  16. I don't even know when was the last time I wrote on this board, nothing shows up in "what I follow" meaning it's been over a year and honestly that isn't too terrible surprising. I'm not 100% sure even when I joined. So I'm not 100% sure when I fell behind the promises I made to myself. I know I was getting on board with it back in 2016, to the point my body was rebelling! I was so sick most of the time! It was a nightmare, and sadly my employeers totally agreed and had to let me go. So while I gave into my body's want of junk food for comfort, I also got my old job back and was supporting both my fiance (at the time, now just significant other) and myself. It was enough to drive me into the arms of my paranoia, anxiety, and depression. All lovely symptoms of my childhood PTSD reacting to my worry about all the uncertainty. To be clear, I don't know of any other way to be, but I'm working towards not having it in such a negative fashion in my life. Those feelings exist and are real, but they're just knee jerk reactions to things and most likely not true. Probably. LOL Anyway. During this stressful time I gave in and started playing otome games on my phone. From there I fell in love with one in particular "Guard Me Sherlock" and realizing there wasn't a blog dedicated to it I started one. From there things have spiraled..... in a good direction. Since starting that blog I have: Reconnected with an old best friend, she and I maybe DON'T talk to each one day every two months Started writing more than I ever did when I was in school for writing Found that writing was more effective for dealing with stress and my mental health Discovered my real writing process Been offered a job writing a visual novel game for an 'in the works' visual novel company (may not make any money depending on how well the company gets off the ground BUT HEY!!!)[also note that the job was offered because of my fanfiction, cool right?!] Become haunted by the characters I love so much from these games that they are almost constantly fidgeting in the back of my imagination and making comments about what's going on. (Hey I'm not hallucinating, my imaginary friend's are just active.) I've also co-created a character with said friend and her story has people actually and continuously concerned for my health because if I go so do my stories and the characters I work with. Slowly I'm also getting better at talking with people, mostly online, but I'm working towards getting over the idea of "I can't talk to them because I'm bothering them" mentality. You never know until you hit send. However... somethings have come up.... Carpal Tunnel Shortness of Breath My half orc body is able to take the mild electrocutions and keep going, my human heart but not recover as fast Carpal Tunnel How happy Vegetables make me when I can actually get them in my diet The fact that my own imaginary friend's are concerned Carpal Tunnel Okay so the main pain is carpal tunnel... meaning that there are times when the characters are loud, but I can't write it down. Doctors are saying 1. change your job and 2. lose weight. Okay so I got point #1 in the works, company is moving me to a different location that should be easier on my body.... but that means #2 is waiting in the wings, tapping it's foot, and constantly checking it's watch. The universe may have been dropping hints that it's time for a change for a while, but I've given it the barest of acknowledgements... now it's given me these fantastic things. Working towards being a storyteller, a bard. However it now seems that if I don't start making changes I'm going to lose the things that I hold dear. My current goals: More Sleep/Better Sleep Getting outside and walking more Having a set writing schedule Stretching More variety of foods Long term goals: Muderella Half my tops being stuff I made Having my writing out there for people to see Feeling comfortable in what I wear Having a decent collection of recipes I don't mind sharing I've spent so much of my life scared, worried someone was going to kill me, worried that people didn't like me, believing that there was nothing to like at all. And as one of my new friends have told me, "You remind me of MC". And honestly I think it's about time I let myself be the MC of my own story. There's so much more to say but... I could probably write a novel on the insanity lol TL;DR Carpal Tunnel is threatening to take away my writing which is really something I cherish, love, and is good for my mental health. Gotta change my lifestyle if I want to keep it at bay. TOP 5 THINGS THAT MAKE ME NERD OUT: Pokemon Otome Games D20 Modern/D&D Voltron Gravity Falls/Mysteries in General
  17. "until I took... an epilepsy... to the brain..." Doesn't quite have the same ring to it, huh? Greetings, fellow dragon-slayers, fellow tome-readers, fellow spell-casters! My name's Carly, and I was here a very long time ago before running into health issues very suddenly, and very early in my path to become the badass elfin huntress I'd always dreamed of. Fast-forward several years and I'm back, bigger, better and 'more diagnosed' than ever! Treatment is in the works now and I'm crawling back to my feet again, but now seemed as great a time as any to start making small-steps (maybe picking at the miscellaneous quests, ya'know? Skirting around the main questline?) into my own health and fitness journey again! I also haven't a clue what to add, but I can't wait to become a friendly face around here and meet new people! Thanks for listening, traveller! - Carly
  18. Why hello there! My name is Luke and I'm a very very large Northern English man from Yorkshire. Being 6'6, naturally I carry around a little more timber than your average man my age; but! I'm working to fix that. I'm going to get stronger, leaner and a better man than I already am; and if you're not down with that, we've got two words for ya'! (Sorry, lifelong pro wrestling fan) Hopefully I can meet some nice people on here, who can give me tips and maybe even share a casual conversation about videogames and how MOBA's are the cancer of the earth, Nice to meet you all! P.S I have a beard
  19. Welcome new and welcome old! Welcome to the new challenge! The Juice Bar shall be continuing from the previous challenge, and is a place for fellow rebels to hang out, talk, ask and give advice, talk about your pets or your favourite game or new book you came across. Talk about whether or not you will be moving to other guilds, or why you've come back, or why you've come to NerdFitness for the first time. Feel free to make yourselves comfortable in the Juice Bar, show us your best gif, and welcome to the new challenge and this community!
  20. Welcome to the new Challenge! Stellakin and I decided that there was a lack of anywhere that we Rebels could gather together, so we decided to resurrect the Juice Bar. Anything belongs in this thread, any question, encouragment, motivation, adorable gif, etc. Feel free to make yourselves comfortable here as we approach the middle of Week 0, and begin gearing up for the Challenge! We're glad to see you here and begin this new start together!
  21. Hello, everyone! Just introducing myself to the group... my name is Cory, I'm 26 years old and live in a small-ish city east of Columbus in Ohio. I've been following Steve and the Nerd Fitness crew for years (I think I discovered this place via Chris Guilleabeau's Art of Non-Conformity) but only recently purchased a membership to the academy. I'm loving things so far, but I know that the key to my success is really going to be having a support system built up around me to keep me accountable. I tend to isolate myself from friends and family, especially when I'm focused on a task or a challenge like the ones presented to me in the Academy, so I'm reaching out to you here on the forums and on the Facebook group to keep me in line! Along those lines, I'm posting my first Epic Quests. I structured my big goals around 5 areas and then envisioned what I might look like when I've completely leveled up my life! Goal 1: Socioemotional I am a genuinely happy person who is not afraid to meet new people and to form close relationships with others. (Example quests along the way include consistently taking my medications for generalized anxiety and depression, challenging myself to meet new people and remain in contact with extended periods of time, and to get out of the house more often to experience life in the company of others.) Goal 2: Strength Training and Weight Gain I am a reasonably strong guy, weighing in at just over 125 pounds*, and since beginning my journey, I've tripled my strength! (Example quests along the way include milestone weight gains on the way to my target weight of 125 pounds, as well as completing the workouts and challenges in the Academy.) *I know - I'm pathetically underweight! I'm 5'7" so I can get by without looking like Jack Skellington, but my size has always been a thing that I am not altogether proud of. I realize, though, that there are people struggling to lose weight and that this sounds like a champagne problem, but... Goal 3: Financial Stability I am debt-free and live within my means, with a budget that allows me to experience new and unique things from time to time. (Example quests along the way include paying off my credit card balance, paying the rest of my current car loan, establishing a household budget, etc.) Goal 4: Sleep Quality and Energy I feel energetic every morning after getting 7.5 to 8 hours of high-quality sleep each night. I don't get tired by 3 PM and feel like I can work at my full potential at any time of the day. (Example quests along the way include increasing my average number of sleeping hours from 6-ish to 7.5-8, making my bedroom more suitable for high-quality sleep, adjusting my diet to eliminate most sources of sugar, and taking some vitamins and supplements to assist in not feeling so drained and groggy by mid-afternoon.) Goal 5: Side Business I have a side business creating and producing content online that is tailored to my interests and expertise. My audience is widespread and engaged, and my network of professional contacts is vast and willing to help me with any project, and trust that I can and will do the same for them. (Example quests along the way include producing episodes of a podcast that I have been formulating and developing for waaaaaaaay too long, as well as attracting a community of listeners who are willing to pledge their support on Patreon. Shameless plug: educreators.org if you're at all interested in the fields of education and education technology!) Thanks to Steve and the Nerd Fitness crew for this opportunity - I look forward to meeting more of you in the future! -Cory
  22. Hello everyone! I've received the NF emails for some time now, and I finally decided to get on the forums today and take my first 6-week challenge! I chose to be a Ranger You can see my challenge quest and goals here. I've never been a member of a forum before, so this is a completely new experience for me. Go easy on me! - Katie
  23. Greetings! I have decided that I need to change. I finally acknowledged that I am, in a word, boring. In two words - boringly unhealthy. Those are not good words. Life has become work and things that need to happen for survival to be pleasant (cleaning the house, for example) but after those things happen I go into a holding pattern of internet until it's time to sleep and do these things again. Friends? Hobbies? Not so much. This is not thriving. This is existing. This is pathetic. This has to change. Last September I had signed up for the NF emails, and followed the Quests but I never checked out the site or the community. I did okay at first; my dog loved that we were going for walkies, and I actually managed a few push ups (no small feat for someone pushing 350 lbs and with the upper-body strength of kiwi!) and lost about 30 lbs. Then... I don't know. I just sort of gave up. So... what is going to make this time different? Well, I've learned two very important things about myself. 1) I am easily overwhelmed. But breaking down tasks in to smaller tasks that are spread out over a few days can help me handle even the scariest of them. 2) I need an actual support system. The people I am currently surrounded by are not very supportive; who brings cookies to someone trying to cut out sugar? So I'm turning elsewhere for support. My coworkers are amazing and I'm going to work with some medical people. Oh yeah... and I'm posting here!
  24. Hi everyone, I've been slowly going through goals on NF for a month but only today joined the forums. I need to lose about 20 lbs and get my blood pressure under control, or 30 lbs if you're looking at an insurance company chart. Which I'm not This is the only program that has really gotten me motivated, and it seems to be chock-full of cool, fun people that share my interests and concerns. So Hello again from Chicago and hope to see you around!
  25. Hi my name is Ashley. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I have always been bigger, and have yo yo dieted in the past. I am looking forward to getting to know some cool people that can give me advice and help keep me accountable. I have no idea what else to write here, so that is all for now...
