  1. I'm back (again). Things got a bit crazy the last couple of months, and I had to take time for myself. Do some soul searching and such. But yeah, I really missed this place. For the people that don't know me: I'm Terah*. A 35 year old from the Netherlands. Fitness enthousiast, dance fanatic, and I love playing sims I'm married to William, also 35 years old And we have two awesome sons: Peter (9) and Cory(7) We live in a small city in the Netherlands. We bought a new home two years ago and are loving the new environment. (It's actually in the middle of a row of similar homes, but that was a bit hard to copy in the sims) Mental health update Early December I came across a youtube video were someone talked about the differences between men and women on the autistic spectrum. And with every characteristic she described in females I thought "that's me". So naturally I asked doctor google, did a few online tests, watched some more youtube video's and now I suspect that I am on the spectrum. It explains so much: why I don't like being touched, why I have trouble making eye contact, why I'm often weird in conversations, why I can't follow a group conversation, why everyday tasks sometimes seem insurmountable. I don't know if I want an official diagnoses. I want to try to make sense of it on my own first. And on top of that: a few weeks ago the child psychologist that runs the Social Skill class Peter visits told me she suspected him of having autism. Which didn't came as a surprise after everything I read about it. She still needs to test him to make sure though. No more dancing classes My boys have started official swimming lessons. I had tought them all I could, and I thought it would be a good idea to let a professional take over. It's twice a week and they love it But then, at the end of Christmas break my dance teacher announced a change in schedule. The dance classes I took were transferred to Mondays and Thursdays. The same days as the boys swimming lessons. I thought: I'll try to make it. Which ment: Go to swim class at 16:15, be home at 18:30. Change clothes and hop on my bike again to make the class at 19:00, which ended at 20:45. So I'd be back at home at 21:15. I tried it for a month before I gave up, it was just too much. So I paused my subscription to the dance classes. I'll be back once the swimming lessons are over, probably October The challenge This challenge I'm going to gamify my fitness. Just to make it a little more interesting I bought Ringfit for the Switch a month ago and I'm loving it! Fighting monsters doing squats is totally my thing. Also I'll use the Bodybuilding aspiration from the Sims 4 as my goals. I realize this is in Dutch, so here is the translation: 1) Basic trainer Train for 8 hours Train at a gym 2) Training devil 3) Fit with an F 4) Bodybuilder So my first goals are to train for 8 hours and to train at a gym. Since I don't want to pay to train at a gym once, I'll see this as doing something different. Like following a YouTube workout or something. (Yes, I totally put the tv on the coffeetable to workout. IRL I just move the coffee table ) *All names have been changed to protect our secret identity. As all superheroes have
  2. Ryuu Levels Up! NF Challenge #10 11/26-12/23 100/100hp 0 Exp Health Crystal 1 [+50hp] I had originally planned to get this challenge up and running a lot earlier in the week but because of my surgery (had my wisdom teeth taken out last Saturday) and the resulting pain and recovery I've had delayed my start date for this challenge. 3. Howdy, guys! I’m back for challenge #2 of my respawn! Last challenge went all right, but needed some tweaking for the second round. Goals are staying roughly the same, or within the same vein, and I’ve made things a bit more interesting. Not only do I have an actual theme this time around, but I’ve also done some gamifying! This challenge is wholly inspired by Cowboy Bebop, which is one of my all time favourite animes (right along side Ghost in the Shell). This show came about in the late 90’s (early 2000’s for the US), and was quite progressive for it’s time. I used to stay up until ridiculous hours just to watch it in my early high school years. As I never got around to watching every episode back then, the BF and I have been going through the series over the last week. I’ve grown a new appreciation for it, and it saddens me that I haven’t found anything modern that even comes close to being on par as it (if anyone knows of any, let me know!!). Well, without much ado, lets get this thing started! Cowboy Bebop Intro
  4. Hello Everybody, So, I had a great challenge last time: So, I want to build on that. The point idea seems to be working for me, so I am keeping that concept. Being a nerd, the points are getting a little over-complicated, so I'm combining a few things into a single category. Changes: 1. Increase walking time slightly 2. Keep building on my bodyweight exercises 3. Start tracking the Rising Hero stuff 4. Most importantly, start working with my exercise mace, and learn some of the moves, like this: For this challenge, if I did 100%, I would garner 2500 points. A success is 1750pts, 1850 pts is good, 2150pts is big win. Details and template below the fold:
  5. Hello Everybody, I just got back from a big meeting in my field, and am eager to get on with this challenge. It's snowy and icy here, but these do not stop a ranger: Last challenge, I used a points system, which worked really well for me, and I made my goals. So, I am going to stick with what works, and keep working about running up the score. If I achieve my goals this time, I will get some spiffy yoga blocks of my own (I've been using my wife's). If I get to the good score, I will add onto my rewards, and get my exercise mace video. There are 570 points for each week (2280 if I do everything), and last time I got a score of 1647 points. So, success will be 1700 points. 1800 points is good, and 2100 is excellent. Details below the fold, for those who are interested.
  6. Hello Everybody, My challenge this time is similar to my last ones, except for the following differences: A ranger is adaptable - so instead of my all-or-nothing attitude, I will go to a point system. All-or-nothing is not a good strategy for me, and I wanted to make this more gamelike. I will focus on bodyweight exercises, mobility and some yoga. I will figure out rewards for achieving certain points. There are 570 points for each week (2280 if I do everything), and I will consider a success if I get 1600 points. 1800 points is good, and 2100 points is excellent. If I achieve 1600 points, I am finally getting my exercise mace. I will add some stuff on if I get more than 1600. Details are below the spoiler:
  7. Hi, friends! I know someone started a thread about this on Facebook, but I can't find it anywhere. Who's on Habitica? Has someone already started a Nerd Fitness party on there for questing?
  8. The rules are simple. As detailed on "The Minimalists" blog, http://www.theminimalists.com/game/: Find a friend or family member: someone who’s willing to get rid of their excess stuff. This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your house—and out of your life—by midnight each day. It’s an easy game at first. However, it starts getting challenging by week two when you’re both jettisoning more than a dozen items each day. Whoever can keep it going the longest wins; you both win if you can make it all month. Bonus points if you play with more than two people. This PVP will start on Sept. 14, 2015 and run for thirty days. Are you in? * Thanks to Rowan the Ranger for instigating this PVP via her post on Rurik the Ranger's challenge thread. 9. Welcome!! This accountability group is a little different - we're playing a game together in the hopes of getting through the upcoming holiday season with both our waistlines and our good spirits intact. You are welcome to join us!! This is a cross-guild group, and even Level 1's may join in if you like. The game is modeled on several easy kid's games, such as Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders. No copyright infringement is intended. Also, it is NOT a well-designed or carefully constructed game. I was going to play this by myself, but the idea intrigued other people; so let's give it a whirl. There are no winners or losers. I hope that everyone gets to the end of the board by the end of the challenge!! We're here to cheer each other on. Maybe engage in a little good-natured ribbing. But I hope to see everyone in the Celebration Square at the end of the challenge!!! Most of the activities you'll undertake to play the game will be decided by YOU. I'll share my lists of adventures, rewards, forfeits (ugh!), and challenges, but I really want this game to be customized to your needs and circumstances. I'm creating some resources that you can download and print out, but those are optional and the game can be played by using dice or rolling random numbers any way that you can (such as using a random number generator on your smart phone). You will need a Google account in order to access the online board. So, if you are interested, read the (yes, rather long) rules post and add your name to the game board. We'll start the game when the challenge begins!
