  1. Hello! So if you follow my challenge last time you know that I recently started a new job and my posting here has suffered. So I'm keeping my challenge simple and making being here a priority. I forgot to get this up until now, but I have been working Quest 1: Side crow - This time I want to get that 5 second hold each side. I will work on my side crow at least 3 times a week. Quest 2: Splits - I have them on the left, now I need the right side. I will work on my flexibility 4 times a week Quest 3: Participation - I will post an update on my challenge and post on someone else's challenge at least 4 times a week. Quest 4: Kettlebells - This is a multi-part quest. My first goal will be to get enough amazon gift cards (though swagbucks) to purchase the Simple & Sinister book, and I want to complete that in the first week. (Side note, I've done it and ordered the book!) My second goal is to read the book in the second week of the challenge (which I will be traveling for part of). My third goal is to implement the plan and do it at least 5 times a week for the final two weeks of the challenge. (Quest 5 is unofficial: Work on the dang Mini-Challenge!) Some bookkeeping: I'm traveling for the majority of the 2nd week (I'm in a friends wedding), so I'm adjusting my goals for that week. I'm once again running my challenge Monday-Sunday, so it's currently Wednesday and day 3 of the challenge. 2. I have never been able to sit on my heels. Ever. I've been a ballet dancer, a practitioner of kendo and yoga, and I've never been able to sit on my heels. Even at my most flexible. Now I am young and female, so the answer does not lie that way. Better yet, I've found what appears to be a solution, I just want to know if anyone has tried something similar and how often. Other options are also welcome! Shril p.s. I can touch my toes, Penny. Just not my sit bones to my heels.
  3. Hello everyone! My name is Brandon and I am new to the rebellion. I am looking forward to meeting some new people and learning new things. As such I have some questions. Among my goals here are losing weight, gaining better overall health, and gaining some flexibility. Large and vague I know but I will be narrowing down and defining these goals in the future. I am also pretty new to yoga but look forward to really getting into it and unlocking my body and mind's potential. One of my obstacles though is a huge lack of flexibility! I have for the longest time wanted to be able to touch my toes without bending my knees. This is something I don't ever remember being able to do :-(. As mentioned above I am also working on losing weight. I have 70 pounds to reach my goal weight ( 40 pounds of which I gained in the last year alone). I sometimes feel that my gut is simply just in the way of being able to reach my toes but I also know it has a lot to do with a general stiffness of my back, hips and hamstrings. Now that I've rambled on, here are my primary questions: 1. Does anyone have any recommendations on good routines or specific poses to work on for gaining flexibility? 2. How often should I be stretching or practicing poses? 3. How long should I hold each stretch / pose? 4. Do I need to worry about overstretching? I know you can over train in strength training due to muscles needing time to rebuild but not sure if its the same for trying to increase elasticity. 5. What would you guess to be a reasonable timeline in reaching a measurable goal, i.e. being able to touch my toes? I know everyone is different and things that come easily and quickly to some takes others much longer. I'm really looking for some general guidelines so I can set a timeline for my flexibility goals. I look forward to reading any comments and advice. I really look forward to being able to tie my shoes without having to hold my breath and feel like I am going to break a bone or joint in the process!
