed right up my alley. Looking forward to reading everyones stories and maybe even learning a bit at the same time as well.
  15. Hey all! I am just getting back into working out. I know how to use the equipment at the gym, and the basics of fitness. What I don't have is a routine... Things I like: hiking, dance, group classes, yoga, light weight lifting I have a significant amount of weight to lose. My current goal is to exercise 3-4 days a week for approximately an hour at a time. Does this seem sensible?
  16. Hey! I'm a beginner, I've just register and see that there was a remaining challenge so I decided to take it seriously and do it. I hope to not fall into temptation, for that I have to have willpower and I am going to have it!! Main goals: -Reduce the sugar, junk food and fried food. -Set up in good habits and nutrition, like try eating new kind of vegetables and finding out tasty healthy food. -Leave the laziness and exercise more. Sub-goals: -Start going out running for improving my endurance. -Increase the amount of "good" calories that I eat. -Work out minimum three times a week. Life goal: -Start learning a programming language by myself. Motivation: -I want to get into shape and motivate my family to join me. Personal details: Age: 18 Genre: Female Height: 51,8 kg (5'6'') Weight: 1'72m (112 lb) I obviously don't want to lose weight, and either gain it in fat, in case I gain weight it will be only in muscle.
  17. Ok, so here I am. New to the forums, but I need to stay committed. So I'm gonna update on here. Why? Well I think it'd be great to be held accountable. For breakfast, @ 3:30 AM I had an apple and a PB&J. I love those Peanut Butter. For Lunch, I had A McDouble, and a PB&J. I told you I loved them. (BTW, I'm keeping it honest here. I'm not gonna lie... Yeah I ate roasted duck, over rice pilaf with steamed broccoli, although I wish I could.) For Dinner, I'm working on some ground beef/salady type meal. Exercise, Beginner's Body Weight Circuit and 15 minute walk, just short of a mile.
  18. Hi! I'm new and have been lurking for a couple weeks. I wasn't sure if I was ready until I tried on my cosplay outfit for comic-con and realized that even though it had only been purchased a month prior, it no longer fit. I have always struggled with my weight. Sometimes I feel like I'm winning the battle, but most of the time I give up after not seeing progress fast enough or falling of the wagon. This time is different. I am no longer thinking of this as a temporary struggle before I can get back to my cupcakes. This is a life change and failure is not an option. My inspiration is below. I look to my favorite video game gals for support and now I look to Nerd Fitness too! I'm so excited to be here and thank you for reading!
  19. Hi! I'm Joey and this is my first time participating in a challenge on this site. I'm a fat guy working on becoming...well, not a fat guy. I'm 23, I'm 5'9", and I weigh 325 lbs. I have a beautiful Pitbull named Bodhi, I work a part-time job, go to school, and run a bakery out of my kitchen (not awesome while dieting). I have recently decided to change the standards by which I live and I've put proper diet and exercise very high on my priorities list. After a month of making changes and sticking to them I have lost 15 pounds and feel great! I am ready to start setting some attainable goals and going after them with all I've got. Here are the goals I have set for the next six weeks: Goal #1 Go to the gym at least 5 times a week A= 30 gym visits or more B= 25-29 C= 20-24 D= 15-19 F= >15 Goal #2 Lose 20 lbs A= 20< B= 15-19 C= 10-14 D= 5-9 F= >5 Goal #3 Keep record of each workout to track progress and make noticeable progress in strength and stamina A= Keep all records and make great progress B= Keep all records and make some progress C= Keep some records and make some progress D= Keep few records and make little progress F= failure to complete either task Goal #4 Set enough money aside to go to all four days of FloydFest! A= 4 day ticket B= 3 day ticket C= 2 day ticket D= 1 day ticket F= not attending Ok, so there it is, I'm off to get cracking on these bad boys! I hope to hear from some people with similar goals and I wish everyone SUCCESS with the challenge! EAT CLEAN TRAIN MEAN!!!! Later, -Joey
  20. So this is my first challenge! Fitness related goals: 1. Run 5km 2. Keep my weight within 55-57kgs 3. Go to the gym 5 days a week Lifestyle goal: 1. Pay $1000 of debt In saying this, I do plan to develop muscle so if I was to go over 57kgs it would only be from muscle. I plan on keeping my eating clean like it has been for the past month (no junk food!) I have also attached a picture at the beginning of my challenge and will post a picture again at 3 weeks and at 6 weeks
