  1. I have always been a little unclear on the ecology of Tatooine. With no apparent sources of food, how does the planet support enough wildlife that the large reptiles such as the great Krayt Dragon have food sources? Yea, I get that they eat Banthas. But what do Banthas eat?? It's a puzzle. Still, I am keeping up with the theme and am still on the trail of the dragon. It's a wily beast that I have fought most of my life (hum ... shades of Moby Dick here ....). This challenge, I'm focusing on tracking and consistency. Overall, these are the main objectives: Research or learning something new ... this challenge, it is the CrossFit Masters Athlete Training PDF Nutrition improvement - WW ... aim to log daily and stay within points each week Exercise focus and socializing outside of work - CrossFit 10+ classes Service component - Charity Miles app and trying to get in about 7+ miles per week Spiritual-emotional component - daily prayer(book) I am tracking in Habitica where we have a Nerd Fitness party and a Guild (join us!!). It might be a bit ambitious, but I have 12 habits that I am tracking. Success is to get 70% or 8 habits tracked each day: 1. Track 7 streaks each day = Success 2. Track meals daily 3. Exercise daily 4. Floss 5. Skin care each night 6. Study master's athlete training daily 7. Stretch 5+ minutes daily 8. Prayer/meditation daily 9. Get 7 hours of sleep daily 10. Once per week - stay within Points values 11. Check in at NF daily 12. Drink 32 oz water daily My primary tools this challenge are: Magic bottle of motivation (my 32 oz water bottle) Belt of swift travel (FlipBelt) Lenses of far-seeing (contact lenses) Tome of Mastery (CrossFit masters training recommendations PDF and other references) Registry of Deeds (Habitica)
  2. Water... Earth... Fire... Air. Long ago, AThousandWords lived in good health and fitness. Then everything changed when a new baby arrived. Only good eating habits and occasional exercise could have saved her waistline. But when her world needed these habits the most, they vanished. A an entire year passed and she discovered new motivation: an awesome Avatar themed challenge. But although her gif skills are great, she still has a lot to learn before she's ready to call herself healthy again. But I believe... AThousandWords can save the world. AThousandWords : Ember Island Interlude I'm getting a late start on this challenge - Memorial Day threw me off; we went out of town for our anniversary and I've been a little resistant to get back into my diet since getting back. But we leave for Hawaii in just three weeks and I want to do my best to feel confident in a bathing suit, so here I am! This will be a short challenge for me: I'll be leaving June 22, so my challenge will only run 3 weeks. So instead of starting "Earth" this challenge, I'm going to treat it like an interlude. I'm drawing on "The Beach" episode for inspiration. Ember Island tends to cause its visitors to go into a sort of self-discovery - likewise, for this challenge I'll be focusing on refining what worked/didn't work from the last challenge, creating new habits, and trying to set myself up for success for my two week trip. ALSO - I'm trying out Habitica for this challenge! I'm still trying to figure out how to convert my NF goals to Habitica and how to track Habitica goals here... so this challenge will be about figuring out what works there, too. I'm going to use Habitica to replace my spreadsheet for this challenge and see how that goes. BANT, BANT, BABY The Banting diet worked really well for me last challenge, so I'm keeping it up. To recap - Here's the Banting Lists and I am loosely following the Transformation phase. I've assigned each list a point value, and I can have up to 3 points a day. In addition, I get an extra 5 points per week, if I want something from the red lists or more from the orange lists. Green List: 0 points Orange List A: 1 point Orange List B: 2 points Red Lists: 5 points Here's how I'm tracking this in Habitica: DON'T BREAK-FAST At the end of the last challenge I mentioned that I was dipping my toe into IF and that so far I really didn't like it. But since then it's sort of growing on me - I think because most mornings I'm just too lazy to eat breakfast. So I'm going to give it a try and fast until noon 4x a week. I don't usually eat after 8pm, so this will be a 16/8 protocol. COMPLETE DAILIES I've defined a few daily tasks in addition to the ones above - like check in on Habitica every day. My goal is to have a 21-day streak for all of these dailies at the end of the challenge. And.... that's it for this challenge. I have a few other habits defined in Habitica, but I don't really want to commit to more than what I have here. So we'll see how it goes! In the meantime, if anyone is super familiar with Habitica and wants to help a newbie out, I'm all ears!
  3. Hello all! My name is Kaitee -- trying out using Kalista Fauner as an alter ego idea, to see if that helps me overcome some of my hangups. I heard about NF through a friend who volunteered at Camp Nerd Fitness this summer. I was totally enamored by the idea and have been lurking around the blog and such for a few months. Finally made a character and joined the forums today. Yay! I am a puppeteer, and have been a performing artist for most of my adult life. And though, very truly, my body is my instrument, I have not taken care of it. I'm not unhealthy, per se. However, I am a little heavy for my height - and my biggest health challenge is my mental health. Luke Skywalker's battle with himself, having to master the monsters in his head, rings very true to me. I have tried to "force" myself into fitness habits. I joined an ilovekickboxing gym near my house -- they are amazing! The instructors are nothing but supportive, as are the other members. It is not about being the fittest or the sexiest, but just pushing yourself. And you know, hitting the bag seemed like a really good stress reliever. I have been a member for six months, and even though I feel AMAZING when I'm there, I really do struggle with attending class. As my therapist calls them: I have a hijacker in my head. I think that a part of me really doesn't think I deserve to feel amazing. I've had some success with gamifying habits before -- I recently started to using HabiticaRPG to gamify some basic life goals. So, I thought maybe it was time to actually join NF. I still have my kickboxing gym, and I want to fully integrate that into my life. Because something I know I am missing is community -- so I'm excited about the NF community, and investing in the IRL FitFam of ILKB. I also have some very tangible benchmarks I want to hit: My dad, brother, and I are planning to summit some 4000 footers in New Hampshire this summer. My dad wants to summit all of them before he's 65. I thought it'd be fun to share that. My hometown holds an annual Thanksgiving Road Race that I have watched my entire life. Next year, I am going to run it. So I have these two milestones within the next year. And I know when I set my mind to something, I can accomplish it. But those brain weevils... that depression and social anxiety is one of my biggest challenges with fitness. I hope that NF can help me combat this weevils.
  4. I’ve become a huge fan of Habitica, as it has really kept my habits and daily tasks on track. The quests and collecting of things is also motivating, as is not killing my party when I don’t do things. Thus, my monster-themed quest! Be forewarned, this is somewhat lengthy. Weapons Training In order to slay monsters, I must be fit and dextrous with my weapons. Training is comprised of: 50 squats per day [sugar craving squats count to this] 10 single leg balances per leg per day 2 weightlifting classes / wk [M, Sa] 2 strength workouts / wk [W + ? ] 1 yoga class / week [su] bonus points if I go to stretch class on Th Defeat the Sugar Demon I love carbs, and sugar, and donuts, and basically any dessert that doesn’t involve bananas. I also get mood swings and generally feel like crap when I eat these things. I did the 21DSD last month and I did not crave sugar while I was on it. In order to slay this Sugar Demon, I must: Do two 21DSDs with the following exceptions: Berries & oatmeal ok 2 drinks allowed on dates Drinks at Camp NF Mom’s birthday meal Attend 2 meetings / week Avoid stress / emotional eating Journal daily Meditate daily [even 2 min counts!] 20 squats whenever I want anything off plan Vanquish the Dating Anxiety Dragon Long story short, I have serious mental blocks when it comes to available men I do not know well and closing the deal. I shall vanquish this dastardly dragon by completing the following tasks: Message 5 men / day, except for week 1 which will be: sign up for PoF sign up for match update OKCupid profile 5 min tinder / day 1 date / week 1 hookup / mo OTHER BOSS QUESTS: Mutant Koala [Australian Drop Bear]Renew PassportApply for TSA precheck / global entry [requires new passport]Apply for visas [requires new passport] The Hellion HoardFollow decluttering schedule [TBD] HOA-AAAAAH HorrorBalance checking accountFollow up with Scott re:condo meeting minutesAsk Mark to call / contact owners to be on a committeeCall AT&T re:business lineReply to Anthony re: condo management TPS TitanProcess RH exit paperworkProcess GC exit paperworkProcess TA exit paperwork
  5. Hi, friends! I know someone started a thread about this on Facebook, but I can't find it anywhere. Who's on Habitica? Has someone already started a Nerd Fitness party on there for questing?
