  1. So okay, hello there... I am just going to do this and then run and hide in the corner My name is PrincessSasiii or Sasiii for short. I am a 23 year old from Germany that spends way to many behind a book, behind her laptop screen spending hours opon hours writing fan fiction and dreamong of a better life. Dreaming of a healthier, skinnier, happier and more confident me. Other then that I like to play on my XBox and spend hours binge-watching about 100 series at the same time. But I am done with that. I don't want to write about that goregous, happy confident self that I dreamed up anymore - I want to become her. And I know that I have been a million times always failing, always getting set back but I am determined to just DO it this time. And I really hope that this site and the board are going to help me by changing myself step by step and this time keep up with it. So if anyone thinks this sounds interesting or just wants to chat I would be happy to Love Sasiii (sorry for any spelling mistakes)
  2. Hey Everyone! So this will be my 2nd challenge. I'm an undergrad studying at university looking to get a B.S. in biomedical engineering. I originally thought I was going to go to med school and then the difficulty of classes (and the amount of time it takes) hit, so right now I'm exploring options and looking into internships. Anyways with fitness, I've really been thinking about getting into weight training and the more I read about it the more excited I am to get into it. I'm not that sure on how to start, but luckily my school offers a weight training gym class and I'm taking that this spring (It starts on Jan 13th and is Mondays and Wednesdays). I'm hoping that will teach me some of the basics and I can learn the rest from research. So onto the goals! Main Goal: Start lifting and get fit! [this is kind of vague, but I've been thinking about this for so long, and I want to do it right. This goal would mean that I'm working on lifting regularly and know how to do some of the basic lifts by the end of the challenge. EDIT: for measuring sake, I would like a pair of jeans I own to fit comfortably again] Missions: Workout at least 2 times a week [2 pts STA, 2 pts CHA] [i'm purposefully leaving this unassigned so that, as I learn more about lifting I can add more of that into my workouts and I also have the ability to decide to do a cardio day] Only have at the most 1 grain a day [3 pts CON] [i'm really interested in starting Paleo, but I'm in love with dairy and I do like to snack on edamame (soybeans). I'm keeping the restriction small because when I'm at school it's really hard to keep myself to my workouts AND keep up with a diet when I have all this stress bombarding me, so that's why I'm just trying one thing slowly. I also have a lack of options for food which makes it really difficult to cut main food groups out so I have hope this will go well.] Learn how to do the basic lifts with Starting Strength program [3 pts STR, 2 pts WIS] [by the end of the challenge, I want to be able to properly do the workout outlined in the Starting Strength 3rd ed. I ordered the book on amazon and should be getting it by Jan 7th!] Life Quest: Do all my homework [3 pts WIS] [This sounds silly when you first read it, but I think it's a necessary goal. I had a lot of classes last semester that had daily homework--it all became too much, and I started skipping assignments when I was overwhelmed. I lost a lot of points that could have given me more leeway when it came to finals and I probably could have gotten some better final grades if I had done all my assignments. So, for this semester, come what may, I will do every homework assignment. God help me.] Looking forward to the new challenge! Starting Measurements 140 pounds [using the right side of the body] wrist: 5 3/4 in upper arm: 9 11/16 in 2 in above the knee: 17 1/2 in 3 in below hip joint: 23 9/16 in hips: 40 3/4 in waist: 28 6/8 in bust: 36 9/16 in
  3. Hello to any one reading! To try my hand at daily logging (which I have never done, really) and to keep myself accountable on things, I wanted to start a log. So here it is! I just moved from California to Maryland for grad school, so things are super different. I'm still getting used to the 3 hour time difference, even though it has been already been a week. I'm also trying to get back into my rebel-ness, which is taking a while. Since I graduated undergrad, I stayed at home for the summer before my big move. I slowly slipped of track. I started off good. I kept my diet pretty reasonable, and tried to teach my parents about the paleo diet. They tried it for a week, but after that I had to lighten up on them because they weren't eating properly. Then with all the 100-115 degree heat outside and my mom wanting me to go with her everywhere, I lost track of working out and eating completely healthy. And I couldn't do my second challenge as a result. Sometimes it is a bit difficult staying on your lifestyle change when you are with family or on outings, because it gets tempting to go back into old, comfortable ways with them. But now I'm trying to get back into the hang of things! I am in grad school and I'm taking a preliminary course for 2 weeks, which is awesome. And I'm trying to get back into the swing of working out. My goal is to do 30 minutes of cardio in the mornings, and then do free weights on weekday evenings. I haven't quite settled on what routine to do with weights, but I'm currently thinking about it. I also have 4 textbook chapters to read tonight. D'oh! Time to get it done.
  4. Hi! I'm Sarah, I'm from Scotland and I like Discworld books, fantasy and ecology! My main quest is to get fit enough to do decent ecological field work up mountains. I've used up too many hours, shiny coins, tears and caffeine tablets studying for a decent biology degree to waste it because I'm too unfit to do the field studies properly. I need to be able to hike up through mountain forests and still be alive enough to do hours of good field science before coming back down again. My three very specific missions for the next six weeks are: - To hike through my local nature reserve and back (8 miles) once a week (on Saturdays). Thus helping me build stamina and strength. The reserve path is fairly flat so the way I can build up from this in the next challenge is to change routes so I go over the rather large hill in the north of the reserve that made me gag last time I climbed it. - To switch to a not-quite-paleo diet suitable for vegetarians. No grains, no processed foods, only unprocessed dairy (whole milk; natural yoghurt, homemade cheese), non-soy meat substitute (mycoprotein - I know it's definitely not ideal and clearly conflicts with "no processed foods" but I would find it extremely hard to stick to the diet without meat substitutes for now, and I plan on phasing this out in favour of protein rich paleo vegetables in the next challenge.) and minimal fresh legumes, again because I don't eat meat. - To do a beginner bodyweight workout thrice a week The Nerd Fitness beginner bodyweight workout on Mondays and Wednesdays, and one from the Art of Manliness website on Fridays because variety is good. Future steps for next challenge will be to increase frequency and/or intensity. My life quest for this challenge is to put at least £5 a week into a savings account. I am too skint to pay in much more than £5 just now but with the "no grains" rule meaning no beer, that's at least a couple of pints' worth of money I'll save every week. Plan on considerably upping the amount (£20/week) once I get a job, with the eventual aim of paying off an £800 bank overdraft and actually having some savings to spend on things like driving lessons. My Motivation (I, uh, can't find my scanner or camera. Ahem. How do you LOSE a scanner?!) I am here because my future career and therefore my future depends on me getting fit enough to be a competent and capable field biologist. I refuse to let my laziness and greediness get in the way of a decent life any more. Time to go shopping for vegetables! I know the challenge doesn't start till the 29th, but if I cook healthy things I can just chuck from the fridge into a saucepan it'll make Monday so much easier! I love experimental cooking, so expect the recipes for things I have cooked that turned out edible in my posts on this thread, along with the occasional progress photo and measurement as soon as I find my camera and measuring tape. Good luck with your own challenges!
